We may have seen the last of Billy Wagner in a Mets uniform. I hope not, but it sounds kind of Tommy John ish. If so, they have to break the bank for K Rod

    • metsfan42793 says:

Signing K-Rod is a must. Unless there are great middle relievers in the market this offseason they have to get K-Rod.

    • khmustache says:

ain’t gonna happen…the angels are the best team in baseball right now, and they just spent a ton to rent tex…there’s no way they part with krod until he tests free agency, they want to win right now

      • metsforever says:

I don’t think anybody is talking about this week. No closer will make it to the Mets. They need to get lucky with a decent middle guy who can get hot for a month and a half

    • ravi3 says:

Not Tommy John-ish…I posted this on an earlier thread, but here it is again:

From what I’ve read, the elbow doesn’t hurt when you need TJ surgery. In fact, most people can go on with their lives without getting the procedure, and not notice it. It is when they try to do baseball related activities when there is an issue. This doesn’t seem to be the case with Wagner, as he is experiencing some pain, so there is a glimmer of hope here. Perhaps it is “just” a strain….

      • ridethesnake says:

July 23: Tim Hudson left Wednesday’s game with what’s being called right elbow tightness.

July 24: “I don’t foresee it being that big of a deal. It doesn’t feel too bad. It just feels like tight muscles.”

July 28: Braves placed RHP Tim Hudson on the 15-day disabled list with a tight forearm.

July 29: An MRI on Tim Hudson’s elbow revealed ligament damage that could sideline him for the rest of the season.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

K ROD is not doing as good you think. his velocity is down 3-4 MPH and is very shaky in his situtations

  2. MetsFan4Decades says:

Say what you want about, Billy. Without Billy down the stretch – downright scary…..

    Let’s Go Mets tonight !!

  3. irishchris87 says:

    Mike,

Jo-Jo Reyes pitches for the Braves.

  4. metsfan121 says:

    2 shortstops Mike?
    Lol

  5. JoseReyesForPresident says:

2 SS Very interesting gotta see how this works out

  6. nysportsfan16 says:

Jerry took are biggest power threat out of the lineup

    Brian Schneider

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

good one. Hey, you never know. I’ll take a few key hits or HRs from Brian….

  7. JoseReyesForPresident says:

thanks for the fix i was about to say” leftys wouldve loved that”

  8. rustyjr says:

lol schnider looks like popeye without the bulging elbows

  9. teufelshuffle86 says:

So much for Delgado getting the day off today. Mets.com reported he’d be on the bench tonight.

  10. metsfan101589 says:

is there someone down in AAA that can close right now that can be flat out dominant? I think we might see a mets version of Joba Chamberlain in Bobby Parnell. He has a power fastball, I know that much, but does he have a plus breaking ball or change?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

I think if that guy was out there he’d be in Shea Stadium right now.

      • metsfan101589 says:

you got a point, but what the mets thought is that kunz would run with the closers job, but he didn’t, and now that we know wags won’t be back for a while, why not convert Parnell to a reliever for now.

        • teufelshuffle86 says:

In all honesty, they barely gave him a chance. Guy made 4 appearances. Didn’t have the greatest command but they didn’t really use him correctly in my opinion.

  11. MetsFan4Decades says:

HAHAHA – Billy Wagner’s comments aired during pre-game:

    ‘Only reason I’m a closer is b/c I sucked as a starter’…..

He had nothing but good things to say about the Met BP. Said they’re great, no one appreciates how hard the job is, said he wouldn’t trade them for anyone out there right now.

Kudos for him backing up that BP – no matter what we all think about them right now…..

  12. WarningTrackPower says:

It might be nice to see the opposing team’s lineup posted here too. I know it wouldn’t be too hard to go and find it on my own, just thinking it’d be nicer if it were in the same place and easier to get an idea about matchups, etc.

  13. khmustache says:

    cmon ollie

  14. rM teM says:

too bad that Kunz was handled so poorly by Manuel,
now we still don’t know if he could get the job done
    or not.

  15. teufelshuffle86 says:

    From the Braves broadcast:

“And Chipper Jones will get booed for the first time in this series as he come to the plate”

  16. rM teM says:

    LLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRYYYYYYYYY

  17. DavidDog says:

sad to say, but there is only one piitcher in our bullpen/farm that has the remotest chance of picking up the slack and be that “dominant” closer you spoke of…

…and his name is…. Aaron Heilman

  18. teufelshuffle86 says:

    BAD OLLIE!

  19. teufelshuffle86 says:

    1-0 Nats in Philly!

  20. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K., Ollie, O.K…..

  21. teufelshuffle86 says:

I few 1st inning jitters but I expect Ollie to settle in tonight.

  22. khmustache says:

maybe he got it out of his system

  23. foul bunt strikeout says:

    not bad…

Ollie threw more pitches than desired but got through an early jam against hitters that torture the mets

F the pitch count…let him sling tonight

  24. Aflac Sucks says:

Does anybody know what Jose Reyes’ first two At Bat songs are? Thanks a ton in advance.

  25. foul bunt strikeout says:

Looks like Blanton ate one cupcakes too many before this start…

    Lets rock Jo Jo

  26. khmustache says:

    nice hittin evans

  27. khmustache says:

    rbi….nice

  28. MetsFan4Decades says:

Nice sac fly. Get all the runs we can here.

  29. foul bunt strikeout says:

I’m liking the young guns hitting in the two hole

They have a good approach, hit to all fields (thus far) and are getting the job done

    makes me really miss castillo

    /sacrasm’d

  30. nyj0128 says:

We do need Billy Wagner back, but even before getting hurt he was doing as great as he was doing in the beginning. Even though his number’s are still good, his ability to close out games is showing with his age. Honestly, I want Billy back this year. But going into next year, I’m not that thrilled about it. There may be better options out there such as K-Rod. Come the off season, the Mets need to revamp the bullpen. Not change one or two like most seasons. Change like 4 or 5.

Wagner’s apart of these bullpen problems. Just because his numbers are good doesn’t mean he’s done well before getting hurt. Look at Schoenweis. The way I see it Wagner could still be a great set up man even if we were to pursue another close. Look at what we did with John Franco in 99′ and 00′.

