Don’t we owe the Stros some payback!!!

Troy August 22, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Johan is 11-7 not 10-7

Let’s go Mets !!

Aquadealer August 22, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Keep Slappy away from this team

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 6:55 pm

They said he will be back tomorrow, will be in the line up tomorrow and don’t know who will be sent down yet for him.

Aquadealer August 22, 2008 at 6:57 pm

I read that also…….set Slappy free

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 6:58 pm

I’m guessing they’ll send A. Reyes down for a week. Can’t see them sending Evans or Murphy down and not Stokes, with the state of this BP….

mdemaio August 22, 2008 at 6:59 pm

It’s got to be Reyes…the left field platoon is going nowhere, and you’re not going to carry fewer pitchers. Who else can go, barring injury?

Ceetar August 22, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Who’s Slappy? A. Reyes?

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:01 pm

A joke? If not, Slappy = Castillo. A. Reyes – currently platooning with Easley at 2nd.

T-Pac August 22, 2008 at 7:05 pm

That’s funny considering how much more power “Slappy” has than Argenis Reyes, he of one (1) XBH.

Aquadealer August 22, 2008 at 7:06 pm

At least A Reyes can field a ground ball

T-Pac August 22, 2008 at 7:27 pm

That is an excellent reason to call Luis Castillo “Slappy.” Congratulations.

Aquadealer August 22, 2008 at 7:31 pm

I didnt name him…..hopefully he doesnt have the same effect on this team as he did last season.

T-Pac August 22, 2008 at 7:53 pm

His bad effect was because he was a crappy hitter who was consistently placed 2nd in the order. However, Argenis Reyes is an even worse hitter who is also (stupidly) being hit 2nd in the order.

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 7:52 pm

I thought Manuel said that those who were playing the best baseball would play?

So????

T-Pac August 22, 2008 at 8:24 pm

I don’t put much stock into anything Jerry Manuel says. Anyone who’d bat not only Luis Castillo, but also the terrible Argenis Reyes, in the 2-hole doesn’t deserve respect as far as baseball acumen is concerned.

Ceetar August 22, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Has Manuel lived up to much of anything he’s said?

of course, Castillo is the best 2B on this team.

mdemaio August 22, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Wow, 8 lefts and a Wright..

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 6:41 pm

iou list:

pirates: check
braves: check
astros:

LETS GO METS!!!

Midtown August 22, 2008 at 7:01 pm

As mad a fantasy owner as I was when Carlos Lee went down, I’m not longer complaining…

freshprince07 August 22, 2008 at 7:05 pm

Castillo up, Heilman down please

adriel August 22, 2008 at 7:06 pm

I like Reyes I just hope Castillo can comeback and contribute.

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:13 pm

CHURCH!

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Watch that wall, Ryan.

BlueCapsOnly August 22, 2008 at 7:14 pm

haha Los Mets tonight.

Otherwise known as “The New York THE Mets”

Felonious Monk August 22, 2008 at 9:30 pm

I wonder if they’ll wear uniforms that say “ha-Metim” on them on Jewish Heritage Night. ;-)

( “met” = “dead” in Hebrew; ha-metim = the mets or “the corpses”)

BlueCapsOnly August 22, 2008 at 7:21 pm

how many fouls balls does a guy have to hit before you decide, ok I’m not gonna strike him out, might aswell drill him.

BlueCapsOnly August 22, 2008 at 7:22 pm

hmmm, as soon as I say that the K happens

ImissPiazza August 22, 2008 at 7:23 pm

I wish Johan had some more wins. If he did, we could be talking cy young between he and webb.

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Don’t like the bunt there…Oswalt is a strike out pitcher and he’ll strand guys on third more often than most…

JoseReyesForPresident August 22, 2008 at 7:29 pm

1-0 dodgers

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:29 pm

go blue!

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:29 pm

Another Reyes run!

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:29 pm

WRIGHT!!!

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Oswalt is pretty f’ing filthy

ImissPiazza August 22, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Oswalt would look good in blue and orange.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Crap. Almost.

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:39 pm

dang

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:41 pm

Karma there.

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:43 pm

nice k

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:46 pm

yay church!

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Ryan Church – Clap. Clap. Clap.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 7:48 pm

GOODBYE –
Woo – Hoo Brian !!

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 7:48 pm

good god, Schneider

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 7:48 pm

SCHNEIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gipper82475 August 22, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Did Schneider find LoDuca’s stash in the clubhouse near the catchers’ gear in the last week and a half?

BlueCapsOnly August 22, 2008 at 7:55 pm

No… LoDuca wasn’t a HR hitter, it must have been Hundley’s

adam11216 August 22, 2008 at 7:50 pm

i don’t think even castillo can stop this team right now.

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Don’t be so sure. We have momentum and chemistry with this group and now Manuel is going back on his word.

adam11216 August 22, 2008 at 7:51 pm

maddux is at 23 pitches through 3. i’d LOVE to see a sub-70 pitch complete game shutout.

adam11216 August 22, 2008 at 8:07 pm

crap.

911nafstem August 22, 2008 at 7:58 pm

They’re really making Santana work. Unless he’s prepared to go 120, the Mets bullpen may have to actually come through tonight

gomets6091 August 22, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Just tuned in, good to see the 3-0 lead. When did Brian Schneider turn into Mike Piazza? Didn’t he hit a homerun last week, I thought he was supposed to be done for the month.

