look, I'm enjoying this pennant race a lot. I hope to continue enjoying it. But that doesn't change the fact that this isn't a good bullpen. It will be better when Wagner gets back, but even then, guys like Heilman and Joe Smith and Schoenweis and Sanchez and Feliciano scare the hell out of me. And Wagner's been shaky this year too.

Your original post made it sound like everything is just peachy with the bullpen, and even if it's not, well, that's just the way things are b/c bullpens are streaky. Bullpen's are streaky, that's true, but ours is streakier than most and is bad for longer than most. If you swapped our 'pen with the Phillies 'pen, we'd probably have about an 8 or 9 game lead right now. That's all I'm saying.

how are they supposed to solve them? it would have been nice ot get marte. fuentes was going no where. arthur rhodes was not the answer. they need to play with what they got.
maybe they should have bought kunz up earlier and let him develop so that he can contribute now. what it comes down to is that sanchez lost his velocity. thatr is what is kiiling the team.
if it was july 29th, I'd be right there with you but right now, they need to play with what they got and hope they escape game sliek they did yesterday.
what I do know is that there are 27 outs in a game. they need 18 to 21 from their starter (hopefully more on some nights). when wagner comes back, hopefully he can lock down the last 3.
between the rest, they need to get on average 3 to 6 outs. right now, I don't have much confidence in the guys we have but I also know that this is what we are stuck with. nights like last night, the defense helped out with a key out on beltrans throw. reyes made a great play in the 9tth but delgado should have made the play to start.
the goal is to get to the psotseasona nd then hopefully they get hot. right now, I think even with this bullpen, they have enough to get there. I couldn't watch the game tuesday because I was still upset about monday. I know the holes but what it comes down to is that there are 40 games left and this is what makes sports exciting.

"3/4 is 75%, that’s a horrible save pct."

Isn't that Billy's save percentage, too? Aaron's performing at Wagner Replacement Level.

I'm confused. People who accurately point out that this bullpen (especially without Wagner) intimidates nobody can't enjoy a pennant race? Huh??

>>I do criticize the team. but the point is that THIS team is in 1st place. if they fail to make the postseason again this year, I will be the first one criticizing them, but while they are still in first place, I am going to enjoy watching them play.<<

In other words, you're telling us you ignore festering problems until it's too late to do anything about them. The time to make improvements and experiments is when you're in first place and have margin for error (albeit 1 game here).

Actually, the NBA has below-market value salaries. Which is precisely why LeBron might end up in Europe in 2010.

and yet the Mets are in first place.
I'm going to answer all 3 posts in one. last year sucked. but it was not only the bullpen that sucked. and last year is over. I don;t give a rat's a** what happened last year right now. it's mid august and it is a tight division. live for this year.

I love people's comebacks. "get a clue." here si my clue. why do we watch baseball? there are 40 games left and the division lead is one game. this is what it is about. if you can't enjoy this, you can't enjoy baseball. if that makes me clueless, then so be it.

as for the pen, wagner is back monday. like him or not, he is our best closer and better than anythign we have now. maybe burgos helps in september. maybe sanchez has enouigh to get it done in the 8th inning.

I do criticize the team. but the point is that THIS team is in 1st place. if they fail to make the postseason again this year, I will be the first one criticizing them, but while they are still in first place, I am going to enjoy watching them play.

I stand by my view. if you can;t enjoy a postseason race like this, I don't kow why you even bother tyo watch baseball.
