Read: Rollins Notices Mets’ Celebrations
By Brandon Eddy - Aug 28, 2008 12:10 pm

The Philadelphia Fun Police are at it again.

According to David Lennon and Wallace Matthews at Newsday, Jimmy Rollins made another reference to the home run celebrations by the Mets.

Rollins was quoted as saying:

“We don’t talk about celebrations, we just notice them … Nobody in particular. The whole team, you know.”

Jimmy Rollins. What a ****. He can **** my ****, that ****ing ****.

(okay, I didn’t actually have curses in mind for those ***’s, but you can fill in the blanks yourself – it’s like a Mad Libs!)

    • Stems says:

      Where was Rollins last nite?

Oh I get it.. it’s only motivation when you win and do well… when you lose you keep your mouth shut…

And someone remind Rollins hes been losing a lot to the Mets.

  2. The Slider says:

I think it’s time for our hardest thrower to put a pitch inside Jimmy Rollins ear. I’m serious.

  3. mikey_FF says:

hahahaha … that is a very accurate translation. Pretty funny!

  4. stilltheEWM says:

That is the funiest clip ever posted on metsblog.

    • Steviefan84 says:

That is the most best way to translate what Rollins or anyone else thinks of the Mets celebrations. They can all stuff it.

  5. Steviefan84 says:

Yeah Jimmy, we notice you are annoying too. Put a sock in it and focus on your own team you Jose Reyes wannabe. And take all these Philly fans that all of a sudden appeared on the Metsblogs with you or as you said, “frontrunners.”

  6. dwright5_godsend says:

This is just Jimmy Rollins talking through his teeth………

  7. toomanyuniforms says:

“We don’t talk about sore losers, we just notice them. . . .”

    • dwright5_godsend says:

“We don’t talk about players showing up an hour late for a big division rivalry game, we just notice them.”

  8. CitizenSnips says:

I hope he gets “stuck in traffic” again when they come to Shea.

  9. gomets6091 says:

and that Philly fan last night wondered why we hate Jimmy Rollins? Can he be a bigger bitch? This guy makes ARod look like a man…

  10. NYMSage says:

Has anyone else noticed this season how selfish Jimmy Rollins is on the field… I would never want a guy like that on my team. He is no Jose Reyes and he is also no MVP.

  11. helicopter ben johnson says:

is this from today? or a rehash of his quotes from the 1st game

  12. ToastyJoe says:

Did anyone else notice Ryan Howard standing and admiring his home run last night at home plate? Ironic, no?

  13. Dirtysanchez says:

    aww we hurt rollins feelings…..

  14. atrain311 says:

Lol! I had a great idea what the translation was going to be before I even clicked the button, but STILL laughed out loud when I heard the file play. Well played, sir. Well played.

  15. Nightlife says:

God forbid guys celebrating while playing a competitive BASEBALL GAME.

  16. NJMike says:

Bite me Rollins…what are we supposed to do walk back to the dugout like a robot!

I did not see an excessive celebrations yesterday, he’s just stirring up trouble because he knows it riles up the Phillies.

  17. Hey Rollins: don’t see you complain everytime shane victorino pees his pants after an extra-base hit.
This ani’t the same team as last year. We got santana, murphy, a healthy delgado and most importantly no willie or billy

  18. Steviefan84 says:

This is another way to translate what Jimmy Rollins said:

“We don’t talk about celebrations, we just notice them

Translation: Boy how I wish I was Jose Reyes, he is young, fast, strong and not hated by his own teams fans.

… Nobody in particular. The whole team, you know.”

Translation: I wish we had Delgado celebrating for us and boy, I would give my left kidney for a Johan Santana but too bad we play in a bandbox that are full of frontrunners even though I stunk it up.

  19. cb32 says:

Did he notice the celebrations for Bruntlett? Not only in the 13th the night before but in the 9th? Do those not qualify as celebrations?

