Rickey Nolasco tries to continue his dominance of the Diamondbacks this afternoon.  He won both starts against Arizona this season allowing just two runs in 15 innings while striking out 16 batters.

Pat Burrell is 9 for 25 batting in the third slot of the order this season.  In his career, Burrell has batted regularly in the 3, 4, 5 6 and 7 slots.  When batting third, Pat produces his lowest batting average but his highest slugging percentage.  He produces fewer hits, but more total bases.

Chipper Jones leads Albert Pujols by just four points in the race for the National League batting title.  Albert is 16 for his last 30 to raise his batting average from .345 to .356.  In the same time, Chipper went 9 for 32 to lower his BA from .366 to .360.

A Ryan Dempster pitch hit Lastings Milledge on the hand Saturday.  His hand is bruised, but the injury should not keep him out of Sunday’s game.

I guess we’re not getting pregame threads anymore – or on that weekend.

    Let’s Go Mets!

    Metsblog.com needs a weekend guy…

    Baseball isn’t Mon-Fri, folks!

    • Ceetar says:

eh. It is for most of the newspapers and front office guys. Rarely do the major things happen in the weekends. a nd we usually do have a pregame thread, of course those threads are rarely more than the lineups anyway, so waht’s thdifference?

      • bkfitz says:

There can’t be a discussion on the game here. People have to “hijack” threads such as this.

    • Ceetar says:

Although, someone really needs to code Matt a widget for the standings (and even the confidence ratings) so that they update automatically.

    • SuicideWatch says:

Geez, I know. I’m available to blog onthe weekends for a small fee.

    All right Carlos !!!

    beltran is so unclutch.

    • Ceetar says:

He could have a postseason like he did in Houston and people would still say that.

      • Dafatone80 says:

What two players are tied for the most postseason home runs against the Cardinals?

Beltran and Babe Ruth. A goofy stat, certainly, but it’s always good to share something with Ruth.

Burrell should be toward the top of the Phillies’ lineup. His OBP is fantastic this year.

If Charlie Manuel weren’t awful at choosing players (I’ve seen him switch Victorino out of CF for defense!) the Phillies would really scare me.

    • metsftw says:

victorino’s an average CF. his FRAA is like 1. speed does not mean good defense.

      • Ceetar says:

Did you watch opening day at Shea this year? He won the game defensively.

      • Dafatone80 says:

I’m generally willing to believe stats such as FRAA, but I swear he seems to get to everything I’ve seen hit to him.

Plus, I think Werth has a better arm. Seems obvious to me which one I’d play in RF and which in CF.

Pregame post is out there now.
