The Mets current leaders in wins (Mike Pelfrey), RBI (David Wright), and runs scored (Jose Reyes) are all 25 years old or younger.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, since 1920, no big-league team has made the post-season with three players, all 25 or younger, leading the team in wins, RBI or runs scored.
Meanwhile, David Lennon of Newsday profiles Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans and how their buddy system is helping them prove they belong in the show.

love the picture…totally underrated movie imo…it’s amazing what one season does to the outlook a team. the mets started this season as one of the oldest teams out there…now (barring any setbacks/injuries/flameouts) they have a very bright future ahead of them. i for one couldn’t be happier
Great movie. But I think Young Guns II was better.
Yoo hoo…
I’ll make ya famous…
Both are amazing movies in my book. Brings me back. Oh, and records were made to be broken, so let’s be the first team to have younsters lead us in wins, rbis and runs scored…or just have Santana ties with Pelf for wins. ;)
*tied not ties
word
Note to Omar…..No more trades of young
players for guy’s with a few years left. The
good young players are so much fun to watch!
Dynasty in the Making!
Don’t say the “d” word. Reminds me of Bill Belichick, and then I feel a wave of nausea.
As long as it’s the Yankees version, and not the Bills version.
I wonder if Mike Carp is lonely. I still think he could play in Japan and be the first player to have his name both on the front and back of the jersey, to the letter. Al Reyes certainly doesn’t count.
wright is also tied with reyes for runs scored
Does that make Chipper Jones the fat guy with the shotguns?
lol!!!!!!!
“no big-league team has made the post-season with three players, all 25 or younger, leading the team in wins, RBI or runs scored.”
Pretty sure that’s supposed to be “AND” runs scored. Just from our own franchise, Tom Seaver and David Cone both were under 25 and led the team in wins when they went to the postseason, and Wright and Reyes led the team in RBI and Runs respectively in 2006. So I’m pretty sure it’s that all 3 haven’t happened in the same season…
Let’s make history two years in a row then.
if big pelf runs off 7-8 wins and wright picks up some more rbis we can lead the league, let alone the team, in those 3 cat.
PS: lets keep Castillo off the field, Omar. The lids are working and keeping it going.
Reyes/Easley combo are better, no matter what Cohen flings our way < 500 times a game about Castillo.
there’s like a .0001% chance of Pelfrey leading the league in wins. He’s got 7 starts left, at most, which even if he wins all of them gets him to 19, tying him with what Brandon Webb has right now. All Webb needs to do is win one more game to clinch that (at least in regards to Pelfrey)
It’s an odd stat but point taken anyway. The kids are leading the way. Are the stars going to stay aligned? Who knows but it’s fun to see so far!!!
And the great thing about that stat is that they’re all home grown mets, with Pelfrey coming into his own this season.
As for Castillo, i really don’t wanna see him on the team. We’re doing so well with Reyes and Easley that i don’t want to see that get messed up just becuz we gave him that stupid contract. If Murphy and Evans hadn’t been doing so well i would have said we should trade Castillo to Arizona this offseason for Eric Byrnes. Trade 2 guys who had their season cut short by injuries and are signed for a couple more years. But i can’t help but get excited for how well these guys are playing. Especially Murphy.
can the mets trade castillo back to FLA for Uggla…he is one of their big contracts they will look to move in the winter.
let the platoon ride out the year, then with easley another year wiser, reyes can be the sub in for uggla, who will start at 2b for 145 games in the new shea…LGM.