Also, I have to say, there are too many people saying Howard’s home run would not have been a home run. Yes it would have. Shea is 338 down the line. He hit it right down the line and definitely 338. He actually hit it further than Delgado did.

    • Gasface77 says:

The Delgado home run nixes the Howard home run so it’s even, however, I don’t think either would have been home runs at Shea. The wind current is completely different and the flags were blowing out to left field.

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

not to mention both were curving towards the line and couldve curved foul at the last second.

    • backinbusiness says:

It does tick me off that if the place is such a “bandbox” (which it is), how come WE can’t get more runs there?

      • dwright5_godsend says:

dude, we scored 7 tuesday and lost.

        • backinbusiness says:

sorry i meant more HOME runs. my bad.

        • dwright5_godsend says:

we probably would if we didnt have so many ground ball-line drive hitters. Reyes, Castillo, Beltran, Church, and Wright (most of the time) do exactly that. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes its bad. But when you play at Shea stadium, it’s better to have those kinds of hitters instead of the Howards, Burrells, and Werths who just get under it and hope it flies out.

        • NYMSage says:

The Phillies have a predominantly groundball pitching staff. That’s how they built themselves for their home park. Pretty smart, but that’s why they would tend to hit more homeruns there than their opposition. The Mets on the other hand, have a predominantly flyball pitching staff, which makes playing in Philly that much more difficult.

        • backinbusiness says:

          makes sense; good explanation

        • BIGpelfcyyoung says:

the reason we don’t hit more home runs is because we are trying to hit them. we kept pulling off the ball (wright especially) and popping everything up. if we played there for 81 games though, we would 3 guys with 40+ HRs easy and reyes would have 30+

    • ravi3 says:

AHHH! Its not the distance of the fence!!! Its the jet streams that allow the ball to travel farther, like the thin air in Coors Field!

      • backinbusiness says:

Anyone that wants to really experience this should try sitting in the upper deck, upper rows over center field. It’s ridiculous. Your hat nearly falls off.

      • cb32 says:

ok, well that is fair but most people reference it as a bandbox because of its dimensions, not the wind patterns.

        • gomets6091 says:

The funny thing about the windstreams is that the morons who built the stadium designed it to be more of a pitchers park, based on wind patterns…unfortunately, they measured those wind patterns while Veterans Stadium was still standing, and didn’t take that huge structure blocking the wind into account. Only in Philadelphia…

      • cousinrk says:

WAH WAH WAH!! We won zero playoff games last year why aren’t we getting the respect we deserve for all we accomplished. WAH WAH WAH!!

Its nice to know Jimmy Rollins is an equal opportunity jerk. He pisses off his own fans, fans of other teams. You’d think this clown has won all these titles before. Talk about one MVP going to your head.

  20. Kevin N says:

Jimmy Rollins needs to shut up. He is having a miserable year considering he was the MVP last season. The Phillies have not won a series from the Mets all season. He really should just keep his mouth shut.

  21. I swear I physically hate that guy… when I see or hear him I get physically angry… my skin crawls and I want bad things to happen to him. I’d love to see Pelfrey plant a 97 mph heater in his teeth.

I’m not a hateful person, but Jimmy Rollins makes me so freaking mad. I would literally push him off of a building and deal with whatever consequences.

Overboard? Yeah, but that’s what he does to me. All the more reason to hate him :-)

    • losmets5 says:

If he got it in his teeth no harm would be done. It’d probably get throught the gap. And since his mouth is so big…

  22. Darth Manuel says:

this is such a smoke screen!!! Jimmy was getting hammered by Philly fans for the past 2 months and figures this is a good way to change the subject. Last time I checked the Victorino was taunting the Mets entire bench.. Whats worse? Starring into the Mets bench and acting a fool or a two second homerun celebration in the dugout. Its time JRoll hits the deck..