  31. nyj0128 says:

    Gotta score some more now.

  32. MetsFan4Decades says:

    All Right TATIS.

  33. teufelshuffle86 says:

    TATIS!

  34. khmustache says:

    TATIS!!!!

    stupid ground rule double rule…

  35. nyj0128 says:

    Tatis is awesome

  36. foul bunt strikeout says:

    ah yes two out hitting…

    we missed you yesterday

  37. nyj0128 says:

Was Delgado supposed to sub today?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

mets.com said earlier in the day that he’d get the day off but now that story is mysteriously missing.

  38. foul bunt strikeout says:

and easlely picks up right where he left of yesterday

  39. nyj0128 says:

That second run will turn out to be big. I see a great start coming from Ollie. It’s been amazing how many no run type performances they been getting. Even Pedro.

  40. nyj0128 says:

It would have made sense to give the day off against the lefty. With the way Murphy’s hitting, I think he could tear lefties apart and Nick Evans is both a natural and good defensive 1B. They shouldn’t be speaking too early for Jerry on that site though. Eventually Delgado and Beltran will need some rest.

  41. MetsFan4Decades says:

Unlike Ollie’s early starts – he’s off first inning, he looks like he can figure it out now. Back in May, before you blinked, he’d have given up about 4-5 runs….

I know it’s early yet but just saying….

  42. khmustache says:

man it would suck to be kochman…getting traded from the best team in baseball to a terrible also-ran….

i mean apart from getting paid millions of dollars to play a game

  43. teufelshuffle86 says:

I thought Beltran could have gotten to that one. Eh, maybe not.

  44. rM teM says:

yeah, I try not to feel sorry for millionaires

  45. nyj0128 says:

    I thought that was gone

  46. el_giacomo says:

    dangit Nitram Odarp!

  47. nyj0128 says:

No big deal if we can get out of this with 2 outs. It could be nothing more than a walk. He can’t be throwing crap to the pitcher though.

  48. el_giacomo says:

sweet, J. Reyes grounded out to J. Reyes…

  49. rM teM says:

why would anyone want lime flavored beer?

    • khmustache says:

      scurvy?

    • el_giacomo says:

i dunno…although some very hoppy beers such as IPA’s can be rather citrusy, but it’s the nature of the hops, not adding lime flavoring later in the process…couldn’t imagine that would be very tasty.

      • Nightlife says:

Lemon/lime any fruit can be good in certain beer, just not any of that pre-flavored bottled BS that Miller and Bud have been hocking lately.

Just cracked open and Anchor Steam, myself.

  50. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh…
Instead of Castro on second, we’ve got crazy man Ollie on first. Look at that lead – watch him try and steal and hurt himself….

  51. rM teM says:

    well, that ones a ball

  52. khmustache says:

well that was 5 pitches longer than it needed to be

  53. el_giacomo says:

    :(

  54. nyj0128 says:

Nick Evans has done a good job lately, but this is why you don’t want slow guy’s hitting 2nd. That’s supposed to be a table setter, not a guy who’s as slow as Delgado.

  55. Nightlife says:

Ollie, you owe Blanco some money or something?

  56. ksuth says:

Anyone see the stat that SNY put up about Reyes’ AVG & Runs during Mets wins and losses?

    It was something like:

    WINS .314 – 68 Runs
    LOSSES .266 – 20 Runs

How is he not an MVP candidate?

  57. ksuth says:

    LAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYY

  58. danlx13 says:

Perez does not have his stuff tonight

  59. rM teM says:

well, you’d have to compare that with the others.
Most players have worse stats when they’re on the losing end

  60. khmustache says:

damn ollie….haven’t seen this in a while

  61. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Come on Ollie!!!!

  62. rM teM says:

an error that won’t be called

  63. MetsFan4Decades says:

Schneider would have had him at first, don’t you think?

  64. Nightlife says:

    Sigh.

On a night I decide to sit down, drink some beer and watch a game for the first time after work in awhile Ollie decides to throw 50+ pitches before the end of the 3rd.

    :(

  65. khmustache says:

    dang

  66. teufelshuffle86 says:

Braves are really crushing the ball.

  67. Nightlife says:

    This won’t end well……

  68. 911nafstem says:

Castro? What the hell was that?

  69. nyj0128 says:

The damage could be worse. Gotta get out of this now though.

  70. rM teM says:

can’t stand larry, but if he played his career in ny he
    would be a god

  71. 911nafstem says:

You walk garbage like Gregor Blanco to lead off an inning you’re gonna pay

  72. nyj0128 says:

The Braves play better than Pittsburgh and Washington. At least against the Mets they seem to. We can’t afford to lose 2 out of 3 in this kind of series when Philly is playing Washington though.

  73. ksuth says:

Anyone hear Billy’s comments during the news conference before the game today? basically along the lines of

I wouldn’t trade any of those guys [pitching staff] for anyone else out there right now. I think they’re doing a great job, heck they’re better than me. The only reason you’re looking for me to come back is because I have the closer title, but I only have that title because I sucked as a starter.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup, I heard it earlier too. Commented up above on this post on that.

Kudos to Billy for backing that pen – no matter what we all think of them.

      • ksuth says:

I agree. I love that he backed his guys there….We almost sound like a real…Team. Remember earlier in the season when he threw Delgado under the bus?

  74. Nightlife says:

Well, that could have been a lot worse.

I’m going to have to consume a lot more beer a lot quicker if I’m to prepare myself to watch the bullpen in about 2 innings.

  75. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Good swing Davey.

  76. 911nafstem says:

JoJo Reyes will now be played by Sandy Koufax

  77. khmustache says:

    cmon offense…don’t go to sleep

  78. Nightlife says:

    Please settle down here Ollie.

  79. ksuth says:

Anyone going to the game Saturday night? Tailgating?

  80. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

I think the score we’re looking at right now will be the final.

  81. teufelshuffle86 says:

Can we get a leadoff hitter out?

