What’s with batting Beltran 4 and Delgado 5? I like them reversed. Could be that Jerry is trying to get Beltran more fastballs and give Delgado an opportunity to drive in more runs. If that’s the case, then I say bat Beltran 2nd.

  2. Ceetar says:

I’ve had enough with Easley..haven’t we realized that when you play him every day, he gets very very exposed?

    • 0h the ag0ny says:

youd rather CASTILLO? god bless you =]

      • Ceetar says:

        Bigger upside.

        • 0h the ag0ny says:

          jesus your joking?

        • Ceetar says:

Easley is average at best. He has spurts, and is best suited to the bench.

Castillo hasn’t played baseball everyday in months, but when he does, he had an excellent RISP average and a high OBP, both of which would help.

        • 0h the ag0ny says:

your right but hes only valuable as a 2 hitter && at the moment MURPHY && CHURCH are better options then him at the 2hole. Simply no room.

Easley had a good game all around yesterday, hes a great presence on the field. Ability to drive a ball… eh i live && die with him.

        • Constnza81V2.0 says:

Easley can hit the ball into the outfield. Castillo can’t.

I one of the biggest Omar defenders here, and even wanted Castillo back for another year or so, but that contract is an absolute disaster. His RISP numbers are such a small sample size that I’m sure they would deviate back to his absolutely mediocre .260 average with more PAs and his OBP might be one of the emptiest OBP in baseball. The guy is just not a good player anymore. Case closed. Stop always looking to poke holes in Manuel’s strategy, especially when the team is playing better than it ever has under him. It just makes you look bitter and I know that’s not the case.

        • Ceetar says:

I’m not bitter. I just look and I’m scared about Manuel in general. I don’t think “Easley/Castillo makes the difference, particularly in the regular season, but at the very least I think Castillo should get to play 5/6 days in a row to really see if he can contribute. If you’re going to put him on a post season roster, you want him in as best baseball shape as he can be in, and he really should be facing some regular live pitching for that. Easley was horrific for the last month or so before Castillo got back, even splitting time with A. Reyes, who was average at best.

It’s not case closed, you’d have said the same about Delgado in April, but he was able to turn it around. Castillo is simply a better baseball player than Easley. You saying he’s washed up is based on as small a sample size as his RISP, and he was still recovering from surgery during that time.

        • Constnza81V2.0 says:

Maybe my feelings about Castillo are more personal than fact-based. Watching him play this year, he just seems to embody all that went wrong in ‘07 – which is odd because he was performing last Sept. in ways Jose wasn’t at the top of the line-up. But when he fails, Castillo looks more dejected than determined. I think you recently theorized that he didn’t have the knee surgery he should have – and if that’s the case, than I think that’s disgraceful.

I guess you can make a comparison to Delgado, but I think Delgado’s resurgence is pretty improbable. To expect that from two or more players on your roster who look totally shot at one earlier this season, is pushing your luck.

Bottom line, Mets need a new 2B next year. Maybe it’s Murphy, maybe it’s someone else. Can we at least say case closed on that?

  3. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

hey fish, keep scoring those runs in the 9th baby.!!!!!!

    and of course

    LETS GO BIG PELF!!!!

  4. 0h the ag0ny says:

MVP! MVP! delgadoo can rock this fool

  5. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. Pelf – Go Get ‘Em tonight.

  6. BigPelf4prez says:

We win tonight and go up 4 games in the LC, than philly would have to play 5 games better the rest of the way than us and I’m here to say THATS NOT HAPPENING!!!

  7. kickingmule says:

I’m sitting here watching the Phillies game (just gave up 2 runs to make it 6-3 in the 9th ). Outside of Brad Lidge I’d take the Mets Bullpen right now. Looking at this team the past 3 games reminds me of the Mets last Sept. They better win 3 vs. the Brewers this weekend, otherwise they are going to be out of it for both the division and wildcard.

  8. grotesmask says:

    Go Big Pelf!

Please return to the Mets tonigh, Jose Reyes!

    Beat the Walgreens team!

  9. metsfanmurph says:

2 outs from the magic number being reduced to 15 before Pelfrey takes the hill

  10. Steve in DC says:

    It’s official! Phils lose!

Now we take care of business. GO BIG PELF!

  11. 0h the ag0ny says:

love tatis but i miss Nicky Evans =[

  12. khmustache says:

    yeah fish! alright mets capitalize!!!!

  13. zen says:

    Magic #31

  14. 0h the ag0ny says:

Marlins own the Phils…could be very helpful.

  15. nyj0126 says:

3 games up now… now time to make it 3 1/2. The Phillies are losing it… 1 of 3 to the Nats. 1 of 3 to the Marlins.

I watched the last few innings of the game. J.C. Romero threw a batting practice 3-0 pitch to Dan Uggla with 1 and 2nd and he tanked him. Romero started getting into an argument with Christ Coste probably about the choice of a fastball. They’re losing their composure…

Big start from Pelf coming tonight. And a home run from Delgado

  16. zigner says:

Phillies playing .500 ball since June 10

I haven’t heard ANY broadcasters mentioning that

    • Ceetar says:

If you really break it down, the Phillies aren’t very ‘gritty’ or ‘clutch’.

Is it a surprise though? They’re certainly don’t fit the bill, but I could see why the Phillies might look like ‘loveable losers’ from the outside that peo ple want to root for.

      Or at least losers.

    • backinbusiness says:

their season is very, very similar to our last one.

hope it ends that way for them, only way less close. :)

Put it in the Maroone books.

    • nyj0126 says:

Sounds exactly like the Mets of June 1st from 2007 on… Those Phillies are announcers are too stubborn. Since Manuel’s taken over the team which has seemed to work hand-in-hand with Philly’s mediocrity. I remember last year our announcers mentioned it to the point that it was miserable just watching the games… I guess that has it’s good and bad but I do like hearing it how it is.

Few people talk about it, but the Padres lost after being up by a lot too… If it were not for the Rockies getting so hot or the Padres managing to barely hold up, the Mets may have gotten in as the wild card. The Phillies probably won’t even get a chance for it to be that close with the good play of the Central.

  17. CaseStreet says:

Enough looking back, I’m looking forward, and I see October baseball coming back to Shea.

  18. nyj0126 says:

The Mets and Phils got very similar schedules in these last 2+ weeks… Both teams got 3 against the Marlins. For the Mets, those games are at Shea where as for the Phillies it’s in Florida. That’s a big advantage.

The Mets got 5 against the Nats and the Phillies got 3 against them… Those two games being the extra two the Mets have to play. Those 3 are in Philly, where as 1 out of 5 are at Shea. If anyone were to pick between Wash and Fla to play away, that’s pretty much a no-brainer…

Both of them how 6 games against ATL… 3 at home and 3 away.

And the Phillies get the Brewers for a 4 game set at home where as the Mets get the Cubs for a 4 game set. I’d rather play the Brewers, but the Cubs may have clinched not just the division but the best record in the NL by than. Things are shaping up good if they stay hot…

  19. 1331 says:

    heilman smiled

  20. BlueCapsOnly says:

Looks like they’re wearing those flag caps like they did on July fourth weekend. I guess in honor of September 11 since they don’t play tomorrow (i heard all teams will be wearing the flag cap tomorrow). However it was always cool that the Mets would were the first responder caps on 9-11, guess that’s gone with MLB’s forced marketing.

    • miker94 says:

yeah, it’s nice to see them wearing those hats. bring back piazza for a clutch hr!!

    • CaseStreet says:

that’s not right. For many, that first game at Shea after 9-11 was the first time they were able to release all the emotions that they were going through. It should be a tradition to play on 9-11 in NY.

    • Nightlife says:

Do they sell the caps they’re wearing tonight? I like them.

      • Nightlife says:

        Sweet found them on MLB.com.

      • BlueCapsOnly says:

Yes, but personallly I think buying them is stupid, its just another way for MLB to make money. As I said before, normally the Mets wear first responder (NYPD, FDNY etc…) on Sept. 11, but now they have to wear these dumb caps so MLB can make more money.

        • Nightlife says:

Oh I probably wouldn’t buy one. I look pretty weird in ball caps. But I own a bunch of Mets caps for some odd reason. Hell, the only one I wear with any sort of regularity (see at ball games, or occasional outdoor activity) is the all black one with a velcro adjustable strap (Mets embroidered on the strap).

        • BlueCapsOnly says:

As my name implies, blue caps only! How beautiful did that Uni look when they wore the Blue caps with the road jersey at Yankee Stadium earlier this year.

        • Nightlife says:

I like the all blue caps the best too. I just can’t pull them off.

  21. nyj0126 says:

I remember they were rumoring earlier in the season that the Mets and Yankees could have played on 9/11 as a rain out make up… Probably would have made them a lot of money. They decided not to do that though. The Yankees are lucky because the Mets would eat them alive in such a game the way these two clubs are playing…

  22. goody337 says:

    the nats announcers arent terrible

  23. khmustache says:

love to hear about the phills phigting with each other!

  24. BlueCapsOnly says:

HA!, Gary just took a dig at the Marlins Announcers with the “His name is Dan Uggla” comment.

