  3. khmustache says:

    those marlins unis are hideous

  4. khmustache says:

    slappy!

  5. rM teM says:

    OK

  6. khmustache says:

    WRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. EV says:

    D WRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Goodbye !!
David Wright. And we score again in the 1st.
    Woo-Hoo!

(Wonder if that wind is blowing in or out?)

  9. MetsFan1976 says:

I certainly won’t complain if Luis (who I had wanted on the DL until September 1st) keeps hitting like he has in his last 2 ABs (though he still should be hitting 8th).

Woo-hoo! D-Wright with the 2-run bomb and we strike first again!

  10. DavidDog says:

wow this scoring in the 1st is getting truly ridiculous

    • chico says:

yeah i know, i sure wish they would stop it (sarcasm)

    • kevinz says:

That’s 6 games in a row now. And 11 out of their last 12 I think. Incredible. If only they had the same success for their 9th innings.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Or *anything* after the third inning, frankly–particularly the 7th through 9th innings!

Oh, geez! I praised him too soon. Luis strikes out looking in *two* straight at-bats. [shaking head in disbelief] Luis, Luis, Luis…

Coulda really used an insurance run!

  11. JoseReyesForPresident says:

DAVIDDDD SHOW THE PHILS THEY AINT GAINING CRAP!!!

  12. khmustache says:

i know this was mentioned on the other feed, but did anybody else see that romero dance in the fillies game today? wonder if the reigning mvp noticed…

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yes, it was mentioned and yeah I saw it. Betcha they’ll be no mention of it…..Like to see him try that at Shea next weekend.

    • hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

yea he danced around precisely like someone who had never been there before. I’m sure JRoll will give him a talking to.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I think you said it right on the other thread, kh…Rollins probably thinks Romero celebrated maturely, unlike the “immature” Reyes. :)

    • Gary Busey says:

i was listening to the phillies announcers on the radio give him props for “beating his chest” for a job well done. it made me imagine tarzan

      • MetsFan1976 says:

In case you didn’t see it, it was more like that Olympic sprinter from Jamaica (last name Bolt–don’t remember his first name), as he cruised towards victory and a world record in the 100m dash. Just a closed left fist, pounding on his right pec a couple of times, as he screamed who knows what. Or like NBA players often do when they score a big basket in traffic, while getting pounded by the defense.

  13. hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

    another unclutch first inning homer

  14. BlueCapsOnly says:

Even though I strongly dislike him, nothing would be better than Luis making me eat crow…and clutch hit DW!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I don’t know…..he’s a gold glover and a career 300 hitter. I’m willing to see what he can do for the Mets if he stays healthy.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

I’d rather not have Luis at 2B, but I don’t know that there are any other options. Sure, Orlando Hudson will be a free agent, but this is the second year in a row that he missed the last several weeks of the season with a season-ending injury. We’ve experienced that kind of a blow with our pitchers…do we really want to invite that sort of potential problem, knowing about it in advance? There probably are better options, but with Luis’ contract, I’m betting the Mets won’t be looking at any of them.

Way to go, Big Pelf! Way to pick up Murphy!

  15. MetsFan4Decades says:

wow – BP getting lean with this aches and pains these guys have. 1 Sept can’t come soon enough.

  16. EV says:

Our bullpen is short handed tonight, ugh.

  17. rM teM says:

    oops

  18. khmustache says:

    yuck…evens out last nights play

  19. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Crap. What happened there, Murph?
That’s O.K. Big Pelf getting the 3rd out there.

  20. rM teM says:

    that’s not an error!? Jeez

    • MetsFan1976 says:

They never call plays like that, where the fielder doesn’t come anywhere near the ball, errors.

I’ve never understood that. Errors are always at the discretion of the official scorer, anyway, so why can’t they just use their discretion and call plays like that errors? (As long as Pelf doesn’t pitch a 1-hitter, with that being the only hit, that won’t be an issue, though.)

  21. khmustache says:

    whew

  22. Dafatone80 says:

Who are we missing from the pen?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Schoe strained his back yesterday. Duaner hurt is knee the other day. Ayala not available due to the 9th last night.

      • Dafatone80 says:

        Well, damn.

Any word on how serious those are?

I mean, Scho and Duaner haven’t exactly been fantastic, but they’ve been more or less as good as everyone else. Scho’s actually been one of my favorites in the pen this year, now that I’ve lost all faith in Feliciano.

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, they really didn’t say. Oh, and they said Ayala strained his groin on the first batter last night as well.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Show is definitely the best lefty option in the pen right now (and until–if and when–Wagner returns healthy). Feliciano has had his moments, but has been shockingly inconsistent. He can be absolutely lights out, making lefties, in particular, look stupid. But then, much more often of late, he comes in and implodes. And in the situations he comes in to pitch, there is rarely–if ever–any room for error, so his implosions are usually *very* damaging.

    • khmustache says:

sho and ayala for sure…they mentioned something about heilman but i missed it

  23. EV says:

    Way too close.

  24. EV says:

    Big Pelf!!!!!!!!

  25. rM teM says:

it should be like in little league….you throw the bat–you’re out

    • khmustache says:

that old lady shoulda caught it…the marlins should send her down to their AA team to work on it

  26. MetsFan4Decades says:

    That hurt.

  27. rM teM says:

    crybaby

  28. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Fight! Fight!
    What with Ross here?
Good to see Pelfrey not backing down.

  29. khmustache says:

    ross is a b****

  30. rM teM says:

it’s like deja vu all over again

  31. MetsFan1976 says:

Oh, geez! What is it with these punk Marlins, starting a benches-clearing brawl, yet again when it makes no sense.

  32. EV says:

Marlins are a bunch of CRYBABIES!!!!!!

  33. MetsFan1976 says:

Heh-heh. Keith just suggested Riss was a wus because he didn’t really do anything until the benches cleared and he had all sorts of people in front of him.

  34. MetsFan4Decades says:

Ross still won’t shut up. This game ought to be interesting…

  35. Gary Busey says:

cody ross looks 12 years old

    • MetsFan1976 says:

He sure *acts* 12 years old!

Uh-oh! Bases load for Uggla, who has some *serious* redeeming to do!

      C’mon Big Pelf!

  36. Dafatone80 says:

Haha. The Marlins announcer is whining about how he doesn’t like to see opposing starting pitchers come out when benches clear.

“Oliver Perez, you had your chance last night.”

Maybe if Cody Ross learned to move out of the way of the ball, he wouldn’t get hit.

Remember, the rule ISN’T that you can’t lean into it.

The rule is that you MUST make an effort to get out of the way.

Umpires never call that. But that’s the rule.

    • khmustache says:

meanwhile arthur rhodes comes all the way from the bullpen and has to have hanley subdue him…marlins announcers suck

SUCK IT ROSS YOU PICKED OFF LITTLE DOOZER!!!!!

(fraggle rock builder guys in case you didn’t know)

  37. rM teM says:

    hit the next guy

  38. The Mets Will Kill Me says:

haha.. Like Keith said, its just pure frustration.