  82. jimyager says:

OK, this Reyes dude is 0-5 in his last 5 starts and the METS have never faced him before, that can mean only one thing. ANOTHER METS LOSS!!! I only hope the NATS can hang on and beat the Phillies. LETS GO NATS !!!!!

    • rM teM says:

      what’s the score/inning?

      • khmustache says:

the mets are behind…that always brings out the chicken littles

        • jimyager says:

Chicken Little? Have you been watching the same team as I have? When we face a Rookie, first time pitcher or one with a high ERA and bad record that usually spells a LOSS for us. That plus our pen sucks and cant hold a game late. We are doomed without Billy and the Braves always kick our butts. They have won 7 of the last 9 games against us. I hope and prey that we can win. As long as the Nats beat the Phillies a Loss is ok. It would be nice to pick up another game on the Phillies. If the Phillies win the series against the NATS and we win our series against the Braves we are still in first,

  83. miker94 says:

honestly, i know ollie has had a few good starts this year, but i pray that he is gone next year.

  84. miker94 says:

has perez started out 0-1 on any batter this game?

  85. nyj0128 says:

Every time I come back to look at my computer there’s a runner on with no out’s. I remember when the Mets lost 4 in a row, this is the kind of thing that happened. He’s got to get it under control now before he lets us out of the game.

  86. teufelshuffle86 says:

Throw the ball down the middle. Let him bunt it!!!!!!

  87. 911nafstem says:

    NICE D!

  88. rM teM says:

    WOW!

  89. teufelshuffle86 says:

    NICE PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  90. khmustache says:

    THANK YOU DEFENSE!!!

  91. rM teM says:

    YAHOOOO

  92. nyj0128 says:

I don’t want to see Oliver gone. Remember those 7 ininng 0 run outings against the Phillies? Or the 12 K’s. He’s worth the price. He’s pitched great of late. This is his first bad one in a while. He can still turn it around though. I don’t think he’ll make it past 5 or 6 inning’s though. My guess is a no decision.

  93. teufelshuffle86 says:

Let’s get a rune here, come on!!!!!

  94. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    x 2 !!

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

That was a reference to “thank you defense,” obviously. Although getting 2 runs would be nice, too.

  95. Tina says:

Ronnie’s just now saying, ok, Ollie doesn’t have his A-game, let’s see how it goes for him. And really, this is encouraging. The rails have not come off. He’s battling. That’s excellent. Maybe the results of this game won’t be what we’d like, but for Ollie, battling is big.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup. I agree. Give him a chance. We should be able to get some runs. ‘Should’ being the operative word…

  96. nyj0128 says:

    Yup, good D.

  97. rM teM says:

    rare 2 c a dp on a bunt

  98. Nightlife says:

See what happens when you decide to throw a strike to Blanco, Ollie?

  99. nyj0128 says:

He might do thing’s backwards, but sometimes you want that. He’s not throwing as good against Atlanta, yet if it were the Phillies or Yankees here tonight he’d probably have 5 K’s and 0 runs through 4 inning’s.

  100. EV says:

4-1 Nats Top 5, come on lets get some runs!!!!!

    • 911nafstem says:

ugh, if the horrible Nats beat the Phils and the Mets lose to this crap team I’m going to be nauseas

  101. 911nafstem says:

I love Ollie, but let’s face facts, he’s gonna be wearing a Rangers cap with a 5 era next season.

  102. nyj0128 says:

    Pedro as a closer?

  103. nyj0128 says:

Why wouldn’t the Mets bring him back? They’ve given big bucks to crap before like Kevin Appier. He’s still young and lefty. He’s a good pitcher. We’re a big market club. If they let him go to some team like Texas, that’s pathetic. If they get K-Rod, I’ll take that as a consolation, but still.

    • 911nafstem says:

Cause I can see the Rangers offering him an absolutely ridiculous contract (in the 18-20 mil for 5 years category) that the Wilpons wouldn’t match.

  104. nyj0128 says:

There are other good SP’s on the market though such as Derek Lowe and Jon Garland.

  105. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Keith ‘Phillies just can’t hit’.
Uh, not seeing the Mets doing much of that tonight either.

Come on guys, gets some hits/runs !

  106. Two-By-Four says:

The Braves are having a terrible year. They’re mailing it in against everyone else. But against the Mets they’re the 1927 Yankees. Damn I hate the Braves.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

The quicker we get used to this the better. We will probably lose 2 of 3 this series.

  107. ksuth says:

Does Castro swing the bat straight up?

  108. 911nafstem says:

It’s the same story, if the Mets have a crap pitcher on the ropes and let him off the hook, he inevitably shuts them down.

  109. EV says:

Come on we have to be able to score more than 2 runs off of Jo Jo freaking Reyes and his 5 era.

  110. khmustache says:

    first pitch popout…thank you escobar

  111. I just got relocated to Atlanta for work (hopefully back home to BK within a couple years), so I’m blacked out from watching SNY on the extra innings package, and I have to say, it’s borderline lawsuit material how venomous Caray and Simpson are towards Shea Stadium. Each one of them has expressed their desire to see it torn down “tonight” at least 4 times, Caray said he would want “nothing” to be saved as a memento and it’s just gone on and on for most of the game. I’ve seen them do this before, but it’s downright hateful and disrespectful to a stadium that means a lot to at least some people. Go ahead and say you don’t lie the park, but geez, you’re allegedly journalists.

  112. ksuth says:

    fking LArry!

  113. teufelshuffle86 says:

    another leadoff hit.

  114. 911nafstem says:

wouldn’t it be groundbreaking if the Mets had a starting pitcher with the balls to throw at Chippers chin for once?

    • ksuth says:

because they respect him enough to not to try to hurt some one, Clemmons.

      • 911nafstem says:

not hurt him, but get him a little uncomfortable. I mean for christ sake, he’s naming his freaking kid after the stadium!

    • khmustache says:

won’t happen, the last time they should have hit somebody they threw 4 feet behind him…stupid shawn estes…although he did hit a homerun off of clemens in that one

  115. khmustache says:

    nice play shrek!

  116. Nightlife says:

Ramon always gives me a good chuckle no matter what he is doing.