  25. miker94 says:

thank goodness I got the sny broadcast, cuz the nats announcers are un-listenable! and about the sillies arguing with each other…”WAAAAAHHH!!!” hahaha

  26. khmustache says:

    gotta love the leadoff walks!

  27. nyj0126 says:

I hope Johan pitches on Saturday instead of Friday because otherwise if the game were to count after the rotation runs itself through three more times, he’d go back out on Saturday. Not Sunday, the last game of the season. It’d be Pedro instead. Plus, I’d just rather see Ollie and Pelfrey follow after Pedro.

Ollie should be pitching Sun and Pelf Mon regardless of what happens with Johan and Pedro on Fri/Sat… but Tuesday and two more starts after that will require a 5 pitcher who doesn’t seem to be determined. Do we go with Niese again? Parnell? Knight? I think Figueroa’s the safest choice…

  28. nyj0126 says:

I know Church just ground into a DP which shows a weakness in his lack of speed, but I think Ryan batting second through the end of the year really is a good idea… He gets on, he’ll see good pitches and it’ll make the chances of Luis Castillo ending up in the line up less and less.

  29. khmustache says:

    nice!

  30. nyj0126 says:

    There we go David..

  31. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Looking good, David.

See Jerry watching that hit, shaking his head yes, up and down?

  32. therealsince86 says:

Well that would be why Church does not need to bat 2nd. Swings at 3 straight pitches and hits into a DP.

    • nyj0126 says:

But than again he hit a home run last night, right? There’s no obvious 2 hitter other than possibly Daniel Murphy… If it’s Tatis and Easley, who to choose? Maybe Tatis… With Church batting 2nd though, there’s no weakness 1-5

      • therealsince86 says:

Tatis or Murphy. Obviously Murphy would work when he plays because he takes an incredible amount of pitches. For that matter, without doing the research it seems as Tatis does as well. Like or hate Castillo he does take a lot of pitches which is incredibly underrated for a #2 hitter.

  33. dcmetsfan says:

Have I mentioned that I hate Bob Carpenter. Really hate him. He has absolutely no clue about any other team.

  34. nyj0126 says:

    Yeah! Screw you Lastings

  35. ReyesMets says:

    Love Beltran…

most maligned player I’ve ever come across for no reason whatsoever

  36. khmustache says:

    RIBBY BELTRAN!!!!!!!!!!

and i must say blastings is turrible in centerfield

  37. MetsFan4Decades says:

    All right, Beltran!

  38. therealsince86 says:

    MILLEDGE IS TERRIBLE.

  39. Metfreak says:

Why are they not wearing the NYPD and FDNY caps tonight?

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

See my comments above, basically so MLB can make more money with those (in my opinion dumb) flag caps.

  40. Nightlife says:

Sweet, Odalis Perez is losing his mind.

  41. CaseStreet says:

I told you Beltran batting 4th was a great idea. LOL.

  42. BlueCapsOnly says:

No place to put the man on fire now either!

  43. nyj0126 says:

sit on this… and it’ll be gone

  44. nyj0126 says:

ughh.. saving it for next time. main thing is we got off to a lead early

  45. MetsFan4Decades says:

    OMG – TATIS !

  46. Metfreak says:

Nice catch that would be on ESPN top 10

  47. ReyesMets says:

Jeez Tatis…hard to believe he’s in there partially “for his defense”

  48. nyj0126 says:

    wow lol

  49. khmustache says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA……..OMG THAT WAS SOOOO UGLY

  50. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Well, crap.

  51. nyj0126 says:

    that was a bomb

  52. Metfreak says:

Lets hope Pelf is not doing an Ollie tonight

  53. miker94 says:

dukes is a wife beater. big time criminal! i live in tampa and when he was on the rays, he was in the paper every day for some criminal act. thug.

  54. gomets6091 says:

Since August 1, Beltran is batting:

    .319/.385/.585, .970 OPS, 8 HR, 28 RBI

    Since August 24, he’s batting:

    .370/.429/.778, 1.207 OPS, 6 HR, 17 RBI

It’s been easy to lose sight of him with how hot Delgado’s been, but Beltran has been almost as hot. If Jose and David get on track, this team will be lethal. (for the record, those stats were before his RBI single in the 1st, so add another RBI and a point or two of BA)

  55. khmustache says:

lotta fly balls tonight from pelfrey

  56. nyj0126 says:

i’m watching it on mlb.tv and i clicked back on the screen when it was minimized and i see the ball in the air right before tatis jumps and i see him tumble over lo The volume was off so I didn’t think it was live… He didn’t make it look as easy as Carlos does but he got it done… They gotta get back the run they gave up last inning. Anyone see another high scoring game coming? I hope we get a good game out of Mike though

  57. khmustache says:

    the gnats are very pesky

  58. mookie says:

Do you think pelf needs a start off.

    • therealsince86 says:

Not really. I think he is fine for now. As long as there is no rain won’t he get another day off? I mean if we clinch early some how then you can rest him but it’s too early to think about it right now. Especially with Pedro and comittee #5.

    • ReyesMets says:

I would like to give PELF a start off — not because I think he is going to be ineffective — but because he’s getting very close to reaching his “Verducci number:” whenever a pitcher throws 30 more innings in a year than he ever has thrown in the past, injuries become exponentially more prevalent (think Mark Prior 2003)

  59. Metfreak says:

Not as pesky as the Marlins

    • khmustache says:

the marlins are playing with a huge chip on their shoulder lately i think…if they can keep the talent that they have, they’re going to be a very good team in about 2 years

      • therealsince86 says:

IF they can keep their talent? They have NEVER kept their talent. Uggla will soon be traded as well as a few pitchers I am sure.

        • khmustache says:

probably right about that, it’s sad really, it’d be nice to have another good team in the division (besides the fillies)

        • gomets6091 says:

umm…no it wouldn’t! Screw the other teams, I hope they all suck. I’d like to see the rest of the NL East be as pathetic as it was in the mid-to-late 90’s, when the Braves just dominated, only the Mets play the role of Braves.

  60. EV says:

Yea the nats are pesky and we got 4 more games with them next week in DC.

  61. nyj0126 says:

why did the nats take on so many exposed prospects who didn’t exactly flourish with the team they were on? like dukes and milledge. i won’t give anderson hernandez the respect of being calling a prospect lol i know church was a little older, but it was like nady with the mets. he was 25. he wasn’t consider equivalent to a prospect, yet phil humber who’s older was?

i was watching baseball tonight last night too and saw peter gammons mention that the mets are turning to be the clear winners of the johan trade. the only guy who’s really turned out well for minnesota so far is gomez even though he could be hitting higher. prospects haven’t done well. if johan had been with the twins this year, they would be in the playoffs. they would have lost him after the year so i’d probably take like at least 7-8 years of gomez versus one of santana…all the other

    • ReyesMets says:

“he could be hitting higher” might be the understatement of the year…he’s been one of the worse everyday hitters in all of MLB this side of Michael Bourn

  62. Nightlife says:

Easley is a double play specialist.

  63. MetsFan4Decades says:

These double plays they’re grounding into are a rally killer.

  64. nyj0126 says:

Every year people say the Marlins are going to be a really good team in a couple of years lol When Girardi took over that team, people said that and here we are… They actually aren’t a bad team. It won’t shock me if they eventually pull of a 97′ or 03′ again. Florida, Minnesota and a couple other teams out there are able to scout out some of the best talent in this game.

    • khmustache says:

cubs, brewers, dodgers, a’s all very good…yankees might be the worst

      • nyj0126 says:

yup… the mets could be better, but the yankees are certainly worse. i don’t know how they managed to convince the pirates that tebata and what ever other junk they through at them was worth nady. it wasn’t even marte because he hasn’t done well with the yankees and he’s kind of overrated.

Throughout the years the yankees have shown that money can buy there way into the playoffs. Once they lost that great pitching, they’ve tried out hitting teams. Joe Torre got out at the right time and got to the right place at the right time…

  65. nyj0126 says:

what will hurt with the dp if schneider doesn’t get on will be pelfrey being an automatic out in the next inning… hopefully brian gets on

  66. das320 says:

Ok, enough with the double plays already.

Now that the Mets have hit into 2 in 2 innings, can they be done for the game?

  67. Metfreak says:

The Nats seems to get all the trouble makers and washed up players from other teams The Marlins are like the A’s they get good young players then trade them away before they demand big money

  68. nyj0126 says:

come on… these hits are going to come back to bite them eventually

  69. nyj0126 says:

lol i love the dis to the yankees… k-rod 56… and who doesn’t want him?

  70. ReyesMets says:

Pelfrey has been rather fortunate so far tonight…zero missed bats and 2 absolute ropes from Milledge turning into out

  71. Nightlife says:

Jose and David starting to heat up.

  72. zen says:

congrats to jose reyes tow all-time records down a few more to go

  73. MetsFan4Decades says:

    282 – congrats, Jose.

  74. Nightlife says:

    Congrats Jose!!!!

  75. das320 says:

    Congratulations Jose!

I always knew you would top Mookie

  76. EV says:

    Congrats Jose.