  39. khmustache says:

sweet! somebody else to hate in the division!

    larry
    jimmy
    cody

i need to start scouting the nats now

  40. The Mets Will Kill Me says:

I like how Pelf didnt back down.. Wouldnt have thought that.

    • Gary Busey says:

would you back down if someone a foot shorter than you was just pouting at you?

      • The Mets Will Kill Me says:

Not to come off like Scarface, but it shouldnt matter how big the dude is.. Besides pride, just for the fact that millions of people are seeing this, you shouldnt back down..

  41. metsfan42793 says:

    GOOD JOB PELF

  42. rM teM says:

    ha ha

  43. anonymii says:

    HAHA

  44. Dafatone80 says:

    HAHAHA!

  45. EV says:

    Take that Ross, you crybaby.

  46. Tha Prowler says:

    take that b#tch

  47. metsfan42793 says:

    hit em then pick em

  48. MetsFan1976 says:

HA! Take that, ya whiny bitch!

  49. Ryn05 says:

This game is going to be good.

  50. fatburrell92 says:

    Pelfrey pwned Ross!

  51. kbh218 says:

I don’t know what Pedro was signaling to Hanley Ramirez from the dugout but it looked hilarious.

  52. BlueCapsOnly says:

i was wondering why everyone was saying haha, and the it happened…HAHA

    mlb.tv is a little slow

  53. lewchr says:

The Florida announcers said that the league should look into Pedro being out there without his uniform top on. God they suck

  54. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice, Jose !

  55. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

nice, Im sure someone will bring this up as an example of how the mets are a bunch of arrogant showoffs and everyone hates us. when in fact its just a case of a whiny little dbag that is angry that his statistical anomaly of a team is finally coming down to earth.

  56. khmustache says:

    trips!!!!

  57. lewchr says:

nothing prettier than a triple by Jose!!!!

  58. BlueCapsOnly says:

the delay on mlb.tv is ridiculous today, its a good minute+ behind

  59. khmustache says:

THAT’S WHY THEY CALL HIM DAN UGGLA!!!!

  60. EV says:

    Yea Slappy!!!!

  61. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yes, Luis slaps it right on by Ugla……

  62. JoseReyesForPresident says:

    DAVID WRIGHT REMIX!!!!

  63. MetsFan1976 says:

That a boy, Luis! Make me eat my words!

Of course, he still hit the ball extremely weakly, and probably only got good results because the infield was in and Uggla is “defensively challenged,” as the Mets’ announcers like to say. Still, the situation was what it was, and he did what he needed to do. He could have easily kept the bat on his shoulder and struck out looking, like he did so often earlier in the season.

  64. danlx13 says:

nolascos got a pretty sick curve

  65. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

castillo is limping around 1st base and trotted back very gingerly after wrights fly out. go figure.

  66. khmustache says:

    I LOVE YOU DAN UGGLA!!!!!!!!!

  67. kbh218 says:

    Nice job Uggla.

  68. MetsFan4Decades says:

wow, Uggla just can’t make any play out there.

    • khmustache says:

no kidding…it reminds me of chuck knoblauch or rik ankiel (when he was pitching)…it’s gotta be in his head now

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

They should make him a catcher, he’s build like one

      • Ryn05 says:

You don’t just “make” people a catcher.

It’s the hardest position in the game to play.

        • khmustache says:

actually a lot of players are converted to catchers in the minors (geovany soto, brian mccann, and russell martin were all former infielders)…they look for decent hitters with okay speed and a head for the game

  69. Ball4 says:

Is it me, or did Castillo look a little gimpy on the bases just now?

    • professor met says:

I’ve never seen him look like he’s not in pain.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

He’s got that whole Willis Reed, Mickey Rivers, and Cliff Floyd thing going. Always looks gimpy except, perhaps, when he is really running full blast.

  70. khmustache says:

    strong inning pelf

  71. EV says:

    Yea Big Pelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  72. professor met says:

Keith comment of the night (so far): Not everyone in the midwest is stupid and not everyone in new york is an intellectual. (something like that)

  73. VenturaHighway says:

I tell you what, having a ground ball pitcher on the mound in this weather is a huge advantage…imagine Murphy having to track down fly balls in the wind with a guy like Maine on the mound. Go Pelf!

  74. khmustache says:

    nice hittin kid

  75. khmustache says:

    wow, dead to rights there

  76. EV says:

    Shoot.

  77. rM teM says:

Murphy not having his best game….it’s like running in sand
the way the infield is so wet.

  78. BlueCapsOnly says:

wtf, we had the pitcher cleared there…

  79. khmustache says:

    thanks mr fat fan!

  80. rM teM says:

what was gary talking about? The good ship lollipop?
    what?

  81. khmustache says:

cody ross is very dumb…it’s raining and he’s a power pitcher…he needs to calm down

  82. rM teM says:

somebody’s gonna get it at the bottom half of the inning.
    gauranteeeeeeed

  83. JoseReyesForPresident says:

Bring Mr. Ross Here so i can beat the marlin outta him geez very unproffesional

  84. rM teM says:

    roid rage

  85. khmustache says:

    big out there…one more pelf

  86. khmustache says:

    nice inning pelf!!!

  87. EV says:

    Yea Big Pelf!!!!!

  88. rM teM says:

bet you a beer someone gets hit

  89. rM teM says:

didn’t realize top of the order up

  90. khmustache says:

    sit down punk

  91. EV says:

    Take that crybaby Ross.

  92. khmustache says:

    cruise control pelf…nice

  93. EV says:

    Yea Big Pelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  94. MetsFan4Decades says:

Poster on beerleaguer tonight regarding Romero’s chest pumping:

‘The Phillies have been very dignified in their celebrations this year.’

    Yeah, whatever…..

    • khmustache says:

what an idiotic statement (by the filly fan i mean). honestly i don’t get the hatred for reyes over there. victorino grandstands and calls out the opposing team, rollins goes through the media to call out the other team, you could paint a picture of howard as he watches his homeruns and now romero makes joba chamberlan look cool and dignified. maybe it’s a good thing though, the 86 mets were probably the most hated team in the history of the game…and we all know how that ended up

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – You know it’s just jealousy. They just can’t stand any Met getting the better of them.

Just finished a book called the ‘500 Club’. A little biography of all players who hit 500 HRs or better. At the end of every chapter, some of the greats of the game gave a comment on the player the chapter was about. When it came to Mike Schmidt, several said he could do no right in Philly, the fans booed him for 10 years. 2 players said the Philly fans would boo the pope.

  95. EV says:

That was dignified lol., if that was not taunting I don’t know what was. That was even worse than what Joba did.

  96. Airfeet says:

Can Pelfrey throw 3 straight Complete Games

  97. rM teM says:

Looked like something from the NBA.

  98. rM teM says:

    pull the plug

  99. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, Mike. Get this 3rd out.

