Read: Today in the NL East
By David Pinto - Sep 11, 2008 5:43 pm

Chipper Jones regained the NL batting average lead Wednesday night. He collected eight hits in his last fourteen at bats to raise his batting average to .363, one point ahead of Albert Pujols.

Sam Donnellon notes some quality stats about the Phillies rotation. The are second in innings pitched, third in quality starts and tied for first in shutouts.

With their win Wednesday night, the Marlins lead the season series with the Phillies 9-6. Jorge Cantu generated a good deal of the offense, hitting five home runs, driving in 14 runs and scoring 13. He knocked out 21 hits in the 14 games he played against Philadelphia.

The Nationals visit the Marlins over the weekend. They have only won two of twelve games against Florida so far and trail in the series by 30 runs, 79-49. Shairon Martis starts for Washington in game one of the series. Martis brings excellent minor league home run allowed numbers against a power hitting team.

So the Phillies’ rotation is “better” than ours?

off topic, but MLB tv just announced that they’ll have home and away feeds for all games now. no more listening to those clowns that get paid to do marlins games!

Well, since they’re not playing tonight and the Brewers are playing the Phils, I was rooting for MI to win.
Did this go over your head?

It’s a given - as always - Let’s Go Mets!

And in case anyone is interested: SNY is replaying the first game played at Shea after 911.

Ryan Howard with a moonball over the wall in center. 2-0 Phils.

Side note, Bob Uecker should do his Major League routine for the games.

look at it this way. If the Phils win today we’re tied in the wild card.

as much as i want the brewers to win…i want the phills to catch up so we can always fall back on the wild card.

plus if the phills win wild card then we play the dodgers/dbacks which i think is better than playing brewers.
the brewers to me are very threatening with cc and sheets at the top starting the first two games. i honestly wouldnt see the mets winning either

i would much rather just have the Brewers bury the Phils so we can go up 5 in the loss column

While I agree that CC/Sheets is a daunting task for a series, the Mets seemed to handle the Brewers pretty well last time, so if that’s what it comes to, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.
And yes, I know we didn’t see CC that time.

I have a feeling the Brewers are going to blow this…again (since we took all the pub last year from the Brewers and Padres, who also collapsed).

If we take care of the Braves this weekend I think we’ll end the weekend a few games up on the Brewers and with hte same lead on the Phillies.

We definitely want the Brewers to bury the Phils or at least just not get swept. We can worry about the other teams after we win the division. The Mets are a great team and need to once and for all erase the 2007 hangover. (This lineup should be able to handle Sheets.)