  77. nyj0126 says:

good eye… big situation for david here. if he can get on, you get the to the hottest players in the game

  78. rM teM says:

    steal home

  79. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Yes, Jose!
    Reyes run coming up here?

  80. nyj0126 says:

    thats the jose we know..

  81. rM teM says:

did a met ever steal home?

  82. zen says:

    100 runs. again.

  83. ReyesMets says:

    thatta boy, DAvid!

  84. MetsFan4Decades says:

    DAVID !!!
And the Mets take the lead.

  85. nyj0126 says:

    david’s coming around

  86. therealsince86 says:

    Clutch, LOL.

  87. Nightlife says:

Wasn’t too pretty, but David is coming back.

  88. dominicanboy08 says:

so the mets are the only team in the majors with 3 guys with 100 RBI and 3 with 100 runs. am I wrong?

  89. nyj0126 says:

    no double play here

  90. EV says:

    Yea D Wright!!!!!!

  91. ReyesMets says:

    Chucky Beltran!!!! Love him

  92. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Beltran just keeps it coming…..

  93. nyj0126 says:

yup… that’s the beltran we know too. there cowards. a walk to delgados coming

  94. Nightlife says:

    Nice Carlos.

Also, way to NOT send Wright, Aguayo!!!!

  95. EV says:

    Beltran!!!!!

  96. khmustache says:

had to put the kid to bed…pleasant suprise coming back!

    congrats jose!

    way to go david!

    nice hitting beltran!

  97. therealsince86 says:

And the best part is that Wild Man (Our 3B coach) did not send Wright there.

  98. ReyesMets says:

walkin the lefty (even delgado) to load the bases for a righty is flirtin with danger…

    MAKE THEM PAY, FERNANDO!!!!

  99. nyj0126 says:

Tatis is gonna get another hit

  100. khmustache says:

    come on superman!

  101. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, bases loaded again. Time to turn this God-awful stat around.

  102. Nightlife says:

This is so insane watching Delgado being intentionally walked. I remember in June in a situation when I THANKED the opposing team for walking him intentionally.

  103. nyj0126 says:

    once again… no double play

  104. nyj0126 says:

who in there right mind would be have intentionally walked him in june lol maybe lat ejune

  105. ReyesMets says:

    TATIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

  106. MetsFan4Decades says:

    TATIS = SUPERMAN !

  107. Metfreak says:

Thats what you get for walking Delgado

  108. nyj0126 says:

louie holds delgado… he’s got a brain i see lol

  109. Nightlife says:

    TATIS!!!!

  110. EV says:

    He TATISED IT!!!!!!

  111. nyj0126 says:

fernando made them pay… thank you for granting me a hit and not hitting into a double play lol the mets r so hot pelfrey might get a hit. it has to suck to be odalis perez

  112. nyj0126 says:

base hit damion.. come on.. nice play by nieves. so many ex yankees and ex mets on this team

  113. BlueCapsOnly says:

Fernando was born for the bases loaded…I’m sure the Nats announcers are mentioning what he did against the Dodgers for the 99999 time now.

  114. nyj0126 says:

i want this game to be like the one where we scored like 9 runs off bergman in an inning a month ago

  115. Metfreak says:

Come on Easy E don’t mess up I don’t want to see Slappy

  116. Metfreak says:

    NICE!!!!!!!!!!

  117. nyj0126 says:

    a hits coming

  118. MetsFan4Decades says:

    And Easley keeps it going!
    Woo-Hoo !
    Just gotta love it.

  119. khmustache says:

    BOOYAH!!!!!!!!!1 AGUAYO GOT LUCKY THERE!!!!!!!11

  120. ReyesMets says:

Another Aguayo ridiculous move somehow pays off this time!

  121. EV says:

    DAMON IS THE MAN!!!!!!!

  122. nyj0126 says:

i said it when the ball was on the ground lol

  123. Nightlife says:

    Got saved there Aguayo.

  124. nyj0126 says:

that is aggression… he’s only done 1 out of 3 dumb things though and the one luckily has payed off. you can play aggressive when you’re up like that

  125. MetsFan4Decades says:

Glad to see these runs. Pelf looking a little shaky first couple of innings so this should really help.

  126. Tha Prowler says:

bottom of the lineup pouring it on …niiiice!!

  127. nyj0126 says:

come on brian… time for you to get a hit too.. keep it alive

  128. Airfeet says:

this lineup is the hottest its been all season rite now

  129. ReyesMets says:

If this score holds up, I take out Pelfrey as soon as possible (after 5 innings) and turn this thing into the Carlos Muniz Show

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I don’t know…..it wasn’t that long ago that we all knew ‘no lead is safe’…..

      • nyj0126 says:

yup you’re right. now we actually have a bullpen though lol for the last few weeks the best one in the NL actually. i don’t see a reason why not to let pelf go as long as he normally would. if it goes to like 11-1, that’s another story.

  130. nyj0126 says:

ughh this is what sucks about the NL… but i’m happy. 6 runs. maybe pelfrey will do it

  131. BlueCapsOnly says:

Pelf should bunt with 2 outs and see what happens

  132. nyj0126 says:

yea. this game is certainly not over be any measures. it can be 7-4 by the end of inning if they’re not careful. i’m more confident with pelf than ollie so i think theyll wrap this game up good. that plus a phillies and another yankees loss is amazing

  133. goody337 says:

it doesnt suck about the n.l. the dh is the worst rule ever

  134. therealsince86 says:

What is it 4 1/2 innings to get the win? I was just wondering if the Mets would pull him early to save innings. I know the game is no where near over, just wondering.

  135. Metfreak says:

I hope they didn’t wake up

  136. Nightlife says:

    Man I LOVE Pelf!!

    Dukes is a hothead.

  137. khmustache says:

    b***h

  138. nyj0126 says:

oh i agree.. the dh definitely doesn’t belong in the game. when you get used to watching it on tv though, that’s what you think. if the dh never existed i wouldnt have been able to say it sucks lol brian cooled it off by flying out on what seemed to be not even an easy play though so if pelf was ok to end it..

  139. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Dukes – Jeeze.
where’s the cheerleading in that dugout now??
Gotta love Pelf. He doesn’t back down from anything.

  140. Gary Busey says:

    Dear Pelfrey,

Can you please not get shanked?

    Your friend,

    Gary Busey

  141. nyj0126 says:

throw at his teeth next pitch

  142. CaveManJoe says:

Hit him with the next pitch

  143. Tha Prowler says:

dukes is a punk!!! even his managers r like “son STFU”

  144. nyj0126 says:

this guy wont last more than 3-4 years in the league… hes such a baby

  145. zen says:

gary’s hatred for dukes is unmatched. everytime the mets play the nats…it’s hilarious.

  146. Nightlife says:

    What in the hell Dukes!!??

    That wasn’t even that inside.

    Jesus.

  147. Metfreak says:

    Next pitch hit him

  148. BlueCapsOnly says:

Damn, that Dukes is crazy, I’d be worried he’d attack the mound with his bat.

  149. goody337 says:

    i love pelfrey for that

  150. Metfreak says:

    Maybe that woke Pelf up

  151. nyj0126 says:

strike this little boy out… he thinks he could touch pelfrey? please

  152. SuicideWatch says:

    What’s that strange sensation????

  153. nyj0126 says:

another strike… how is this baby gonna handle getting k’ed

  154. nyj0126 says:

    oh he showed me lol

  155. Tha Prowler says:

where’s my boy derek bell when i need him….i swear we should make him a manager somewhere on this team…

  156. nyj0126 says:

the sad thing is hes only a triple and single away from the cycle…

  157. khmustache says:

that was a very weak chain of events…dukes is and has always been one of the biggest babies in the league

  158. Metfreak says:

Duke will be playing for the LI Ducks one day

  159. khmustache says:

anyone watching the nats feed? what are they saying about it?

    • Nightlife says:

I would actually kind of like to know this as well.

    • gomets6091 says:

they said it was clearly intentional on Pelfrey’s part.

      Worst announcers EVER

      • Nightlife says:

Yes, clearly intentionally. An inside fastball that missed a little bit inside that wasn’t anywhere close to the guys head. These pitches happen MANY times during every single game.

      • khmustache says:

wow…man pelf is getting a reputation as a headhunter and i don’t think he’s ever actually thrown at anybody

  160. Nightlife says:

Alright, way to settle down Pelf.

  161. The Slider says:

Did the umpires actually give both teams warnings?? Why the Mets? (I missed it when I went to bring my dog in from the yard.)

  162. nyj0126 says:

dukes wife filed an order against him that he threatened to kill her, but she didn’t file her papers for divorce? maybe she’s waiting for his next contract so she gets half lol what loser would marry such a piece of crap? and who says there are no faults in capitalism lol

From what i’ve read, he’s impregnated 5 different girls and has had 7 daughters. all of whom he was never married to. he even impregnated a girl who was a 17 year old in a foster home living with his grandma when he was of legal age.

  163. Metfreak says:

Check out the numbers on this pitcher for the Nats

  164. goody337 says:

they are talking about how hes not bad guy…just animated and emotional

  165. nyj0126 says:

you don’t think that carries over?

