Health: Wagner Improving
By Mike Nichols - Aug 28, 2008 8:26 am

Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post reports Billy Wagner, who is rehabbing a swollen left elbow, was back at Shea Stadium yesterday playing catch.

According to Hubbuch, Wagner will be re-examined next week to determine if he needs more rest or can begin throwing off a mound.

No timetable has been set for his return.

Well before we all get too excited, as per NJ dot com Wagner is still experiencing pain in the elbow…The only reason he is throwing at all is to keep his arm from getting “stiff from to inactivity.” While swelling in the elbow is down, there is no timetable for his return, and if the pain persists when he does throw of the mound, then its bye-bye Billy for the rest of the year.

Scratch that thought. Didn’t know Fuentes was placed on the bereavement list. Oh well…

Even if he wasn’t on the bereavement list, the Phillies would have had a chance to claim him first, and would have *never* let him through to us.

Given that it was Bart Hubbach reporting, I’m surprised the headline wasn’t something about Wagner possibly needing his arm amputated, or the like.