  117. SantanaCYYOung says:

    where is this team’s offense?

  118. AngryFan says:

they can’t snuff this team? When they don’t win the division their record against the braves doomed them

    chokers

  119. 911nafstem says:

great, well, looks like the Mets are going to be shut down by this clown, gotta hope Ollie keeps it close enough so they can come back against the bullpen

  120. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

I’m feeling a complete game for JoJo along with no hits allowed after the first inning.

  121. MetsFan4Decades says:

I mean, J.J. Reyes here? Who the hell is J.J. Reyes anyway?
    Am I missing something?

  122. miker94 says:

well, looks like the mets of early 08′ get down and can’t buy a hit. come on already, someone do something!

  123. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Evans 2 for 2!

  124. 911nafstem says:

I refuse to believe that a pitcher can turn from complete sht to gold in half an inning

    • danlx13 says:

its not the pitching….its the mets offense…they cant hit after the 1st inning.. Jojo reyes ishorrible…just look at the pitches hes making…they are not that good

  125. SantanaCYYOung says:

this team needed two important pieces before the deadline (and still do) and Omar got nothing

  126. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

“This is kind of stunning, the way Reyes is throwing” says Gary Cohen.

Is he serious? He really is stunned by this?

    • danlx13 says:

he is horrible…of course hes stunned…he is 3 and 9 with an era over 5 and he shutting down the mets tonight

      • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

How is that stunning? Pitchers like this always shut the Mets down it seems.

  127. chico says:

Why is nobody else concerned about re-signing OP to a long term deal? We all know what a head case he is and when you couple that with the fact that he WON’T be playing for a new contract, what are his numbers going to look like?

No thanks, save the money for someone else who isn’t a whack job, pocket the draft pick(s) and let him walk. Let Texas have him if they want him.

  128. 911nafstem says:

The Mets are like Mike Tyson, start out like gangbusters, if their opponent fights back, they waddle on the canvas looking for their mouthpiece

  129. EV says:

I’m sorry if Ollie loses this game it’s a crime. Freaking Mets offense of old, the lack of clutch hitting, score early and then pack it in, is back.

    • danlx13 says:

there hasnt been any clutch at bats yet in this game…and ollie is not pitching well at all

  130. EV says:

He’s obvioulsy does not have his best stuff, and he’s given up 3 runs in 6 innings, that’s a quality start in my book.

    • 911nafstem says:

yeah, this is more about the Mets offense than Ollie. You gotta hit JoJo freaking Reyes

    • Tina says:

Yeah, if you have watched Ollie at all, this is extremely encouraging. He’s hanging in there. His pattern has always been to fall apart completely if he’s not on. He’s not on, but he’s working. I’ve been on the fence about signing him, but seeing this, I’m ready to sign him, at even a pretty good price. He’ll be lights out a lot of the time, and if he can keep us in the game even when he doesn’t have it — the combination is not something you can pick up on every corner.

  131. AngryFan says:

I gues they were warriors against 2 teams that didn’t feel like bothering but the braves get up for these mets games.

John Franco said it best – this team doesn’t come to play every day

  132. MetsFan4Decades says:

I know Ollie does not have his best stuff here tonight but he’s kept us in the game. Where the heck is the offense to cover his back???
Here’s hoping they can get it done in these late innings.

  133. rM teM says:

tut tut now, relax everyone. we’re going to win this one.

  134. 911nafstem says:

ok Mets, take a deep breath, this pitcher is terrible, do your jobs

  135. rM teM says:

key chain night? when will they have smelt night??

  136. anonymii says:

I wish they played every inning like it was the first.

  137. SantanaCYYOung says:

this offense is ridiculously bad and delgado is back to his first half form

  138. nyj0128 says:

Just as you said, three runs in six innings is good. I want him back. Long term? As in what? I’m saying 3 or 4 year’s. Probably 4. 4 yr/52 MM seems fair in my mind. The only consolation will be if we go after a pitcher of similar quality. We got very good starting pitching and it should be the thing that carries this team. Look at the Yankees 96-00′. Pitching did it. Since than, they haven’t had it. With good health and a respectable bullpen, the Mets can have 4 fifteen game winner every year. Plus Jon Niese could join that club too.

  139. reyomcd1031 says:

Nice shout out to Matt “the King of Metsblogs” Cerrone by Gary Cohen. Well deserved!

  140. teufelshuffle86 says:

Looks like we’re back to April-May-June Delgado.

  141. 911nafstem says:

Make that 1-19 Gary. Seriously, has there ever been a more unclutch team than the ‘08 Mets? I guess the ‘07 Mets.

  142. nyj0128 says:

Delgado needs a day off. He goes cold every now and than, but over the past couple months in only usually last a couple days. We were complaining with Beltran, than he came through with a few hits since. These guy’s need rest though. They haven’t gotten it. Delgado’s an old guy. He’s played in just about the same amount of games as David and Jose.

  143. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Can we re-up with Delgado for July only next year?

  144. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Braves are 0-19 in 1 run games on the road this year. Guess what? They’re about to be 1-19.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Not when the bullpen comes in. They should give up at least two more in this game, thus negating that stat for tonight.

  145. nyj0128 says:

This is pretty sad though because Jo Jo Reyes just doesn’t have that good of stuff. He’s just lucky no one on this team can rip the crap out of him right now.

  146. SantanaCYYOung says:

wow! is that the middle of our lineup?

  147. teufelshuffle86 says:

Mets are making this hack look like Sandy Koufax.

  148. EV says:

    This offense SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  149. foul bunt strikeout says:

    pathetic

  150. 911nafstem says:

Don’t worry, Schoe, Sanchez, and the rest of the boys will take the drama out of this game real quick

  151. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    ugh

  152. SantanaCYYOung says:

hate to say this, but mets need castillo back

    • nyj0128 says:

Church even more. Castillo comes and goes though. Argenis Reyes done well for a few games. It doesn’t make sense. When he’s not playing well, they bat him second. Than when he starts to do good, they put a roughed up Easley who’s struggling back in the line up. Maybe when they get Church back, they can put Tatis at second.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

one more run and this game is out of reach, with this offense and this bullpen

  153. nyj0128 says:

The Braves offense sucks too. Both of them teams only scored in one run. Take out the bottom of the 1st and top of the 3rd and it’s a scoreless game. They caught a tough break with the ground rule double, but this game can still be won. And look at Washington right now.