  100. gdfther412 says:

    is he missing by much?

  101. khmustache says:

    one more strike pelf…one more

  102. gdfther412 says:

    one more kid..

  103. khmustache says:

    damn

  104. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Damn.

  105. el_giacomo says:

    damn damn damn

  106. MetsFan4Decades says:

You gotta get Ross out here.

  107. Nightlife says:

    Marlins “fans” are so pathetic.

  108. EV says:

    Good job Pelf.

  109. khmustache says:

    ugly inning there

  110. MetsFan1976 says:

Well, it sucks that the Fish got 2 back, but I’m awfully glad the big baby didn’t come through there.

  111. Nightlife says:

    Nice job Big Pelf.

  112. MetsFan4Decades says:

Good battle there. Need to tack on runs now.

  113. Nightlife says:

    6 innings 2 ER, I’ll take it.

    Great job, Mike.

  114. EV says:

Can we please get a couple of tack on runs.

  115. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Almost, Mike.

  116. khmustache says:

wow…pelf hits it hard, uggla makes a play and keith was dead wrong…careful, world might end tonight

  117. EV says:

    Come on Slappy, damn.

  118. khmustache says:

    could use a dp here

  119. MetsFan1976 says:

Oh no! Please be the good, effective Feliciano tonight!

  120. MetsFan1976 says:

Oh no! Please be the good, effective Feliciano tonight!

  121. EV says:

Oh man we are into the dreaded bullpen.

  122. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Here we go…..

  123. danlx13 says:

    AHHH

  124. khmustache says:

ugh….so who’s next?…crap…cmon dirty break out of the funk

  125. danlx13 says:

A Reyes would have had that…o god here comes our worst reliever

  126. EV says:

Feliciano sucks, your 0-2 ever heard of wasting a pitch.

  127. hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

0-2 hits may enrage me more than anything else. well, after lead off walks

  128. EV says:

Why don’t they bring up Al Reyes already, can’t be worst than the bums we already have here.

  129. MetsFan1976 says:

    OH NO!!! Where’s Joe Smith?!?!

    • danlx13 says:

NO KIDDING THIS IS SMITHS JOB

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Maybe Jerry would rather see Duaner pitch to one batter, then Smith for the 8th?

      • MetsFan1976 says:

I would’ve rather seen Smith the entire time, but certainly for the 8th, once Duaner got out of the 7th. Still, while I didn’t see Duaner getting out of the 8th unscathed, I can’t say I saw Jacobs’ homer coming.

  130. khmustache says:

i don’t like seeing cantu up right now…the guy is pesky

  131. khmustache says:

    HUGE K!!!

    nice dirty!

  132. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K., Duaner, O.K…….

  133. el_giacomo says:

    Good Job Duaner!

  134. MetsFan1976 says:

OK…well done, Duaner! That’s the Duaner we all know and love! (Where ya been, buddy?!?!)

  135. EV says:

    Nice job Duaner.

  136. khmustache says:

    dang…cmon bullpen hold em

  137. khmustache says:

    crap

  138. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh……

  139. rM teM says:

    REPLAY!!!

  140. hi5wright says:

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O

  141. EV says:

I hate Sanchez and this god awful bullpen.

  142. DavidDog says:

nice pitch dirty! time for a late-night food run… DAMN he sucks!

    • MetsFan1976 says:

That’s a bit much. I’m as frustrated with his poor performances lately as anybody, but no need to wish injury on the man.

  143. MetsFan1976 says:

And there’s the Duaner we know and hate. Ugh.

  144. metmania says:

    Sanchez sucks

  145. metmania says:

He should have never pitched this ining

  146. bkfitz says:

Thanks Duaner. Fat lazy turd. Can’t wait for you to blow games for another team next year.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I don’t know if he’ll be somewhere else next year. And I won’t be too upset about that…as long as he keeps his weight down and the Mets don’t overwork him.

  147. DavidDog says:

honestly. this guy is the biggest liability in our liability-filled bullpen. How do you keep sending this guy out there? He just hasnt gotten it done at all for over a month now. I felt like it was miracle he actually got that out in the 7th, an u send him back for the 8th???

    • das2ble says:

I agree. I feel like you have to pick your spots with him a la Schoeneweis

      • shiprdr19 says:

And what “spots” would they be? Every reliever sucks when brought in.

        • kbh218 says:

Stokes has been pretty solid. Everyone else has sucked.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Duaner can’t be brought into a tight spot until he works through whatever he has been going through for the last month or so. All of the Mets’ relievers (except for Stokes, so far) have been horribly unreliable lately, so they unfortunately have to put somebody unreliable in the game in the tight spots, but Duaner has been practically a guarantee to be bad, lately. Until he shapes up, he needs to be in mop-up duty.

  148. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Come ON.
Just bring Stokes in. He’s gonna be the most overworked reliever in this pen….

    • MetsFan1976 says:

4 games in a row, including tonight’s game. And I believe he pitched 2 innings in Game 1 against the Phils. He’s due for a day off, but with Petey pitching on Sunday, it’s gotta be all hands on deck.

  149. das2ble says:

    LET”S GO STOKES

  150. hi5wright says:

I’m losing track of how many times there’s been an 0-2 count but the batter eventually gets on base. Grr!!!!!!

  151. Dafatone80 says:

Duaner’s a unique and important part of this pen. He’s a rare guy that’s equally effective against lefties and righties.

Of course, he sucks equally against both.

  152. DavidDog says:

it’s also sadly ironic that our hated marooney song probably never gets more airtime than when the mets are in town, with our pen and jerry’s dreaded matchups

  153. Zarkin620 says:

did I miss something in the pre-game about certain people in the bullpen being unavailable, why leave sanchez in? and stokes is coming in now?

  154. das2ble says:

Man I really hate Cody Ross

  155. hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

it’s really sad what’s happened to duaner’s career. I want Jae Seo back at this point

    • MetsFan1976 says:

He’s just in a bad stretch right now. There’s no reason to think he can’t, eventually, turn it around. He just can’t come on into close games until he does.

  156. c.1970 says:

I’m all for having baseball-knowledgable announcers, but Keith Hernandez is almost crossing the line into nausea. He’s not impartial. He seems to delight in the Mets bombing. I think part of him thinks the only legitimate Met teams are the ones he played on.

As for Sanchez, he’s not MLB material anymore. He’s injured and should be shut down. I have no idea why Manuel would even consider using him before anyone else in any situation.

    • shiprdr19 says:

He certainly was very very complimentary to the Marlins after that Jacobs homer. Has he not watched their free-fall in the past few weeks?

      • c.1970 says:

Yes. It’s maddening. The Mets are in 1st with a dead pen and infielders playing the outfield—well!—and Hernandez is talking about what gamers the Marlins are. I have a feeling Cohen is going to slug him by September 28.

    • Dafatone80 says:

Apparently Scho’s hurt, and Heilman maybe too?