  166. goody337 says:

ray night says keith came and asked him if he was a bad guy and he said he’s not he’s a good guy thats missunderstood

  167. nyj0126 says:

a person who can’t control his emotions is often a person who can’t control the decisions he makes in life. if such a little thing like a pitch that didn’t even require him to move his body makes him nearly snap, how can someone even expect this guy to know how to drive a car? lol

    • nyj0126 says:

i dont know whats wrong with the rays or formerly devil rays, hillsborough high school and tampa with some of the guys they given baseball lol carl everett is from tampa and goes to hillsborough high school. he has emotional problems. bumps an ump with his nose and gets suspended 10 games for it. gets arrested for beating his own kids. delmon young – perhaps worse than elijah threw a bat at an ump. hes not from tampa though. and dukes is the whole package lol from tampa, hillsborough hs and came up with the d-rays. and i hate to mention doc gooden too…

  168. goody337 says:

    he was definately safe

  169. rM teM says:

    close. out I think

  170. goody337 says:

actually they showed it on the nats channel and he was def out

  171. khmustache says:

    good call after all…poop

  172. goody337 says:

david looks so much better at the plate the last couple days

  173. goody337 says:

    beltran’s goin deep

  174. goody337 says:

my prediction was only 200 ft short

  175. khmustache says:

why has topdot taken over the prime guiseppe franco spot?

  176. Nightlife says:

I hope Pelf is an exception to the rule, because his innings pitched are scaring me.

  177. BLUEXORANGE says:

hey guys im not watching the game right now…but does anyone see a change in wrights stance again today….i was talking about it yesterday just wondering if it was a one day thing but is his leg kick a little less kick ,,,u know what i mean like his 06 stance?

  178. goody337 says:

i know its hard to believe but i recently moved to va beach and i actually miss guiseppe

    • Gasface77 says:

I live in NY and I miss Guiseppe….what the heck happened to him? No more commercials?

My favorite thing about this website is that there is actually a Guiseppe Franco link under the categories in the left sidebar.

  179. dj blanks says:

What happened to Guiseppe Franco? He’s so much better than that topdot commercial…

  180. Metfreak says:

Did Pelf go 123 at all this game?

  181. BlueCapsOnly says:

At the begining of the game I was opposed, but after this inning, take Pelf out and give him a rest.

  182. mookie says:

So what do you guys think. Should we sign Jason Veriteck. I hear the red soc are going to try to low ball him, and his knees are doing fine. Plus he would be a better hitter than schneider.

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

Actually he’s not, Varitek sucks, he’s just the “Captain”

    • zen says:

he’s done. only if it’s as a back-up playing once a week providing leadership in the clubhouse at low $$

    • khmustache says:

varitek is old, creaky and completely overrated. he would be a huge downgrade from schneider

    • nyj0126 says:

Varitek sucks… He’s had some clutch hits in the past but if he were here he wouldn’t have half as much value in Boston. In Boston, he’s won two WS and is looked up to. In New York, he’s just another player. Schneider is a good defensive catcher. He’s worked well with the starters. And if Ramon is healthy he can start 2-3 days a week.

Plus, both Schneider and Castro are signed through next season. I believe Schneider’s at 5MM and Castro’s at 2.3MM.

      • mookie says:

just a thought. You guys are right. Honestly I just hate the red sox and I know it would hurt if he left boston.

  183. nyj0126 says:

    That’s a nice play

  184. nyj0126 says:

Come on Big Pelf… get out of this. A 4 run lead in the 5th is never safe

  185. khmustache says:

    dang…can’t walk that clown

  186. Metfreak says:

    Pelf looks done for tonight

  187. Metfreak says:

It will be kind of funny to see Pelf go inside to Dukes

  188. grotesmask says:

Is Pelf running out of gas? What are his issues tonight?

  189. nyj0126 says:

Okay.. this site is starting to bug me. there’s never a reason for why a post doesn’t make it’s way on here.

as for varitek, i don’t want him. both of our catchers are signed through next season. schneider’s held up ok. he hits well against the phillies. he blocked the plate good, thrown at runners and mixed and matches with castro alright. varitek is valued in boston. in new york, he’s a rent a player

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

the most likely reason a post won’t show up is because a word you used has the letters a.s.s. consecutively.

  190. nyj0126 says:

If he can work his way out of this inning they’ll be in good shape… Maybe Parnell comes in

  191. nyj0126 says:

you cant be afraid to go inside again… come on pelf

  192. HOFMets57 says:

Pelfrey is fatigued. We should skip his next start…

  193. nyj0126 says:

    i love it

  194. zen says:

pelf throw it over the plate. it’s the white thing on the ground.

  195. nyj0126 says:

i tell him not to be afraid and he hits him lol how great would have it been if he lost his composure on that one and not the last? there would have been a brawl

  196. gomets6091 says:

We can never make it easy, can we…

  197. The Slider says:

I must say that whatever mental problems Dukes has, he has a mighty fine stroke at the plate. His swing is as powerful as Manny’s or Albert Belle’s.

And, not to give him too much credit, but he did keep his composure after Pelf hit him.

    Pelf is done.

  198. khmustache says:

ugh….glad to see dukes not flip out there…pelf probably done here…yup now he’s done

  199. Metfreak says:

I can’t believe they can’t put this sorry team away

  200. nyj0126 says:

crap.. okay. it’s time to yank pelf. we did it with ollie last night. see what i said. i said it could be 7-4 by the next inning and in a matter of time it’s 7-5… it’s a slugfest again

  201. Tha Prowler says:

a friggin lead is never safe…bullpen time….go rest pelf

  202. Nightlife says:

    Thanks for the favor Nats.

  203. Stems says:

    The walks are really unacceptable…

    make them earn it! chrissakes!

  204. Metfreak says:

Its time to put up some more runs before the Nats come back and ties it

  205. CaseStreet says:

figures, the bats get hot and now the SPs are going cold.

  206. EV says:

Damn, that inning blew, what is up with the starters blowing leads the last two night. It’s nice to not blame the offense for a change.

  207. castilloiscrap says:

what the hell’s up w/ our pitchers sucking against the Nats

  208. grotesmask says:

    Wow!

Even my mother warned me not to get too cocky, and I was like, “Mom, it’s the Nats.” Yeah, serves me right. I dunno, but we’d better pile on runs.

Let’s hope BP can give us four good ones. Pelf is spent.

  209. metsforever says:

We’ve seen this show before. Hopefully, a different ending this time. This is the Nationals guys. Put it away.

  210. das320 says:

I would love another 6 run inning here

  211. khmustache says:

    nice hustle tatis!

  212. Metfreak says:

The Nats are awful but the Mets are making them look good

  213. goody337 says:

    oh no

  214. therealsince86 says:

    CAN YOU PLEASE THROW STRIKES?

  215. Metfreak says:

This guys has to go in the off season he has to go

  216. castilloiscrap says:

Heilman is a loser! Why in the hell is he pitching

  217. Airfeet says:

are we gonna lose this game because Heilman is pitching

  218. khmustache says:

i get tired of watching heilman walk the leadoff guy

  219. castilloiscrap says:

somebody should take a dump of Heilman’s ugly face

  220. EV says:

Great job walking the lead off hiter Heilman!!!!

  221. BlueCapsOnly says:

if Heilman doesn’t get this out, Jerry better get him out of there!

  222. Metfreak says:

Come on Mr Happy get a DP

  223. EV says:

After this year, Heilman has GOT TO GO!!!! Trade him somewhere where he can start.

  224. BlueCapsOnly says:

    Thank God.

  225. goody337 says:

i was at game 7 in 06 and there is no person on this earth i’d actually like to see dissapear except aaron heilman. the site of his face makes my blood pressure sky rocket

  226. Metfreak says:

I will trade Mr Happy for a bag of balls

  227. gomets6091 says:

Off topic, but did anyone see Rick Reilly’s recent article, about which teams “rule their cities?” It’s on the ESPN frontpage if anyone’s interested. The premise was “If your town could save one sports team—college or pro—and the others had to relocate to Vladivostok, Russia, which one would stay?”

Predictably, the answer was the Yankees, which is ridiculous. At the absolute most generous, their fans make up 55% of the city. The Mets have outdrawn the Yankees 20 times in their 46 year history, and the 44 year history of Shea Stadium. I’d actually have to say it would be the Knicks. It’s the only sport where there’s 1 team, and NY, while being primarily a baseball town, still loves its basketball. When the Knicks are good, they dominate the city. Of course, it’s been so long since that happened that it feels like a myth.

    • nyj0126 says:

It’s hard to say. Take Dallas for example. That’s a Cowboys down. Look at Philly. That’s an Eagles town.

New York though? I don’t know. New York is definitely not a city that produces the best or a large number of athletes because the climate works against them. While basketball is one of the city’s better sports and Football is median, the level of baseball talent in this city is pitiful. They just don’t realize it because they never leave the state.

When watching a sport, it’s different. I’d say no matter where you go, football is the more popular to watch. The Giants and Jets shouldn’t even be considered NY teams considering they are in NJ. And if that be the case, than you shouldn’t hold a double standard to not considering the Nets a NY team too because they play in the same complex.

