eMailbag: Steve’s Mets Car

by Matthew Cerrone

Steve C from Long Island, who is a loyal, passionate and active reader of MetsBlog.com, sent in the following image and e-mail:

“I got tired of putting miles on my new car when going to Shea so I painted the old 88 Celica Turbo and got a few decals for it…Just finished it today – I’m looking forward to pulling into the Roosevelt Avenue entrance at the next home game…What do you think?”

I think this is, well, ‘Amazing.’  I have met the guy who considers himself to have the official Mets car, but, what I like most about Steve’s, is that it’s just a regular old car which hecan drive, it just happens to be all decked out in orange and blue.

WarningTrackPower August 14, 2008 at 1:47 pm

This should be the bullpen car! Maybe getting a ride to the mound would improve the pen’s current situation.

metties1 August 14, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Man. I can’t see it. my company blocks flickr

Jaded1983 August 14, 2008 at 12:44 pm

Mine too!!!

That said, if thats a Celica All Trac, Id love to buy the 3S-GTE thats under the hood!

Steve Camas August 14, 2008 at 1:40 pm

It is an All Trac but you can’t have the motor.:-)

metties1 August 14, 2008 at 1:56 pm

That’s freggin sick! I’m jealous

TheBigStapler August 14, 2008 at 12:48 pm

“Put it in the books!”

tres August 14, 2008 at 12:50 pm

That is the most beautiful thing these eyes have ever seen.

SheaVendor August 14, 2008 at 1:06 pm

I like it too, but no need to quote “Rudy”

mouserdz August 14, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Need to change those rims though… Maybe the mets baseball logo in the middle?

Steve Camas August 14, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Mets logos would be upside down and sideways so I went with straight baseballs. Couldn’t make them fill the whole rim (need to vent the breaks) and don’t love the way it came out but it’s good for now…. It’s a work in progress…

mouserdz August 14, 2008 at 1:59 pm

Ah, I just noticed they are baseballs. I thought it was some sort of reflection.

Car looks great either way

cuervo August 14, 2008 at 6:15 pm

powder coat them orange and blue, or just one of the color.. it will look better than just the baseball

theperfectgame August 14, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Fantastic. Well done, Steve.

turbot72lou August 14, 2008 at 12:58 pm

thats awesome

Giuseppe Franco our next GM August 14, 2008 at 12:59 pm

This is the coolest thing i have seen since The padres sunday navy uniforms

ravi3 August 14, 2008 at 1:07 pm

Some friends and I actually had a school bus (one of the smaller ones) painted orange and blue. There was a PA system, along with stadium seating inside, and a bbq grill attached to the back door. Took it to some games, to tailgate and was always a great time….Unfortunately the old girl broke down, and may be down for the count.

bigchart333 August 14, 2008 at 1:09 pm

what do i think?

i think you’re a genious for parking in the roosevelt ave lot….

right by the GCP entrace?

bit of a walk, but when it’s time to leave, you’re out and on the GCP in no longer than 2 minutes

damn..i just ruined the secret

grotesmask August 14, 2008 at 1:11 pm

A thing of beauty, indeed!

Well done, Steve, well done.

Now, LET’S GO METS!

Chris the Teacher August 14, 2008 at 1:20 pm

thats nothing! wait till he posts pictures of our mets bus called “the 7 train” if youve been to a game in the last 2 years im sure youve seen it!

Head First August 14, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Is this 7 Train Bus from East Rockaway, New York?

Chris the Teacher August 14, 2008 at 1:24 pm

haha yes indeed. talking to the cocreator and owner JK as we speak tryin to get pics of the bus on the site

dave27 August 14, 2008 at 1:25 pm

I think Howie should be reimbursing your costs for putting his catchphrase up there so prominently!

NYP-BOS-NYP August 14, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Or suing him for plagiarism. :-)

No. I didn’t suggest that, Howie. You and Wayne go back to your broadcast. Nothing to see here.

Head First August 14, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Outstanding. I’ve seen it on Main Street a few times and just been more jealous than I can explain. Seriously excellent job.

Chris the Teacher August 14, 2008 at 1:27 pm

email matt and tell him to post pictures i sent him

Head First August 14, 2008 at 1:32 pm

I will email him. Maybe you and the Mets car can race. Or at the very least meet up at Nathan’s for car night.

Ted Berg August 14, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Clearly the best way to spend a Wednesday night in Oceanside.

marvelousmarv August 14, 2008 at 1:29 pm

They should paint the 7 train the same colors.

Chris the Teacher August 14, 2008 at 1:36 pm

the mets bus carrys more cargo….and its tough for her to go 0-60, shes a distance gal, not a sprinter!

NYP-BOS-NYP August 14, 2008 at 1:54 pm

I just want to point out that Steve is my brother. Which makes me that car’s … uncle. Or something.

Head First August 14, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Congratulations. Maybe you can be its godfather.

Two-By-Four August 14, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Uncle to a car? Somehow I always pictured you that way. :)

RomanWarHelmet August 14, 2008 at 1:56 pm

It is only fitting that the official Met Car is a broken down 20 year old car with a new paint job. With that being said…I am insanely jealous..well done.

metsomniac August 14, 2008 at 2:10 pm

HAHAHA nice…

Steve Camas August 14, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Funny you should mention that — I’m taking in next week for an MRI. It’s been complaining about some discomfort in its hip flexor…. At least it doesn’t have bunions….

cgroovin August 14, 2008 at 3:31 pm

does the emperor have no clothes, or what? sorry man, but that is one ugly UGLY car. i wont lie like everyone else commenting here. i hope yankee fans dont see this monstrosity, because the only thing it does is serve as fodder for met bashing. please leave this car in your garage and dont bring it to the stadium.

theperfectgame August 14, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Jealousy’s a stinky cologne…

cgroovin August 14, 2008 at 5:10 pm

ok there.

metserock44 August 14, 2008 at 4:13 pm

Chris The Teacher -

That’s not your bus. Stop trying to act cool in front of people you don’t even know. That’s Kilgus and myself’s bus. You’ve rode in the bus 2 times tops. On top of that your not even a real mets fan.

Gary Busey August 14, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Ooh, Mets vehicle drama!

HeadlinerG60 August 14, 2008 at 4:19 pm

A lot of work went into that car!

Gary Busey August 14, 2008 at 4:28 pm

FLAWLESS. love it

krispy644 August 14, 2008 at 4:38 pm

OFFICIAL!!

TheBigStapler August 14, 2008 at 4:43 pm

You must have, if you’re married, a very understanding wife. Or a very upset one.

Steve Camas August 14, 2008 at 11:55 pm

He wanted to paint the car – GREY.

Props to my fourth grade teacher in Elmhurst- Sr William Agnes- the praying helped (sometimees.)

Steve Camas August 14, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Sorry sweetie- I hijacked your account while you were sleeping.

swirlywand August 14, 2008 at 5:42 pm
