    Wow……

  2. CitizenSnips says:

    *cue the Myers jokes*

  3. ToastyJoe says:

Just heard a follow-up report that his girlfriend was actually Brett Myers’ wife.

  4. kowalski69 says:

He and Brett Myers were having sapphire Martini’s at the Pines across from Shea right before the incident.

    BY THE WAY

After the last regular season game at Shea we’re all going to the PIne for postgame!

  5. pedro4545 says:

    He bit her?

  6. therealsince86 says:

Quick trade him to Philly while he is at peak value.

  7. Prismo says:

Citing a source close to both parties, Burgos was quoted as exclaiming “But Brett hit me first!” as he was cuffed by the police.

  8. CaseStreet says:

Starts the year with his $30K worth of jewelry stolen from the hotel at ST and now ends the year getting arrested for beating his girlfriend. Not the best of years. This guy has to grow up and make some better decisions.

  9. Nate W. says:

Well the bullpen hadnt done that yet this year so theres a new low point…

Burgos is arbitration eligable this coming off season, should they even bother letting him come back after this?

  10. GravediggerHebner says:

Concern for the (alleged?) victim aside for a moment, I lament the one less thing to chide Phillie fans about. Luckily so many other things remain.

    • gomets6091 says:

yea, but this guy’s not on our active roster, nor will he be our #2 pitcher and one of the more visible members of the clubhouse. I say it’s still fine to deride Phillies fans for cheering on Brett Myers.

      • mookstra says:

not the same thing…this punk will probably (hopefully) never see the mound while wearing a met uniform again…..philly is relying on Myers

    • Gland says:

I thought the same thing myself. Luckily, there is still hope in that regard; if the Mets just cut him rather than keep him like the Phillies kept Myers, we can still feel morally superior.

It’s the right thing to do.

  11. guierllNO MOta says:

but did he damage his surgically repaired elbow while biting her? dont think so…smart thinking Mr. Burgos

In all seriousness, if this is true cut him and lambaste him in public, no place in sports for a guy like this…or the one who shut out the Mets on friday…

  12. zen says:

    cut him. now.

    at least bannister sucks.

    • therealsince86 says:

Exactly, the only good thing about that trade is now we should not have to see either of them.

  13. I heard a report that his girlfriend was telling him that Bannister is better.

  14. Flushing_is_Burning says:

of all people, Brett Myers is his role model

  15. Dirtysanchez says:

Dammit fire omar..he should have known this was going to happen…

  16. LongJohnMaine says:

    Dear Omar,

    Dump this moron ASAP.

    Sincerely,

    Mets Fans

  17. I don’t expect all athletes to be role models but this is just disgusting.

  18. SheaGoodbye says:

Hey- was wondering if anyone knows the process on how to get tickets to the bleachers? want to show up there once before they close down

  19. fyffem says:

    excellent!!!!

  20. Drobstad says:

I heard he threw a 100 MPH fastball at her too but missed because he has no control

  21. The comments on the Daily News link are absolutely disturbing as well:

    From FlyRomeo3:

“In most cases you know how women get during arguments. Many times I’ve seen women yelling, screaming, degrading their “man” in public knowing that perhaps their boyfriend/husband wont hit them. Maybe he just needed to put his women in her place.”

    • ToastyJoe says:

You expected better? The people who post comments on Daily News articles have the approximate IQ of toenail fungus.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

You have got to be kidding. Talk about being jaded…..

I don’t care what name calling she was doing in public. Unless he was defending himself from her beating at him, there is no excuse for not being able to hold your temper in that situation. Walk away, dude….

    • “…to put his women in her place.”

I wonder if FlyRomeo was implying that Burgos had many women (notice the plural usage up top). It is possible that Romeo is just a moron.

  22. gomets6091 says:

Since he knew he wasn’t gonna be on the big league roster again this year, this was probably just his attempt to fit in with the rest of the relievers so they’d accept him back next year: he knew he had to give up some big hits…

  23. MetsFan4Decades says:

Wow – if this is true – truly an idiot.

  24. lewchr says:

Release this piece of trash. The Wilpon’s should want none of this in their organization.

  25. ExileInLA says:

He’s not worth keeping. Cut him. Don’t disgrace the Mets name with people like that.