There are a lot of Nets fans in NY. Maybe a lot of bandwagoners during the Kidd era, or maybe because the Knicks dreadfully suck. The Knicks had a level of intensity with their defense. Unquestionably though, the Yankees are the first team you think of when someone says New York sports. I hate the Yankees. But isn’t that part of the reason why?

There is no way that the Mets are 45 percent of baseball fans in NY or the area. First of all, I don’t want ”new fans” crossing over. That’s not a real fan. I want Mets fans who’ve watched and dealt with all this like how we do. If you’re talking about immigrants or young people who never have been acquainted with the teams yet, than they’ll usually latch off of what others think. Maybe if the Mets win, they can persuade them.

      • nyj0126 says:

Not counting any Cubs or any type of fans that don’t make sense, I’d say the Mets are about 35 percent of baseball fans in NY are Yankees fans. I’d also say that while the NY area (like 19 million) is about 6-7 percent of America, the Yankees are still more than that. Maybe it’d be a little more you were to inlcude the rest of the state of NY (7 million) because they latch off of NYC’s baseball teams because they get them on TV and are so far from everything.

So the Mets and Yankees should eat up 9 percent of baseball fans in America just within their own markets and state. Let’s say the Mets hold 3.5% of that and the Yankees hold 5.5%.

Here’s where the difference is. No matter where you go in America, you’ll see Yankees fans. BS fans. Just like Cowboys and Lakers fans. And the Bulls when MJ was around. And it can’t be about not winning, because the Raiders are popular too.

I’d say the Yankees are at least 15% of baseball fans throughout the country, even though only like 35-40% of that actually lives in NY or within reasonable driving distance of a Yankees game. That’s why the Yankees are so powerful. What other NY team has random fans in Kansas? Maybe the Giants for a year because they won the Superbowl, but that’ll die at the end of this NFL season.

  228. castilloiscrap says:

    Heilman = balls

  229. goody337 says:

i like omar alot unlike alot of u but if heilman’s on the roster next year he needs to be stoned in times square

    • EV says:

I don’t like Omar and I agree with you on that. If Heilman is on the team next year and there is no K-Rod either. He deserves to be hanged in times square.

  230. MetsFan4Decades says:

Good thinkg there are like dozens of arms in that BP. Heilman’s pitch count is going to be like 50 pitches very shortly.

  231. The Slider says:

Keith: “… a three and a half game BULGE!”

    ha.

  232. goody337 says:

i agree gomets..ny is just as much of a basketball town as it is a baseball town and the knicks reign supreme

  233. 1331 says:

isnt dukes a wife/girlfriend beater also?

  234. das320 says:

I do not think Heimlich would even be that bad outside of the pen, but when he is in it and pitching, he makes me want to puke

  235. goody337 says:

watchin heilman pitch makes me want to go to the dentist

  236. MetsFan4Decades says:

You have got to be kidding me.

  237. Metfreak says:

    WHY WHY WHY Jerry

  238. The Slider says:

    Jesus Christ, Aaron!

  239. goody337 says:

    he’s really gottta go

  240. EV says:

I agree too, I’m a die hard Knicks fan and you are right go mets it is the only sport in town until the Nets come to Brooklyn whenever that is.

  241. Prismo says:

    Hey Heilman, go **** yourself.

  242. EV says:

    YOU SUCK HEILMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  243. khmustache says:

heilman is officially dead to me now

  244. gomets6091 says:

well now we know why Heilman never pitches anymore

  245. Airfeet says:

This game right now is on Manuel…for putting in Heilman

  246. BlueCapsOnly says:

    you piece of sh*t

  247. castilloiscrap says:

    FIRE HEILMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  248. Nightlife says:

Alright, I concede. I never want to see this man again. Homer to Guzman? Ugh.

  249. X-Man says:

Heilman should NEVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER see the pitching mound again.

  250. therealsince86 says:

LOL, and Heilman may have just pitched his last game for the Mets. ……… Sad isn’t it. Let us all think back……..

  251. Metfreak says:

Thanks Mr Happy and just think some fans wants this guy to start he wouldn’t last 2 innings

    • therealsince86 says:

But at least they would get it over with early and we would not see him but once every 6 days.

  252. miker94 says:

    aaron “freaking” heilman…wow

  253. EV says:

This whole god dam bullpen needs to be remade next year. Gary said it best: Heilman: gives up most home runs in Mets history with runners on base.

  254. The Slider says:

I think I’ve finally had with Aaron Heilman as a reliever this year. I’ve tried to stay with him – with all his ups and downs. But I can no longer.

Aaron, it was good knowing ye. Maybe you can come into spring training in ‘09 and nail down the 5th starter job. But, then again, maybe we’ll just trade you so you can get a fresh start somewhere else.

    Arrevaderci, baby.

    • Nightlife says:

Yep. This was the crossing the line moment for me. I know Guzman is hot and hit one against us the other day, but come on.

  255. das320 says:

    why does he pitch ever?

    honestly? he is completely worthless

even when he manages to somehow get out of the completely awful situations he gets himself into, it seems like he just got lucky

    DFA! DFA! DFA! DFA! DFA!

    Nothing else to say

  256. miker94 says:

only time heilman should come in is if the mets are up by 948 runs, and that’s it…

  257. miker94 says:

bigger problem here is that the mets blew yet ANOTHER 6 run lead. pathetic. the sports shows tomorrow are going to have a fieldday with this if they lose. come on bats!!!

  258. Metfreak says:

7-1 to a real bad team and we made they come back

  259. EV says:

Heyman was best: Mets won’t spend on K-Rod, move Heilman to rotation and Maine as closer. I swear if Omar does that, he’s a bigger moron than I thought.

  260. goody337 says:

our starters really sucked the last two days

  261. edwin nieves says:

I blame freakin Manuel how the hell u bring him in to face lefties? He can’t even get righties out! What the hell was Manuel thingking.

  262. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

I honestly feel bad for Heilman in this situation…the guy should not be put in situations to continuously crash and burn like this (I. e. he should be no where near the mound, um, ever)

I hope he gets to start next year – preferably for the Nats, Braves, Marlins…

  263. danlx13 says:

look how well the bullpen was doing the past couple of weeks and now hielman comes in and ruins it.

  264. mookie says:

Could he be doing this on purpose? I hat that &%&%&%&*%&.

  265. Nightlife says:

At least Joe Smith has been solid lately.

  266. BlueCapsOnly says:

Thanks for going with a real pitcher for that last out Mets

  267. Metfreak says:

We need to score some runs and take control of this game

  268. X-Man says:

BP has actually been pitching very well lately. It’s obvious that Heilman is the weak link.

How can you possibly trust Heilman in a tight pennant race. IMO, the guy has just pitched his way out of the stretch drive. We cannot give this guy the ball unless it’s for some junk, mop up work in a blow game. Totally useless and please, Heilman apologists, don’t even try to defend this useless, and unfortunately, totally lost pitcher.

    • khmustache says:

yup…i’ve been trying to defend him all year, but i think you’re right. the guy needs a change of scenerey…it worked for mota at least.

  269. Stems says:

how can a professional pitcher be so bad… heilman shoud never pitch again for the mets.

  270. castilloiscrap says:

    KILL HEILMAN NOW!!!!!!!!!

    • das320 says:

I swear I would fight the guy if I saw him on the street

I would probably lose, but it would be worth it

  271. das320 says:

Matt nailed it with his article about Heimlich’s walks – that one here cost him dearly

    He is completely awful

Tell me when you could possibly use him again? NEVER

  272. BlueCapsOnly says:

I know many want to blame Jerry on this, but he gave Aaron one last shot and he sh*t his pants….Thats probably the last we see of him in a game that is within 8 runs.

  273. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

I always defended Heilman, but it’s over. He should not be used in any more important situations this year and should the Mets make the playoffs, he should not be included on the roster.

  274. EV says:

I swear I feel like I’m watching September 07 against the Nats. Damn we got 4 MORE GAMES with them, screw Florida, this is the pesky team that is going to give you nightmares. Two nights in a row they have come back from leads that most really bad teams wouldn’t come back from.

  275. atrain311 says:

I swear if you pulled off Heilman’s jersey you’d find a Phillies one underneath.

  276. castilloiscrap says:

PITCH PARNELL OR AL REYES. AT LEAST GIVE THEM A CHANCE!!!! THEY CAN’T BE ANY WORSE THAN THIS BUM!!!!!

  277. WrightsRight says:

jeez…heilman is such a buzz kill. granted pelf didn’t have his best stuff tonight, but heilman should not be allowed to pitch in close situations.

  278. stickguy says:

Geez, I go away for an hour, and the 2007 September version of the Mets reappear. THis is absurd.

Pelf may just be getting tired, but it certainly looks like Heilmann either didn’t get enough rest (or even more likely, too much).

They have to win games like this, especially with the Phils already losing, or the probability of blowing another Sept. lead goes way way up.

7-1 lead on a crap team like the Nats? No excuse.

  279. Metfreak says:

Sometimes Jerry does a Willie and puts to much trust in Mr happy

  280. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Heilman should have been pulled when he surrendered the leadoff walk.

