Mets Walk-Offs provides a listing of a surprising number of left-handed starters who have made their Major League debut for the Mets.
Over at Always Amazin’, Matthew Artis says this September will be different for the Mets because after last September, we’ve already seen the worst they can do.
Metstradamus looks at the continuing comparision of Daniel Murphy and Wade Boggs, and he believes Murphy needs to continue his ‘Boggsian’ effort if the Mets will be without Carlos Beltran for awhile.
…from the beginning when people were trying to find a comparison for Murphy’s batting stance, my first thought was boggs…i even mentioned this to MetsBlog’s own Regis Courtemanche at a recent game…glad to know others see it as well…
Meanwhile, over at the New York Post, Bart Hubbuch takes a look at Nelson Figueroa’s return.

Off of the baseball field I’ve always despised Wade Boggs so I’ll hope that the comparison is strictly on-field, and that Murphy is a one-woman man who likes meat other than chicken and retains his hair.
i’d be cool with him drinking 50+ beers on a cross-country flight though.
Boggs? That’s pretty ambitious. He reminds me of Dave Magadan, another pretty good, patient lefty batter. Magadan drove me crazy though, because he was always so willing to work out a walk, even in game situations w/RISP.
Murphy looks a bit more aggressive in those spots. He’s a keeper, for sure.
who cares about off the field shenanigans?
welp talk about being thrown into the fire. Good Luck Neise.
I know…I’m excited though
be without Beltran for a while?
yea thats BS…he might miss a game, if that.
I wouldn’t trade Daniel Murphy and a side of rice pilaf for anybody.
lol the funny thing is that was not the case just a few months ago.
yea i know…people were begging us to send that rice pilaf.
lollll
Always Amazin’ mentions the Mets’ “postseason odds”, which is a “statistic” that ESPN also uses in their standings. Never before have I felt that a “statistic” was so grossly ridiculous, irrelevant, and moronic!
I’ve been think Dmurph looks a lil like Ventura at the plate.
I was thinking the same thing – if what we’ve seen of Murphy is indicative of what kind of player he will be, I think it’s reasonable for us to expect him to be as good a hitter as Ventura (though his defense is unlikely to approach Ventura’s).
Ventura (at least in his time w/the Mets) was pretty much a dead pull hitter, whereas Murph sprays the ball around.
One of the road announcers over the weekend said that Murphy reminded him of Mattingly at the plate. I can see it.
i think daniel murphy’s swing and stance look more like jim edmonds, not boggs. it actually looks nothing like boggs.
Boggs. Mattingly. Ventura. Edmonds.
WOW
There’s some heady company you’re all lumping the kid in with.
Lets shoot for Wiggington first, shall we?
In the offseason, Omar has to decide if Murph/Evans is really a credible platoon in the OF, or if he wants to acquire a corner.
You’re right. But barring injury I am confident Murphy will lap Wigginton sometime soon. I was actually referring to the way he looked rather than his results.
Corner OF help? I think the Mets should spend about 99.992% of their resources this winter on bolstering their bullpen!!
Well I hope so on Murphy!
As for offseason:
1) Extend Manuel (IF they make playoffs)
2) Pick up Delgado option (but explore 1b market)
3) BULLPEN HELP
4) RESIGN OLLIE
5) Corner OF
