News: Wagner in Double-A Tomorrow
By Matthew Cerrone - Aug 13, 2008 4:57 pm

Prior to tonight’s game, the Mets told reporters that Billy Wagner will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton tomorrow, during which he is expected to start and throw roughly 20 pitches.

Yesterday, Omar Minaya announced that Wagner would make at last one start, possibly two, before returning form the disabled list on Monday.

So he can blow games down there

  2. Giuseppe Franco our next GM says:

Maybe he can come back and make our bulpen a little better

When Jerry Manuel speaks, he sounds like that cool uncle that came up to you at the BBQ with a beer in his hand asking you how many girlfriends you got when you were little.

We need to sign Francisco Rodriguez in the off season.

definitely. This is more important than Texeira, IMO.

Santana - Pelfrey - Maine - Niese make a good foundation for a rotation; F-Rod to close for 4 years should make them all happy.

Then add F-Mart and Murphy to Reyes, Wright, Beltran & Church, and you’ve got some nice bats…

id rather have cc or sheets what would we do with wagner??? me no thinks he would like to be a setup man

        • ravi3 says:

Why not have them platoon the 9th? Whoever doesn’t close gets the 8th, or be used in high leverage situations in other innings. Billy Wags has said he wants to retire after next season, and havin Wagner and K-Rod in the 8th and 9th gets Billy closer to that elusive ring….

As for K-Rod, I’d think he would be happy getting the years and money he is looking for…and after one year, its back to full time closing for him.

On paper I think it makes sense, but thats not taking into account the egos involved.

        • rustyjr says:

thats just it ravi wagners ego this isn’t 86 when jesse roger and doug “hairbreath harry” sisk were closing by committee i think we have a better shot of raising gil fron the dead than wagner sharing

        • Philnym31 says:

Who cares what Wagner thinks? If he doesn’t like it, well then, that’s tough Billy. How about you lose your ego for the benefit of the team and let’s get moving forward? The reality here is that these guys are all just employees of an organization and sometimes, like it or not, you have to adjust to certain circumstances. Omar has a job to do and he needs to go out there and field a championship caliber team. The Mets bullpen has failed them this season and its a problem that needs to be addressed to the highest extent. You cannot win a World Series with the current bullpen and something has to be done, period.

        • rustyjr says:

agreed but like i stated b4 the new breed of player is more me first than team first

  5. EdysFanatic says:

  9. Nate W. says:

  10. rustyjr says:

what have u been smokin nate and where can i cop some lol off topic it ticks me off what the mets are doing in this last year at shea i mean come on have a oldtimers day where u bring back players from all the teams wheather is duke snider or craig swan we deserve to see our old guys (good or bad) to help close this stadium which has been my home for the last 36 years

    • Nate W. says:

just trying to help everyone a bit, we have to laugh to keep from crying when it comes to the pen.

There has also been a ripple effect, all the minor league pens are following suit with the Mets as they are without their best relievers (Muniz, Kunz) or otherwise just have been bad lately. For someone who follows the minors as well its been an awful stretch, Johan isnt the only one losing W’s in the late innings.

    • Nate W. says:

Next season will be 40 years since ‘69. I would bet (that makes some of you feel really old) that we will see a bunch of them around the park and have a special night for them through next season.

It is a shame, they should have more former players taking thier number off the wall for number of games left.

sorry couldnt post in another post. even though it said duplicate!

  13. Coleslaw Kennel says:

Geez, don’t tell me we’re gonna implement Joe Janish’s idea about having relievers start games! Kidding, kidding… :)

    • iamatwork says:

It’s not his idea! Bobby V did it! It’s just him re-hashing stupid ideas. Put your best pitchers first. It would be like putting in your defensive replacement to start and pinch hitting for him with a starter. Come on.
