Santana could of easily been a 16 or 17 game winner and could be competing aganist Webb for the Cy Young Award. Sanchez lost his velocity, Heilman, well we know about him, Scotty has been bad lately, and we have to many specialist pitchers. using almost 3 or 4 relievers to get 3 outs is not good unless its a HUGE jam in the inning in a close game. and with Wags on the DL, Manuel is using 3 or 4 RP just to get 3 outs in the 9th. Yeah, they have bad outings, but aside from Wagner, all together they're making less than half the money Delgado makes, & that's pretty disproportionate for guys who consistently mean a lot more to the outcomes of games than a single hitter ever will. The next decades will see a specialization in 7th & 8th inning pitchers akin to that formed around the "closer" position several decades ago. As salaries rise, relief will become a mre desireable profession, better pitchers will be attracted to it, salaries will rise, and all will be happy. I don’t really agree with that. Thank God that Wright won it. Everyone complains about how the players acted like they didnt care. Lets think about this...when do you see a group of people enjoy themselves when they know theres a better than 50/50 shot they'll be let down? Unless they do something drastic in the pen, they won't win anything. You could almost see teams smiling when they're down 3 runs and get into our pen. Its incredible that a group of 4 or 5 guys, making millions of dollars to individually get 1 to 3 outs, can completely deprive a team of any hope for 2 years running. Sickening.
