Pelf's rise is huge. When your shakiest starter suddenly becomes your most dominant starter? You can't overstate the importance -- it's like trading Jose Lima for Roy Oswalt! I put it at the top of my list of "nicest."

Most surprising? I thought Pelf might someday develop into this kind of pitcher, but not so suddenly. To me, Delgado's performance is more surprising.

I wonder how much of Pelfrey's success can be linked to Brian Schneider? Everytime I read anything about Schneider, people inevitably compliment him on his ability to handle a pitching staff. I don't have the time to look at the breakdown of Pelfrey's stats with and without Schneider behind the plate, but it would be interesting.

I still remember the date of Pelfrey's turnaround: June 11th, 2008. Pelfreys second matchup against Brandon Webb.
The first time those two matched up, Pelfrey mentioned that Webb was a lot like the pitcher he wanted to become. The second time, while Pelfrey went 8, outdueling Webb, Ron Darling mentioned that in a young pitchers career, a moment comes where they just "get it."

As usual, the SNY crew was exactly right. Pelfrey has been lights out since that moment (when not pitching against the Marlins)

BTW, that was the game where Wagner blew the save in the 9th, giving upa 3 run, game tying home run, and Beltran hit a walkoff 2 run home run in extra innings

i hate this comment disappering thing going on.
Anyway..what i was saying is i think pelfs new found success is ONE of the nicest events in the 08 season but not the best. Reason being is we all knew pelf had the talent and ability to do this but he just couldnt put it together. Now that he has finally figured it out we are seeing the results. I think the fact that the mets are (albeit with a half game lead) in first this late in the season with all the injuries this year is the nicest surprise so far.
