Following his bullpen session in Shea Stadium today, Billy Wagner told reporters that he feels good, and that he hopes to return from the disabled list on Tuesday – though the team may choose to take advantage of the two off days next week, and bring him back on Friday.
Wagner said he will throw a simulated game against live hitters on Sunday.
He said the muscles in his arm still feel stiff from time to time, but he is not sore.
According to Jerry Manuel, prior to the game, if Wagner does not end up pitching in a minor-league rehab game before his return, he’ll first be used by the Mets in a non-save situation.

What does that mean “take advantage of the two off days”? What are they taking advantage of? They have 40 man rosters, it’s not like they need to make a player move… Am I missing something?
Too bad… Team showed it didn’t need him. The hot streak will end as soon as he spews his venom.
I’m not the biggest fan of the guy but you’re insane if you don’t think a (hopefully) healthy Wagner can’t help this team.
Meaning no reason to have the urge to use him in a save/hold situation during the games vs. Washington and using those days to give him that little extra rest.
Now let’s just get Maine, Alou, Pagan, Brady Clark, Jason Vargas, and whoever else off the DL, we can be at FULL STRENGTH!
Is it 7 yet? I really need this game to start soon because the anticipation is killing me
I gotta miss probably the first 5 innings due to some a (stupid) commitment. Though that will probably good for my stress level for an hour or two.
Tonight’s Lineup:
Reyes (ss)
Murphy (lf)
Wright (3b)
Delgado (1b)
Beltran (cf)
Church (rf)
Castillo (2b)
Schneider (c)
Pelfrey (rhp)
I can dig on that.
i also dig.
Works for me. I know you all hate him, but doesn’t Castillo’s speed get buried hitting 7th in front of Schneider and Pelfrey? Whereas Murphy’s better power would fit better down there? nit-picking, but it’s there.
We can compromise, and bat Castillo 8th if the haters like. This allows Pelfrey to bunt him over, and Reyes to drive him in on a single.
