Works for me. I know you all hate him, but doesn’t Castillo’s speed get buried hitting 7th in front of Schneider and Pelfrey? Whereas Murphy’s better power would fit better down there? nit-picking, but it’s there.

We can compromise, and bat Castillo 8th if the haters like. This allows Pelfrey to bunt him over, and Reyes to drive him in on a single.

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:01 pm

I gotta agree with you. Luis should be hitting 8th especially with Schneiders recent power surge.

ruthlii@yahoo.com September 6, 2008 at 9:39 am

Although most will credit Willie’s departure for the turn in the season, the Mets inserted a hardnose second basemen named Damion Easley at second at the same time. This isn’t a coincidence and I’d love to hear the rational explanation why Easley is not playing in big games?

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 6:33 pm

Im so pumped for this game–woke up at 6 am on my saturday so I could follow along from China.

I hope the Mets beat up Myers like he….well, you know.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Get the coffee brewing, dude and Enjoy !

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 6:44 pm

I have Coffee brewing and alcohol ready just in case we get too big a lead too early ;-)

mookie September 5, 2008 at 6:38 pm

and…… here…… we…………… GO!

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 6:38 pm

wow – didn’t realize this: ‘The Mets have hit a homerun in 14 consecutive games.’

Keep it up, boys. Let’s go Big Pelf and Let’s Go Mets !!

Kind of bummed this is on CW11 – no pregame show.

losmets5 September 5, 2008 at 6:47 pm

I don’t even think I’m gonna get the game. They shouldn’t be allowed to black games out.

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 6:49 pm

You don’t get CW11? oh..because you’re out of market, but it’s on regular TV, so you don’t get it because you should watch on CW, but your affiliate doesn’t play the game?

losmets5 September 5, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Huh? You lost me. I do get CW11, btw.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 6:49 pm

You’re right – that sux.

hyperion4 September 5, 2008 at 6:59 pm

I’m even more impressed with the incredible defensive run they’ve had. Not sure what it is right now but it should be something like 5 errors in 40+ games.

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 6:43 pm

uhmm … easley is hitting .455 in 11 ABs against myers while castillo is batting .176 vs. him in 34 ABs????? why is castillo in the lineup? he better make some stellar defensive plays and walk, SB, etc…

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Castillo’s just better, but this surprises me, usually Manuel is in love with matchups like that.

Stems September 5, 2008 at 6:46 pm

if the bottom 3 of the lineup can do something today… we’re golden.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Wife Beater’s due to get hit hard. This game is extra big because I still have no confidence in Pedro.

staub4lolichstillhurts September 5, 2008 at 7:03 pm

he actually has been getting hit hard in his last few outings and has had trouble locating his fastball.

I think we are going to blow him up today…

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 6:47 pm

I can see why Philly fans hate Charlie Manuel.

Im listening to Eddie C interview him right now and he sounds like a yokel version of willie.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 6:49 pm

man i am so stoked for this series! LETS GO METS!!!

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 6:50 pm

If Pelfrey could just drill Rollins on the 1st pitch of the game, he’ll be “one of us” forever.

Stems September 5, 2008 at 6:53 pm

“Gooble gobble one of us…”

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 6:54 pm

freaks…nice…

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 6:53 pm

LOL look at the game thread on beerleaguer: They bill this as a “Heavyweight Bout”

In that corner, Bret Myers. In the other corner…. Mrs. Myers.

BigPelf4prez September 5, 2008 at 6:54 pm

This series is so more important for the phillies. We have no pressure on us at all. I have no doubt we will win 2 out of 3 cause we have seen no different this year.

teufelshuffle86 September 5, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Agreed. As long as we win one game we are fine.

Ryn05 September 5, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Great, the idiot Philly announcers.

Ryn05 September 5, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Screw you MLB Extra Innings.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:02 pm

man i hate that cw11 has this game…i’ve got the crappy phils pheed on lo-def with a phillies big moments at shea montage…oh well…LETS GO METS!!!!

Jaded1983 September 5, 2008 at 7:03 pm

I’m beyond excited for this game!

LETS GO METS!!! GO GET ‘EM BIG PELF!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:04 pm

they just showed the tatis walkoff…ahh sweet memories

Ryn05 September 5, 2008 at 7:07 pm

They made the clips seem like it’s been back and forth all year, ah blatant homerism.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:09 pm

they made sure to show the reyes finger in the air, and they mentioned the mets celebrating twice…i hate everything about the girl horses…i won’t even eat campbells soup anymore because of them

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 7:09 pm

They should use that thing from that movie with Ben Stiller when he said Just do it to say just win the division already on the jumbo tron lol

teufelshuffle86 September 5, 2008 at 7:11 pm

LET’S DO THIS!!!!!!!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:12 pm

what is it with the stupid chin beards on the girl horses? does everybody have one? i hate this team

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Turn two boys. I can’t remember the last time the Phillies scored before us. Let’s not let them score.

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 7:13 pm

I don’t know what’ll be better seeing Brett Myers looking distressed on the mound or hearing Harry Kalas depressed.

Gary Busey September 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm

LOL @ U BURRELL

Gary Busey September 5, 2008 at 7:21 pm

how did that get there

whatever, i bet kalas just wheezed at that

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:13 pm

I’m starting to hate victorino more than any phillie

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:14 pm

damn…

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:15 pm

No doubt in my mind, I hate Victorino the MOST!

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:15 pm

terrible throw.

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Umm… isn’t Castillo supposed to be backing that up?

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Forget about Castillo

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 7:17 pm

Huh?

Does the 2nd baseman no longer back up on that play? I’m relatively pro-Castillo, at least as much as one could be. Gary/Keith/Ron didn’t really bring it up. Shouldn’t he be there?

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 7:30 pm

I’m not sure myself. Probably, but he can’t necessarily vacate the hole until after the pitch either, and by then it’s probably too late.

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Come on. Let’s score some runs

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:16 pm

alright no big deal.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:16 pm

Gary ‘Can of corn at Shea’, homrun at CBP’.
Sit down, Howard.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:17 pm

*homerun

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Dude, I think we’re all smart enough to figure out you forgot the ‘E”. LOL

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:19 pm

LOL – just trying to correct myself before those that love to correct mis-spellings and grammar jump all over me.

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:21 pm

you forgot an ‘e’

idiot

j/k

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:25 pm

whats a homrun?

Ryn05 September 5, 2008 at 7:17 pm

Jesus Christ these announcers are horrible.

Only they could make this game feel like a Giants broadcast.

Ryn05 September 5, 2008 at 7:18 pm

How is that an earned run? Retarded.

staub4lolichstillhurts September 5, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Okay, Myers has gotten hit hard in his last two starts and has had trouble locating his fastball. Ler’s put up a crooked number boys!!!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:18 pm

the campbell soup guy just called murphy dennis and ryan church is now brian church…at least learn the freakin names

gipper82475 September 5, 2008 at 7:36 pm

The Phils guys are brutal…not quite the homers the Fish and Nats announcers are (and don’t get me started on teh D’bag announcers) but the Phils announcers are one step from the grave and do NO homework.

