Didn't A-Rod win the MVP one year playing for a last-place Texas Rangers team?

Anyway, all awards are meaningless to me since Palmeiro won the 1B Gold Glove that year he played 10 games at 1B. And Jeter winning a GG... utterly ridiculous!

Even the HOF is a joke these days. They keep people out for petty reasons. The only reason Keith Hernandez is not in the HOF is because of the Pittsburgh drug scandal and his personality rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Such BS. Put him and Pete Rose in the HOF (as if Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth were saints themselves!), stop handing out GG's to people who don't even remotely deserve them and stop handing out MVP awards to players on last place teams, and maybe I'll start caring again!

I think he is, the problem is voters put too much emphasis on sexy numbers like rbis and hrs. If you look at most of reyes other stats what he's doing is historical, or at least for us it is.

LOL... I'm glad we can have a sense of humor about what happened last year. On the flip side, the Mets have a ridiculously easy schedule to finish the season (with the exception of this weekend's Philly series and the four games vs. the Cubbies), so I think it will hurt more if they repeat last season's September performance.

Reyes has been my MVP for this team all along, but there are a lot of Mets having great years now. It's just fun to see this team's confidence growing every game and that makes them fun to watch night in and night out.

Did anyone read John Harper's column in Daily News? Good one on Bernazzard and quotes on the whole Willie thing before and after. Bernazzard was pretty open about Manuel's approach vs. Willie, and there were some quotes from Reyes too.

I think Reyes has a shot at the MVP, provided he finishes up September with more of the same. Aside from the rather pedestrian April, Reyes has been consistently good at the plate.

For May-Aug, he's batted over .300 every month; has had at least 36 hits each month; had a 40 hit month (with a close 39 hit month); played excellent defense; etc.

If he doesn't win, it'll come down to a couple of factors:

1. Delgado and Wright taking votes
2. Not enough power for an MVP
3. Perceived lack of focus (lots of baserunning blunders and such earlier in the season may stick in voters minds)
4. Reyes is typically a flashy guy and perhaps rubs the voters the wrong way.

As it is, I suspect it'll be Pujols or Berkman with Reyes/Hanley/Holliday/Utley/Wright fighting for 3rd through 7th.

Rickey was pretty horrible in the field, and Reyes plays the most important defensive position on the field and he plays it well. So I do think Reyes has a couple of extra little boosts.

But I do agere with your overall point, there is no way that Reyes wins the MVP until he hits 25 homers in a season at least.

That didn't help either. It took them about 2 months after Reyes started playing awesome to get off his back and stop blaming him for well, everything.
