I am upset with myself for not having known this existed until now, but a reader sent in this video of “Chocolate Strawberry”; a rap song featuring Darryl Strawberry.
The video is lacking, but the lyrics don’t disappoint.
If interested, you can read the lyrics here.

“My name is Darryl, I’m a baseball player.”
I’m glad he clarified that for us.
By the way, my brother actually had this record. I can still picture the cover.
“Strike One, Strike two, but No Strike Three” and “I need to get paid on my day off” – pure talent I tell ya. Great great stuff.
Lookin’ for 3rd base, YO, I stole it!
That’s right
I took it while you wasn’t lookin’
I think I just had a religious experience listening to that.
Amen, brother. I’ll have to check the wikipedia, but I believe that feeling is known as “mysterium tremendum et fascinans.”
We had this record growing up, and I have NO idea why!
“I even get paid on my days off.” Best line.
We really need to get this song voted in the next time David Wright lets the fans pick his entrance song
Don’t forget this song also features Richie Rich, UTFO, and Whistle.
Gots to give props where props is due.
I even get paid on my days off.
Yes, it is certainly nice to have a salaried position with paid vacation.
I remember this song being the centerpiece of an SI article on the Mets early in the 1987 season. It focused on how disjointed the team was and how badly they were playing, and it was paired with an article on how well the Don Mattingly-led Yankees were playing at the same time. Cover said “Mets are Feuding, Yanks are Flying.”
Don’t ask me how I remember crap like this.
Google has a way of improving everyone’s memory.
You can find the article in the SI dot com Vault.
Didn’t Straw miss the game the same day he recorded this, saying he had “stomach flu?” I’d gladly let him sit if music like this was the result.
Matt, you need to correct this, Run DMC has absolutely nothing to do with this track at all! Richie Rich and the Kangol Kid sampled one line from a DMC song that is all. The song was written by Richie Rich and the Kangol Kid and features UTFO and Whistle. You can find the album details at Westcoast Pioneers (Strawsome Records and Macola Record Company).
Noted and changed. However, they do sample RUN DMC.
