According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Tigers have signed free-agent RHP Freddy
Garcia.
…from what i can gather, garcia had dropped from the Mets radar early this week, though i am not sure how serious they ever were in signing him to begin with…which is a good thing, because another old, on-the-rebound starting pitcher is the last thing the Mets need…

Please tell me he signed with the Philthies!
Fine with me…what we don’t need is to wait on another injured player to “try” and come back
agreed. we’ve all seen that movie WAY too many times.
damn it, he could have pitch the 8 inn for us
he is going to the tigers
anybody else like the idea of moving maine to the bullpen? i know its risky, but we need to try something.
With the way he’s been pitching lately I’m not sure I’d feel any more comfortable with him.
really?? he wears down in the 5th and throws too many pitches, i’ll give you that, but very rarely are there a lot of runs up on the board when he leaves the game.
also, can he be possibly worse than smith/schoenweis?
who would u put as a starter?? niese?
tough question. i might bring back claudio vargas. steady if not spectacular.
Could be the next Dennis Eckersley.
We don’t have a spot for Garcia right now…so he was not coming here.
I don’t like the idea of Maine in the bullpen…he’s another guy that is 3-2 on everyone and he’ll be shot after one outing.
There is talk about moving a starter to the bullpen and yet there is no room for Garcia? Oh, yes, we have Stokes.
I was at the game on Saturday. Stokes has a ridiculous fastball. He may be the kind of guy that ‘pen could use. Looked very impressive.
Look at his stats with TB. Not very impressive.
Garcia would have offered us an option. Not a great one necessarily, but an option.
Nelson Figueroa offers us an option(not that i want to see him, just making a point). The only advantage I see is Garcia starts out on a clean slate. That is the exact reason why Kunz should be closing. For all of the black eyes this bullpen has taken all year, Kunz hasn’t been around for it. He is the only one who doesn’t get booed when he comes into the game. He is the only one with legit closer experience. He is the only one who hasn’t been booed by his fans when he exits a game. I say give the kid a chance. Consider the dead horse beaten to death.
Well, Garcia has a much better track record than does Figueroa. (Did you know that he’s one of two — I think — MLB players in the history of the game to have every vowel in his last name?) Doesn’t mean he’ll be great or even good, but he has a better history than any of the retreads we currently employ in the minors.
