Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports the Rockies will be unable to trade LHP Brian Fuentes before the September 1 deadline.
According to Rosenthal, the Rockies had placed Fuentes on waivers on Monday, but then made another move by placing Fuentes on the bereavement list on Tuesday, essentially canceling the waiver move.
Since Fuentes was put on the bereavement list, the earliest Fuentes can come off is Friday, which according to Rosenthal, would not give the Rockies enough time to have Fuentes go through the waiver process.
This may be disappointing, but the thing is, it’s highly likely the Rockies would have dealt Fuentes anyways, as they were seeking two high-quality prospects in return and now they are only six games out in the National League West.

Bah! Who needs Fuentes when you’ve got Ricardo Rincon in the hopper.
You mean it’s highly UNLIKELY the Rockies would’ve traded Fuentes.
*shakes head*
I still don’t get how this guy throws. It just looks so weird, like he pushes the ball.
I agree, but its hard to argue with the results.
Regardless, the Mets weren’t going to get him – he wouldn’t have fallen as far as the Mets in the waiver process. There are too many teams that A) could use the bullpen help (Dodgers), or B) would block the Mets from getting him (Phillies, Marlins). And add to that the probability that the Rockies would have demanded Jon Niese and possibly more for Fuentes and it becomes clear there was no winning combination.
Too bad. He would have helped us a lot.
Agreed
We can still get him, he just wouldn’t be eligible for the postseason. But if he can get us there and not cost a high-level prospect, they have to think about it. The Sept. 1 date is just to be eligible for the postseason. Yeah, it would be great to have him for the postseason, but if he can help get us there and allow Wagner to get healthy, it’s worth the gamble.
You mean highly unlikely, Mike.
But yes, I agree with you. Their demands haven’t changed since before the trade deadline.
Dam I wanted Fuentes
