Just once can I root for a team that isn't ravaged by injuries? I cannot take another year of the white trash down in Philly having bragging rights over Mets fans.

Niese will not be eligible for the post season unless he's added to the 40 man before 1 Sep. Being in the org is irrelevant. Being on the 40 man is very relevant.

Yeah -- Schneider has had some big hits. His double in Philly earlier this year was one of the biggest hits of the season.

A. Reyes is not a good hitter, but his defense is far and away better than Castillo's (this season), and I think the Mets need to concern themselves with defense up the middle. Let's see if Castillo can recover some range. If not, however, he shouldn't be playing a middle infield position.

There's not a whole lot A. Reyes has done splendidly with the bat. I'll grant you that. I think he's a much better defensive option at this stage, however. The offense has been up and down, but I think that, on balance, you want the better defensive guy. Normally, that would put Castillo over Easley, too, but not this year. I think you've got me convinced that Castillo would be a definite offensive upgrade as compared to the platoon, but I'm nervous about his range and sloppy play.

Can't be poorer than A. Reyes or Easley.

Does this mean Maine's out for the year/surgery?

It was suggested that he could either pitch through the pain, or he couldn't. DL means he couldn't..so..he's done? That sucks.

And what do Easley and Reyes give you? Those two are great Xtra base hit machines? Close and Late? Isn't the great Brian Schneider our leader in that situation? If you want to keep Reyes on the team great...he's a nice defensive replacement..nothing more. And Easley is best suited for the bench and a utility role. Can't anyone else see that but me?

Wow, I can't believe I'm going to even suggest this, but would it make sense to trade for Kevin Millwood. Wow, that sounds worse now that it cam out, but Millwood has pitched better than his record. A return to the NL may do him good.

He has less than $2M left this year and is sign for about $11M next year. It would offer the Mets a solid veteran down the stretch that would offer insurance in 2009 in case Maine is not 100%, Ollie doesn't resign or Pedro retires.

Question is: Do we do it?

The follow up then would be: Who do we trade?

The Mets won't trade Martinez, Niese, or Murphy, BUT would they be willing to part with Parnell, Kunz or Evans? Evans may be off the table, but Parnell?

Would Parnell, Carp and a lower level prospect for Millwood be too much? Probably, but I can't see the Ranger dumping him just for salary.

I might stand pat to be honest.

Yes let's see...Easley has the same BA, an OBP lower than Castillo's by 50 points and has three whopping more extra base hits than Castillo does in 35 more AB's. And Reyes with the great line of .253/.284/.286 is part of the glue that holds this team together. Yeah, those two are certainly the reason why the Mets played better while Castillo was gone...yeah..right.
