is it just me or is this at the same time as the Phillies/Mets game on that Sunday? Would love to go, but that game is gonna be needed!

patrick August 29, 2008 at 10:32 am

Yes when this event was scheduled ESPN had not decided yet this game was cool.

khmustache August 29, 2008 at 10:37 am

sweet…maybe we could get sarge to simulecast on both networks! he’s so interesting and fun to listen to!

molder August 29, 2008 at 10:39 am

Why would this be during such an epic baseball game?

JefJarrett August 29, 2008 at 10:41 am

So I hate getting the Phillies feed during games, because I find their announcers sooooooo frigging annoying.

Theres the one guy w/ the annoying voice with the HR calls

ittttsss ouTTTTAAAAAA HHHEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRE

and the other guy just screams YES!!! Wtf is that?

Altho I do listening to them when the Phils blow a lead, like on Wednesday and again last night…..they sound like their dog just got run over….it’s amazing.

patrick August 29, 2008 at 10:45 am

the highlights on mlb.com are priceless, you would have thought Delgado and Murphy killed the mayor of Philly and then knocked down the Rocky Statue.

JefJarrett August 29, 2008 at 10:49 am

lol

The grand slam last night to put the cubbies ahead was fantastic…….just silence in the booth.

The absolute best was a game a week or so ago, when the Phils were rallying……Utley lined one in the gap and the guy is screaming “LINE DRRRIIIIIIVE IN THE GAAAAAAAAAP” and the outfielder made a diving stab and then doubled Victorino off of first to end the game. It took them about 10 secs to realize the game was over…..then it was all downhill from there. I was laughing so hard….

MeesesGlokmah August 29, 2008 at 10:53 am

I also hate those Phillies sportscasters. Especially the main guy (don’t know his name) who sounds like he is groaning because someone woke him up everytime he has to talk. At least, that’s how he sounds to me.

I loved how ESPN used the Mets feed when showing the highlights for Wednesday’s game. The other guy would have put ESPN viewers to sleep.

Zoe August 29, 2008 at 10:55 am

If I weren’t going to the game I’d love to see this. Boo on ESPN.

drtmuir August 29, 2008 at 11:03 am

I have game time as 1:10 PM– I’m going. Shoot!

mrose August 29, 2008 at 11:15 am

was this a joke?

patrick August 29, 2008 at 12:39 pm

no game time was originally 110

foul bunt strikeout August 29, 2008 at 11:07 am

ESPN BLOWS!

Oh and with the phillies trading for matt stairs, they def have the most guys on a team contain ing the following:

goatee and or neck beard
big gut
shaved head
described as a “professional hitter”

their roll call is (have at least one of those qualities):

lidge
eyre
myers
bruntlett
condrey
werth
genkins

Nightlife August 29, 2008 at 11:21 am

Matt Stairs?

Hahahahahahahahaahahahhahahaha

PhillyMet August 29, 2008 at 11:34 am

What’s funny about the Phillies booth is that Harry Kalas is really a Phillie legend but is way, way past his prime. The team doesn;t want to play bad guy and let him go, at least not yet.

During the Met game on Tuesday, he was saying we were the Dodgers. Kalas also works a lot with NFL Films, but again, his best days are outtttaaa here!

Kalas and Chris Wheeler do NOT like each other…Wheels used to work for the Phillie Promotion Dept before joining the booth.

Apparently their feud started when Wheeler apparently told Kalas’ wife about his escapades on road trips, and Wheeler also tried to get Kalas’ former sidekick Richie Ashburn removed from the booth several years ago.

patrick August 29, 2008 at 12:11 pm

nobody disputing Kalas is a legendary voice, but listening to it when they lose is funny

randala28 August 29, 2008 at 12:16 pm

I hate ESPN. Bought tickets to Y thinking it would be fun to see Mets/Phillies at Shea and going to Y as a nightcap.
Also – Steve Phillips rambled on about the Mets not hitting late and bullpen blowing saves after Tuesday’s night loss against Phillies. Shocking – he had NOTHING to say yesterday after MEts comeback. He’s a waste.

patrick August 29, 2008 at 12:26 pm

Good to see the Phillies are selling playoff tickets.

mrose August 29, 2008 at 12:30 pm

oh yea?

patrick August 29, 2008 at 12:34 pm

go to phillies.com smack on the home page season ticket holders are being offered purchase.

JefJarrett August 29, 2008 at 12:49 pm

They kinda have to……..I’m shocked I haven’t gotten my letter from the Mets yet.

Theres only so much time to get tickets out to everyone……I know they’re holding out based on last season, but I would say sometime in the next week we should hear something.

patrick August 29, 2008 at 1:00 pm

I understand that, but there is a difference in communicating to your season ticket holders via a mailing and posting it on your team website as if it is a forgone conclusion.

Phillies phans, you phost season has come.

Flushing_is_Burning August 29, 2008 at 12:43 pm

calm down… so are the Mets. MLB marketing

patrick August 29, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Uh yeah, I am pretty calm by the way, and the Mets are not, and it is not MLB marketing. Just because MLB has networked the team sites does not mean that the individual teams do not pursue their own channels of promotion.

The Phillies are selling and marketing and have set a deadline of 9/12 for current season ticket holders to commit to all 10 potential playoff games.

Yes of course they get the money back or roll it toward 2009 deposit for seasons but they are doing it nevertheless.

Not even the Angels are being so overt. They are offering signup for single game lottery entry, but that is just the lottery entry.

patrick August 29, 2008 at 1:01 pm

bottomline it is bad karma to chirp at a crowded bird feeder.

boozermetsfan August 29, 2008 at 1:04 pm

Did anyone else wonder what Jimmy Rollins thought of the Aramis Ramirez celebration immediately after hitting the GS to beat the Phils? Was he watching?

gameball August 29, 2008 at 1:40 pm

He wasn’t talking about it, he wasn’t saying anything, but he was watching.

Tidewater August 29, 2008 at 1:12 pm

On another topic: why haven’t we had a post in three hours? The Phils got Matt Stairs. No post on that? It seems to me that ever since the Geico thing went down, we’re getting fewer posts, and especially from Matt.

I know it’s a blog and up to him when and what to post, but I for one have become accustomed to a more informative site.

Ryn05 August 29, 2008 at 1:18 pm

It’s a trend that seems to be gaining steam.

mrose August 29, 2008 at 1:19 pm

i think you are looking too deep into it
matt stairs isn’t exactly an earth shattering acquisition and from what I remember, we don’t get the other team’s acquisitions unless it directly impacts us

Tidewater August 29, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Well, for one the Stairs thing is just the most recent example. I would disagree with you, however that we only get news of player swaps when they directly affect us. I would also argue that a move by the closest division rival is relevant to the Mets.

Generally, though, it seems there are fewer, more sporadic postings of late.