Also, was Church’s hit a bloop or was it hit hard? And finally, what’s the deal with the female PA announcer? I’ve never heard her before…

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 8:00 pm

replied down there…sorry forgot to hit reply

adam11216 August 22, 2008 at 8:01 pm

church’s hit was a slow roller to third that he beat out.

i think the new PA announcer is realted to the Los Mets jerseys – remember her from the last time they wore them.

BlueCapsOnly August 22, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Have you noticed the language she is speaking? Its Los Mets tonight, or as I said earlier “The New York THE Mets”

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 7:59 pm

Santana isn’t sharp tonight (I think we can forgive him, haha)…seems to be channeling John Maine with the foul balls

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 8:00 pm

church hit a soft grounder to third that looked foul but stayed fair. the female pa announcer is there for latin night.

DavidDog August 22, 2008 at 8:02 pm

lots of good news, but santana is struggling. gotta get through this inning and hope for a strong 6… then pray.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Delgado was robbed.

bkfitz August 22, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Anyone else annoyed at how many foul balls the Astros are hitting?

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 8:26 pm

If you had 8:26 p.m. in your office pool for Gary’s first mention of the “3 Kings” tonight, you win!

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 8:28 pm

hahaha – I caught that. You knew it was coming…

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Johan doesn’t exactly have his best stuff tonight. Here’s hoping he can get this out here.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 8:29 pm

Very nice, Johan.

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 8:29 pm

huge play there by Johan!

erik August 22, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Can Kaz Matsui please play a series at Shea so he can finally get booed?

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 8:44 pm

we’re going to need 9 outs from the pen tonight…

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Scary….

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Phillies 4, Andre Ethier 1

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 8:52 pm

I like this move keeping Santana in.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Believe Santana’s 5 Ks include 3 by Oswalt….

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Phillies 7-1

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:00 pm

With the stuff he had tonight, it’s simply unbelievable that Santana got through 7 innings without giving up a run…amazing

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 9:02 pm

And he still dialed it up to 94 mph in the 7th. It’s like he’s toying with the other team.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:00 pm

Nice effort by Johan tonight. Gamer…..

Flushing_is_Burning August 22, 2008 at 9:02 pm

wow Johan is a gamer!!!

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 9:03 pm

So who pitches for us in the 8th? Sanchez? Heilman? Al Reyes?

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:04 pm

LOLL – A. Reyes….

Looks like Heilman.

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:05 pm

al reyes is in double-AA, my man

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Of course Al Reyes is in AA. I knew that. Who doesn’t know that? Geez. (lol)

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:07 pm

bring on the bullpen

::good vibes::

Flushing_is_Burning August 22, 2008 at 9:09 pm

hold on tight boys and girls!

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Come on, Aaron. Get it done here.

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:14 pm

nice throw by David

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:16 pm

SOLID inning for, Aaron…

3 more outs…

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Yes!
Aaron gets it done.
3 more outs. Be nice to get a couple of more runs here.

Nightlife August 22, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Bizarro Heilman!!!!

Nightlife August 22, 2008 at 9:22 pm

Didn’t get to catch most the game, but other than us getting the 3 off Oswalt early he pitched a very solid game too.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Yes, he did. Have to give credit where credit is due.

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:25 pm

considering he retired 20 straight to end the game, I’d say yes

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:24 pm

not in love with this move bringing in ayala

Nightlife August 22, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Looking good thus far.

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:30 pm

agreed. I stand corrected

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:26 pm

1 down. Nice K.

Chan Ho Parking Lot August 22, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Man an that is a nice sinker Ayala has.

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:28 pm

wow. And 2 down. Another nice K.

Nightlife August 22, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Alright, ONE MORE!

MetsFan4Decades August 22, 2008 at 9:29 pm

In the books. Props to Santana and Ayala.

‘Baseball….the way it outta be.’
Get the lead, keep the lead, win the game.

adam11216 August 22, 2008 at 9:29 pm

No drama, baby!

reyesnwright August 22, 2008 at 9:29 pm

I guess we know who the new closer is…

khmustache August 22, 2008 at 9:29 pm

DONE AND DONE!!!!

we might have found a closer….: )

ReyesMets August 22, 2008 at 9:29 pm

wow…beautiful way to end the game.

GREAT win considering how filthy Oswalt was tonight

twassel August 22, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Ayala!

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 9:30 pm

What a bullpen!!!!

Nightlife August 22, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Ahh, our old friend David Newhan.

Great game. Ayala pick up has been excellent so far.

Chan Ho Parking Lot August 22, 2008 at 9:31 pm

If he can do what Mota did back in September 06, we’ll be all set.

Chan Ho Parking Lot August 22, 2008 at 9:31 pm

I like Ayala’s stuff. 93 up in the zone and 88 downward sink.

The Slider August 22, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Ayala seems to straight arm or sling-shot the ball, but you can’t argue with the results. And he seemed fired-up. I liked his attitude and presence on the mound.

anonymii August 22, 2008 at 9:32 pm

I like that camera view of them all walking down the tunnel to the clubhouse after the game.

Jimbabway August 22, 2008 at 9:33 pm

13-4 Without Wagner…..
what a bullpen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs August 22, 2008 at 9:34 pm

I was sending heilman some serious good vibes through my computer screen. He’s got plenty of time to make me forget april-july.

I guess ayala is the closer? whatever. whoever gets outs

chico August 22, 2008 at 9:43 pm

and who says you can’t pick up a closer AFTER the trade deadline for absolutely nothing! Is the world upside down here or what? I’m loving it!