  281. kd bart says:

Heilman cannot and should not be put on any postseason roster. He’s totally useless and would be a waste of a spot.

  282. castilloiscrap says:

HEILMAN IS THE HAUNTING MEMORY OF 2007!

  283. khmustache says:

churchy not looking so good tonight

  284. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

0 hits since the third inning.

  285. WrightsRight says:

i’ve said it before – heilman did not get enough abuse for giving up the HR to Molina. It was like fans were too shocked to crucify him and give the mitch williams treatment. he’s gotta go, plain and simple.

    • X-Man says:

You are right. As long as he’s on this team, it will be tough to win anything. Time to cut the cord and move forward.

  286. das320 says:

I really like what Manuel has done with the team, but as long as he keeps putting Heimlich in, he is just being Willie all over again. Cannot do that. Sit him like slappy.

  287. PAPDOG67 says:

I really believe you have seen the last of Mr. Heilman in a Mets uniform. Jerry had a look on his face while making the pitching change that said, “I’m officially done with this guy.”

  288. sandiegometsman says:

for the life of me… why the hell did we bring in that bloodsucking piece of crap Heilman.. I just don’t get it.. Talk about an absolute piece of s*** that reminds me of nothing but the worst that the Mets bring to the table… How the f*** did we blow a 6 run lead to the NOTS? They always find a way of screwing us… How bat the Bats start waking up?

  289. EV says:

If they lose this game, and fail to add that game on to their lead, it’s going to bite them in the butt.

    • X-Man says:

They won’t lose now that Heilman is gone (and hopefully for good). This BP has been pitching great and Heilman just put a bad taste on everyone’s mouth.

  290. Nightlife says:

Alright, time for a jog to clear the mind. I’ll imagine I am Heilman running away from angry Mets fans to try and make better time.

  291. stickguy says:

Of course, it would be nice if the O also didn’t go back to the old “hey, we gots some runs in the 3rd, that’s it for the night” mode!

    • WrightsRight says:

agree…and pelf looked off…..but heilman is still an enormous buzz kill. His hang-dog look, his 4-sizes-too-tight uniform pants – everything about his screams “ugh, it’s heilman.”

  292. khmustache says:

that is why david wright is clutch…offense isn’t the only clutch part of the game

    • metsomniac says:

according to some people there isn’t any cluthch part of the game… it’s just an accurate reprensentaion of Wright’s awesomness over a long period of time… or some crap like that….

  293. nyj0126 says:

There was no need for the Nats to be back in this game. That whole big inning was pretty worthless… Oh well. That’s baseball. The main core of the pen has to stay good. Screw Heilman. Screw Brandon Knight and who ever else. They need to score a run in the bottom half of the inning and close this game out with Stokes and Ayala.

  294. EV says:

Yea, but come on two nights in a row the offense has scored 7 or more runs, you can’t ask fir much more than that. This is the pitcher’s fault not the offense.

    • stickguy says:

And you just described exactly what happened the last 2 weeks of September, 2007!

    • nyj0126 says:

You’re right.. I wasn’t making that post to show resentment towards the offense if that’s how it came off sounding. What I meant was looking at it from a team perspective, Pelf and the pen really gave what was a great inning away.

The offense needs to come up

  295. nyj0126 says:

Come on Joe… walking guys hurts

  296. Metfreak says:

The Mets are making think that the Nats bullpen is great

  297. khmustache says:

    CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  298. EV says:

    Yea D.Wright, real nice play.

  299. WrightsRight says:

    thank goodness for joe smith

  300. X-Man says:

Too bad Mike Francessa thinks DWright is the worst defensive 3rd Baseman in baseball and laughed when David won the Gold Glove.

  301. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’ve lost my place trying to count the amount of posts on Heilman has to go, he’s no good.
And I’m admitting I have to jump on this train also…..

  302. nyj0126 says:

that was a nice play by david… he keeps coming up big defensively. he’s automatic over there

  303. goody337 says:

thank goodness for david…last year i thought he didnt deserve the gold glove but this year he def does

  304. stickguy says:

OK, bot 7, heart of the order up. Time to take control back of this game. Put up a few runs and let the pen finish it out.

Just be careful though, Stokes and Ayala can’t pitch every day!

  305. X-Man says:

Oh look, the guy that ends the inning on a great defensive play leads off the next inning.

  306. khmustache says:

thank you blastings…i wonder if the ushers are going to make him buy a ticket

  307. metsomniac says:

that’s vintage david hitting right there!

  308. nyj0126 says:

At least we know it may have not just been Ollie… It takes some worries away from the idea that Ollie would be going back to the ways of the past against weak teams. Both Pelf and Ollie have been awesome the last few months. It’s just these Nats can hit the ball… at least lately they can

  309. Metfreak says:

Here we go come on lets get aleast 3 runs

  310. khmustache says:

    NICE!!!

  311. nyj0126 says:

    carlos!

  312. goody337 says:

the nats commentaters love david wright and the whole mets org.

  313. nyj0126 says:

who are they chanting mvp for? which carlos? lol

  314. MetsFan4Decades says:

Very nice, Carlos. We’ll take it.

  315. khmustache says:

    RIBBY!!!!1

    nice catch by the way

  316. EV says:

    NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  317. Mingo says:

In all honesty, I think Heilmann will never throw another pitch for the Mets.

  318. nyj0126 says:

Delgado… i love it. David’s come through. Beltran’s come through and Delgado is doing both the little and big things

  319. castilloiscrap says:

    freakin finally!

  320. therealsince86 says:

That would have been an easy tripple.

  321. goody337 says:

    line drive city

  322. HOFMets57 says:

Milledge is refusing to even budge from the warning track.

BTW, his arm isn’t as good as I remember…

  323. khmustache says:

    i love blastings thrilledge!

  324. therealsince86 says:

    Milledge is absolutely terrible.

  325. Metfreak says:

We need a few more runs 1 is not enough

  326. nyj0126 says:

And Tatis does it too… Here comes Easley to deliver now… Murph to pinch hit soon too?

  327. miker94 says:

hahahahahha, i hate milledge. wow, he blows in the outfield! i coached against him when he was in h.s. and he was the same way then…

  328. nyj0126 says:

    Yup… Here he is

  329. MetsFan4Decades says:

And didn’t Smith get the win last night also?

  330. nyj0126 says:

i dont know with this move.. they could have done it for brian

  331. castilloiscrap says:

    lets go Irish Hammer!

  332. sandiegometsman says:

Delgado for President, Tatis for VP

  333. goody337 says:

mingo i wish that were true but heilman will def pitch again this season unless he get’s into an argument with eligah dukes as at bar after the game and dissapears

  334. khmustache says:

    SEND IN THE CLOWNS!!!!

  335. MetsFan4Decades says:

    HAHAHAHAHA
Gary ‘A comedy for the Nats’.

  336. nyj0126 says:

this doesn’t mean luis is in the game, does it? i’m taking argenis is the 2B next inning…

  337. Metfreak says:

    Thanks Lasting

  338. Tha Prowler says:

wTF is wrong w/ taht team??? this is like a big comedy

  339. CaveManJoe says:

ok, I sorta feel bad for milledge now.

  340. nyj0126 says:

    Screw you Lastings again

  341. EV says:

    That was really funny lol.

  342. therealsince86 says:

Better stick to rap son. LOL. Best trade the Mets ever made. Now they have 3 players playing for them. Church, Schnieder AND Milledge.

  343. nyj0126 says:

    It’s also Guzmans fault

  344. nyj0126 says:

    No double play Brian…

  345. nyj0126 says:

I got a feeling the bad bases loaded history for the Mets history is ending

  346. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Wow – just wow…..

  347. goody337 says:

    wow they’re bad

  348. khmustache says:

    SWEET!

and the bases aren’t loaded anymore!

  349. nyj0126 says:

Yup… There we go. A nice break (again)

  350. EV says:

Yea, HUGE RUN, let’s get some more!!!!!!!

  351. Metfreak says:

    NICE

  352. EV says:

    Yea Brian!!!!!

  353. khmustache says:

    SCHNEIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    dang he’s slow!

  354. castilloiscrap says:

    sac fly that shizz

  355. ksuth says:

    WOW!

    The Nats are awful…

  356. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup – new year, different team.
This is NOT your 2007 NY Mets.

  357. nyj0126 says:

When I say score more it says I post too quickly lol Good job Brian… I’m loving it

  358. castilloiscrap says:

    yeah runs!

  359. therealsince86 says:

Actually a good play by Schnieder going for 2nd.

  360. nyj0126 says:

This offense is awesome… 6 for 8 RISP

  361. gomets6091 says:

The Nats announcers have spent a few minutes this inning talking about how loud and basically awesome Mets fans are. I no longer rate them the worst announcers in baseball. We’ll give that title back to the Marlins announcers…

  362. stickguy says:

OK, guess all I had to do was ask for the runs!

The pen has to protect a 4 run lead for 2 innings, right? Right?

off to bed. Can’t wait to check the results at 6 tomorrow.

  363. metsomniac says:

This is why we will win this sept. unlike last year! refusing to go quietly despite a discouraging comeback by the Nats!!! LEt’s Go Mets!