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I think you’re overreacting to one comment. Keith has been very complimentary of the Mets–at least since Manuel took over, and the Mets started playing better. He has said great things about Pelfrey, Jose Reyes, Murphy–most of the young players, in fact. He keeps praising Delgado, and talking him up as an MVP candidate. He is always speaking well about Wright. There isn’t much good to say about the pen lately, but he was very complimentary of Stokes, too.

Keith is often quick to refer back to his glory days, but to suggest that he is biased *against* the Met is ridiculous. If anything, he is a big homer (not like the Braves’ or Yankees’ guys, but still).

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Oh, yeah…and Gary seems to very much enjoy working with both Ron *and* Keith, so I doubt he’ll be punching out either one of them.

  157. MetsFan4Decades says:

And now the wheels come off….

  158. das2ble says:

I guess the only silver lining is that the Mets get to call up more relievers on Sept. 1

  159. BigPelf4prez says:

    BRING BACK A REY!!!

  160. shiprdr19 says:

SNY’s graphic illustrating the bullpen’s numbers since the All-Star break really put things into perspective about how HORRIBLE our bullpen has been. Five or six relievers with ERAs over 6. My God!

    • das2ble says:

I know – it makes the fact that the Mets have been winning a lot of games seem that much more impressive

  161. sandiegometsman says:

that cab accident must have been a lot worse then what we know about it… Cause Sanchez is an absolute piece of crap… he is just god awful… can someone explain why Manuel continutally trots him out there….. He really is f******* awful

    • MetsFan1976 says:

He has to pitch him *sometime*. He just shouldn’t pitch him in these tight spots until he straightens himself out.

  162. khmustache says:

    HUGE!!!!!!

  163. hi5wright says:

    Stokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NICE!

  164. das2ble says:

If Stokes gets through this inning without giving up a run, do you have him bat 3rd in the 9th?

Ok….we will find out right now

  165. MetsFan4Decades says:

Brian gets the job done. Wow. He’s the only one to trust right now. Too bad he can’t pitch every day….

  166. MetsFan1976 says:

God help us–Brian Stokes is our savior!

    Good job, Brian!

  167. BlueCapsOnly says:

Every ball hit in the air lately is giving me heart palpatations

  168. DavidDog says:

nice job stokes, lets get him this win!

  169. anrst says:

JUST SAY NO … To Duaner Sanchez

  170. danlx13 says:

    alright ive seen enough….
    8th inning – Ayala
    Closer – Stokes

  171. anrst says:

FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS… Bring Duaner Sanchez into the game

  172. anrst says:

MADS … Mothers Against Duaner Sanchez

  173. DavidDog says:

unnoticed, another disappearing act by our offense after 3-4 innings..

    • MetsFan1976 says:

Oh, I noticed And they are *at least* as much to blame for this loss as Duaner and Heilman. We all knew it would be asking a lot to ask the bullpen to protect a 1-run lead, and the Mets only scored 3 runs. They need more than that…and they sure as hell need to tack on runs when they get scoring chances. Blowing those chances has cost them as much as, if not more than, the shaky bullpen.

  174. EV says:

    Yea Stokes!!!!!!

  175. anrst says:

DARE …to keep the mets off Duaner Sanchez

  176. das2ble says:

    Go Murphy Go

  177. DavidDog says:

honestly, we cant let their bullpen beat ours. they’re bringin out MARK FriggeN HENDERSON for the 9th in a tie game!!!

  178. das2ble says:

    finally! a good bunt

  179. MetsFan4Decades says:

    I’m begging you, Damion…..

  180. coach says:

When will Al Reyes be ready?

    Reyes/Smith/LHP matchup in 7th

    Ayala 8th

    Stokes 9th

Can we please get rid of Sancrap and Heilnoooooo

    Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  181. MetsFan4Decades says:

Lindstrom. Think anyone can hit that 99 MPH fastball???

  182. anrst says:

ONCE UPON A TIME… Duaner Sanchez was a good pitcher…a car accident and two years later… not so much

  183. danlx13 says:

who did we trade him 4???

  184. metsfan42793 says:

as the marlins announcers would say the hammer is up

  185. EV says:

Can the offense do something here please, David said it best the o has disappeared again tonight.

  186. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh…
Not only does the BP have to now get 3 outs in the ninth, minimum another 3 in the 10th.

  187. EV says:

Dammit, yea how would Lindstrom look right now in a Mets uniform? What a dumb trade by Omar.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I never expected it to work out this badly, but it made little sense at the time. It seemed something like a trade for the sake of making a trade. Two righties for two lefties, perhaps. Actually, I believe Omar said he made the deal because Lindstrom and Owens are older than Vargas and Bostick. Still an odd move. And like I said, it seemed like a trade that was made just for the sake of making a trade. And now, in hindsight, it is clear that we got ripped off.

  188. das2ble says:

    LET’S GO HEIMLICH!

  189. BigPelf4prez says:

It is now inevitable. Who will end it??

  190. metsfan42793 says:

    ENTER HELLNO

  191. MetsFan1976 says:

Geez…Heilman vs. Hanley does *not* bode well for the Mets…

  192. khmustache says:

    cmon heilman

  193. BigPelf4prez says:

There is 0 chance the Mets win this game

  194. Two-By-Four says:

I was wondering. In the last ten years has there been a ballclub with a bullpen that is performing as poorly as the Mets bullpen that has won a division?

    • kbh218 says:

Last year’s Phillies bullpen? They were pretty awful.

      • EV says:

This bullpen is worst than last years Phillies pen.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Probably not, if you discount their freakishly good performances against the Mets last year (or was it that the Mets’ offense just performed so badly against the Phils’ pen last year?).

  195. BigPelf4prez says:

SCREW THE UMP!!! THAT WAS STRIKE 3!!!!!!!!!!

  196. Airfeet says:

i mean you cant walk the leadoff guy

  197. sandiegometsman says:

aaron, aaron, arron.. can’t walk the leadoff guy… come on man…

  198. metsfan42793 says:

that was a strike this umpire has been horrible the whole game

  199. Dafatone80 says:

Do you walk Cantu to set up the DP? Who is behind him, Jacobs? Nah.

  200. metsfan42793 says:

    game over

  201. BigPelf4prez says:

Here it comes. DAMN SCHNEIDER YOU SUCK

  202. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup. This has bad written all over it…..

  203. metsfan42793 says:

SCHNEIDER CAN U CATCH THE BALL?

  204. rM teM says:

    wake up dude

  205. MetsFan4Decades says:

I have never seen walking the bases loaded with 1 out work yet. This is Heilman on the mound.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I’m sure it works sometimes, but it’s too much of a risk with our inconsistent relievers. They’re not usually struggling to throw strikes like Heilman was tonight, but that has happened–and they also throw a lot of hittable pitches. Either way, it doesn’t seem like an ideal situation to intentionally load the bases with less than 2 outs.