    • 911nafstem says:

the Mets offense doesn’t suck though, that’s what’s so god damn frustrating about this

  154. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Ayala getting warm.

  155. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jesus, how did Delgado miss that one? He looked like he was standing in glue.

  156. 911nafstem says:

nice, looks like Ayala is going to break his Mets cherry by busting the game wide open

  157. khmustache says:

well here we go….not a bad game from ollie, considering his control was all over the place…it could’ve been a lot worse…

  158. EV says:

Delgado, after this year GOODBYE. I thought he could have had that one too.

  159. nyj0128 says:

We’re talking about how bad Jo Jo sucks. Look at Bergman. He’s thrown respectable against the Phillies. I never seen a pitcher get abused in one inning worse in that 12-0 Mets win last week

  160. MetsFan4Decades says:

    HAHAHAHA !!

  161. teufelshuffle86 says:

I like the way this Ayala throws!!! :D

  162. khmustache says:

    there you go ayala…

  163. hi5wright says:

Welcome Ayala, don’t break our hearts. Please.

  164. AngryFan says:

this team…..deserves the abuse they’re going to wind up with when all is said and done

    chokers

  165. 911nafstem says:

    at least he throws hard

  166. teufelshuffle86 says:

Does this guy have closer-type stuff?

  167. khmustache says:

ayala has a huge mitt…don’t see that very often

  168. This is a completely different discussion, but the universal agreement on the fact that pitching and pitching alone is what wins titles isn’t exactly on point. Let’s not forget that 10 position players on the ‘98 Yankees hit double digit homers, with every starter but Chad Curtis hitting at least 15 and 4 .300 hitters. To delve further into the Yankees as a franchise, we all now they’ve got more titles than anyone, but there really isn’t one Yankee starter outside of Whitey Ford (and I’m not counting Clemens, as his two peaks were in Boston and Houston, really, save one season) who even deserves to be mentioned as a top 30 all-time starter. The Cleveland Indians, and the Braves for that matter, both have histories absolutely loaded with great pitching, and 5 championships between them to show for it. In my mind, good teams win, period, be it with offense, pitching or a mix of both. I’ll concede that if your staff is awful you ain’t winning but if it’s good enough some pop will get you there.

    • dave27 says:

2002 Angels were the most offensively-skewed champion of the last 25 years, if not more.

  169. dave27 says:

To paraphrase the ESPN Sportsguy, does anyone know where I can buy stock in things like “Braves 3-9 scrub Jo-Jo Reyes will shut down the Mets for 6 innings and counting at home”?

  170. 911nafstem says:

    WOW, nice job Luis!

  171. teufelshuffle86 says:

    THERE YA GO!!!!

  172. hi5wright says:

    Ayalaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

  173. MetsFan4Decades says:

All right, Luis. Way to get it done.

  174. SantanaCYYOung says:

wow, that’s the best performance by a bullpen pitcher this year

  175. EV says:

Yea AYALA, can we score some freaking runs please.

  176. dave27 says:

Baseball is a funny game. I think 9 times out of 10 McCann hits that into the bullpen.

  177. Two-By-Four says:

Well that was nice and different from what we have been seeing.

  178. SantanaCYYOung says:

phillies about to tie, 1st and 3rd one out

  179. 911nafstem says:

now the offense has to build off of that. this is seriously getting ridiculous

  180. irishchris87 says:

Ayala looks like he could be a player. Good point by the SNY guys too, he’s pitched to everyone in this division, so none of these guys should come as a surprise to him.

  181. teufelshuffle86 says:

Can Ayala close? I mean at this point what are our options? I heard the Hoffman rumors floating around today on the FAN.

  182. DanTheAnswerMurphy says:

This has been driving me crazy for some time now.

What’s the name of the song they play on the organ during the mound visits?

  183. 911nafstem says:

    damn, Phillies tied

  184. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jo Jo out, let’s beat up this sh!t bullpen.

  185. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I liked the defiant way Ayala pointed his finger in the air after each of those pop-ups.

Let’s hope we can beat up on Bennett, now.

  186. 911nafstem says:

at least Easley can’t hit into a DP

  187. rM teM says:

    come on rrrrrrrrrrrramon

  188. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Let’s go Murph!

  189. SantanaCYYOung says:

Question: Why doesn’t Daniel Murphy play everyday? Nick Evans has absolutely no power and you want to see what this kid can do against lefties.

  190. dave27 says:

Crap. I was in charge of informing the Mets that the Braves BLOW and I totally forgot. Now they are confusing the Braves with a competent team with a decent bullpen.

    This one is on me.

  191. 911nafstem says:

Death, Taxes, Mets losing to the Braves

  192. irishchris87 says:

Is it just me or does it seem like NOTHING is falling in the outfield for both teams. Weird night.

  193. khmustache says:

    damn…unlucky half inning

  194. SantanaCYYOung says:

offense is horrendous, braves are 0-19 in one run games on the road, watch them break that streak today

  195. DanTheAnswerMurphy says:

What’s the name of the song they play on the organ during the mound visits? It’s not Green Onions

  196. teufelshuffle86 says:

Solid inning fellas. 3 solid AB’s. That 1/2 inning lasted about 3 seconds.

  197. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Still a one run game, folks. Let’s at least wait until Heilman blows it before we start groaning. :)

  198. 911nafstem says:

I’ve taken pisses longer than that inning

  199. EV says:

This is an absolute disgrace. Again, Perez without his best stuff kept the Mets in the game, he deserves a win.

  200. AngryFan says:

Must be nice to be able to take the night off like the Mets are

When the Braves come to shea, do the Mets just leave?

  201. teufelshuffle86 says:

When was the lat time the Mets had a baserunner?

