Two long guys were stretched last night, so you pretty much HAD to bring Figgy or Vargas up

  2. Tidewater says:

Does this mean Figgy gets the Maine start?

  3. hbean says:

poor reyes has to go down to nola for all of 4 days and come back lol

    • rustyjr says:

a-rey will be on bourbon st drinking the daquri’s and collecting the beads from hot college chicks and yet i still think hed rather be up here

    • MookieTanz says:

It’s horrible that Reyes is being sent down. Castillo is worthless, and though I hate wishing injury upon someone, it’s probably better off if Luis tweaks something and spends the rest of the season rehabbing. I haven’t liked him since last year when those rumors surfaced that he was the reason Jose Reyes was hanging out late at clubs every night and playing sluggishly. Then we sign him for four years and find out that (GASP!) we’re better off without an aging slap-hitting second basemen who lost his speed due to bum knees.

  4. GravediggerHebner says:

Given the circumstances, these moves make sense to me.

  5. T-Pac says:

Oh dear! How will we manage without Argenis’ winning attitude? This could be disastrous!

  6. BlueCapsOnly says:

Called it. I know many were saying we should play short on the bench for a few days, but we all know the history with Castro’s legs. We probably won’t see him till October if we make it there.

Also, with tonight being a must win in my mind, could we really have afforded a short bench tonight?

  7. turbot72lou says:

thats not to bad as long as they do recall him. he could be a good pinch runner in the playoffs if we make, so as not to use endy to earlier and not have a top filgh defensive replacement or another pinch runner in extra innings. Does that sound like a good thing, Just asking for some feedback?

    • ATrain says:

Endy is a terrible baserunner anyway, totally agree

      • DjDeF says:

Endy has been simply terrible off the bench lately…he is flailing at pitches he looks completely lost

    • Tidewater says:

We’d have to make room for him on the post season roster somehow, no?

    • Reyes es el Rey says:

Reyes would be a good guy to have off the bench as a pinch runner and to start when Pelfrey’s pitching. We could use his defense more than Castillo/Easley and their slightly less terrible hitting.

  8. fatburrell92 says:

We’re screwed if we don’t have Castro, he was a beast.

    • rustyjr says:

castro hasn’t been hitting his weight lately by the way has anyone notices that cancel makes castro look svelte?

      • Tidewater says:

If Cancel stood still in front of a fire, firemen would attempt to attach their hoses to him.

  9. rustyjr says:

was anyone else upset when jerry but dirty sanchez in the 8th last nite?

    • turbot72lou says:

I wasn’t upset because if he put arron in everyone would have what about sanchez.

    • danlx13 says:

yea that was an extremely stupid move by manuell…he shouldve left stokes in

      • rustyjr says:

stokes can hit he did it b4

        • mrose says:

          ugh…
          hindsight is 20/20 …
seriously, you have a 7 run lead down to 2, you NEED to try to produce runs in that situation, you don’t leave stokes in

        • rustyjr says:

unfortunately we wasted a player by not letting evans hit

        • therealsince86 says:

Some one pointed it out earlier today. Why not use Castillo or A. Reyes in that spot instead of Evans or Murphy? It was to lead off the inning and one thing Castillo does do is work the count and get on base. Then you only waste 1 guy and have to good hitters for later.

  10. rustyjr says:

btw does anyone here got the sat plan??? id like to meet my met bretheren from the site u know put the faces to the names

    • guierllNO MOta says:

yeah Duaner coming in in the 8th was why the Mets lost…had nothign to with 9 innings of no offense and Pedro…and a bad throw by Easley, which as much as we all hate him…Castillo makes that throw and game is over.

Of course without Easley we actually lose 6-2 thanks to our 3-5 hitters hitting like Ben Johnson….

