Sent Matt and email about this hours ago, but not sure why its not posted for discussion….

Bradford was claimed by the Rays!

If “claiming” is by order of best to worst, how did Bradford slip by the Mets if they are desperate for bullpen help?

Bradford is having a decent year, plus he excelled at Shea.

I am perplexed!

I meant “worst to best”, not “best to worst”.

I can see why they didnt get Bradford. Bradford is a right handed specialist. This team right now doesn’t need anymore specialists. Feliciano and Schoeneweis are lefty specialists and Smith is a righty specialists. They need a bullpen pitcher who can get both righties and lefties out, not just righties or lefties

Lefties are batting .31 against him and righties are batting .265 so he isnt having such a hot year. but he would probably be an upgrade over heilman

A.L. Teams get first shot to claim someone in the league. If no one puts a claim on a person then the N.L. gets a shot from the worst team to the best.

Anyways, I’m going the the game Monday, anybody know how good these seats are; Outer Field Box, Section 252; Row 252 B? Should I bring my glove in case of foul balls?

All American league teams get a shot at Bradford before national league teams can claim him. So the rays (even though they have a better record) have a higher claim priority than the Mets did for Bradford.

I’m with you. Wright is the best 3rd baseman in baseball today and even Willie Mays is in awe of Beltran. But don’t be too harsh on our bullpen. They’re great guys and try their hardest and are just going through a little dry spell.

Yeah and every time Wright throws to first base I have to turn my head from the tv.

how about when David fields the ball, making diving plays and dont forget the bare hand over the shoulder the catch in 2005. only thing that gets him in trouble is his arm. other than that, he smuthers the ball pretty well.

nah man, I cant rely on this bullpen. they accounted for a lot of the Mets losses and blowing Santana’s starts. Santana could of easily been a 16 or 17 game winner and could be competing aganist Webb for the Cy Young Award.

Sanchez lost his velocity, Heilman, well we know about him, Scotty has been bad lately, and we have to many specialist pitchers. using almost 3 or 4 relievers to get 3 outs is not good unless its a HUGE jam in the inning in a close game. and with Wags on the DL, Manuel is using 3 or 4 RP just to get 3 outs in the 9th. NOT GOOD!

I’ve never seen a bullpen so consistently let a team down. Thank God that Wright won it. Everyone complains about how the players acted like they didnt care. Lets think about this…when do you see a group of people enjoy themselves when they know theres a better than 50/50 shot they’ll be let down? Unless they do something drastic in the pen, they won’t win anything. You could almost see teams smiling when they’re down 3 runs and get into our pen.

Its incredible that a group of 4 or 5 guys, making millions of dollars to individually get 1 to 3 outs, can completely deprive a team of any hope for 2 years running. Sickening.

I don’t really agree with that. Yeah, they have bad outings, but aside from Wagner, all together they’re making less than half the money Delgado makes, & that’s pretty disproportionate for guys who consistently mean a lot more to the outcomes of games than a single hitter ever will. The next decades will see a specialization in 7th & 8th inning pitchers akin to that formed around the “closer” position several decades ago. As salaries rise, relief will become a mre desireable profession, better pitchers will be attracted to it, salaries will rise, and all will be happy.

My take on the bullpen is that there is no way it can get any worse, so there has to be good things in the next few months

At least we got one over on Heath Bell. That felt extra good.

I dont know about Murphy being a 2 hitter. Our team has, what 9 “ideal” 2 hitters? Murphy belongs batting 6th or 7th. He has excellent discipline and looked like the one person in the lineup not pressing too hard with RISP. Let him keep bringing in the runs

Looks like SNY needs to update their logo library. That logo for the Padres is about 15 years old.