  202. rM teM says:

    wow, that sucked

  203. teufelshuffle86 says:

Delgado once again looking like he’s standing in glue.

  204. MetsFan4Decades says:

I just don’t understand the mindset with the Braves. The Mets have dominated them – what? one season in the last 15?
    Mind boggling……

    • 911nafstem says:

It’s the Mets, when they get behind after leading they bat stupid, they’re not as selective as they are in the beginning of games

  205. dave27 says:

Am I the only one who would agree to the Mets starting the year 7-12 in echange for not having to play the Braves 19 times?

This is so miserable that I need a new word for miserable.

  206. 911nafstem says:

at least Reyes leads off next inning, just gotta hope Heilman can hold

  207. teufelshuffle86 says:

Braves are letting the relief pitcher hit. Why not just go and punch every Met in the balls while you’re at it.

  208. dave27 says:

And btw – Met-killers Kelly Johnson and Brian McCann were on the bench today.

    Yeah, we;re getting swept. Again.

  209. rM teM says:

heilman pitching him like he’s babe ruth

  210. rM teM says:

    lucky he swung

  211. 911nafstem says:

    haha, I LOVE IT!!!

  212. rM teM says:

    holy crap. u suck heilman

  213. SantanaCYYOung says:

here is heilman that we all know

  214. teufelshuffle86 says:

Way to walk the relief pitcher Aaron.

    YOU FKING SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

  215. khmustache says:

    i love walking rp………………….

  216. MetsFan4Decades says:

    I hate these Heilman walks……

  217. SantanaCYYOung says:

    5-4 phillies, always coming back

  218. AngryFan says:

And congrats to the Phillies, who are about to win and move into a virtual tie with the NY Chokers

  219. 911nafstem says:

and that ties up the division for all intents and purposes

  220. bkfitz says:

The Braves are about to be 1-19 in one-run games on the road.

  221. 911nafstem says:

just underhand it over the plate

  222. SantanaCYYOung says:

    double up the gap coming

  223. hi5wright says:

Now, can we actually make bad bullpens look like they’re supposed to?!

  224. MetsFan4Decades says:

YES !! Big ones for Aaron.

  225. teufelshuffle86 says:

Way to get out of it, you still suck.

  226. AngryFan says:

The division is NOT a possibility for the Mets.

At the end of this stretch, they needed to have a few game cushion.

    They won’t have that.

    Game. Set. Match. Phillies.

This team can’t be bothered to beat the Braves how can they ever beat a real team

    • foul bunt strikeout says:

dude, i am worried that you might have an aneurysm watching this bullpen…

I’d switch onto the olympics if I were you

  227. khmustache says:

dodged one there…lets put up some runs

  228. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

The fat lady has not yet sung.

    But she’s warming up.

  229. EV says:

Again, can we get at least one freaking run here please.

  230. KinersKornerman says:

Where did I put my defibrillator? Friggin Heilman does it to me every time.

  231. 911nafstem says:

come on, let’s take some pitches here, how about making the pitcher pitch from the stretch for once?

  232. SantanaCYYOung says:

    please somebody hit a homerun

  233. teufelshuffle86 says:

Since the first inning the Mets have one hit, ONE!

  234. 911nafstem says:

    and the horrible umpiring continues

  235. nyj0128 says:

Pitching doesn’t win championships alone. Hitting does too. As does defense. You can’t be like the Rangers of a couple years ago or the Rockies of the late 90’s and expect your team to win ball games. The pitching is the root. That includes both the bullpen and the starter’s. You need to have depth, health and more than anything else – clutch.

This would be a stupid term, but the Mets were on there high horse, pedestal or ”glory days” in all of 06′ and the first two months of 07′. I know Julio Franco wasn’t producing in the first half of 07′, but it’s a little weird how when they got rid of him they left that period they were in.

  236. dave27 says:

The umpires LOVE when the Braves beat the Mets.

  237. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, Jose. Need a Reyes run here.

  238. dave27 says:

If we only had Jeff Bennett!

  239. SantanaCYYOung says:

come on nick hit your first one here

  240. das2ble says:

when are the Mets going to snap out of it? they cannot just score runs in the first inning every game and hope to hang on for the win

  241. dave27 says:

Evans was so good when he pitched for the Bad New Bears…maybe we can convert him?

    Pick me a winner Bobby.

  242. 911nafstem says:

    this is so frustrating…

  243. SantanaCYYOung says:

only one hit since the first inning

  244. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Wow, a baserunner!!!!

  245. 911nafstem says:

    thatta boy Evans

  246. SantanaCYYOung says:

    two run homer david, please

  247. dave27 says:

Maybe Wright can forgo the DP here?

  248. nyj0128 says:

The Phils got the lead 5-4. Hopefully at least the Mets can win or Phillies lose. The Mets are 2-7 against the Braves though which is pretty pitiful. Who’d think the Mets in a rough period with the firing of Willie could snap that K-Rod streak? Maybe the Nats could do it to Brad Lidge’s.

  249. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice eye, Nick.
    Come David, you’re due.

  250. teufelshuffle86 says:

Why not pinch run here? Endy just rotting on the bench.

  251. KinersKornerman says:

one hit since the first inning. Forget Heilman. Blame the Dead Men Batting.

  252. nyj0128 says:

That was close. Let’s get a hit now.

  253. 911nafstem says:

it’s time for an MVP highlight here

  254. dave27 says:

No one is getting a fastball this inning.

  255. teufelshuffle86 says:

Braves announcers: “Wright has been a clutch hitter all year.”

  256. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Nice, let’s go Beltran!!!!!

  257. 911nafstem says:

this is the game right here, the Mets better not blow this opportunity

  258. SantanaCYYOung says:

there went our chance with that walk, don’t trust beltran or delgado

  259. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. Beltran – give me something to cheer about here.

  260. nyj0128 says:

    There we go.

  261. teufelshuffle86 says:

Guy can’t throw strikes right now. Keep taking.

  262. 911nafstem says:

wow, that didn’t breed much confidence

  263. dave27 says:

Why does anyone, ever, throw Beltran anything but low sliders and curves?

