Parnell has 141 IP this year after 144 IP last year, so he should have something left in the tank after two more AAA starts. However his AAA ERA is 7.43 in 3 starts (despite 16K and 4 BB) and as I noted above he doesnt really have the refined secondary pitches to be a big league starter. I would hope to see him in the Mets pen using his high 90's fastball in short stints, I think he can help them in this area.

Niese has 156 1/3 IP after 134 1/3 IP last year. After two more starts he will have 30-35 more IP than last year and will most likely be shut down for the year. He is supposed to start today for the Z's so if the Mets want to use him they should get on that soon...
He is quite strong against lefties, but then so is Collazo.

Parnell's array of pitches is exactly the same as that of Aaron Heilman's. Parnell has less control of his secondary pitches, however as a reliever he can get his fastball up to 97.

I'm not sure what he would provide on the big league level and without secondary stuff he really cant be a starter yet.

Agreed. John Maine is a young man and hopefully has a long future ahead of him. I know we all want to win this season and I hope the team does. Maybe I'm alone here but I don't want to risk the future on this season when I think there is a real good chance the New York Mets could be better next season.

There's another option at New Orleans--Bobby Parnell. Would the Mets bring him up now? Hmmm.

I'd think that Brandon Knight would get a start before Lugo would. And, Jon Niese will be on the flight north this week.

Tough call. Maine is too important to the future of the team to risk long term damage trying to gut him through this season.

Now if it was an old guy like Pedro or Duque, you run him out there!

I worry that he changes mechanics and ends up hurting something else working around the pain.

Stokes is supposed to get a start for Pelfrey, so if Maine doesn't go, who? Neise might be getting up their in innings too. Parnell?

I'm thinking it could be back to the Vargas types if they need to cover for Maine.

Or maybe Stokes pitches for Pelfrey, they skip Maines turn with a day off, and by the time his next turn comes up, rosters expand and they can pitch everyone and their brother in a tag team!
