I did not say this seriously, and no I don’t think this would ever happen. I was just tossing Andruw Jones out there, because of the posts above about taking Pavano and Hampton and such garbage. It was kind of a fun joke post, but keep arguing guys….

Jones cannot hit. At all. His OPS is about .515 this year in 200 AB.

I personally think that we keep Castillo for now (of course barring some team wanting him) and then try Murphy in maybe winter ball and certainly in the spring at second, and that’s the plan for next year.

However, we cannot be sure he can hack it. So, we keep Castillo and do whatever we can to get him healthy, and he is insurance next spring. If Murphy can do the job, then I LOVE DFA’ing Castillo like next May or June, and then we don’t have him OR Andruw on our team by midsummer next year.

Just my thoughts.

its really not that ridiculous if you break it down a bit. Both guys are being payed the same amount for the rest of their contract. However the big difference here is that Jones is only on the books for 1 year and Castillo 3. So effectively we could have Murphy at 2nd next year and Jones as a bench player. Sure he would be an expensive bench player, but we are really just trading away a blocked (less than ideally unproductive) roster spot of 3 years, for a less than productive roster spot for 1 year that could be a threat off the bench or a 5th OF.

or we could just DFA castillo and role with Murphy next year.