  364. sandiegometsman says:

Let’s see if we can hold another lead.. Cmon boys hold on to your jockstraps..

  365. Metfreak says:

Can we keep this lead now please !!!!!

  366. nyj0126 says:

Let’s finish off this game easy now… Please no more runs by Washington lol Stokes in?

  367. khmustache says:

    nice inning

  368. MetsFan4Decades says:

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP

    I’m lovin’ it.

  369. therealsince86 says:

Why are they saying that not playing is showing in Awful Reyes bat? He never could hit. His OBP is like .111111111. You would think that with expanded rosters we could find someone else to ever pick up a bat besides him.

  370. atrain311 says:

I’m seriously starting to worry that I might be bipolar or something. I am a mean, agry a$$hole when the Mets are losing or blow leads…etc, but become so chipper and giddy the second ehy do well. Man, if I was my wife, I’d leave me. :)

  371. therealsince86 says:

I would not mind seeing AL Reyes here. You can have Stokes ready but it would be nice to finally see what he has.

  372. khmustache says:

    endy? what happend

  373. Tha Prowler says:

    endy stop daydreaming….wtf was that??

  374. nyj0126 says:

    come on brian

  375. Metfreak says:

Get somebody ready Stokes might be a little worned out

  376. castilloiscrap says:

    emilio

  377. khmustache says:

    oh poop

  378. castilloiscrap says:

    noooooo

  379. ksuth says:

I missed the beginning of the game. What’s with these hats? I like the color….

  380. EV says:

    Come on Stokes!!!!!!

  381. therealsince86 says:

    DP coming.

  382. nyj0126 says:

They have used Brian a lot lately… Same with Ayala but Stokes even more. They might have to give him a day or two over the weekend to get his arm back

  383. The Slider says:

Ugh. Sanchez warming up. Package him with Heilman.

  384. mookie says:

what the heck man? If I ever have kids i’m not sure I want them to become mets fans. The stress woud take years away from their lives.

  385. nyj0126 says:

thank you… if that ball had been fair i would have been pissed

  386. edwin nieves says:

Where are the freakin lefties? we cruising for a……

  387. MetsFan4Decades says:

I have faith in Stokes here. Get it done, Brian.
Seriously, might need to rest him a day or so.

  388. atrain311 says:

    Oh come on now.

  389. khmustache says:

    oh lord…

  390. nyj0126 says:

id at least give reyes a shot at some point

  391. EV says:

You got to be kidding me!!!!

  392. WrightsRight says:

Okay, someone make Guzman piss in a cup after the game…something’s fishy here.

  393. atrain311 says:

This is just sickening. I don’t even know what to say.

  394. CaveManJoe says:

    wow

  395. therealsince86 says:

    LOL, hee hee.
    Gnat, Gnat, Gnat.

  396. miker94 says:

seriously, what is wrong with these guys? come on already. the nats suck, can we PLEASE put them away??

  397. Gasface77 says:

Baseball is the strangest game isn’t it?

  398. el_giacomo says:

    :(

Stokes had been doing so well, too….sucks…

  399. nyj0126 says:

This isn’t good… Brian isn’t perfect. Get him out of there now. I just don’t think Duaner’s going to solve anything

  400. Tha Prowler says:

    some things NEVER change !!!!!

  401. Metfreak says:

    I give up

  402. edwin nieves says:

sorry guys but its obvious Manuel does not know what he is doing tonite with his pitchers!

  403. nyj0126 says:

All I can say is thank god for Schneider’s hit… Now just get out of it and tack on a couple next inning and let Ayala close it out against his old team quietly

  404. methead says:

I am not really worried but this is Jerry’s fault. He has fallen into the Willie world. First bringing in Heilman (where is Parnell and Perez??) and the bringing in Stokes AGAIN. Can you give the guy a day off???? really? Its a 4 run lead. The guy is tired!

  405. miker94 says:

we need about 43 runs in the bot. of the inning to be safe. especially if sanchez is coming in.

  406. sandiegometsman says:

OH MY GOD, I’M HAVING FLASHBACKS TO THE BULLPEN, AND PITCHING STAFF OF LAST YEAR… CMON GUYS.. HANG ON.. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY MINDBOGGLING… I MAY HAVE TO BRING OUT THE XANAX PRETTY SOON… WTF IS GOING ON HERE.?

  407. WrightsRight says:

okay…at least top of the order coming up…time for some tack-ons…

  408. MetsFan4Decades says:

And David’s glove does it again.

  409. nyj0126 says:

First number he’s hit 2 in a game.. only against the Mets, right? At least the offense is red hot. They got to carry it into the 9th like the Fish did to the Phils

    • nyj0126 says:

time*… see what this game and season is doing to my mind lol its making me think the word time is number

  410. miker94 says:

ok, it’s pretty obvious, stokes doesn’t have it, get him out NOW

  411. WrightsRight says:

Guzman has the exact same build as Castillo. He’s his twin. Except Guzman can apparently hit out of the infield.

  412. khmustache says:

still in the lead…we got this

  413. nyj0126 says:

Yup… David’s automatic with these tough plays. That’s why it is mind boggling when ever a random easy play screws with him

  414. methead says:

Stokes should not have been in the game. I swear…he seems to be in EVERY game. hahahahaha

This is not last year guys. Calm down and give me a break. The Nats are hot right now.

    • nyj0126 says:

Yup… It’s not like he’s been used to this. He was a starter in AAA for most of the year. His arm has to be taken care of. The day off tomorrow will help, but they got 17 in a row after that. Can’t go to him and Ayala (who’s having some groin problems) everyday… Same thing with Smith and Feliciano. They have to work other guys in there more like Show, Duaner and maybe Al Reyes… no Aaron Heilman, unless it’s a blow out

  415. atrain311 says:

Just come out on top. I don’t care if it’s pretty or not at this point. Just win this damn game.

  416. khmustache says:

    damn damn damn

  417. therealsince86 says:

    Wow, Reyes.

  418. khmustache says:

    nice…come on david

  419. The Slider says:

Just nail down the top of the 9th and we’re 3 1/2 games up with the Phillies limping into Milwaukee for 4.

  420. nyj0126 says:

Good eye Church… Now get the bat into David who’s done it 3 times tonight and the hot hitters

  421. HOFMets57 says:

Every time our bullpen falters, it pressures Omar a little more to do the thing that matters most this offseason.

    Sign K-Rod!!!

    • therealsince86 says:

      1A Sign Perez
      1B Sign Krod
      1C Pick up Delgado’s option
2 Whatever else you want to do.

      • Wrighton92 says:

I absolutely agree with 1B and 1C. However, I might avoid resigning Perez. Personally, I feel he will never turn a corner and become consistent. I feel someone like Burnett or Sheets would be a significant improvement. But, I wouldn’t be upset if we resigned him or anything. Just personal preference.
In terms of other things, there are a few players we just have to dump. Castillo, Heilman, Show, and maybe even Evans/Tatis/Pagan…Just one of those guys, because we will be overstocked at corner outfield next year, and those guys’ values are high. Send them somwhere for reliable arms for the pen or another good backup infielder.
Oh, and make sure we don’t resign Pedro. Maybe pick up someone like Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland on the cheap.
        Any more ideas, guys?

      • nyj0126 says:

Yup. Re-signing Perez and picking up Delgado’s options are the obvious moves. Delgado is in the Mets hands so that’s not even a question. With K-Rod, we’ll see what the Angels offer.

The only other movies I’d like to see are re-sign Tatis and/or Easley. And trade or buyout Luis Castillo if possible.

  422. therealsince86 says:

Should be 2 on and hot hitters coming up. Reyes should never swing at a ball that high. Just take the SO or walk there.

  423. nyj0126 says:

    No DP’s

  424. Steve in DC says:

    Finally

  425. MetsFan4Decades says:

    And he’s BACK!
    Da-Vid Wright !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • ags412 says:

Last night some people commented Wright should be dropped to the 5 hole. I said “Why fix a lineup that ain’t broken?” Somebody responded “Wright is broken”. I said “calm down, Wright will be fine”.

Probably the same people that wanted to cut Delgado…

      Let’s go Mets!!!

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

And just to be clear – that someone was not me. I knew he would come around. He’s just too pure of a talent to completely lose it.
As far as Mr. Delgado – although I never voiced it, I truly thought he was done. My bad, my wrong, my apologies.

  426. WrightsRight says:

nice, but i wish he went the other way…lol

  427. khmustache says:

    CLUTCH CLUTCH CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!1111

    DAVID WRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    4-4!!!!!!!!!!!11

  428. nyj0126 says:

And who says David can’t do it?

  429. goody337 says:

david taking that toe tap out is the greatest thing that has ever happened

  430. miker94 says:

    HUGE!!!!!!!!

  431. EV says:

DWRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who says he doesn’t get clutch hits lol.

  432. el_giacomo says:

    WELCOME BACK DAVID WRIGHT! :D

  433. atrain311 says:

    I swear when David came to the plate I started chanting 28 109 28 109 28 109!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooooooooooo

  434. WrightsRight says:

    giants 13
    skins 10

  435. therealsince86 says:

Hmmmmm. So not clutch. 4-4 with 4 amazing defensive plays.

