Health: Ramon Castro has Right Quad Strain
By Matthew Cerrone - Aug 27, 2008 9:58 am

Ramon Castro left last night’s game in the fifth inning with what the team described as ‘a right quadriceps strain.’

According to SNY, Castro will travel to New York today for an MRI.

…from what i understand, Robinson Cancel will leave New Orleans for Philadelphia this morning, just to be safe…in all likelihood, cancel would have been added to the roster on September 1, regardless of castro’s injury

By the way, Castro played in just 14 games during August and September last season, and just 11 games during August and September in 2006.

He is batting .242 in 43 games this season for the Mets, while throwing out just 29 percent of runners attempting to steal a base.

one of the reasons yesterdays loss sucks more. Thats why castro cannot be the full time catcher for us. His offense is great but talk about injury prone…

LOL @ Mr. Potato Head. Genius!

  3. Danny says:

Why don’t we cut Argenis Reyes and bring up Cancel?

Why do we have such an obsession with A Reyes? He’s brutal offensively. Just brutal.

    • LETSGO says:

Tell me who isn’t offensively brutal on this team especially when it matters?

      • Danny says:

Nobody else on this team is .281 OBP and .283 SLG brutal.

      • Gina says:

We’re like 3rd in the nl in runs. As frustrating as it can be to watch them this team isn’t bad offensively.

Except A. Reyes, he is brutal. I can’t imagine there that many players that are as bad offensively with as much playing time the last month or so.

    • Ceetar says:

This is the logical choice. What’s Argenis got on this team? Dirt? It’s not like they haven’t demoted better players than him when they’ve needed to, so why keep him around?

      • Jaded1983 says:

i think they are waiting to see how castillo pans out. if he is indeed healthy, he is the obvious choice at 2b. if he isnt and his range is compromised, you use reyes as a late inning replacement.

yes you have easily but he is 38 and you cant run him out there every day

      • Dirtysanchez says:

True. The only thing i can think of is maybe his defense and an insurance policy for damin and castillo. Thats about all i could think of.

I knew it was only a matter of time before Cabeza Grande found himself a mystery ailment to take himself out of the lineup. Seems awfully coincidental that this guy seems to find an excuse every year to miss games in crunch time.

      wow

    • Gina says:

He has arthritis doesn’t he? I would think after a years worth of catching, even back up catching, a guy with health problems would start to break down near the end. It just kind of makes sense.

I would think if he dropped about 30-35 lbs., he’d be putting less strain on such important muscles. Anyone think of suggesting this to him?!