I gave up on them tonight and switched to MLB.tv. which has the NY feed.

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:19 pm

here comes the wife beater

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:19 pm

The “Hitting Machine”!!!!!!!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm

pat “the glove” burrell!

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm

MURPHHHHHHHHH

backinbusiness September 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm

How do I get that Pat Burrell dive flop flop on a continuous loop?

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm

All right Murph. Get him home, David.

anonymii September 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm

That was hilarious.

JoseReyesForPresident September 5, 2008 at 7:21 pm

lmao someone has to post that on youtube

1331 September 5, 2008 at 7:21 pm

gary is really putting down the phils tonight

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:23 pm

And reading the comments on Beerleaguer, they’re all over Gary for that – lol.

sundaysection15 September 5, 2008 at 7:23 pm

HAHAHAHAH i love watching burrell in left field. oh man thats high comedy

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:23 pm

that 2-2 pitch was CLOSE

EV September 5, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Crap.

gipper82475 September 5, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Stupid CW11…now I have to watch the Philly feed on Extra Innings all night. Ugh.

Oh…good…..NY feed on MLB.tv

Phew.

Ryn05 September 5, 2008 at 7:26 pm

You pay for both?

gipper82475 September 5, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Of course…just for occasions like this. Also useful when at work I can watch the game live on my comp OR I can DVR the game on Extra Innings and watch later depending on the day/occasion and my other plans.

Plus the MLB.tv includes the MLB.audio for national blackout games.

Why not have both?

Neither are expensive.

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 7:38 pm

well, ‘expensive’ is relative. I’d just run mlb.tv from my computer into my tv if I needed to.

gipper82475 September 5, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Quality is better on the TV and I can DVR the Extra Innings.

The total for both was a couple hundred bucks – for a season of baseball. Heck, I made that much on a good day in my high school job. It’s really a pretty good deal, IMHO.

Just wish Extra Innings would let you choose which feed you want for the year, or always have home and away feeds available. Too many times I get home to settle in and watch a Mets game after a long day…only to have to endure the unprofessional hacks that populate the TV booths in Miami, DC, Phoenix, etc.

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:26 pm

Damn

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:29 pm

backwards k!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:31 pm

SIT DOWN!

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:32 pm

i am sitting down.

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:34 pm

im lying in bed and typing.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:36 pm

my bad…i didn’t mean to yell at everyone…you can lie down in you want

teufelshuffle86 September 5, 2008 at 7:35 pm

BIG PELF!!!

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Looking good, Carlos.

EV September 5, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Yea Beltran!!!!!!

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:38 pm

NICEE CARLOS

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 7:38 pm

It looks like pelf’s control is a little off…normally he always gets ahead in the count and last inning he fell behing 3-0 a couple times……im not complaining tho..he still has some dirty stuff

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:40 pm

the gir horses are doing all they can to help him though…they’ve been swinging at nearly everything so far

1331 September 5, 2008 at 7:41 pm

wheres slappy mchomerton?

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:41 pm

come luis one time

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:44 pm

making him work

calderon September 5, 2008 at 7:44 pm

following this in the middle of the night from italy…don’t let me down luis…

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:44 pm

i hate castillo

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Don’t forget, this is ‘Slappy”.

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:45 pm

thats not a strike

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 7:45 pm

well, one good thing so far is that myers has thrown a ton a pitches, if we cant get to him we can definitely light up there bullpen!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:45 pm

wow…these guys are talking about schneider like he’s willie mays…i can’t believe they’re walking him in the 2nd inning of a 1 run game

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Reyes leads off, good job.

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 7:46 pm

works for us, well have the top of the order next inning instead of pelf leading off,

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Nice that Castillo burned a bunch of pitches before getting out. That’s really the most you can ask for him.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:47 pm

The most you can ask of a $24M player? LOL

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 7:48 pm

What? Do you really expect him to do any better?

You treat your players based on how they play baseball, not how much they’re getting paid. Having Castillo on the team sucks. But I’m glad to see him have a productive at bat, for him.

pedro4545 September 5, 2008 at 7:46 pm

come on Big Pelf make him pay

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 7:48 pm

myers over 40 pitches threw 2 innings, we will get to him sooner or later

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:49 pm

42 pitches through 2 for the wife beater at least

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:50 pm

don’t worry, he’ll throw 4 next inning.

1331 September 5, 2008 at 7:49 pm

he cant get pelf out with a fastball

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:49 pm

so, the phillies get a gift first-inning run, and the mets blow two early chances. who else doesn’t like how that makes them feel on the inside?

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 7:51 pm

honestly, im just as comfortable playing from behind. i hate the feeling i have watching this team against philly with a lead.

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 7:51 pm

true!

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Agree, let Phillies feel the pressure of having to hold a lead.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Exactly, no lead for the bullpen to blow, maybe they can actually win the first game of a Phillies series for once

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:56 pm

I;m not saying I don’t think the Mets will win. I just would have like one of those runners to find their way home to tie it

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 7:52 pm

I’m still not exactly sure why Reyes didn’t try to stop Schneider’s throw. I mean I know the simple answer is that he’s a moron, but you have to wonder if he thought the would hit Victorino or if he thought he had someone backing him up.

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 7:53 pm

I’m still trying to figure out why Castillo wasn’t backing up. Someone mentioned above that maybe Castillo had to stay put to not move out of position.

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 7:54 pm

to be honest i think he was scared that if he reached for it he would have colided with the baserunner and gotten injured…but he defenitely should have done whatever he could to block it

1331 September 5, 2008 at 7:54 pm

with utley up, castillo should not have been backing up

EV September 5, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Yea Big Pelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:54 pm

If Reyes can get on, I have all the confidence in the world that Murphy can have a productive AB.

Gary Busey September 5, 2008 at 7:54 pm

I don’t understand people who talk on their phones at games

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 7:55 pm

it’s simple, they’re as.sholes

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:56 pm

I disagree. I think they are morons.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:58 pm

i think d****bags sums it all up

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 7:55 pm

im liking pelf’s stuff right now, hes settling down into a good groove althought hes thrown almost as many pitches as myers. dont see him going to deep tonight

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Oh, man…..

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Why does Howard become Keith Hernandez every time he plays the Mets?

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Gees, nothing is going their way so far.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 7:57 pm

howard makes one good play a year…why couldn’t he do that against the freakin braves or something?

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 7:57 pm

robbed of a triple

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Don’t like the karma so far.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 7:57 pm

i hear ya on that one!

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 7:57 pm

damn! one of those days unfortunately!

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 7:58 pm

The Mets dugout has to start a “wifebeater” chant and get this clown off his game

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

Great at bat. You are allowed to swing, David

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

hmmm….what was he looking at?

