News: Ayala in the House, Kunz to Triple-A
By Matthew Cerrone - Aug 18, 2008 12:05 pm

Luis Ayala is with the Mets and available to pitch today.

Manuel, on Ayala, speaking to reporters prior to today’s game against the Pirates:

“In talking with some of our scouts, they seem to think that the arm strength is back from the injury he had during the World games.  And, they seem to think, that the angle of his arm may be a bit different, which might not cause the ball to sink as much.  But, for the most part, where going to give him a chance to show us what he can and cannot do.”

Eddie Kunz has been optioned back to Triple-A.

Hopefully we won’t be having flashbacks to last Monday this afternoon……

    • mrose says:

stop, you just made me have flashbacks :(

      • Nightlife says:

But look at it this way, if you would have told me we were going to lose a game that we should have won then go on to win 6 straight I would have taken that.

        • dave27 says:

          I would’ve wanted the 7 straight.

        • Nightlife says:

Well, we can’t always have it your way now can we Dave?

        • dave27 says:

My way? I’m probably not the only person who would prefer 7-0 to 6-1…or more importantly to not blowing a 5-1 lead to a lowly team with one foot on the plane home!

That said, certainly happy with the rebound on this road trip.

      • According to SNY, Moises Alou was moved to the 60 day DL to make room for Ayala. They didn’t say anything about Kunz.

        • Hernandez_1B says:

That was to make room for him on the 40 man roster. Kunz was sent down to triple a to make room for him on the 25 man roster

        • gomets6091 says:

why wasn’t Alou already on the 60-day DL? Actually, better question, why hasn’t Alou retired?

        • Nate W. says:

wasnt Anderson Hernandez traded for him?

that would open up a 40 man roster spot. 1 for 1

        • Nate W. says:

Tony Armas also was moved to the 60 day DL…
          what happened to him?

Remember when Armas moved to the pen and Manual said he wasnt worried about Armas’s use because ‘he has a rubber arm, he can pitch everyday’ ?

          I guess not…

        • AHern was not on the 40 man roster. He stinks.

        • PedroMANIA says:

You are wrong, he was on the 40 man and the trade was for a PTBNL. Word is it will be Ahern as the PTBNL but they still needed room on the 40 man in the meantime.

  2. nysportsfan16 says:

Getting back to Luis Ayala……….If he performs well with New York, does anyone know what his contract situation is like for next year. He could be a big help if he straightens himself out

  3. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

So does this mean Joe Smith is pack to carrying the Hello Kitty backpack?

What do they make Evans and Murphy do?

  4. das2ble says:

The Washington Post has posted an article about the trade which also says that he has had a pretty bad year. That is, other than his record and ERA. He got divorced before the season began and was SHOT IN THE ARM DURING A HUNTING TRIP. Geesh.

  5. das2ble says:

    Mets lineup today:

    A Reyes – 2B
    N Evans – LF
    D Wright – 3B
    C Beltran – CF
    C Delgado – 1B
    F Tatis – RF
    D Easley – SS
    R Castro – C
    J Maine – P

I hope they can win without Jose in the lineup.

  6. F-Tatis17 says:

well you can say the game against the Angels when it was Manuels first game as manager when Reyes was taken out in the first inning but other than that i dont know.

  7. Big Lou says:

Now who goes when/if Wagner comes back?

  8. I’m confused. Did I miss something?

I love that Seinfeld episode, but what does this have to do with Luis Ayala?