He’s grasping onto last years Phillies mentality in order to desperately get himself and his team into September baseball…

  23. pezao says:

I’ve been trying to help Mr Rollins out, but I just can’t find the phone # for the WAAAAAAAAAmbulance. Anybody?

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i believe the number is 9-waa-waa.

      • dwright5_godsend says:

here’s what I think rollins was really trying to say:

“man, I cant understand a word those hispanic mother f***ers are saying over there. they should all be forced to speak english. and maybe if the signs in NYC weren’t in spanish I wouldn’t have been late to that game at shea either.”

  24. Simpsonsfan421 says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Well played, Brandon.

  25. patrick says:

    15 games…

    Mets 10

    Phils 5

Keep crowing that includes an extreme gift in the Johan should have been win at Shea.

  26. patrick says:

Oh, by the way, 9 games in Philly

    Mets 6

    Phillies 3

    way to defend home turf.

  27. mouserdz says:

Anyone go to the Butterfield 8 event last night? Curious how it turned out. A yankee of friend who stumbled into said it was pretty crazy, but she was like ‘Get met the F out of here!’

    • BIGpelfcyyoung says:

I heard it was awesome, they doing another one there for the sat Sept 6th game so if you going to the game head over to the bar to watch the mets win

  28. PAPDOG67 says:

CB32, do me a favor and go watch a game in CBP, The wind is constanly blowing out because of the design of the stadium, whereas, because of Shea being and open-ended stadium, the wind is blowing in from the OF 90% of the time. I was at the game Monday night and sat in the last row of the picninc area and could not believe the force of the wind blowing into the stadium. That is why a lot of balls hit to LF at Shea simply die.

    • cb32 says:

ok, that is fair. As I say above, most people who reference bandbox talk about the dimensions, not the wind patterns. I will agree the wind makes the place even smaller.

  29. dave27 says:

Fox has officially crossed Rollins off its playoff viewership list….seeing as how he doesn’t like watching the Mets celebrate.

  30. repeal the DH says:

How sad! Another extremely talented and exciting professional athlete who makes it so hard for sports fans to like him and enjoy his talent. If I were a Phillies fan, I’d have a hard time liking him. Why can’t these crybaby types just grow up, shut their big mouths and play ball?

    • dwright5_godsend says:

even in rollins does shut his mouth, he can still speak. ever noticed that 2 inch gap in his front teeth?

    • Steviefan84 says:

Jimmy Rollins wouldn’t make a good peacemaker, he’d anger both sides and have them both want to throw him overboard.

      • gomets6091 says:

yea, but at least they’d all have something in common….kinda like how Mets fans and Phillies fans both hate him now

  31. teufelshuffle86 says:

This coming from a guy who points to the sky every time he gets on base.

    • Steviefan84 says:

He probably thinks the sky talks to him since he can’t make friends with actual humans.

  32. swirlywand says:

I think anytime ANY TEAM hits a homerun- is a time to celebrate…I am SURE that Rollins and Howard BOTH DID NOT just put their heads down and walk quietly in to their dugout when they hit there homeruns. I didn’t see Carlos taunt the Phillies or their dugout- even if he did just rock it out in THE METS DUGOUT…
Let Tatis and Reyes do all they want once they step or side step on to homeplate…we love them because they get excited.
The only worry I have is that IF enough sourpuss players talk about it like it is an issue (like the marlins did at the end last year)…then that starts to become the focus of the media..and it becomes a GREAT reason to beat the METs…extra motivation…when the METS don’t do anymore than act like excited players…
The main difference between Jimmy Rollins and the METS on their respective losing nights- is that the METS, take responsibility…they are hard on themselves…they know it is on their back…they don’t talk sh*t about the Phillies players… Yet, the phillies are crybabies…and I would take the mets character and heart over theirs.

  33. irishchris87 says:

One of the MetsBlog guys should just make a thread titled “The Roast of Jimmy Rollins” and just let us have at it.