HOFMets57 September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

*sigh* David….

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

wright just doesnt look comfortable at the plate. how many times has he struck out in the last few games. wonder whats his deal.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

and a rod wright with another K

skylog September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

horrid. simply horrid

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

DWright is completely lost at the plate.

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 7:59 pm

made him work that inning.

EV September 5, 2008 at 8:00 pm

I totally agree I’m not liking the karma of this game right now.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:00 pm

not that big of a deal to strike out with 2 outs and nobody on

teufelshuffle86 September 5, 2008 at 8:00 pm

What could he possibly have been looking for right there? Jesus.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:02 pm

i agree, i’d like to think that in that situation I could even get a hit. i mean, you look at anything close to the plate and swing. even if you look like a fool, just swing. how can you not swing there? i just don’t get it. it’s as if he is thinking curveball and is waiting back and then it’s too late. bad, just bad

teufelshuffle86 September 5, 2008 at 8:03 pm

ball was right down broadway. I don’t get it.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:00 pm

but i’ll bet ya that if the mets are up 6-0 then wright will hit a HR. but not when we need him!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:01 pm

i’ll betcha that if the mets were winning you wouldn’t post!

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:02 pm

i’;ll betcha you are wrong, and you are a moron

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:06 pm

namecalling…the surest sign you’ve won an argument

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

sorry but i’m so tired of people on here commenting on OTHER people’s comments rather than on the game or the subject. it’s disgusting. just mind your own business

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:12 pm

forgive me…i just get really tired of defending the team against it’s own fans. baseball players slump, it’s a part of the game, mays slumped, ruth slumped, gwynn slumped…everybody slumps. the guy who put the team on his back for over a season is slumping and the people here act like he’s the worst ballplayer on the planet. i didn’t mean to attack you personally and i’m sorry if you took it that way.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:18 pm

it’s ok and i usually like and agree with your posts. i was just thinking of you in the same light as therealsince86 who only posts on other people’s comments and NEVER on the subject. either way, i really wasn’t bashing wright, nor did I say that he is the worst ballplayer ever. just a comment on how poor he has been lately, especially in big spots. obviously he is a great player and has done great things…and he will again, soon I hope. either way, sorry for the rude namecalling. that was not cool. my bad.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:21 pm

thanks man, likewise…i think we’ll both be in a much better mood if the mets take the lead…

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:21 pm

but i will always bash castillo…and you can’t stop me there! haha

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:22 pm

yeah, you are right about that

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:23 pm

agreed on castillo…might even join you on occasion!

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:03 pm

what the heck is your deal anyway, i make a comment on the fact that wright has been simply horrible at the plate lately and i’m a negative poster…give it a rest dude, or should i call you therealsince86???

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 8:01 pm

No one is allowed to say anything critical against David. He is having an outstanding season. He is allowed to have a bad 3 or 4 straight weeks.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Now we can look forward to some Wright defender chastising us because he leads the league in some convoluted stat no one has ever heard of.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:02 pm

He leads the league in leading off an inning after making a sparkling defensive play at third.

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 5, 2008 at 8:03 pm

like 5th in RBIs? How convoluted does it get?

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:04 pm

5th in RBIs with a bad RISP avg and not many of those being exactly timely. Didn’t say he wasn’t a very good player, just a tad overrated.

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:01 pm

they need to get out of this next half quick and change the mo of this game or this is only going to get worse. very important to get past the middle this inning. the way they are looking right now, they may not be able to afford to get behind too much tonight

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:02 pm

i think they’ll be ok. it’s only the 4th inning. the Mets still got some mo

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:04 pm

meant to add, at least it is only a small deficit to this point, but they are looking real real bad against myers tonight.

man, walk to howard. bad news

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:02 pm

manuel’s gotta sit david down and figure this out. extra BP or whatever but were gonna need david now more than ever

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:05 pm

agreed. while the team is rolling along to this point with him really struggling, they will go nowhere without him.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:04 pm

David will be all right. better he gets this out of his system and then has a torrid last three weeks.

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:05 pm

his saving grace is his great defense.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Not according to Mike Francessa, he says DWright is, and I quote, ‘Worst Defensive Third Baseman In Baseball.” End quote.

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

which is “the most moronic thing i have ever heard.” you can quote me if you want.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

LOL. I will. Same here. So stupid.

HOFMets57 September 5, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Pelfrey looks good. That’s very encouraging amidst our slumbering bats.

calderon September 5, 2008 at 8:05 pm

the thing with howard is that he was actually somewhat of a defensive prospect (in addition to his bat) in the minors…I’m not saying he’s not bad first baseman most of the time…it just doesn’t surprise me that much when he does make a good play

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:07 pm

i hear what you are saying…but i am still shocked. lol. that ball looked past him on the replay.

alright big pelf!!!!! now, get something started!!!!

teufelshuffle86 September 5, 2008 at 8:05 pm

I think it’s safe to say Burrell’s Met-killer status is in jeopardy.

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:06 pm

dont jinx it! PLEASE!

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

No, it isn’t. Burrell has the most career homers against the Mets of any player. More than Bonds, and more than Chipper.

I’d LOVE to agree with you, but he’s earned a lifetime of hate from us.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Very nice, Mike.

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

im just praying that this doesnt turn into one of those “we wasted a good start from our pitching” you guys know what im talking about

EV September 5, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Yea Big Pelf!!!!!!!!!

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:07 pm

pelf looking like santana on the mound with his defense…give that kid a gold glove!

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Wright was hitting as recently as Florida last weekend. Let him play his way through this. It’s not like we have some amazing 3B to play instead. His glove alone makes him our best 3B even if he’s an automatic out.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

who said they wanted David off the team? it would just be nice if the Mets golden boy could be golden in a big spot every once in awhile

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 8:09 pm

That was a response to all the “sit Wright” comments. One off day might help. But I think he generally needs to bat his way through this.

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 8:07 pm

So far, Pelf is holding up his end of the bargain. Offense needs to do their part…and soon…

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:12 pm

real soon. this is looking really bad to this point. they are only getting worse.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

Not according to Mike Francessa, he says DWright is, and I quote, ‘Worst Defensive Third Baseman In Baseball.” End quote.

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 8:09 pm

What a tool…

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Exactly.

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 8:10 pm

he should just eat himself

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:08 pm

way to totally lose all patience. that is a bad sign.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Come on, even the Philly fans booed Mike Schmidt. Who cares what he thinks?
‘The Mets know you are better than them’.

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Oh, and one other thing about Wright. All this “his RBIs aren’t timely” garbage has to stop. Yes, he’s been bad late in games.

But we’ve all (justifiably) complained about how the Mets’ offense shuts down in the 2nd half of games. Wright’s not hitting homers with the Mets up 6 in the 8th. He’s driving in runs early in the game.

Early runs are ALWAYS big runs.

darkstar73 September 5, 2008 at 8:11 pm

judging by the first 4 innings of this game, the season is officially over, go home Met fans, start freaking out, we suck.