  436. Wrighton92 says:

I think it’s fair to say his slump is over. Lol

  437. sandiegometsman says:

Let me correct myself.. Delgado for Pres, Wright for VP, Reyes for Secretary of State, Tatis Treasurer.. I know who im voting for.. This is absolutely, positively not the NY METS of last yr.. These motherf******’s do not quit and i’m actually proud of this team… UNREAL!!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, I think Wright has to be the Secretary of Defense. And we gotta get Beltran in there.

      • khmustache says:

        the secretary of the glide

      • sandiegometsman says:

I get where you’re going with this.. I think that we need to figure out a solid ticket.. Delgado, Wright, B-Tran, Reyes, have to be on the ballot. Tatis is on the ballot after his performance tonight.. Delgodo is def my President, and after tonight its only fair that Beltran is the VP, Reyes for Treasured and Wright for Secretary of Defense.. obama/ayala ‘08

      change you can believe in

      • therealsince86 says:

Except Ayala has much more experience in pressure situations without all the golden chariots.

        • zen says:

ayala was governor for 1 year. and is a few years younger than obama and has been on the national stage for 5 minutes. and has zero foreign policy experience and refuses to be interviewed.

and is a heartbeat from being president. a very old heart beat too ;)

  438. nyj0126 says:

Yes that slump is over lol Now the God is up

  439. goody337 says:

i’m not sure who pointed it out last night but him taking out that toe tap seems to make all the difference

    • therealsince86 says:

Should have had the Straw be his hitting coach. He could have practiced the Karate Kid timing device.

  440. stickguy says:

    shouldn’t have come back…

Stupid (actually Willie-esque) idea bringing in Stokes. He has been pitching a lot, and should be budgeted for tight situations. 4 run lead is the time to push an inning out of Sanchez or someone else to save wear on the key guys.

But at least DW seems to be out of the slump today. Nice time for a big jack.

So once again, can the pen hold a 3 run lead for 1 inning? I have no confidence at this point.

I hope whoever pitches tomorrow can give a nice 6-7 in a blowout and save the weqr and tear on the fans! and the pen…

anyway, just like last year, to heck with asthetics, just get a win any way possible. Ugly wins are better than pretty losses!

  441. nyj0126 says:

This offense has scored 13 without Delgado going on a tear… How amazing is that? Imagine if they had last night’s Delgado with all the runners on base when he was on + tonight… that’s 21-10 lol

  442. goody337 says:

i find it so funny how everybody complains bout how we dont tack on runs late, wright isnt clutch and beltran is overrated, and delgado blows (which i admit i agreed with) and everything evens out like it almost always does in basebll. the whole time i was thinknig if we get hot late and ride the wave into oct. this season could be magical

  443. therealsince86 says:

I have seen Phillies trolls be called out on here before. What about Mets trolls. Where are the guys that continued to call Wrigth Drod and the most unclutch player ever, etc. Why do they only show up when he is 0-4?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yeah – what ever happened to ‘Angry Fan’ ?

      • therealsince86 says:

Wasn’t just him. The entire Phillies series was terrible on here. Full of Phillies and Mets trolls.

      • khmustache says:

they only show up on losses to berate the team that they’re supposedly fans of…don’t worry, if the mets actually win something this year they’ll be the first ones in line for the merchandise

  444. BLUEXORANGE says:

06 david wright….no more leg kick..know one notices but me…ive been saying it over and over and over for the past 2 days..no more leg kick look closely..he has his 06 stance back

  445. goody337 says:

thats one of the points i was trying to make thereal

  446. goody337 says:

i gave u probs on that call bluexorange

  447. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Very nice Reyes, Jr.

  448. el_giacomo says:

    1 down…

  449. MetsFan4Decades says:

What a complete JO that Dukes is.

    • atrain311 says:

I love the way Gary tells it like it is.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

You’ve got that right. I can’t believe ML baseball even lets someone that crazy on anyone’s roster.

        • nyj0126 says:

Because the Rays don’t cut guy’s like him and Delmon Young loose lol Because they think they are talented. And they are. But they don’t develop. Guy’s with these kinds of problems never truly get all of their potential. He’s like Ron Artest and he’s a good ball player, but you don’t see him making All-Star teams. Yao has little respect for him. It’s sad really…

  450. nyj0126 says:

    immaturity and entertaining lol

  451. el_giacomo says:

    1 more, c’mon Ayala!

  452. nyj0126 says:

who’ll win the trade in this at bat?

  453. nyj0126 says:

i hate to admit it but billy would have made this interesting more interesting lol

  454. Metfreak says:

If Dukes was not in the Majors he would be in Jail

    • nyj0126 says:

He wouldn’t enjoy it in there either lol Usually the guy’s who think they’re tough come out sounding like Mike Tyson when it’s all said and done

  455. stickguy says:

I dont know what is more amazing. Anderson Hernandez is being sent up as a PH, or that he is hitting .372!

  456. nyj0126 says:

who was acta yelling at? the ump or anderson? and why was lenny smiling and why it wiped off so quick? lol

    Mets win!!!

  457. el_giacomo says:

    Alright!

  458. metsforever says:

Why is Al Reyes on this team? If we have all of these extra pithcers, what is the point of wearing out the same ones every night?

They did this last year too.

    • nyj0126 says:

it doesn’t make any sense. they bring him here to try to help out in short relief, but they don’t even give him a shot once. yet they give brandon knight a shot… it doesn’t make any sense. oh well.

  459. Wrighton92 says:

    put it in the books!

  460. Metfreak says:

Yes this is not your 07 Mets

  461. ksuth says:

    Magic #: 13

  462. atrain311 says:

Gentlemen, it’s been a wild ride and I’m going to sleep well now. Thanks for sharing the roller coaster with me. Night all! Go Mets!

  463. miker94 says:

3 and 1/2 games baby! woo hoo!

  464. MetsFan4Decades says:

And that will do it! Nice going Alaya.

17 games left to play. Very scary number. I have every confidence this will not be like the last 17 games last season.

  465. goody337 says:

listening to the nats commentaters ayala was terrible in wash. its nice to see a change of scenary work out for the mets for once. usually we give them aways and they become dominant

    • nyj0126 says:

yup. i mean at least they got anderson hernandez out of us so they can’t be that mad with ayala. ayala needed a fresh start and hernandez needed a chance in a place with little pressure.

  466. EV says:

    YEA CRAZY GAME, NICE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  467. Ryn05 says:

Here’s what the voice on the machine says:

“Hey, dawg. It’s on, dawg. You dead, dawg. I ain’t even bulls——-. Your kids too, dawg. It don’t even matter to me who is in the car with you. N—–, all I know is, n—–, when I see your m—–f——- a– riding, dawg, it’s on. As a matter of fact, I’m coming to your m—–f—— house.”

She also says Dukes called her and told her to check her cell phone.

He sent a text message with a photo of a handgun, she said.

    • nyj0126 says:

Will he go in his 20’s or 30’s? lol That’s the question. His emotional state says it’ll be at his own cause

  468. The Slider says:

Wooo hoooo! Mets win! Mets win!

Time to put our cletes on the Phillies’ collective necks and break them.

  469. metsforever says:

2008 is here. This would have been a loss last year.

  470. khmustache says:

    DONE AND DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

  471. rp1994 says:

    mets win!
yes and what was impressie was that it was wright not delgado that carried the team today

  472. grotesmask says:

    Absolutely exhausting!

Thank God there are only nine innings!

  473. Stems says:

    WHEW!!!!!!!

OK we got ALL the bad pitching for this month out of our system right guys?!?!

  474. zen says:

    Magic # = 30

  475. metsfan42793 says:

Where is my best friend chokeartistmets. I haven’t seen him since the end of game one on sunday.

  476. EV says:

I hope so sterns, thank god we got the ACE going Friday night.

  477. Two-By-Four says:

This was a fun game with a happy outcome. Mets win by a field goal.

  478. nyr2k2 says:

Man, almost 700 comments? Back in the day, a game thread would have like 50 comments, and from about 10 people. This blog has come a long way.

    • nyj0126 says:

Yup. Everyone uses the internet now lol It was even more last night. Like 740. The thing with MLB.com allows more people to watch now too… It’s usually the same regular 50 or so… Come the playoffs they’ll be some people we never saw before too. Bandwagoners… You can tell who’s been here all year watching these games…

  479. MetsFan4Decades says:

Very happy we won tonight but man, this starting pitching (minus Johan), needs to step it up. Can’t go just 4-5 innings. We know what happens when we see the BP night after night for several innings. And with no more off days after tomorrow, they’ll be toast.

  480. rederick says:

I had the Mets by a field goal in the office pool! Yes! Now, where’s my Maalox…?

  481. nyj0126 says:

I’m just very happy with this win… You know they’ll never come easy. They can now carry the momentum against the Braves. I’d love to see them sweep them. It’s still kind of nice beating up on the Braves who got a couple people from the teams who used to beat up on us… Chipper Jones, Bobby Cox and even Tom Glavine

  482. gomets6091 says:

and somehow THIS makes it past the censors…
