''How do you figure this carrys the significance of 4 games''

Because for every win is a Phillies loss in this kind of game. Or same thing visa versa. The Mets or Phillies can't win if the other one does. You come into this series 1/2 up. They should have in their minds that they can win 2 games in a row. It's not like it's a 3 game set. You got your age on the mound. We were up 7-0 for god sakes. What I'm saying is we could have potentially been up 2 1/2 games, but realistically if we don't get things done tonight we could be down 1.5

Do I have to do Math for you? Positive 2.5 minus negative 1.5 = 4.0. That means there's a margin of what could be 4 games in a close NL East race in just 2 games. You can't always look at things from where you are in case you lose. We should have confidence in anticipating wins with this team. We know they won't come easy, but I'm not going to expect this team to lose.

You'er right about if it were 4. If it were a 4 game set, it would make a bigger difference. 2 is still big though. And we should have and could have been 2 1/2 up. The best case scenario is to leave Philly the same way we came in. Before the series started I said to myself that I'd be satisfied with that. Even lots of Phillies fans I know did too.

You should know why...

For over a decade, we were owned repeatedly by one team, in the most crucial moments of a season. Yes, I'm talking about the Braves... Kenny Rogers and Andruw Jones in 1999 will haunt me forever.

And now it's beginning to feel like the Phillies have picked up that mantle, to which Mets fans are justifiably sensitive.

No need to jump off the bridge. A few bright spots can be reamed from last night's game.

1. They battled for 13 innings, noone gave up!
2. Heilman showed you something last night. He proved he can pitch in the big spot. He gave a great performance, 60 pitches and pitched out of jams....pitching great in the big spot...priceless.
3. Johan is on the mound tonight!!
4. Perspective....this wasn't a bottom feeding team, this is a contender. They didn't get blown out by the Nationals...this isn't devastating like some people are making it out to be (ahem...husband!).

If you are the Mets, you get a little 'tude' in your step tonight and come out and give it to them!!

"Most of the blame should go to Pedro cause he shouldn’t have given up 2 homers in 1inning."

my criticism was based of this line which i thought was rediculous.
The most you can ask a pitcher to do is to keep you in a game or keep their team in the lead when they depart and thats what pedro did. Was his outing the best..probably not but did he do his job and i think that answer is yes. He left with his team leading. How come the offense didnt tack on...How come the bullpen couldnt secure 12 outs...Thats where you put "most" of the blame..not on a pitcher who ultimatly did his job.

Once again for all of you who say that its just one game.
The Mets have blown a lead in the 9th inning 10 times this year!

Maybe this game was entertaining on TV, but I was at CBP and it was dreadful. Does anyone remember that great shot, I think Matt referenced it, in the game vs. the Braves last week -- the game was tied, every Met was up at the fence, and the Braves were sitting around forlornly. I'm not suggesting the Mets didn't try, quite the contrary. But that's how this game felt and appeared from my (much better than I can generally afford thanks to boss's generosity) seat.

My only real gripe with Jerry here is the Duaner/Feliciano combo. I don't know how to run that kind of stat, but I swear, every time Sanchez puts one guy one, Jerry is out with the quick hook and brings up Feliciano to allow the inherited runner to score. It's infuriating.

It was also difficult to enjoy the game when I and the Mets were heckled the entire damn game even though I didn't say a word to the friendly folks behind me (except once reminding them of the age of their SP when they were screaming, "PEDRO YOU'RE OLD!!!! OVER THE HILL!!!!" I mean, seriously?). I clearly know the Shea faithful aren't angels but the CBP crowd has got to be 50% drunk frat guys, and I think CBP fuels it.

Example: on the jumbotron in the later innings, there is a film clip type feature, the same kind of lame thing we have at Shea. The scene is a bunch of frat guy characters, some guy "Larry" comes up to a podium and the characters clap. Then guy with shirt "Mets fan" comes up to podium and the other characters THROW GARBAGE ON HIM.

Shouldn't the freaking jumbotron have halfway decent sportsmanship?

I turned it off at 7-3. I knew it was coming and didn't want to witness the carnage.