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:11 pm

i am starting to really get concerned with this game. they are looking at strikes and swinging at balls, losing patience…just looking really really bad. they need to turn it around quick.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:11 pm

We’re in trouble cuz Myers pitch count cant be too high right now

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:15 pm

They are making Meyers look real good here

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 8:11 pm

jesus this is not good so far

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:13 pm

if would be easier to swallow if the Phils didn’t score the way they did. if the Mets lose 1-0 that would be unfortunate

calderon September 5, 2008 at 8:12 pm

what’s myers’ pitch count? he’s cruising right now…

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 8:13 pm

He’s at 61.

If my count is correct, 42 the first two innings, 19 pitches the last two…

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Ugh, so many strikeouts…

And so few pitches the last 2 innings for Myers…we were making him work in the first 2…now he’s cruising…

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Why can’t they hit this bum, it’s not like he’s throwing 99mph. Geeess.

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 8:13 pm

There’s a decent chance that we’ll lose this game. Just wanted to get that out of the way, before everyone gets too panicky. It won’t be the end of the world.

We also might win. If we do, yay!

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:14 pm

So you’re saying it’s 50/50?

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 8:38 pm

Everything’s 50/50. Either it’ll happen, or it won’t.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Pedro pitching the next game worries me if the Mets lost tonight

Dafatone80 September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Who is going for the female horses tomorrow? I know Sunday is Johan and Hamels.

Tomorrow’s probably going to be rained out too, for what that’s worth.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Moyer, but frankly, if Pedro is slightly off with his location, it doesn’t matter

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Can it start raining right now!!!!!

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:15 pm

as bad as it is right now, god, all they need are a few hits and a run on the board…..just get them already. maybe once they open the tap, the phillies won’t be able to shut it off

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

i meant to toss a “maybe” the phillies won’t be able to shut if off in there.

mrose September 5, 2008 at 8:15 pm

i’m only able to watch on gamecast but all these strikeouts ..ugh its killing me!!

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:15 pm

we need to get to myers, hes thrown alot of pitches and we are wasting all these goose eggs pelf is putting up! we are not known for scoring late so im worried

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:15 pm

If the Mets stay close, they will win. Not a jinx, just a probability.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

we need a solo shot

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:17 pm

couple of bloops, an error and a bomb. why not aim high? that said, i will take anything.

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 8:18 pm

I’d rather see ‘em string together some base hits…

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:19 pm

i agree, but i just want runs, i don’t truly care.

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

well, pelf is doing his job. wish he wasn’t getting the Santana treatment…

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

wifebeater exerted more energy running to first than his last two innings pitching combined

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Easy inning for Pelf there…

Lets make it a hard one for Myers in the bottom of the 5th…

EV September 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Yea Big Pelf!!!! Can we score some freaking runs please.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:17 pm

It’s a one run deficit. Mike is pitching good. As we’ve seen lately anything can happen in the later innings.

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:18 pm

agreed, it is just always better on the side with the one run lead…

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:17 pm

They have to win this game otherwise the Phils have a better chance of winning this series and I will start having flash backs of last year

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:18 pm

mentally, for us at least, it would be much better to win this one to start this series

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:18 pm

honestly, with myers pitch count i think one big hit or solo shot will open the flood gates. then we can light up the bullpen

mrose September 5, 2008 at 8:20 pm

dude, i know you said you are on gameday, but you do realize hes starting the 5th at around 60 pitches? nothing big about that count

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Where are all the Mets fans Shea sounds like a funeral

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:19 pm

If we lose 2 out of 3 its not the end of hte world…if we cant win games against other teams we arent making the playoffs either way

darkstar73 September 5, 2008 at 8:23 pm

wait, its not the end of the world? I thought for sure the season ended if we lost 2 of 3 and we wouldn’t even be allowed to play the rest of the games!

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:19 pm

this “September demons” crap is so overplayed. Last time I checked, Glavine is off the team, Delgado is an MVP candidate, and Willie is home scratching lottery cards right now

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 8:40 pm

**Castillo**

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Give Myers some credit here. Yea I hate him too but he’s been pitching like this for a while, it’s no fluke.

D-Day September 5, 2008 at 8:29 pm

NICE!!! KILLED THAT THREAT REAL QUICK!!!

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Relax. You guy’s think the Mets are out of this game? It’s 1-0. If we were winning 1-0, more people would be talking about good Pelfrey is doing. Jerry has to shake things up. You can’t allow Church to keep going up there. He’s struck out 10 out of 18 times in his career against Myers. Bring in Tatis even if he is righty. He always seems to do something. Bring in Easley. The lefty-righty things don’t matter when you aren’t hitting. Easley went like 4 for 5 in a game against the Phillies like two weeks ago.

Luis Castillo isn’t doing anything either. He takes strike three. He’ll do it again tonight. A close pitch is coming on a 2-2 or full count. He’ll get mad at the ump even though he should see it coming. The guy slaps at the ball. He has not one ounce of power from the left side of the plate. He steps in the bucket to the point that he cant even foul balls out of the infield.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:28 pm

HAHAHA!

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:28 pm

can’t you see a kid 30 years from now looking down a list of past MVP winners and wondering, “who the hell is Jimmy Rollins?”

Jimmy didn’t like Pelfrey’s body language after he picked him off

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:30 pm

oh, come on. myers, that would have been strike 3

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:30 pm

I might be in the minority but this game is extremely important from a Mets psyche persepctive. Last year all they needed was one win against the Phillies in their last series and they got swept.

Remember the Mets were playing extremely well prior to the series against the Phillies that began the 7 with 17. If they win today they will be even more relaxed the next two games and will give them that sentiment of we can beat this team late in the season.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Mets have to win 1 game and this series is essentially nullified. Of course, that’s not the first time I’ve said that in a Mets/Phillies series

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:32 pm

i agree to a point. if anything, it takes a load of pressure off of them, perhaps allowing them to go after the next two with a more clear head.

it would hurt for all of us either.

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Lets Score some runs please and can someone kidnap slappy after the game

My boy got something in the mail about having to give money for playoff tickets by September 15th.

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:31 pm

These kinds of games remind you why you want to get on top even if it’s a 1-0 game. I bet if the Mets were away in this game, they would have scored in the top of the 1st. They should have scored in the 2nd. You got a runner on second with no outs. They had a runner in scoring position the inning before. They got to play small ball. That means if Ryan Church has to bunt, he has to bunt. Egos go bye bye. That’s how your win games.

Gary Busey September 5, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Victorino’s face reminds me of Heffer from Rocko’s Modern Life.

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:33 pm

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Mets need to start trying to drag bunting and hitting and running now, Mets can’t wait around when they get a runner on base in this game, Myers is dealing.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:40 pm

how can you not LOVE this kid murphy???

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:40 pm

And Muph can actually slide feet first – successfully. Don’t see that too often from his team mates. A lot of fans of the head first slide….

