    Good. Muniz licks.

  2. GravediggerHebner says:

    At last, Muniz down.

  3. Genesis Does says:

Finally. We dont need Jorge Sosa 2.0 here

  4. Metsfan309 says:

Ok so now when Church and Wagner and Castillo come back who gets sent down most likely?
    Kunz
    Stokes
    A. Reyes
    Evans

    • kerelcooper says:

When those three come back, I think you’ll see Cancel, Stokes and Reyes sent down.

      • Nate W. says:

Stokes would have to clear waivers…

so long as Stokes pitches well in relief I think we would see him stick. Kunz isnt being used so he might as well go back to AA and tune up for Sept.

Church should push Evans out as Tatis becomes the RH part of the LF platoon.

They’ll all be back in two weeks, so I wouldnt sweat it too much.

This much is clear, Murphy isnt going anywhere.

  5. Nate W. says:

It must be all Muniz’s fault…

as soon as this news was anounced the Zephers pen imploded to the tune of a 12 run 8th inning that ended with Val Pascucci on the mound…

I wonder if Val had better stuff than Sanchez…

  6. mrmet924 says:

Will Maine be a Brett Myers and just get us to the playoffs, or an Adam Wainwright and help us win the series?

  7. MealTicket says:

On an unrelated subject, I guess Pascucci’s pitching debut in AAA didn’t go so well…

  8. BDot says:

question guys… the goo goo dolls song that plays a few minutes before the team takes the field- whats it called?

  9. Paperboy says:

I saw Maine today in the outfield during batting practice. I yelled over to him, “Hey John, how’s the arm?”

He turned to me and held out a “thumbs-down” sign.

    =(

Phillies lose, if anyone’s still out there…

  11. jj877 says:

Yes I just saw that, mlb gamecast actually wigged out and said that Ethier grounded out but then updated and saw he fouled off a few more pitches then it went to run(s)…

Sweet!!! Hamels gets another strong start, only to be wasted!! Maybe Santana rubbed it all off on him,,,? Only down to 1 game!! Nice!

    • mdemaio says:

      …bullpen blew it…gave up runs in the 8th & 9th.

Unrelated note: Micah Owings was identified as the player to be named in the Dunn trade…I wouldn’t quite call that getting Dunn for “nothing”, as some have…Cincinnati is going to have a tough young starting staff next year…

      • 4eyeJoe says:

the reds got back someone that can actually hit for a good average unlike dunn and possible fill up their rotation behind volquez, cueto, and arroyo.

        • mdemaio says:

Don’t count out Harang, either…he’s having a bad year, but he’s been one of the best pitchers in the NL the last two seaons….

      • Gina says:

Eh, Owings seriously came back down to earth after his strong start. As far as I know he wasn’t regarded as one of their top prospects to begin with.

Although they could have given up 3 of their 4 top prospects and some people in here would have claimed they gave up a package of nothing.

        • Gina says:

Also they’ve been shopping Owings for a while. I know they tried to get the Braves to take him in a package instead of that other pitcher, Schlereth I think his name is, so there may be something about him that worries them, I know his mechanics are all out of wack.

        • SovereignRonnie says:

Yeah, but Gina, Michah Owings >> Josh Fogg. I think Owings gives them pretty good depth, and about 10 HR a year in that ballpark b/w his starts and pinch hitting.

        • Gina says:

Well I > Josh Fogg, but if Owings is in the rotation I wonder what it means for Homer Bailey. I know reports have said he’s fallen out of favor recently.

        • SovereignRonnie says:

Bailey’s had chances both last year and this. Granted he’s young but he’s getting shelled. Good point- they must have soured on him or think a move to the ‘pen would be best?

      • Gina says:

Also, unfortunately for them Dusty Baker is still their manager, so unless he’s fired, they’ll still suck.

  12. Two-By-Four says:

Carlos Muniz has marginal talent and gets by on command and guile. To succeed he must be very fine and to be very fine he has to pitch often and for an inning an outing. He was successful in 2007 when used this way. Whether he would be in the majors is questionable but he certainly will not succeed being used as the Mets did. But in all fairness to Jerry he couldn’t afford to risk using Munez in this fashion. So basically bringing him was a waste of space.

    • Two-By-Four says:

I meant he was successful in the minors in 2007 when used this way.

    • Nate W. says:

agreed. If they used him in the same way he was used in the minors the chances of him pitching well would go up. I dont think he’ll get the chance with the Mets though. There are too many guys below him in the minors who the Mets will look to for pen help in the future along with Kunz.

  13. Roach2 says:

    Nice…but only 1 game
