Hitting home runs is the only part of Chase Utley’s offense that’s better at home. His batting average is about 20 points higher on the road and his on-base average is 50 points higher. Chase collected more doubles, triples and walks, but he hit seven more home runs in four fewer games.
Cody Ross is close to his average hit going for a double. He’s knocked out 92 hits hits season good for 176 total bases. He homered, doubled and singled Friday night.
The Braves allowed 89 runs in their last 12 games, 7.4 runs per game. They are 1-11 in the stretch with Friday night starter Charlie Morton posting a 10.24 ERA despite striking out 10 batters in 9 2/3 innings. It’s all or nothing with Morton in this stretch as he allowed 16 hits and 11 walks.
Anderson Hernandez is 5 for 9 since joining the Nationals. That’s almost 1/3 of his major league hits.

Anyone going to the game tonight?
Yup
On-base percentage. There is no such thing as on-base average.
only the really cool kids call it OBA, since .xxx is not a “percentage.” stupid but true.
It’s not called OBA because the BA would throw some people off thinking that it’s sometime of batting average stat.
I’ve heard it referred to as both
lol
Does this make sense to anyone?
“Cody Ross is close to his average hit going for a double. He’s knocked out 92 hits hits season good for 176 total bases.”
Cody Ross is averaging almost two bases on every hit.
That is what he meant.
Or his slugging percentage (or average) is nearly twice his BA.
Let Cody ross play everyday and he wont get the rest needed to average 1B for every hit…lol
Yeah, I had to read it twice…a pretty odd way of saying he is just about averaging two total bases per hit…
Anderson Hernandez has nearly done more for the Mets in one week on the Nats than he did in his whole career for the Mets.
he made that nice catch.. anyone know a link to it.
pitchers are weird guys…
Josh Beckett is missing a start due to persistent numbness and tingling in his elbow and hand. Sounds awful, how did it happen you wonder?
“Beckett first reported numbness and tingling in his right hand after sleeping on his arm the night before his latest start, Aug. 17, when he gave up eight runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings in a 15-4 loss to Toronto. He’s now sleeping with a special sleeve to prevent a recurrence of the problem.”
He’s wearing an air case on his arm when he goes to bed so he doesnt injure himself worse…
Its amazing pitchers ever make 30 starts a year when you hear stuff like this.
Yeah.
One of the (many) reasons I was so ecstatic about acquiring Johan was his durability. The man just doesn’t miss starts and that in itself is very valuable in today’s game. I just hope he can continue to be this durable through a good portion of his contract.
When David Cone had his anuerysm back in the 1990s, these were the symptoms he experienced before they made the final diagnosis. Cone cam back fine, obviously, but I hope that Beckett is ok. Don’t want to mess with that stuff.
Citizens Bank Park really only boosts HR totals for almost everyone. Hits, doubles, triples all are lower there than elsewhere, so of course BA and OBP go down too.
By the way, our second round draft pick Brad Holt put up 10 ks again in Brooklyn. Wow, just wow. HE might be that kid that finally put u eye popping numbers in the minors. We haven’t had a kid put up numbers like this since Kazmir. I got take the train down to coney Island before they move him.
Phillie bats look like they’re waking up. September’s going to be fun…
fun? fun is a 10 game lead and putting them under for good…you must be a phils fan as last year was agonizing, or unfun.
There is nothing more fun than a hard-fought, World Series-winning run.
gratifying might be the word you are looking for. as a fan, I’ll take in the bank 10 game lead over fun, game 7 world series?
Besides, a bit premature to be talking WS isnt it? Let win the division first, because no wildcard is coing from the NLeast.
Is it me or does it seem that the Phillies play 140 games at Citizen’s Bank Park each season? Obviously, they don’t. But it seems like every highlight is a home game for the phillies.
Guess you missed that 4 game sweep by the Dodgers in LA last week?