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 8:40 pm

murph … see just hit the ball toward burrel, he has no idea where it’s going!! put the damn ball in play

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:41 pm

toss cholly too…and myers…and rollins…and victorino…and utley…and werth…and everybody dressed in red!

mrose September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

WHO GOT TOSSED??? come on, i’m watching gamecast here!

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:44 pm

dooby…the pitching coach for the girl horses

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:44 pm

i think that’s his name…probably wrong though

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:41 pm

big spot wright, here is your chance to silence everyone…

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Come on Wright

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Wright is becoming the A-Rod of the Mets

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

what a surprise!

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

typical ab by david

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:44 pm

if by typical, you mean poor. so it has been lately. hopefully, he turns it around or the season will be over soon enough

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Sigh….
Not a time for a big time slump, David.

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 8:48 pm

While you don’t want it to happen against the Phillies, it’s probably a perfect time for it. They’ve got a lead, and when he breaks out of it, he’ll be good to go for the next 5-7 weeks.

mrose September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

how did a pitching coach get tossed??

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Wright defenders…?

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Oh for goodness sakes Wright.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Jesus Wright!!!!! Come on!!!!

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Im surprised Wrights .238 with RISP…seems more like .138

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 8:43 pm

boy oh boy oh boy

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Wright is seriously the only thing keeping the Mets from having a huge winning streak right now

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:46 pm

this is very true

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Wright is saving it for a walk-off.

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:44 pm

here comes the k

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:44 pm

curveball, strike 3

if they ejected manuel, the phils would bring lidge in in the 9th instead of seanez

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:45 pm

I take it back my church is louder then Shea

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:45 pm

96 pitches for myers

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Nice take Delgado Let’s get a hit!

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Boy it would s…ck to lose on an un-earned run.

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 8:45 pm

This is F***ing rediculous now….they cant score a run..murph is the only one who can hit…the guys making millions of dollars arent hitting and the man making barely anything is doing all the hitting

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:45 pm

it’s getting to the point now, where if Wright somehow won the MVP, I’d write in to protest.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Phhht.

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Pelfrey is gunna throw a complete game 8 inning loss allowing 0 earned runs

mrose September 5, 2008 at 8:47 pm

psssst they are at home, no complete game 8 inning games here! Thanks!

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 8:49 pm

o my fault i got confused thanks

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 8:47 pm

96 pitches for myers through 6

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:47 pm

It’s okay. Everyone knows something, right? The 8th inning is a haunted inning to the Phillies. If we can get Brett Myers out of there before Brad Lidge comes into the game, we’ll have them beat. Give up J.C. Romero or who ever. Anyone know what his pitch count is?

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 8:47 pm

I really hope someone is speaking to David. I gotta believe he’s working on this. I think he’s just getting anxious in tight situations. A bloop single scores a run there. No need for a HR.

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:49 pm

it just doesn’t LOOK like it, but you have to tink so

EV September 5, 2008 at 8:47 pm

This freaking sucks.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Wright MVP? Most valuable P…….usy. Sorry David, Don’t really mean that.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Mets either score a run or the Phillies tack on, this game CAN NOT end 1-0 because of Reyes’ brain fart

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Keep it right here Pelfrey

skylog September 5, 2008 at 8:48 pm

i’m out. hopefully, my leaving here will change the karma. this game is theirs, they just need to take it already

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 8:49 pm

this is a pathetic offensive effort. just terrible

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Give the pitcher some credit man.

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:49 pm

the question is if the mets will finally break through against the phillies bullpen

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:50 pm

they have to face the bullpen first

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:51 pm

myers has 96 pitcher already

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:51 pm

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 8:50 pm

here comes the 2 run homer by burrell

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 8:50 pm

This is how the game is going to play out Pelf or the bullpen will give up a few more runs and the Mets lose 5-0 I hope I am wrong

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:50 pm

It’s only one run. That’s where we need to keep it. Scoring more than one will be a challenge. They can score one and keep this game going. They got last licks. That’s the advantage of being home. It’s not like the Phillies have done much with the bats since the 1st either.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:52 pm

I’m with you. If we’ve learned anything as Met fans, it’s you cannot predict how any of these games will end. Some come down to the last pitch…..

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 8:50 pm

i can’t believe this. i mean 3 doubles with <2 outs and NOBODY comes close to scoring!!

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Can we get Tatis in the game….please

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 8:51 pm

This game couldn’t be anymore frustrating.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Help the Mets for once Burrel, hit into a doubleplay

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Why is it so impossible for Jerry Manuel to consider the idea of taking David Wright out of the 3 hole? I don’t get it. Because the Mets are winning? I guess that’s somewhat of a reason but it doesn’t mean we can’t score more. Beltran used to hit 3rd. He’s turned it on. Delgado’s been doing well. I don’t get it. Maybe a day off soon? Give Tatis a start at third?

BLUEXORANGE September 5, 2008 at 8:52 pm

hey…listen everyone..i know wright has had a great season. but knowone has even mentioned what he did with his swing. does everyone remember when he use to just roll over his ankle when he took his swing….his leg kick i think is whats killing him..he went the other way naturally in 06and part of 07 and even though hes having a great year now hes still not hitting the other way for any power at all which he use to do a lot in 06…not one person said anything about this..maybe its just me but i think he just ruined his swing. people say that players as they get older learn to pull…well wright learned to pull a little to much ..he needs to become that all around hitter like he use to be. but you guys prob don’t agree with me…just a though….

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Just get Church and Castillo out of there. Church isn’t going to figure out Brett and Luis would step in dog crap if you placed three feet away from his right foot when he swings. Even if he struck out.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:53 pm

I don’t want to see Werth up with two men on.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 8:54 pm

I was thinking the other day that i cant remember the last time Wrights hit an opposite field HR

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:54 pm

probably around the same time he got a hit worth a sht

BLUEXORANGE September 5, 2008 at 8:58 pm

read my comment …..atleast you kinda agree with me sort of

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Finally. Pelf won that battle.

bkfitz September 5, 2008 at 8:54 pm

If this game ends this way, the goat of the game is Brian Schneider. Best defensive catcher since Jerry Grote my rear-end.

911nafstem September 5, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Reyes should have had it

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:55 pm

I think us Mets fans just get heated and look for a scapegoat. One guy to blame everything on. It used to be Delgado when he couldn’t do anything. For a while it was Beltran because how ”not clutch” he is. Wright wasn’t doing that great either at the time. Than Beltran turns it up and Wright’s the man to blame.

We are on a 4 game winning streak guys. We’ve won 6 out of 7. In that game when we beat the Marlins on Beltran’s grand slam Wright got a base hit with 2 outs to keep the inning going. Could he really be that bad?

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 8:56 pm

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:56 pm

No. He’s just struggling big time lately with RISP.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Atta’ boy Pelf!