  11. rustyjr says:

mota im not faulting sanchez i just had a bad feeling when they put him in and it was a justified feeling

  12. Seaver41 says:

Dumb move, sending down Argenis Reyes.
I’d much rather have him than Luis Castillo, who Jerry manuel thinks so highly of that he wasn’t even used in a 13-inning game in which nearly everyone with a pulse got in the game.
Figueroa is a bum, adding to the mounting collection of bums in the bullpen. Omar Minaya is turning out to be the Fred Sanford of bullpen building — continuously piling on junk and desperately trying to find treasure among the trash.

    • Gina says:

I think we’d be better off with one of the writers here in the line-up than with Argenis Reyes.

    • cgio07 says:

so…why is manuel getting criticized for a game that happen two days ago and not getting praised for winning the next game? You guys need to relax jesus..youre not the manager for a reason

  13. guierllNO MOta says:

yeah, I think he should be DL’d I mean he’s worthless at this point…only pitcher on the team who makes Feliciano look capable….wait, strike that, neither one can get an out.

  14. guierllNO MOta says:

I keep forgetting about all the allstar bullpen guys who are avaiable on aaugust 27th…yup Minaya doesnt have a clue, ALWAYS keep a 3rd string 2B (or catcher) instead of a needed bullpen arm…hell, shouldnt even have gotten Ayala or Al Reyes either…so we can give the 2B hitting 250 in the majors.

  15. bkfitz says:

They should have sent Nick Evans to AA. Or even send Argenis to AA just so he’s closer Sept 1 when rosters expand.

  16. nyj0128 says:

It didn’t really make much sense to me why Al Reyes couldn’t have been the guy to call up. Unless Figueroa’s taking a spot start. The way how we are in such a tight pennant race I don’t think they’d risk a game by pitching Figueroa. With the day off on Thurs, Oliver Perez could just pitch on normal rest of Friday.

Argenis was really the only guy who could have been optioned. Maybe Evans, but why hold 3 SB’s? We got Endy as a pinch running option off the bench. He’ll be back up within a week. Evans has been hitting well.

I thought Al Reyes should have been called up. Figueroa’s like Stokes. A long man. You don’t need two of them. Maybe they don’t think he’s ready yet or they were reluctant to juggling around the 40 man roster.

  17. nyj0128 says:

Easley should be playing over both Castillo and Argenis. Why not? Look at the game he had yesterday. I understand they want to keep him fresh. Give Castillo and/or Reyes a start here and there. He’s shown he can hit second. They can always use Tatis or Murphy at second too.

  18. Darth Manuel says:

The curse of Luis Castillo continues…. Just when you start to believe in this team again… Keep it young… Keep it Reyes,,, and we will be in October.

  19. nyj0128 says:

I don’t agree with that article with praising Minaya. If we don’t make the playoffs, how did he do a good job? Because he fired Willie? Come on now. Results are what count. Omar’s done okay. To kiss up to him and want him here for years to come without regards for results is degrading though.

  20. nyj0128 says:

Luis definitely is a curse. Not that Omar believes in that kind of thing though. He only left steroid using Guillermo on our roster all through last year. Probably more too boost his off season value than consider the effects of the regular season. Omar has a way of giving undeserving Dominican citizens extra dollars. This isn’t a thing about Latin American’s. Luis getting 4 yr/25MM? Pedro 4 yr/53MM? Even Guillermo 2yr/5MM after knowing he used steroids? Come on. It’s like Omar’s getting a kick back. Compared to all those players, his 800K salary doesn’t look so huge.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

It’s hard to blame Luis for a loss in which he didn’t even play.

      • guierllNO MOta says:

yeah…a little far fetched…his presence mustve caused Easley to make a bad throw, Pedro to pitch like Glavine of 2005 and our 3-5 hitters to hit like my grandmother.

Once again, if Castillo is switched in for defense in the 9th the Mets win that game last night, play him a la Endy as a defensive replacement, he certainly cant provide the kind of offsense production Easley did last night…of course neither could his other 7 lineup mates combined…

  21. guierllNO MOta says:

Does David Wright this year remind anyone else of ARod from 2006 when his stats were MVP caliber but no one can remember them getting a hit when it counted?