  206. BigPelf4prez says:

Another LOSS for Heimlichman. 9 LOSSES!!! STOP PITCHING THIS GUY HE SUCKS

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No Feliciano, no Sanchez, don’t pitch Heilman.
You gotta put someone out there. It’s all a crap shoot.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Exactly. All of you are justifiably criticizing the pen, but when you say “stop pitching him!” for everybody in the pen, that’s absurd. Someone has to pitch. And we can’t expect a complete game every time out. Or even often. Including tonight…Pelf threw too many pitches.

  207. Airfeet says:

hes gonna walk in the winning run…….

  208. khmustache says:

well here goes…sure could use a dp here

  209. BigPelf4prez says:

I have never in my life ever seen a worse Pen!!

  210. EV says:

I’m tired of watching this god awful bullpen not get the job done, freaking pelfrey deserves the win tonight.

  211. rM teM says:

    I miss Rick Peterson

  212. Airfeet says:

Heilman is no worse than any righty in the pen…how can anyone say stop pitching heilman

  213. metsfan42793 says:

didnt the mets walk the bases loaded a few days ago and what happened. o yea chris coste is what happened

  214. kbh218 says:

This intentionally walking the bases loaded strategy didn’t work out too well against the Phillies the other night. Let’s see what happens tonight. I am not optimistic.

  215. das2ble says:

    have to pray right here

  216. foul bunt strikeout says:

all 15 marlin fans are pumped right now

  217. shiprdr19 says:

    This will not end well.

  218. kbh218 says:

Watch Heilman walk in the winning run.

  219. foul bunt strikeout says:

um aaron…you know a walk loses it for us

  220. rM teM says:

    no, it’s recorded

  221. metsfan42793 says:

WOW HEILMAN WHAT R DOING U DONT WALK THE BATTER

  222. metsfan42793 says:

    HOW OBVIOUS

  223. Airfeet says:

told everyone hed walk in the run…i knew it

  224. BigPelf4prez says:

THIS PEN BLOWS AND HEILMAN IS A CRAPPY P O S!! THEY WILL NEVER WIN WITH THIS STIFF!! OR ANY OF THESE BUMS!! N E V E R!! AARON HEILMAN PLEASE GO TO HELL

    • shortstop says:

Heilman ruined the 2006 season for us, as well as last year. Now he’s going to singlehandedly blow 2008 for us too. If we bring him back in 2009, we’re nuts. Heilman, you’ve got to go.

  225. rM teM says:

    a whole

  226. MetsFan4Decades says:

You have got to be kidding me.
    That just flat out sucked.

  227. khmustache says:

    wow…that sucked

  228. das2ble says:

    WOW

HOW IS HE STILL ON THE TEAM?

    • MetsFan1976 says:

As opposed to who? Muniz? Kunz? Some other unproven minor leaguer? Granted, there’s always Al Reyes, but why would he necessarily take the place of Heilman? Has Heilman really been any worse than Sanchez? Or Feliciano?

  229. EV says:

    What a freaking disgusting loss.

  230. dwright57 says:

awesome job by the pen again………….

  231. el_giacomo says:

arrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! grooooove one! UGH DAMN DAMN DAMN worst way to lose a game UGH dammmittttt

  232. Dafatone80 says:

Yeah, I don’t love walking the bases loaded.

But what are you going to do? You want to walk someone to set up the DP, and you can’t let Jacobs beat you.

  233. fatburrell92 says:

    Heilman is absolutely pathetic.

  234. MetsFan1976 says:

Unreal. That’s the worst possible way to lose a game. Not only blowing a lead, but losing on a bases loaded walk.

  235. das2ble says:

HOW MANY GAMES CAN THE GUY LOSE FOR THE TEAM BEFORE HE IS CUT?

    HE IS JUST AWFUL

  236. hi5wright says:

    Real nice

  237. It is all Pelfs fault. I mean he should have went 9 innings again. He should be demoted back to where he came from!

  238. BigPelf4prez says:

AARON HEILMAN TAKE THAT SORRY PUSS OFF AND LEAVE THE TEAM AND QUIT YOUR SPORT

  239. EV says:

If Wagner doesn’t come back, this bullpen is going to cost us the goddam division. Who’s fault is this, Minaya.

    • kbh218 says:

Stop, please….no one could predict the bullpen would be this awful. Do you think Omar owns a crystal ball or something?

  240. hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

    well that was pathetic

  241. c.1970 says:

Lick the Fish’s b.alls, Keith, keep licking them.

  242. the_other_matt says:

Kenny Rogers looked bad tonight….I mean Aaron Heilman.

  243. foul bunt strikeout says:

    pathetic

throw a f’n strike you moron

heilman = constant reminder of the 2007 collapse

    sanchez = awful

yea heilman, paint the corner on a 3-1 pitch bases loaded in a tie game

  244. Two-By-Four says:

Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth are dead. Damn it, throw strikes!

But honestly, who didn’t see this coming.

  245. metsfan42793 says:

i dont even care if they oin on a walk off grandslam, u dont walk the bases loaded

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I’m the same way. Anything would have been better than a bases loaded walk. Maybe a bases loaded HBP [waving to Schoeneweis] is just as bad, but nothing is worse.

  246. kd bart says:

Just get rid of this weak willed piece of crap already. I’ve seen enough of his wilting under pressure.

  247. DavidDog says:

what a ball-less piece of garbage.

  248. rM teM says:

3 hours and 20 minutes. all for that crappy ending.
    what a waste

  249. sandiegometsman says:

God, Aaron and Sanchez are just the root of all evil on this team.. I don’t know what to say… if we luck out and make the playoffs…. they gotta take starters and get rid of these useless bums.. This is another disheartening loss similar to many this yr… I don’t care what anyone says.. Heilman is the most inconsistent, unreliable pitcher in Mets history…. PERPLEXING!!!

  250. shiprdr19 says:

This makes me want to beat my Dog. I’d rather lose on a walk-off grand slam. At least they would’ve earned it.

  251. BigPelf4prez says:

CUT AARON HEILMAN PLEASEEEEEEEEEE!! HE WILL RUIN THIS SEASON!!!!!!!!!! TRADE HIM FOR BENITEZ

  252. Stems says:

Id rather have seen a grand slam than that garbage…

    throw it down the middle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  253. Airfeet says:

its awesome to see the mets lose the game in the 9th without giving up 1 base hit…another nice way for hte pen to blow a game

  254. fatburrell92 says:

Trade Heilman for Fuentes right now, Colorado is willing to do that deal.

  255. das2ble says:

As awesome as yesterday was, today was just the opposite….

At least this will let Jerry know not to do that garbage with Heimlich on the mound again…..

It’s like the Maddog says, “You just can’t trust ‘em!”

    • MetsFan1976 says:

Meanwhile, he just pitched a great 3-inning performance on Tuesday, which is a lot better than anybody not named “Brian Stokes” has done recently.