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:56 pm

Even if Reyes had it, it’d be 0-0. Eventually the bullpens will be the one’s controlling the game. It’ll probably be when a bunch of runs are scored on both sides. Let’s get over it. For a while on the second game of that series I didn’t think they had a shot. But out of no where Delgado hit two home runs. I knew they’d win the game even when it was tied.

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 8:58 pm

You got to score to win. 0-0 is as good as 1-0 if you can’t get it together. This isn’t the NFL where you can tie. Phillies bullpen versus Mets pen – even when they’re showing progress? You make the pick. They got Lidge. We got Ayala.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 8:58 pm

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

gotta pinch hit for scheider and pitcher if it comes to it in this inning.

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 9:06 pm

CASTILLO IS A JOKE

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

bad thing is, if the mets lose, we’ll have to sit on it for 2 days, since tomorrow will be a rainout. that sucks. it’s so much better after a loss when in just a few hours they are back on the field to hopefully redeem themselves. not gonna happen tomorrow though. we can only hope they split on sunday.

mackey September 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

and so the choke begins…………

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

That HR was like a kick in the stomach. Why does Dobbs kill this team? He’s a reserve yet he has like 5 HRs vs. us in the past two seasons.

BLUEXORANGE September 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

well…according to this years history, we shouldn’t worry because if we lose we will just bounce back tomorrow…..hopefully Pedro wont die on the mound or something

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

So it’s September 07 all over again because of one game? I suppose that is what was said last Monday too when the Mets lost after being up 7-0. The Mets were never winning this game. They were never in command. They should have had that game wrapped up last Monday. But look – we won 6 out of 7 since than.

The Phillies will probably win this game. It’s not over, but not looking good. The 8th is the 8th for the Phils though. If we win one out of two, we would have only lost one game in this series. That’s not that bad. We’d still be 7 out of 10. If they lose tonight, tomorrow is a must win. I don’t know what’s going on with Pedro but I don’t want to see Jon Niese throw in this series. Maybe the extra day off will help.

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 9:04 pm

stop with the F#%#%# pop outs!!!

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:04 pm

I really hate the Phils more then anyother team they act like they won a few World series

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:04 pm

When did the Phillies sign Sandy Koufax?

mackey September 5, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Reyes and Castillo set the tone by making no effort on the bad throw in the first. way to go guys. that’s the way to play in a big game. can’t wait to see the rest of this month.

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Even if we lose the game, here’s a positive way of looking at it. The Phillies lost 2 out of 3 to Washington. What good team is supposed to do that? That game was a gift to the Mets. I’m not sold on believing this one is over yet though so I’ll save that thought for a couple hours from now.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Im sick and tired of seeing people tlaking about playoffs and how well we are playing one game during a 3 game winning streak and then hte next game down 3-0 to the phillies on our way to 1 single loss and seeing people saying how the seasons over…im sick of it….its 1 game and the game isnt even over yet..if you’re gonna say how the mets are chokers and the seasons over…DONT post anything positive about them when they win a game

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:06 pm

how many times is castillo gonna watch strike 3?….

EV September 5, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Can we please bench this piece of crap Slappy Castillo, I ‘m tired of watching him suck.

Jefferies 9 September 5, 2008 at 9:07 pm

Where are the Castillo defenders tonight?

SantanaCYYOung September 5, 2008 at 9:07 pm

one win is all they need and santana is the difference from last year, but hamels is going that game too.

have the mets come back from a 3 run deficit all year?

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:07 pm

How can a MLB player go down looking 3x in one game? I don’t care about his high OBP, or his history of doing well…he is downright bad and he is the definition of the word cooler. Even if they can’t trade him, I would just waive him and eat his salary. Getting nothing is better than his presence on this team.

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 9:07 pm

why does castillo bring a bat??? all he does is hope for the walk. i called this when lineups were announced. easley is batting .455 against this guy, while castillo is batting .176. i love manuel, but this was a bonehead call all the way.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:07 pm

That was just horrible. Mets will have to hope Pedro is up for the task on saturday or sunday.

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:07 pm

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:08 pm

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:11 pm

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:08 pm

he really does blow…for real, they need to never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever play him again. i mean, keep the a reyes/easley platoon. forget this bum castillo.

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:08 pm

“Oh, but he’s a terrific bunter!” No, he is not. Maybe he was 5 years, 30 lbs and 2 healthy knees ago, but he is downright bad at that too. He’s terrible and needs to go.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:08 pm

I almost miss how Slappy would at least slap the ball harmessly to second or short. Better than striking out every single FREAKIN TIME!!!!!!

EV September 5, 2008 at 9:09 pm

What a shame that Pelfrey is going to lose this game. Gives up 2 earned runs.

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 9:12 pm

shouldn’t be two runs … i could’ve caught that ball dobbs hit

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:11 pm

What did slappy every do for Omar to give him a 4 yr contract?

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:13 pm

The only guy who could answer that is Omar and he’s never explained why. Probably because he’s getting some sort of kick back or his agent is his secret lover.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:13 pm

I would tell you but I would almost for sure get banned from this site.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:11 pm

OK Guys, thanks to khmustache we have a new tag name for Castillo………………

Slappy McWatchy

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Castillo in no way is a good bunter. I remember the Mets got much better production out of Endy Chavez as a 2 hitter for a couple months than they could with Luis.

Every game separates two in the column so these next two games are big. You have to mentally approach it like the last series in Philly that was a 2 game set. I’m very happy that was only a 2 game set. The Phillies may have won the third one. I know beating up on Washington’s always awesome, but playing them in a 2 game set isn’t such a bad thing either next week. The less games, the less time you give a team to figure it out.

The main focus was don’t come out worse than you came in. Unfortunately, that may not happen. One game at a time and by the end of the series the Mets could be up 4 games. It’s all about confidence. Look at what we did to Moyer last time.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:13 pm

i really hate victorino…almost as much as I hate larry… his ugly mug makes me sick!

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Can’t be any uglier than Castillo’s mug.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:15 pm

yeah, that’s true

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:16 pm

totally 10000000000% agree….disney would draw him as a weasel

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 9:16 pm

i hate him much worse than larry. at least larry is a future HOFer. this guy is an annoying little pest, like eckstein, but with an attitude much bigger than his play should allow. he blows.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:18 pm

come on though, you CAN’T hate him more than larry…

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:22 pm

it helps that the braves suck….he might hit .500 at shea now, but the braves aren’t gonna win. i think his point was that larry killed the mets and acted like it. victorino had one good game against the mets and he acts like he owns shea. the kid is a punk and larry is a ball player…with bad teeth and illegitamete children of course

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:23 pm

i can’t spell..i know

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:15 pm

I don’t understand why it’s hard for people to believe Damion Easley is just purely better than Luis. It doesn’t matter against lefty or righty. Weren’t we rolling with a combo of Damion and Argenis? They don’t need this guy.