  264. teufelshuffle86 says:

    YAAAA!!!!! Bases juiced!!

  265. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Yes !

Do NOT even think about stranding these 3 here….

  266. das2ble says:

that is pretty much the best that Beltran can do right now

  267. teufelshuffle86 says:

Bringing in the lefty to face Delgado. Not a good matchup here.

  268. das2ble says:

I never thought I would hate to have the bases loaded……..

  269. atlantas1metsfan says:

c’mon Delgado…I’m begging you..stay back on the ball!!!

  270. SantanaCYYOung says:

    phills win

  271. AngryFan says:

    Guaranteed DP

  272. nyj0128 says:

All we need is a stupid sac fly. One of those fly balls that irritate us to start out an inning. Drive in a damn run Delgado.

  273. Wright88 says:

    c’mon GS

  274. teufelshuffle86 says:

what about a squeeze here? :D

  275. das2ble says:

    squeeze?

  276. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Just missed!!!

  277. Wright88 says:

    damnit!

  278. 911nafstem says:

bases loaded….game over best chance was Chipper throwing that ball away

  279. Wright88 says:

You don’t squeeze with the bases loaded

  280. teufelshuffle86 says:

    YAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

  281. MetsFan4Decades says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  282. nyj0128 says:

    Come on Delgado.

  283. Wright88 says:

    Eat it angry and 911

  284. dave27 says:

    Nice! That ball was DRILLED.

  285. SantanaCYYOung says:

    my man delgado..

  286. das2ble says:

    DEL-GOT-IT!

  287. khmustache says:

    DELGADO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DELGADO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  288. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Damn, Carlos missed a grand slam by about 2 inches there.

  289. EV says:

    FINALLY!!!!!!

  290. teufelshuffle86 says:

Missed a GS by two feet!! Still only one out!

  291. Dafatone80 says:

    Yes!

  292. nyj0128 says:

    See, he listens to me.

  293. nyj0128 says:

    Let’s score some more.

  294. dave27 says:

Now PLEASE get these two more runs in and make this a comfortable 9th.

  295. 911nafstem says:

This win is on Ayala if they pull it out. They NEED a couple more runs here

  296. nyj0128 says:

    Braves will be 0-20.

  297. Wright88 says:

love to see Delgado go the other way, even the foul ball. Nice work staying back

  298. teufelshuffle86 says:

Is Show really going to come in and try and save this game? Ugh.

  299. SantanaCYYOung says:

easley, lets break this game open

  300. atlantas1metsfan says:

c’mon fernando finish em off!! WE NEED INSURANCE

  301. Wright88 says:

    C’mon Easley, no DP

  302. nyj0128 says:

Bring in Feliciano. Come on. He’s got 2 and doesn’t make us get mad with seeing Show.

  303. 911nafstem says:

good, now I might get some enjoyment out of the Yankees losing

  304. atlantas1metsfan says:

    I hate Easily right now…

  305. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I sense a shift in momentum. I say Easley gets a base hit here.

  306. rM teM says:

I’ve been telling u all nite that we’re going to win this one

  307. nyj0128 says:

They gotta break it open here or at worse, score run. Damion’s got luck though. Remember that helmet.

  308. Wright88 says:

Well we’ve got 2 righties and Chipper coming up so why not Smith?

  309. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Gimme one more here!!

  310. atlantas1metsfan says:

    C’mon lets get Tavarez..f’in antisemite..

  311. nyj0128 says:

Who doesn’t get enjoyments out of the Yankees losing besides Yankees fans? lol There announcer’s hate the Rays which is pretty sad. At least a guy who should be a Met can take care of the responsibility of taking care of the Yankees.

  312. 911nafstem says:

    YES!

  313. rM teM says:

    weeee

  314. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Told ya!

  315. das2ble says:

    FINALLY EASLEY

  316. Wright88 says:

Show blows against righties doesn’t he? Why not use Smith?

  317. khmustache says:

    EASLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  318. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Easley comes thru!

    Woo – Hoo !!

  319. EV says:

    EASLEY!!!! HUGE insurance runs.

  320. wa2k99 says:

    EEEEASELYYYYY!!!

  321. teufelshuffle86 says:

Come on Ramon ‘Brave Killer’ Castro!

  322. atlantas1metsfan says:

    mas por favor

  323. nyj0128 says:

Yup. There we go. Score some more now. I don’t want to run my luck out with my wishes. I’ll save them for the pen.

  324. 911nafstem says:

Still, with Schoe, best the clean the bases here

  325. dave27 says:

    I want more. Much more.

  326. nyj0128 says:

Feliciano can get it done against righty’s. Just no Duaner tonight. You can go with multiple guy’s. Or even why not Brian Stokes with a 3 run lead?

  327. teufelshuffle86 says:

    BRAVE KILLER!!!!

  328. danlx13 says:

    CASTRO

  329. Wright88 says:

hmm…we could send Heilman back out there. nvm, we broke it open

  330. rM teM says:

this just keeps getting better and better

  331. das2ble says:

    Wow Castro wow

  332. khmustache says:

    SHREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

  333. nyj0128 says:

    More. More.

  334. teufelshuffle86 says:

How many pitchers is Bobby Cox gonna use tonight? It’s now a 4-run game.

  335. MetsFan4Decades says:

    And Castro continues !

    YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  336. So do you think they’ll keep Heilman pitching?

  337. nyj0128 says:

Who here remembers that game when the Mets were losing 8-1 and came back to beat Atlanta with that Piazza home run off that thing in LF that looks like it’s apart of the wall? I remember watching that whole game. Ramon’s getting it done. It must suck to be a Braves fan.

  338. SantanaCYYOung says:

    love this inning

  339. 911nafstem says:

Mrs Cox may want to lock Bobby outta the house after this one

  340. KinersKornerman says:

Bobby Cox getting some serious TV time this inning.

  341. nyj0128 says:

Heilman’s arm might go cold after a long inning. They might ”need” him later in the week. If they leave him out there, as long as he doesn’t make us breath hard I’m happy.

  342. nyj0128 says:

Guess not. Either way, I’m happy.

