The Florida Marlins are tied for second in the National League with 161 home runs. Almost half through August, however, they’ve hit only eight. That ranks 14th in the league for the month.
The Dodgers made a waiver claim on Nationals second baseman Ronnie Belliard to prevent him from going to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks recently lost Orlando Hudson for the season due to a wrist injury.
The Phillies are 2-6 over their last eight games, with the offense batting just .202. In seven opportunities with the bases loaded they’ve managed just two RBI. They’ve struck out three times and hit into a double play with the bases juiced.
Francisley Bueno received a three game suspension for throwing at the head of Alfonso Soriano. He’s shown great control in the minors and only hit seven batters in 287 1/3 innings, walking 2.4 per nine innings.

They suspended him for throwing at Soriano? They should have given him an extra inning of work. Well done Bueno! Anything to derail the Cubs and keep the streak in tact! Don’t mess with a record that long, ever. It’s bad enough the Red Sox and White Sox did it, but we don’t need the Cubs thinking they can do it too.
How can we even be discussing the NL East when there is an important scientific press conference going on CNN.com involving Bigfoot?
That was a bummer, turns out it was just El Duque!
*rim shot*
Can we put Castillo on Waivers for the DBacks to hopefully pick up?
isn’t just about everybody on waivers? And if there was only 1 Met allowed, how could it be anyone else but Luis?
Perfect time to try and unload Castillo on them.
Of course it would help if he wasn’t hitting .069 in A ball, if he even came back from his personal leave!
Yeah we could trade Castillo and 15 BILLION dollars to the Dbacks so we could see more of ….. A. I can’t get on base Reyes. If Murphy could play 2nd I could see us doing it. If of course we ate about 10 million in salary. Thus we would have paid Luis Castillo 16 million this season.
You aren’t paying Castillo to play, you are paying him to leave.
The Dodgers would just claim him on waivers as well because he’s a 2b. That is, unless they were REALLY smart, then they would let him through and let them trade for him and wreck their team like he’s done to ours. But I don’t think they are THAT smart.
What ever happened to the “gentlemen’s agreement”?
but lets not forget, if the Dodgers.claim him and no trade can be worked out, he and his contract can just be given to the Dodgers.
“The Phillies are 2-6 over their last eight games, with the offense batting just .202.”
You mean, the 2nd place Phillies?
Easy killer, season isn’t over yet…lol
I knew that would get you to show yourself!!! Now that we have you out here…tar and feather!!!!!
Come on, don’t become a neanderthal at this point in the season my friend…. let’s see how the rest goes… I’m not worried – no one except the Angels have a runaway going so far, therefore it’s anyone’s game!!!
If it’s working, stick with it. Here’s the lineup for Friday’s series opener in Pittsburgh:
Reyes, ss
A. Reyes, 2b
Wright, 3b
Delgado, 1b
Beltran, cf
Murphy, lf
Tatis, rf
Schneider, c
Pelfrey, rhp
You must be happy tonight!
Ok what happen to Easley? Can I not get A. Reyes’s .280 OBP out of the lineup?
Eh, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Manuel remains consistent. He stuck with Easley during the 10-game streak, so maybe we can get a little bit out of A. Reyes. Look on the bright side, we’ll have Easley pinch hitting in a big spot in the 8th, rather than A.Reyes.
Very good points about Easley pinch hitting and Jerry sticking with the hot hands….
Thanks. This is one of the most important reasons for Church to come back as well (aside from his health of course). Our bench looks much better with Tatis coming off of it.
Apparently not until his OBP slithers under .200….maybe then that can be called the “Argenis” line…..
I do like the idea of trying to unload Castillo on the Dbacks. If they are desperate, that’s all the more salary we wouldn’t have to eat. You know Omar’s gotta be thinking about it, so it’s just up to Limpy McSlapster to get himself back into playing shape so we can put him through waivers. If they bite, that’s the best news since the coming together of the rotation. If not, we haven’t lost anything. He doesn’t do anything anyway.
Limpy McSlapster!
That’s even better than Slappy McSingleton!!
castillo w/ one hand and a foot better than a reyes will ever be
I am afraid that this is probably true.
And imagine how much of a “slapper” he would be with only one hand!!
hahahah no difference really. still max distance of 100 feet lol
stop reyes in the 2 hole.. come on bat him 8th.
I agree- put Murphy in the 2.
With his patience & OBP- perfect 2 man-ride him.
When Schneider is in the lineup, you can’t bat A. Reyes 8th. That makes a 7-8-9 of Schneider – Reyes – Pitcher. That equals trip to the grocery store three times a night. I’ll be broke.
So you would rather have an automatic out for 5 AB’s instead of 4? An you would rather put that automatic out inbetween our best hitters.
No, but you can do more things with a weaker hitter in the 2 hole. You can bunt guys over.
Now, granted we’re in a different era, but the Pirates of the early 90’s had great success with Jay Bell in the two hole consistently leading the league in sac bunts. I’m just saying, I love the idea of Murphy in the 2-hole, but it just makes the bottom of the lineup way too weak. With Easley or Castro in the lineup, I’m all for it.
I’ve been saying this, even with Castillo in there. You can’t bat him 8th when Schneider plays. I think Manuel feels the same way.
Not to mention, with Schneider batting 7th, Tatis (or hopefully Church in a few weeks) won’t see any pitches to hit and/or will be intentionally walked. Teams will dare Schneider and A. Reyes or Castillo to beat them. Frankly, that scares the poop out of me.
As long as Castillo comes back I am fine with it. At least if they pitch around the 6 hitter then Schnieder and Castillo have good OBP.
I true hope is that Castillo comes back healthy and can take the 2 spot. At least he can get on base. You can’t have a guy with below .300 OBP batting 2nd in any league. That Jay Bell guy you are talking about had a .343 OBP, Thats a lot better than .280.
more men on base= higher chance to win. platoon evans and delgado agsaint lefites and start murphey at second and just use reyes as a baserunner
Thats why as much as it hurts to say it.
Castillo hurry up back.
Kid what u want about his power, but although
his BA is down, his walks and runs scored / AB
are above his career average, and
much much better than A. Reyes or Easley
“more men on base= higher chance to win. platoon evans and delgado agsaint lefites and start murphey at second and just use reyes as a baserunner”
If Evans & Murph in IF then who is 3rd OF ?
Keep on Platooning Evans / Murph in of,
but have Evans rest Delgado 1X/week against a lefty.
Ride Castillo, send A Reyes down, but have Easly play 2X/week to rest gimpy.
that was when church would come back. sorry i did not state that. if church can perfrom at a 280 with pop id be happy clip rest of the year id be happy