Slappy the Plague. He’s not worth having. He’s a problem no matter where he is in the line up. I don’t understand why Damion just can’t start the majority of the games. He gets it done. Murphy’s an idea at 2B, but why not Tatis? Valentin can do it, but he can’t? They’re both natural IF.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Castillo gets a hit once a week if the Mets are lucky and his bad knees make him just about worthless to the Mets. At this stage of his career he is a bench player but won’t sit because of how much he gets paid and what he has done 5 or so years ago. He’s not going to get younger.

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Marlon Anderson on deck….waving the white flag I guess?

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:17 pm

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:17 pm

FlightFromHouston September 5, 2008 at 9:20 pm

is wright going to have a reyes’ 07 type september?

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:20 pm

nice swing reyes…tonight looks eerily similar to the sept. 07′ mets. that’s not good! and i know many factors go into this sort of thing, but i have to say…castillo back=lack of fire. something about him that has changed this team. please, Jerry, just bench this turd!

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:23 pm

watch the movie The Cooler with William H. Macey and you’ll understand Castillo’s effect. Granted, Mets have played very well recently but sometimes it takes a while for the bad luck to rub off.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:25 pm

ya know, you really are right. i’ve seen that movie, and castillo truly is the cooler. no kidding. damn jerry, see this movie already and bench the guy!

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:21 pm

What worries me is that tomorrow’s game is definitely going to be rained out. It’s tough winning both games of a day-night DH.

ReyesMets September 5, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Guys,

We’ve run into a VERY filthy in a great groove tonight…it happens…

No need for Mets fans to call their therapists…

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Hate to harp on it (no I don’t) but today’s peformance by Castillo should warrant a permanent seat on the bench. I don’t care if some of those calls were questionable. He needs to swing the bat with two strikes on anything close. Granted, he wouldn’t hit it out of the infield, but still. He has earned himself a spot as the very last (as in when Mets have a huge lead) hitter on the bench.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Agree.

rM teM September 5, 2008 at 9:21 pm

who the heck is this guy???

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:22 pm

guys we have Murphy Wright Beltran in the 9th…we are winning this game

garfios September 5, 2008 at 9:33 pm

I hope u r right, cuz Wright is been pressing way too much, as it is right now, I don’t want to see him hitting with the game on the line, he is pulling too much, and forgot that the field has center and right field, every year he has became more of a pull hitter. He is my favorite player but he has to go back to the 2006-07 approach.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:22 pm

Rincon needs a 1,2, 3 inning Mets are going to have a tough time as it is.

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:22 pm

I have two words for that washed up has been Luis Castillo…….ready..here it goes…….ROBERTO ALOMAR!!! nuff said

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:24 pm

at least alomar, despite his awfulness with the mets, is a borderline hall of famer. Castillo shouldn’t be allowed near Cooperstown.

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:23 pm

One Day Slappy is going to get a slap hit and we will all be sorry when he does

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:24 pm

I agree. One day he will get a slap hit.

Then a week later he’ll get another…

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:24 pm

I guess we’ll have to wait until next week for Castillo to get a hit.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:24 pm

He’s going to need to break Joe DiMagio’s 56 game hitting streak to get me to like him! LOL

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Castillo has Roberto Alomar written all over him…switch hitting second baseman that comes to the Mets and is all washed up…maybe the White Sox will take Castillo off of our hands like they did Alomar

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:26 pm

you know i totally forgot what happend to that guy…i have tried very hard to erase him completely from my memory

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:26 pm

At least Alomar could hit the ball to the OF once in a while, this bum needs to hit the ball three times to get it out that far.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Rincon’s nastyyyyy. where has he been all this year

rM teM September 5, 2008 at 9:26 pm

come on. nobody’s as bad as alomar.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:26 pm

That is a very nice slider by Rincon.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:29 pm

Ok, someone needs to tell the Mets Myers is out of the game, it’s ok to come out and hit. Lidge is no scrub but they have to figure out a way to hit him somehow.

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:29 pm

funny how it’s been like a half hour and we are still dogging on castillo…please bench him jerry

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:30 pm

We can reach 1000 plus posts just on Castillo alone.

X-Man September 5, 2008 at 9:31 pm

I will dog him until he’s finally off this team. I will be relentless and will not stop until he’s gone. It’s my new mission in life.

Just kidding. LOL

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:29 pm

Mets bullpen shining

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Can we officially make Rincon our setup guy over Shoenwies, Heilman, and Feliciano

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:30 pm

lets not get crazy now…

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:30 pm

Can we score 4 ????? I want to see slappy at bat agian tonight that would mean good things

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Wow, I’m surprised the Padres scored one off of Sabathia.

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:34 pm

yost will protest it

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Alright let’s get this thing started!

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Here we go

LETS GO METS!

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Did this team even pay attention to what Myers has been saying about them the past few years about how much he hates the Mets and loves to beat them??……that should be motivation enough to beat this scumbag all over the yard…apparently, they allowed for that to go by the wayside

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Can we pinch hit Tatis for Wright

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:33 pm

i said it earlier in the game, but the amount of chin beards on the fillies is ridiculous

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:34 pm

earth to jerry…argenis and easley for the remaining 21 games

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 9:35 pm

You do realize if the Phillies hold on and win this game, they won the first game of all six series between the two teams this season. To this point, the Mets have won all the other games.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 9:36 pm

No, didn’t realize it but I’ll take 2 out of 3 in this series!

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Good at bat by Murphy yet again.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:35 pm

BIG pitch here

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:37 pm

ugly

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Try something new Wright, stop chasing a pitch!

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:37 pm

helluva an AB by Murphy…even if it was an out

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:38 pm

finally….lets go mets…get him home

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:38 pm

alright Wright!

C’mon Beltran!

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:39 pm

or Delgado!

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 9:38 pm

interesting route there, shane

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:39 pm

that was a HUGE mistake by lidge. anything away and wright is gone.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Take those pitches Delgado!

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:39 pm

I’m afraid to watch…..

ReyesMets September 5, 2008 at 9:40 pm

Another huge hit for Beltran, perhaps?

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:41 pm

YESSSS!!!! And Beltran is as hot as it gets!

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:41 pm

nice job Delgado!

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Come on Beltran!!

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:43 pm

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:44 pm

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:44 pm

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:45 pm

METS!

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:45 pm

damnit

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 9:45 pm

I’m just waiting for some idiot to come on and complain about how Beltran never comes up big.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:46 pm

Beltran doesnt come up big….is that not true?

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 9:48 pm

Either you’re being sarcastic or you missed his ninth inning two out Grand Slam last weekend in Florida.

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:50 pm

So Beltran gets 1 clutch base hit and 30 failures hes somehow clutch? You’re ridiculous….he also just swung at ball 4 which is worse than making an out on a strike

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 9:58 pm

I forgot. To Met fans, you’re a failure if you don’t come through 100 percent of the time. Nevermind, he came up big for the Mets all over the last road trip at the plate and in the field. Baseball is a game where as a hitter you’re a success if you fail 70 percent of the time.