  343. 911nafstem says:

the sad thing is I’m still not comfortable with this bullpen

    • Steve in DC says:

4, maybe 5 runs ahead? I’ll take my chances with The Show.

    • Tina says:

Oh come on. Let that sourness go. This could be a turnaround for us. Who thought, even with men on base, that we probably would not get a run this inning? All of us, not to mention most of the team, no doubt. They needed to get over that doubt, and they did.

A big portion of the bullpen failures this year could have been chalked up just as well to the lack of offense.

      Ya gotta believe!!

  344. danlx13 says:

still not enough with our bullpen

  345. nyj0128 says:

It’s hard for Braves fans to accept how bad they suck. From great pitching to one of the worse. Amazing year for Chipper, but loads of injuries. Great second half with Texeira and now they trade him. And no Salty for that future.

  346. nyj0128 says:

Let them insult our ballpark all they want. No one cares about them. The only thing that kind of pisses me off with the Mets is that they sold out by using Citi Bank as their sponsor. Turner didn’t do that. They were who they were with Shea and the Yankees won’t do that. I guess it’s a business though.

  347. khmustache says:

so this is what it’s like on the other side of a bullpen meltdown

  348. rM teM says:

    heinous

  349. wa2k99 says:

My gf is a Braves fan and I will see her in 20 mins. She will not be pleased!!!!

  350. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Great play.

  351. nyj0128 says:

    That was some play

  352. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Maddux traded to Dodgers today.

  353. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    C’mon, Endy. We need more.

  354. rM teM says:

they show bobby in the dugout figuring a way to win this.
    He’s a genious you know.

  355. teufelshuffle86 says:

I’m sure Endy hadn’t planned on hitting this inning. Wasn’t he just on base?

  356. teufelshuffle86 says:

Nice inning!!!! Let’s finish ‘em off.

  357. nyj0128 says:

Yeah, they shouldn’t have trade for Tex. Or they should have at least made the committment of giving him the money. It doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.

If the Mets were to go after Pat Burrell in the offseason which would serve two purposes of taking a weapon away from the Phillies and giving us one in the offseason, do you guy’s think it’d make sense to use F-Mart in RF and consider the idea of Church at 1B. Some food for thought, but you never know how he might handle that kind of transition with his concussion problems.

  358. khmustache says:

    great great inning…cmon bullpen 1-2-3

  359. SantanaCYYOung says:

    is 4 runs enough?

  360. stickguy says:

Thank goodness for the Braves pen!

Of course, the Mets still have to survive the 9th with their pen, so keep piling up those insurance runs.

  361. 911nafstem says:

Just throw strike, if Schoe walks the first guy, it’s time to get nervous

  362. nyj0128 says:

Yes. 1-2-3. The most important thing is to not let the first runner get on. 51 percent of the time that means you give up a run. For the Mets, that means multiple. That means hair closs and high blood pressure. Let’s just win tonight and get off to a good home stretch.

  363. nyj0128 says:

If 4 run’s isn’t enough, that’s sad. At least we know Heilman did good tonight and couldn’t contribute to such. I got confidence with Show though. It’s not a save situation which seems to matter in these pitcher’s minds.

  364. 911nafstem says:

    HUGE

  365. AzMetsFan says:

ya gotta love the Braves announcer saying “well that was awful folks” at the end of that inning

  366. MetsFan4Decades says:

    1 down. Clap Clap Clap.

  367. khmustache says:

    2 more…

  368. nyj0128 says:

There we go. 1 out on 1 pitch. Arguably as important as the first runner, the first pitch should always be a strike.

  369. rM teM says:

stop biting your nails, this one’s in the books

  370. dave27 says:

    Ron Darling is 48…that’s depressing.

  371. teufelshuffle86 says:

    2 DOWN!

  372. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    You suck
    Chipper
    Clap, Clap, Clap-Clap-Clap

  373. MetsFan4Decades says:

2 down. Clap Clap Clap !

  374. nyj0128 says:

I’ll never believe that until I see it with this team lol

  375. khmustache says:

    LARRY!!!!! LARRRRRRRYYYYY!!!!!! LAAAAARRRRRRYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

    one more

  376. teufelshuffle86 says:

Am I about to witness a comeback win? Against the Brave no less? Somebody smack me.

  377. teufelshuffle86 says:

Of course this can’t end easily.

  378. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, Shoe. Don’t need any drama here, thank you.

  379. teufelshuffle86 says:

    PUT IT IN THE BOOKS!!!!!!

  380. rM teM says:

what i say? what i say??

  381. EV says:

    NICE WIN!!!!!

  382. MetsFan4Decades says:

PUT IT IN THE BOOKS !!

    Woo – Hoo !!

Kudos to Ollie and the BP.

    Nice offense late !

Doesn’t get any better than this……

  383. nyj0128 says:

We can breath. Thank you Scott.

  384. khmustache says:

    DONE AND DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so much for the guaranteed loss eh angry?

  385. nyj0128 says:

I liked the way Ayala threw. Maybe he could be like our 06′ Mota.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

If we are looking to fill the closer role, he might not be a bad choice for the immediate future.

      • nyj0128 says:

Yeah, definitely. It’s only been one game though so far. But a change of scenary can boost a pitcher’s confidence. At least coming to the Mets pen there’s less pressure that you’ll lose your roster spot with the 40 man opening up soon. Plus, how much worse can anyone be? He’s got similar numbers to Aaron – even in terms of decisions.

If Wagner is going to be out for an extended period of time, perhaps most of September or even the rest of the year than Omar’s got to keep looking. Maybe Ambiorix Burgos can make an impact. We could still use another reliever via trade though. It doesn’t have to be anyone amazing. Someone like a Brocail or Gary Majeski.

  386. nyj0128 says:

At least Aaron Heilman can say his record looks like a starting pitcher. He’s got more decision’s than Pedro and probably will at the end of the year.

  387. nyj0128 says:

David Weathers is actually the best option out there because of his closing experience. Plus he did well with the Mets and has pitched for the Yankees too. I don’t know what he’ll cost them though. He’s a FA at the end of the year and the Reds are obviously done.