Let’s face it…Heilman is one of several unreliable Mets relievers. He just happened to be the one that got the “L” tonight because he was in the game in the 9th. Can any of you actually say you’d have been confident in *any* other of the Mets’ relievers in the 9th inning? And any nonsense about being more confident in others than Heilman doesn’t count…if the other pitchers would have lost the game on a hit, rather than a walk, it would have been less infuriating, but just as much of a loss.

  256. dwright57 says:

AL reyes has been decent in AA…….but hes there for a reason….

boy what a f..ing roller coaster of a season

  257. BigPelf4prez says:

Keith gives the Fish credit when they didnt swing to win it?? WOW

    • Mr. Mets Butler says:

I like Keith, but he can be such a tool!

      But a funny tool!

      • RPIazza31 says:

Can you imagine the Philly phans on beerleaguer called Keith the biggest “homer” announcer ever???

I tried to set them straight but these are philly phans I live amongst…

  258. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i wanna be positive but if wagner is done for the season how can we honestly expect this bullpen to carry us to the playoffs.

  259. metsfan42793 says:

doesnt the last name make jerry realize he sucks. heilooperenitez

  260. Airfeet says:

WHY IN HTE WORLD DID WE BRING UP KUNZ…HAVE MANUEL DECLARE HIM OUR CLOSER…NOT GIVE HIM A CHANCE…AND THEN DEMOTE HIM…JUST DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE

  261. rM teM says:

    i’ve had enough.goodnight

  262. EV says:

Mets pen era since all star break 5.53, how does Minaya keep his job?

    • MetsFan1976 says:

Because Heilman not being able to throw a strike with the bases loaded tonight has nothing to do with Omar, perhaps?

  263. MetfaninFL says:

Well at least Heilman kept his numbers against the Fish look stellar even when he loses. 4 Walks and a Sac Bunt. What a way to lose.

  264. backinbusiness says:

walk, bunt, wild pitch, walk, walk, walk, loss.

    That’s a really stunning performance.

  265. kd bart says:

Not only does he issue the walks but he throws a wild pitch which forces you to have to load the bases.

  266. J0eSmiTh says:

wow. aaron, how about u throw some damn strikes.

  267. el_giacomo says:

Groove one right down broadway…hell put it on a tee for ‘em in that situation. Make THEM beat you!!! While it would still sting if they got a hit and won, it would sting a helluva lot less then handing them a W on a silver platter like that. :/

  268. metsfan42793 says:

    heilooperenitez sucks

  269. Flushing_is_Burning says:

walked in the game winning run… that sums it all up for this Mets bullpen

  270. BigPelf4prez says:

AARON HEILMAN, FELICIANO, SANCHEZ MUST BE OFF THIS TEAM!! I CAN NOT WATCH THEM ANYMORE!!

  271. Airfeet says:

    why is Kunz not up???????????????

    • kd bart says:

He was given a chance and was awful and looked like he was scared to be out there. They were right to send him down. He’s not ready for the role.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

They did not actually give him a chance. They claimed he was going to get the chance, then didn’t pitch him for a week, at which point he was extremely rusty and ineffective. And then they sent him down…which *was* the right move, if that’s how they planned to continue to use him in the majors.

  272. Mex_17 says:

    Heilman=piece of crap

I have no idea how this guy stays on the roster. Worst pitcher ever.

  273. EV says:

Zeile said it best, if Wagner doesn’t come back, how we can except to get to the playoffs with this bullpen?

    • BigPelf4prez says:

Wagner will blow it too though, but i’d rather lose with him than HEILMAN!! PLEASE GET THIS GUY OFF THE TEAM!!!

  274. jammer says:

only 1/2 decent pitcher in the bp is joe smith and jerry does not use him

  275. BigPelf4prez says:

Its a problem when you go to the ninth knowing you must score to have a shot

  276. MetsFan4Decades says:

Not like we expected to win every game from here on out, but come on. Winning w/o a hit?????

    Sigh…….

  277. EV says:

You can’t even get 6 outs from your freaking bullpen, what a joke. Again, if they don’t make the playoffs, FIRE OMAR. Great job fixing the pen Omar, Matt Wise only move and how did that turn out?

    • kbh218 says:

How about we fire the bullpen instead? Not sure if I am ready for the Tony Bernazard regime yet….hopefully it will never come.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

The only real fixing the bullpen needed after last year was to get rid of Mota, which Omar did. The complete collapse of everybody in the bullpen all at once is not something *anyone* could’ve predicted. Sure, the occasional backbreaking homer allowed by Heilman, or implosing by Show or Smith or Feliciano, but what we have been witnessing these past few weeks is unprecedented and nobody could have reasonably predicted it happening.

  278. kd bart says:

Every night is a crapshoot. One night, a guy can look lights out. The next time, he gets lit up. You don’t know what you’re going to get from any reliever night to night.

    • Mr. Mets Butler says:

Not true. Pretty much every outing for the past month from Sanchez and Feliciano is just putrid!

Heilman is either gold(three innings against philly) or dirt(tonight)!

All three need to be gone after this season.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Feliciano has had his moments, too. Remember…he has a couple of saves.

Duaner has been bad *almost* every time, recently. He occasionally pitches well for 1 or 2 hitters Manuel shouldn’t have pushed it tonight, once Sanchez got the 1 batter to end the 7th.

  279. RockfordMetsFan says:

Maybe Manuel should throw away the pitch counter and let every starter fend for themselves for 9 innings. It still would be better than leaving it to this bullpen.

  280. Airfeet says:

maybe we should just swap our bullpen with our Rotation…have Joe Smith and Heilman pitch up till the 4th…then let Johan and Pelfrey go 4-9

    • fatburrell92 says:

then we would be playing from behind.

      • Airfeet says:

no because our team scores in the first inning every game remember…so wed be tied after 3…and then maybe we could scratch out 1 more run after that and win by 1

        • fatburrell92 says:

It would still all balance out in the end though.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Maybe not…maybe the relievers would feel less pressure earlier in the game. Unfortunately, you can’t always know how your starters are going to pitch. You could put them in the game in the 4th, expecting 6 innings, and get a 5 inning performance. Then they’d be right back where they started.

Not that the Mets were actually going to try that…I’m just sayin’…

  281. fatburrell92 says:

damn now we need to win 2 out of 3 against the Brewers.

  282. c.1970 says:

I hope Manuel fires another shot across the bow tonight and tell the pigpen that on 9/1, all their jobs are going to AA callups.

  283. EV says:

If Wagner doesn’t come back, this team is in serious trouble.

  284. kd bart says:

Once again, tell me the names of these great relievers that could’ve been obtain that wouldn’t have cost you an arm and a leg. Look around baseball,. Very good relef pitching is at a premium. There are very few consistent middle relievers. A guy could be great one year and absolutely awful the next. Put it this way. The Mets have gotten lucky so far with Stokes because he wasn’t very good at his previous stops.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Agreed. That ship has sailed. But it’s very obvious something needs to be done over this winter coming up.

    • EV says:

Bart, in the previous offseason Dotel was available along with Linebrink, Omar signed Matt Wise. How did that move turn out?