  26. BernazardSucks says:

I agree what he did was disgusting, but it’s funny how perceptions change depending on how important the player is. Do any one of you for a second think that if Mike Pelfrey did this same thing last night that he would be released by the team? Let me help you: not a shot. It’s easy for an organization to take the ‘moral high ground’ when its a fringe player. I doubt the mets would have dumped Brett Myers if they were in the same situation as the Phils were.

    • Observer says:

You make a good point, but look at the case of Manny Ramirez. He pushed a 64-year-old team employee to the ground and was soon gone. Of course, he was traded, not released.

      • BernazardSucks says:

Manny was traded for several reasons. Sure he was/is a great hitter, but his age (36) combined with his apparent “dogging it” in order to get the team to drop his option in order to get one final payday (4 yrs-$100m) were the main culprits. I sincerely doubt that the Sox jettisoned Manny ‘mainly’ because he shoved a clubhouse employee.

    • the clap says:

The world’s not fair, but if you want to play hypotheticals, then imagine if this was you or me of any Joe Nobody who can’t throw a baseball 100 mph. Burgos is the guy who’ll be getting off relatively lightly by the criminal justice system and who’ll undoubtedly be getting future major league chances by any number of teams. No need to feel sorry for him in any way. In the whole scheme of things, he’s the gifted and favored one in this society and world.

      • BernazardSucks says:

Trust me, I feel no pity for Burgos. I’m just saying how all teams like to use the ‘moral high ground’ as a reason for releasing fringe players who commit off-the-field indiscretions, but somehow are able to look the other way when the player is an integral cog to the team’s success. Just more than a little bit hypocritical, IMO.

  27. zen says:

trade him to the 4th place yankees.

  28. CitizenSnips says:

If for some reason I know he’d help us to a championship I’d keep him.

  29. DAG says:

Mets should trade him to the Phillies where he can form a 1-2 punch with Brett Myers.

  30. toomanyuniforms says:

Done. Off the team. I don’t want to hear about him ever again. Period.

  31. rogasm says:

I bet she pronounced his name wrong and he went off.

  32. Tina says:

I have a firm belief — and used to always rely on it in my anti-Benitez diatribes — that pitching is about control, and there is no real separation between what a person is in his life and what he is on the mound. If you can’t master yourself in life, you can’t master yourself on the mound. Cut him.

    • Tina says:

Hah, now I’m laughing at myself, a little, because that Myers performance was just a few days ago. So I guess there is redemption. Still, I absolutely believe it’s about self-mastery. He needs to man up about it, or be gone.

  33. Seriously, what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

    • Well, the dental records haven’t come back yet, so I guess there is no proof that he bit her.

I can totally see this story taking on a life of its own. Can’t you see Peter Gammons reporting live from the Jackson Hole Diner, saying how Omar Minaya has fostered a culture of disrespect to women…pointing to L-Millz (of “Bend Ya Kneez” fame) as a prime example.

    • starz31 says:

      the media was created

    • nyr2k2 says:

THANK YOU! People are so quick to judge and execute. What would these same people be thinking if they were falsely accused?

    • toomanyuniforms says:

It goes without saying that he should get a fair trial before serving any jail time, but hiring and firing decisions need not use that strict standard. The Mets don’t need full judicial process to jettison a guy for being an a-hole. They merely need to abide by what’s in the contract and the CBA, and that’s it.

  34. Justin4383 says:

If his punches were that hard, why can’t he pitch?

  35. remaxajf says:

I agree Justin, wwould rather have him out there on the mound throwing punches then Pedro throwing pitches.

Where was this guy during the Miguel Olivo brawl last year?

  36. stephenhawkingsoundmachine says:

The fact that the majority of comments are lamenting the loss of Burgos or making light of domestic violence against women is pathetic. Burgos should be cut immediately and hopefully his work visa revoked indefinetely.

The intellect of the comments on this blog are laughable.

  37. Gina says:

So does this mean we can cross him off the list of possible closers next year?

  38. jscand says:

Not defending him at all, but for everyone that says they should cut him right away…have you heard of Ramon Castro?

    • nyr2k2 says:

You mean when he was charged with rape, and pleaded no contest to reduced charges? No, no one remembers that. Selective memory around here.

  39. castilloiscrap says:

Brett Myers #2! And what did Castro do?