  22. nyj0128 says:

I’m not blaming Luis. He had nothing to do with yesterday. I’m just saying adding him to a team that’s had lots of chemistry isn’t going to help. It’d be like throwing Moises Alou into the picture. Except a not as good one.

We got depth at 2B. They been giving Argenis opportunities and he’s played well. His numbers may not exactly show it, but who here would want Schneider in the line up over Castro just because his batter average is 13 points higher?

The loss had nothing to do with Luis, but we just don’t need him that much. He didn’t even play bad the other day. The only reason why he’s going to be in the line up and take Argenis’ spot for the next week is because of his ridiculous contract. It’s not about performance sadly. This is the kind of thing that makes Jerry’s philosophy of rewarding players vulnerable.

    • Gina says:

I think everyone here would rather see Castro in the line-up than Schneider. I know I definitely would.

      • cgio07 says:

how stupid is that..schneider has been hitting, hes a lefty hitter low in the linup and hes a much better defensive catcher than castro.

  23. nyj0128 says:

Damion is not a bad defensive 2B. He came across the bag all the way to the SS area to throw out a runner on a close play. He’s good enough to field his position out there. I like to see young player’s out there who give it there all. Easley’s old, but still good. I’m not saying Luis isn’t good, but his minor league rehad stats spoke for itself and waiting for the point in which he gets it going is a little bit of a burden. It’s even harder when you aren’t playing every day.

  24. nyj0128 says:

David could be coming up big in situations he haven’t. Even more so, Beltran could have. Delgado’s missed at times, but has come through a lot more than anyone of us would have expected. Of course Tatis has been a savior to this team. Jose’s been doing well. Church had a bad game last night. I know the other games weren’t so bad, but they had a good thing going.

They mixed Church and Castillo into the equation when they were in the middle of a 10 out of 11 run. These can help, but why mess with what was going on? The rotation between Evans and Murphy was working. Tatis was doing his job. All this speculation really can all be put aside if he just win the damn game tonight. I’m confident in Johan. Hopefully we get out on top early like last night and this time hold it.

  25. nyj0128 says:

    wasn’t*

  26. Darth Manuel says:

Its deja vu all over again.. The pain the pain! Last August Luis came and the team fell… No we are in the same situation again and I fear the same result with this man in the two hole. He is done!!!! The worst hitter in all of the major leagues is batting in the two hole. He couldn’t hit a homerun in the little league world series.

  27. turbot72lou says:

Everyone bashing this team should take there panties that are in a bunch and zip it. One loss last doesn’t nobody knows what there doing. Omar was horrible for signing Castillo to 4 years. but do you think that the wilpons would given out the money to beltran like they should and way over paid pedro to atleast get some creditability in franchise as being serious players in the game of baseball. A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD SOUND LIKE JEROME FROM BROOKLYN ON WFAN SPEWING THESE DUMB@#% TRADES. everyone need to calm down and just watch the game tonight and relax because its not life or death if the team has a loss tonight.

  28. VelvetFoot says:

    What’s wrong with Castro?
Is his arthritic back acting up like last season?

  29. nyj0128 says:

It’s only one game. We’ll win tonight. I’m not going to complain about games. The transactions are the things that are just pure common sense. Luis’ signing probably brought loss less credibility to not just Omar’s name, but the franchise. The Beltran contract wasn’t that bad. They should have signed Vladimir Guerrero the year before, but they didn’t think his back would hold up. With inflation, his contract’s actually come to be around market value. After this year, he’ll have 3 years left. Probably the amount of time he may only be worth having for. Pedro had a great 05′ season and first half in 06′. PArt of the reason why we got out to such a lead in 06′. Since than though, he’s declined. I can understand why they signed him though. Let’s just win tonight and get into the playoffs. It’s not as hard as some of us think. Not so easy either though. 29 games. 73 wins with 29 to go. Just like Marlon said, 92. 19-10 has been done before with thios team.