      • kd bart says:

Linebrink on the DL since the end of July.

Dotel has a 6.75 ERA in August and has given up 5 homers in 9.1 innings. You’d all be screaming at him if he were doing that as a Met.

        • EV says:

Dotel’s overall ERA bart is 3.81, that’s better than half our pen right now.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Right…but our bullpen wasn’t imploding all year. Just recently. So the only thing that matters is that he has sucked recently.

    • Two-By-Four says:

I presented your very argument to a friend of mine and his answer was that he was not looking for a bullpen comprised of hofs. Even a small upgrade would do.

  285. Mex_17 says:

Firing Willie fixed half the problem. Firing Omar will fix the second half.

Omar has no idea how to field a good team. FIRE HIM.

This team could be good for the next few years, but not with Omar making his typical stupid decisions.

  286. MetsFan4Decades says:

Say what you want about Billy. Any night we need a closer, if Billy was here, Jerry would be managing this BP a bit differently. He wouldn’t have to worry about who he needs to save until the 9th to close it out. Especially when it’s likely to be a different guy every night. Changes the whole complexion of things.

Things were so much different in ‘06 when it was Heilman to Sanchez to Wagner. Now it’s roll the dice.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

Absolutely. A lot of the problems with the pen have to do with the fact that *everyone* is pitching outside of their usual roles and comfort zones. The pen had been doing well, once Manuel took over and gave everybody defined roles. Now, with Wagner out, everybody has essentially moved up a slot in importance. Sometimes relievers cannot handle increased responsibility, and it appears the Mets’ relievers are that way.

Of course, if the offense could score after the third inning, things might be better, as well.

  287. RockfordMetsFan says:

I had been hoping that the weather would get so bad that the game would have to be called after the 5th inning. Blame it on Gustav for not traveling further east, cause that would have been the only way to preserve the lead.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

I was hoping for the same thing. I didn’t realize how much it would be necessary, though.

  288. EV says:

Great Pedro is pitching tomorrow, you know what that means, we will be in the pen by the 5th-6th inning. Wilpons I am BEGGING you PLEASE FIRE OMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • kd bart says:

Next time you give two examples of relievers that Omar could’ve picked up last winter make sure that one of them, Linebrink, hasn’t been on the DL since the end of July and the other one, Dotel, hasn’t been downright awful in August to the tune of a 6.75 ERA and 5 homers in his last 9 innings.

      • EV says:

Bart Dotel’s era is 3.81, that’s better than half our pen’s ERA right now.

        • kd bart says:

          Pre All Star ERA 2.98

          Post All Star ERA 6.28

He’s gotten worse as the season has moved along.

        • EV says:

Fine I mentioned Linebrink and I was going to mention Mahay, but they are both on the DL, but at least they were pitching up until August. Freaking Matt Wise has been out of action since MAY.

        • EV says:

Again 3.81 Era in the AL translate that into the NL, it’s probably a run better. He’s better than just about everyone we have now. Forget free agents for a second, what about Matt Lindstron, Heath Bell, just examples of some bad Omar trades, both would look great in our pen right about now.

        • anrst says:

it’s not our job to find the opportunities to pick up relievers … it’s Omar’s job to create those opportunities and he has not… I find it impossible to believe that over 2+ years there simply has been no market for whihc poor Omar could upgrade our pen. OMAR SUX and NEEDS TO BE FIRED

        • EV says:

Totally agree with you on that one.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

It’s not our job to find better relievers to help our pen, but if you are going to claim that he should’ve done so, you should be able to support your point. So far, you have not done so.

Actually, no…Heath Bell is a good example. For whatever reason, the Mets never thought highly of him, and Omar ended up trading him for nothing.

While I do wish we had Lindstrom right now, and agree that that trade was bad, as well, keep in mind that Lindstrom has been inconsistent as well this year–he even got sent down to AAA at one point, he was such a mess. We have enough of that already. The future would be a bit brighter with him on the roster, though.

  289. fatburrell92 says:

we should give someone like Stokes a setup role when Wagner gets back, until then he’s the best guy out there to have in the 9th. Mix and match for the 8th now, but when Billy comes back Stokes is your guy.

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

im all for that… but that’s “if” wagner comes back… the elbow is not easy to heal =-(

      • fatburrell92 says:

I dunno, otherwise we have to trade for Fuentes or Cordero. Colorado is desperate to trade Fuentes so they might do it for an Evans/ Heilman package.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

Fuentes cannot clear waivers (if he was to clear them at all) before 9/1, so he would not be eligible for the playoffs, if we were fortunate enough to make it to the playoffs. Besides, Philly would block any trade of a reliever to the Mets by claiming the reliever on waivers–since they are below us, they get to put in a claim first.

    • Mr. Mets Butler says:

      IF Billy comes back!

  290. MetsFan4Decades says:

wow. Maz is barely disguising his disgust with this Mets BP on Post game live.

    MAZ FOR BP coach !!

  291. Ellen says:

Not that I do not agree with the comments about the pen, but once again, what is the deal with this offense? Marlins pitching shut us down for the final 6 innings. How many times has that scenario played out this season.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Good point. A few more runs, no need to walk the bases loaded and keep your fingers crossed for a double play.

    • Stems says:

Murphy getting thrown out was huge… woulda scored on Scheiners double.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

You don’t know if the same pitches would’ve been made if Murphy had still been on base, so there might not have been a double by Schneider in that situation.

Still, the point about the offense is still valid…the inability to score after the third inning is at least as much of a reason for this loss as the bad bullpen work.

  292. X-Man says:

This BP is incapable of holding a 1 run or 2 run lead. Unless the Mets have a big lead (and even then it’s not guaranteed with this pen) this BP can not close out the game, they just don’t have the talent or the mindset.

Heilman is a “Nibbler, a “Painter” and a “Hit The Corners” type pitcher. Why in the world would you EVER load the bases with a pitcher that does not live by throwing strikes? The result tonight was guaranteed as soon as they loaded the bases.

Something needs to be done with this PB quickly or the season could be lost in a hurry. Just think how far in front the Mets would be today if they had any resemblance of a decent BP. Not great, just decent.

    • kd bart says:

And the thing is he doesn’t need to nibble. The man throws in the mid 90s. He’s just not a mentally tough pitcher.

    • LIMetfan74 says:

This is why Omar needs to take a BIG hit. He did nothing to improve this pen! Matt Wise??? This is the same cast of characters that sucked last year!

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Except they have Duaner back, and don’t have Mota.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

I should add that I think Omar has really made some crappy deals. It’s just ridiculous to blame him for Heilman not being able to throw a strike with the bases loaded.

  293. anrst says:

Stokes is the only guy in the pen who actually deserves to be in the major leagues

    • fatburrell92 says:

and he wasn’t even here 4 weeks ago, this bullpen is pathetic, the AAA bullpen is prob better than ours.

