News: Two Minor Leaguers suspended
By Ted Berg - Aug 8, 2008 4:42 pm

According to a report on PA SportsTicker, two Mets Minor Leaguers have been suspended 50 days for testing positive for banned substances.

Leandro Geremy and Jose Valentin — not the same Jose Valentin — were both playing for the Mets’ Dominican Summer League team. The suspensions will begin immediately.

… i got some misinformation and posted originally, albeit briefly, that it was the mustachioed and beloved valentin that was suspended… my apologies, and consider me relieved that the ’stache is not in any way chemically enhanced…

any informed opinions about how much steroid usage remains in the big leagues? is the current testing regiment enough?

Does the Mets minor league system lead the league in # of guys suspended for PEDs since testing has been in place?

phew. what did happen to the ’stache? didn’t he have another setback this summer?

    gdjn, I thought he retired?

    • Ted Berg says:

Not quite retired, but he opted out of his season in late June because of mental and physical wear and tear and the Mets released him shortly thereafter.

      • gdjn says:

We’ll miss him–I’d love to get a 12”x22” poster of him in the style of the covers of the star wars movies, with his head airbrushed in amongst a few hr swings and diving stops.

j/k Ted, but everytime I see that pic on here I picture you alongside Ally Sheedy playing a game of thermonuclear warfare.