    • Steviefan84 says:

That would break the post count from two days ago in the game thread. We could make 1,500 posts easily. lol

  34. losmets5 says:

    HAHAHAHAHA

  35. No_Brain_Willie says:

“we don’t talk about it, just notice it”.

So Jimmy has talked about it to the media the past 3 nights.

    • Steviefan84 says:

Problem with Rollins is no one talked to him when he was younger so he is letting it all out now. Maybe he should go call A-Rod’s ex-wife, I heard she’s available.

  36. racemccloud says:

The Mets are very deeply into the Phillie’s heads right now, and this is the clearest sign. They’re seeing “celebrations” that just aren’t there. Every game, somebody on the Phils has something to say about the Met “celebrations”. The last two years, you could argue there was too much celebrating/dancing in the Met dugout. Now, the Mets are far more reserved and seem focused on getting down to business. They “celebrate” no more than any other team in baseball, including the Phils. You don’t see any Met standing and watching their homeruns like Howard. Oh, and Rollins… when you’re having an MVP season, you can talk. When you stink, you should shut up. This year? You stink.

  37. Gland says:

Bottom line is that Jimmy Rollins is a good player, but his constant whining (first the Philly fans, now the Mets celebrations) makes him look like a jack a$$.

Personally, I believe that he’s probably jealous that some of the other NL shortstops get for their abilities and that’s why he a) turns it on more in when Reyes is around and b) ends up talking crap when people talk about his down year and how great Reyes and Hanley Ramirez are.

    • Danny says:

How could Rollins ever possibly complain about attention? The guy won the fracking MVP last year because the media overrated his contribution so much.

  38. PhillyMet says:

From local Philly paper the other day:

….sources say that on a recent visit to Paddy Whack’s (2nd & South), the Phillies slugger, who’s earning $10 million this year, showed up wearing a $15,000 watch, drank $24 worth of beers and left no tip.

    • racemccloud says:

If this is true… (IF)… what a lowlife. I tip, you tip, we ALL tip. And a guy making $10 mil can’t tip? Hopefully it’s not true. That hypothetical guy, hypothetically speaking, would be a hypothetical scumbag.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

      shocker

    • PhillyMet says:

The story is on Philly.com, look for a story by Dan Gross: “A tip about Ryan Howard”

  39. Joe Bacci says:

“Tell Jimmy Rollins, we’re the team to beat.” – Carlos Beltran

  40. cousinrk says:

WAH WAH WAH!! We won zero playoff games last year why aren’t we getting the respect we deserve for all we accomplished. WAH WAH WAH!!

Its nice to know Jimmy Rollins is an equal opportunity jerk. He pisses off his own fans, fans of other teams. You’d think this clown has won all these titles before. Talk about one MVP going to your head..

  41. pimcnj says:

Anyone notice Ryan Howard actually SKIP the last few feet of his HR trot to touch home plate? Just saying… looks like some elementary form of revenge.

Skip all you want, Ryan, we all know you’ve watched your HR’s from the batter’s box for years.

  42. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

Rollins is mad because he will be watching the Mets in playoffs from his couch

    • gomets6091 says:

well, to be fair, the Mets tried to watch Rollins in the playoffs last year, but they couldn’t get to the remote in time

  43. Furioso says:

How can Rollins notice celebrations when he’s late to the park?

  44. kickingmule says:

So if I get this right, playing for first place at the end of August doesn’t motivate Jimmy Rollins or his team, but how a steps on home plate after a home run does. Heck, playing for first place in July doesn’t motiviate Rollins to get out of bed on time, but this does. Tells you alot about Jimmy Rollins.

  45. Tha Prowler says:

i’m still surprised these two teams haven’t had a brawl yet…until then i won’t consider the willies & mets a rivalry. those idiots don’t deserve it. but then again i don’t think we ever fought w/ tha braves either all those years…someone refresh my memory.