      • anrst says:

i know. horrible. Our AAA journey men Stokes is our best arm … that’s what you get with Omar as GM.

        • MetsFan1976 says:

This bashing Omar for the sake of bashing Omar is getting ridiculous. He has made a bunch of bad moves, but he cannot make Heilman throw strikes.

Also…who do you think got Stokes?

  294. anrst says:

we have one big league quality arm in the pen … pathetic

  295. RockfordMetsFan says:

And yet, despite it all, the Mets are somehow still in first place. Stranger things have happened.

I’ll be at all 3 games in Milwaukee next week. I’ll be the one with the paper garbage bag over my head when the relievers come in.

  296. pjdrsd says:

I just don’t see how you bring Sanchez in at all with anything on the line. Can’t remember the last time he came in and was close to effective. Use him in mop-up, games with nothing on the line. He is obviously not himself, and has been more of a detriment than anything. And Heilman is just a crapshoot. It is getting ridiculous how as soon as a reliever comes in, you can see it coming. Even last night ended as a win, but after what? The worst part about tonight is that you know the Phils won, so why would you gamble with Sanchez? It is maddening.

    • anrst says:

DFA Sanchez already. He is a liability only. He’s toast.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

Enough with this Chicken Little garbage, already! I’m as sick of the bullpen blow-ups as anybody, but *somebody* needs to pitch! We all know what Duaner is capable of, so to just dump him after a bad month is absurd. Make him the mop-up guy until he straightens himself out, but to just dump him and have him figure things out and then pitch well for another team, because of one bad stretch, is flat out Steinbrenner-like (George or Hank).

  297. RockfordMetsFan says:

Make John Maine a closer, like they did with John Smoltz.

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

well, if he does pitch again this season it has to be from the pen. And max probably 1 inning every other day.

  298. RockfordMetsFan says:

Feliciano, Sanchez and Heilman. The new 3 Stooges.

  299. Ellen says:

    test

  300. Ellen says:

Oh, OK – thought my comments were being blocked yet I was not posting anything offensive…this blog sometimes is as frustrating as Met games…

  301. Andrew says:

You guys think it’s too late for Heilman to take up football? He did go to Notre Dame, after all…

  302. Ellen says:

Guys – do you think that while some pitchers are flourishing under Warthen (Ollie, Pelf, maybe Smith) , others might have been a better fit under the Jacket (Maine, Heilman and Duaner)? Just a thought,

    • RockfordMetsFan says:

It’s a long season, and these guys have simply run out of gas. Case in point – Castillo and his fresh legs.

    • nyj0126 says:

I think people get too caught up in giving pitching coaches’ credit or blame. Some guy’s like Ollie and Pelfrey just turn a corner on their own. This has nothing to do with Warthen or Peterson. Sometimes it happens before, during or after these kinds of changes. It’s about confidence.

Some guy’s have done well though. With Maine, it’s more so his injuries. His numbers aren’t bad. It’s just other guys have gotten better. For what it’s worth though, I think Dan’s done a good job. Same thing with Jerry. We’ll have to win the NL East for me to be convinced they’re worth having back though. They don’t even have to win a game in the playoffs for all I care. We just need to take back what is ours and keep it that way.

  303. nyj0126 says:

All I can say is we won a game we shouldn’t have the other night. We got lucky. 2 outs, no one one. I forgot if it was two strikes. And Castillo gets a hit. Than Wright. Than Delgado gets hit by a pitch and Beltran hits a grand slam no one probably saw coming – including himself.

Is that to say that the game against the Phillies we were up 7-0 shouldn’t have been a win? No. We had 2 outs, no one out and 2 strikes in the bottom of the 9th and lost the game. In my opinion, the win last night cancelled that out. Well, what about tonight? It’s a collective team effort. Dead bats. Garbage bullpen. This is how it’s been going.

What does Howard Johnson tell these guys? It’s not like they’re dumb or striking out. Least strikes out in the NL. Second most walks, only behind the Cubs. Yet they have such terrible in-game droughts. It’s a real issue. You can’t compete in the playoff’s when you can’t hit.

We’ve split the first two though, right? We split two in Philly. Not such a bad thing. We went into Philly the way we started. We’re the same way we started before Friday. We’ve actually gained a half game because the Cubs beat the Phillies 2 out of 3 so far. Tomorrow is what counts. It’s the rubber game. If they win, than maybe they’re for real. I’m confident. I think we can win. Of all pitcher’s, Pedro isn’t the guy I’d like to see out there – a guy with a 5+ ERA, but still. Let’s just win tomorrow.

  304. nyj0126 says:

75 wins. 26 games to go for both the Phillies and Mets with Mets up one.

Mentality at this point last year – disappointing

At this point – Mind boggling, confusing, yet greatful

If someone were to tell us this in June, probably estatic. Or shocked.

It’s not going to be easy. It’ll only get more stressful. Knowing the ghosts of last year’s September can actually help this team more than hurt it if they use it to as a motivator to prove to baseball they’re not a bunch of chokers. The good news if we have the same record as the Phillies in these last 26 games at worse, we’re in. I already know what games are deciding it. The 3 game set against them in our park. Chances are the division is determined by less than 3. Maybe even one. Hypothetically, if we were to sweep that series and say win 13 or 14 out of the other 23, how could we lose the division?

  305. Airfeet says:

Winning doesnt do anything at this point…we arent going to make the playoffs because our pen is getting worse and worse as the season goes on

  306. This game didn’t bother me that much. Why?

Gary – You don’t think the Phillies could find something better to do than watch this game on a Saturday night in Chicago?

Keith – Hey – this time of year, you have to get lots of rest.

    Gary – … You’ve changed.

I swear I almost peed my pants.

    • MetsFan1976 says:

      That was pretty funny.

I also liked the part, early in the game, when they mentioned the unavailable relievers, and Keith apologized for ruining everyone’s dinner, but said they just have to report the facts.

  307. pjdrsd says:

I do have to put a lot of the blame on the starters. Same as last year. The bullpen starts putting heavy innings in early in the season because of guys like Pedro and Ollie (early on) who could not go more than 5-6 innings. Not that Feliciano, Sanchez and Heilman have not done their part to suck, but it doesn’t help. At the same time, look at most every other bullpen out there. Now we have the Brewers and Cubs coming up this month? Not only the division, but the Wild Card will be at stake.

  308. DerangedHermit says:

Can we send Heilman to New Orleans indefinitely?

  309. matlack says:

Free Argenis Reyes and Damian Easley!!

  310. BigPelf4prez says:

Why is eddie kunz not on the call up list for tommorrow?? Can’t get that.

  311. Deadpanwalking says:

Okay, we’re up by 4 which means we’re really down by 2 with 3 bullpen innings coming up. We need three runs in the eighth and ninth to win this game. We can do it. Let us go Mets!

  312. sandiegometsman says:

Can we hold a 4 run lead with 2 innings left..? That’s the million dollar question.. I’d prefer we had another 4 or 5 runs to be honest
