I just looked out the window and screamed the sky has fallen. But then I realized it 1:21AM and breathed a sigh of relief.

I’m neither pessimistic nor optimistic about this team and have no expectations one way or the other. We all know the short comings but they are only .5 games out of first. So your guess is as good as mine.

Now why can’t they score runs late in a game? If I was a pessimist I would just say they suck. If I was an optimist I would attribute it to all the great bullpens they face and just tip my cap to the other team. But perhaps the frailty of their bullpen puts added pressure on them to score late.

I told my co-worket today that even if one team sweeps the other, it's not the end of the word, too many games left to play. Sure you like to take the first game and better yet, sweep, but either way too many games left to make this series a do-or Die. Win to morrow and we are back in first by a .5 game and then the Phillies have to go to Chicago for 4.

If we just resign our selves to the fact that no team is going to run away with this thing and that it will be a dog fight to the finish, then these types of loses is all par for the course. Only thing that matters is who finishes in first place on the last day of the season (god forbid a one game playoff!! LOL ).

The Mets didn't play like crap. They didn't give the phillies anything. The phillies were playing good baseball.

yup. what are you going to do? some metsblog readers feel more comfortable predicting demise than showing optimism and faith. its easier to bitch and moan and say the sky is falling. it allows people to feel better if it happens. i am not saying that they shouldnt do it, because being a fan can be really distressing, but what can we expect? rooting for the mets can be very difficult at times.

its a tough loss, but its also only one game.

i am more interested in the marlins series than i am for this series. i am hoping for a split tomorrow, and this loss will be moot. i expect johann to pitch a big game, deep.

does anyone have any theories why the mets cant score in the late innings? is it the bench? is it managerial moves? what do you think the issue is? is it added pressure to score?

You're absolutely right. It's just ONE loss. Win tomorrow and every thing is dandy. What concerns me is how many times can this team jump out to a big lead and see it whither away into a loss? That has to take some kind of psychological toll on the player's mind set, how can it not?

Stokes pitched great but you have to try to score more runs. Manuel has seen this movie before. While a game like this should never happen he has to deal with it on almost a nightly basis. Its a real catch 22 beacause if he left Stokes in he'd be called dumb because he gave up outs. If he pinch hits for Stokes, he's an idiot because he took out a good pitcher.

Great game, the Mets played great. But the phillies played a little better. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game. Santana will have the Philly offense looking silly at the plate.
LETS GO METS!!!

I just looked up Wright’s splits this year and found that innings 7-9 he is hitting .234, .351obp, .440slugging and .791 OPS. Innings 4-6 he is hitting .323, .593obp, .583slugging and .964 OPS.
