Winter '05 when Delgado was being courted by the Mets + Marlins, Jeff Wilpon and Bernazard were dropping rash comments about the Mets' supposed advantage in procuring Hispanic players. Whatever went down when Delgado "met the Mets," his first impressions were not good, and quotes like the one above were getting back to New York.

Hmm "without bashing the victim of those moves."

Maybe you just seem to not get it.

Sillie made us the victim, and we was that for a few years..

All water under the bridge man. We have a good thing going here now and let's just ride the wave and forget about the past. The bottom line is (and the ONLY thing that should matter) that we have a good ball club playing hard for it's manager and possibly on the verge of accomplishing some great things in 2008.

Willie who?

Holy heck they are still talking about how bad he was. Hmm, maybe next year a third bade coach for the Yankees again. I guess that may be all that he was worth.

Heck that article is important to write now. For it not only shows how bad Sillie was during his entire time as managing, but how silly all of the Sillie fans was right down to the end. For you was part of the reason why they kept him on the team.

We Met fans had a very bad time when he was the manager, but the Sillie fans kept saying he is doing good we are in first place, even though they was playing 500 ball. Which is not a base of a winning team.

Based on how he managed he would not even play Murphy, or some of the others Like not ready yet, we have to s l o w l y bring them in..

I had no clue of who I should dislike more, Sillie or you Sillie lovers.

Human beings do have emotions, and those emotions do have an effect upon a person activities, even if they do not want it to be that way. So it certainly can effect a baseball player even if they do not want it to happen.

And those remarks of how bad he was should be good for at least a decade.

So get used to it.

maybe what helps jerry create a good atmospher is that bernazard doesn't tell the players everything he says about them in closed door meetings.

Sorry, haven't kept up to date on my Willie supporters/detractors list. I thought by highlighting the "harder" you were saying he'd been purposely dogging it.

Huh? Absolve Willie? Do you not know that I am the biggest anti-Willie people in the NY-Metro area? If anything, this proves what I had been saying since the Reyes benching last year....that some people in that locker room completely hated coming to work every day with that man as "boss".

And your point? You really want to pin it on them and absolve Willie? The fact is, he didn't know how to get the best out of the players he had.

It's absurd to think that major leaguers would purposely play below their ability -- affecting their careers, and in Delgado's case, affecting to an extreme degree the contract he would be able to get the following year -- to try to get the manager fired. Do you seriously believe this? Did they have any reason to expect they would be successful at it, even if they did decide to sacrifice their own stats and, again, income?

I think the most telling part of Jose's comment is that Jerry talks to him every day. I read a poignant piece last year, don't remember when or where, about Willie being a more or less isolated guy, liking to remain in his office, and when he did walk through the clubhouse it was without speaking to players or them speaking to him. He did not know how to manage his players, and help them get their best performance out of themselves. Bottom line.