MetsFan4Decades September 5, 2008 at 9:45 pm

DAMN !!

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:46 pm

victorino, that c*nt

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:46 pm

sit church too while we are it….they were better without him and castillo in the lineup…and when did Lidge become Eric Gagne circa 2004?

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:48 pm

yes, sit church….he hasn’t hit any grand slams or anything lately.

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Wasn’t like it was a line drive to the deepest part of the ballpark that almost got over Victorino’s head.

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Victorino catches everything in this park…..he gets good reads and runs hard after everything…still think he’s a prick though

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:50 pm

wow..he has one good hit…..other than that what has he done since he came back???….nothing..nada zero zilch…..they won without him and castillo….don’t need him now either

khmustache September 5, 2008 at 9:46 pm

crap….tough game…wife beater pitched out of his mind…pelfrey looked good as well….hope the offense shows up tomorrow (or sunday)….

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:47 pm

that was ball 4 on beltran but oh well…we made it exciting.

Steviefan84 September 5, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Meh, Mets did hit Lidge, Mets need to go get em’ tomorrow or sunday.

EV September 5, 2008 at 9:47 pm

This Blows.

el_giacomo September 5, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Gameday sucks. Originally said Beltran hit a sac fly, scoring Wright. Now it doesn’t appear that way? Thought we avoided the shutout, but I guess not.

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:48 pm

I hate the Phillies aleats when the Braves were good they had all-stars this Phil team is nothing great

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:49 pm

horrible hitting all the way around..they better hope to high hell that they win tomorrow because there is no way this offense is even gonna touch Cole Hamels, since they just got shut out by Myers

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Mets need to throw this one away….hopefully Pedro has his A Game and hopefully..hopefully Wright can build on his double…..

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:50 pm

i hate the phillies, but coste is a sharp guy. speaks like a manager would speak…future career??

Clutch September 5, 2008 at 9:52 pm

who cares

smm140 September 5, 2008 at 9:55 pm

for real

miker94 September 5, 2008 at 9:56 pm

yeah, you’re right

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Probably won’t be a game tomorrow. Day/night DH Sunday. In a way, as long as they don’t get swept, it’s not a disaster.

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:53 pm

I know this is a little bit of outside thinking but I think the psyche of this game was that we didn’t have to win. I honestly believe if the Mets were up either one or two, they would have made a more respectable effort in this game. The reason is because in this three game set, it’s impossible for the Phillies to get ahead of the Mets. They can tie us. I give credit to Brett because he threw a good game, but this team just didn’t cash on it’s chances. Holding a team to three runs isn’t bad. Pelfrey gave us a quality start.

The Mets are more than able to touch Moyer. They’ll score a couple on Hamels. The Phillies will have trouble with Johan. All we need is one game. If we are to get one I really hope it’s tomorrow because it gives us a better chance on Sunday. Plus it takes the pressure off. Back to back losses can leave a sting.

losmets5 September 5, 2008 at 9:54 pm

I ssay a Day/night sweep of the phils. Do like you’ve done every series when thr Phils take the 1st game, boys!

WrightsRight September 5, 2008 at 9:55 pm

I really hate Dobbs…I still have nightmares of that Grand Slam he hit last year at this time during that horrible 5 or 6 error game. I am still optimistic things will turn out well this season, but I really hope this isn’t Dobbs coming back to haunt us again……his grand slam was the start of that sept. swoon….

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 9:57 pm

We’re still 10-6 on this team for the season. A big chance from last season. It’s the reason why we’re ahead. If we had been 8-8, it’d be a tied division. People say what does one game really matter? That game in Pittsburgh we were up 5-0 in the 7th and lost mattered. The game against the Phillies that we were up 5-2 with the bases loaded mattered. So did that one last Monday that we were up 5-0. And what about that 2-0 game when two guys slid into Ramon at the same time that we lost in extra innings thanks to Billy? Out of those 4, if they could have even won one against Philly out of the two and one of those other two – we’d be up 5 games.

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 10:04 pm

To play Devil’s Advocate, they’ve also pulled some games out as of late that I’m sure most of us thought were losees. 2 or 3 on the last road trip alone. (One in each city)

Airfeet September 5, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Beltran should have known better to have swung at a 3-1 slider out of the zone…Lidge knew Beltran was thinking 3-1 fat fastball and was gonna swing for the homer…and simply outsmarted Carlos and threw him offspeed down in hte count…ridiculous

Metfreak September 5, 2008 at 9:58 pm

I hope it does not rain on Saturday but maybe an extra day for Pedro can help we need to win 1 game

cousinrk September 5, 2008 at 9:58 pm

Hey this might be the first loss they’ve had in a month that didn’t involve blowing a lead. You get beat by a guy on his game, I can live with it. Its just a shame they didn’t catch any breaks int he ninth because they were on Lidge big time. It would have been perfect to give Lidge his first blown save and demoralize the phils in the process. Oh well, go get them on Sunday

nyj0126 September 5, 2008 at 10:01 pm

Exactly. This game was simply the Phillies. A legit loss feels so much better than a punch in the stomach. Than again, the punch in the stomach gets our feet moving. Here is how I see it. The Mets do have there share of games against the Cubs coming up, but next week says a lot. The Mets are off 2 days next week. They play 2 against the Nats and 3 against the Braves at home. The Phillies are home too although with no days off and get the Marlins for 3 and Brewers for 4.

Let’s say the Mets win one of the next two. I think it’s realistic. Of those 5 next week, I think the Mets can pull of 4. I’ll say the Phillies split with Milwaukee. Even if they take 2 out of 3 against the Marlins, the Mets would be up 3 on the division.

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 10:05 pm

its as simple as this….brett meyers has been very good lately…tonight he was fantastic…and u can tell it wasnt the mets offense because the bats came alive when they changed pitchers with lidge…if the mets scored 4 or 5 runs, pelf would be talked about a lot more..he pitched a great game too.

As much as this game does matter, we need to win at least one of the next 2 games.

win 1 game = 2 games up
win both games = 4 game lead
lose both = tied

That is why it is very important to win at least 1 game

kd bart September 5, 2008 at 10:07 pm

They were all over Lidge tonight and also the last time they faced him in Philly last week. He didn’t get the loss or a blown save that time because he entered with the winning run on base in a tie game but they did hit him hard.

danlx13 September 5, 2008 at 10:15 pm

i also dont think his slider is as sharp as it was toward the beginning of the season…his slider is his main pitch and it just seems like it hasnt had that mush break on it the last couple of weeks

Ceetar September 5, 2008 at 6:40 pm

He had a couple of stolen bases early in the season even with injury-recovering knees. Either way, he gets on base, and the best way to convert that into runs is to drive him in..Pelfrey and Schneider aren’t very likely to do so.

maybealittlemoredelgado September 5, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Id pull a Larussa and bat Castillo 9th, Pelfrey 8th.
