John Delcos had been the Mets beat writer for the Journal News, and writer of their Mets Blog.
Unfortunately, Delcos was laid off by the Journal News.
However, he has since returned to the blogosphere with NY Mets Report.
Also, he and NYSD’s Joe McDonald have teamed up for a live, weekly podcast using Blog Talk Radio, which you can learn more about by clicking here.
I am happy for John, who I have talked with about blogging, writing, reporting, etc., on countless occasions, as I try to learn more about old media, and as he tries to learn about new media. I wish him the best of luck on his new blog.
What’s most interesting here, though, is that, despite no longer working for a newspaper, John continues to have press credentials as he is a member of the Baseball Writers Associated of America – meaning, as of now, he is a credentialed, independent ‘blogger,’ having started in newspaper, but now living only in the blogosphere.
I wonder what Buzz Bissinger would say about this.

I wonder what Buzz Bissinger would say about this.
No doubt it would involve copious amounts of spittle.
He’d probably ask Delcos if he knew who W.C. Heinz was.
John Delcos looks like Dennis the Menace on Vicodin.
I am so happy to have found John Delcos. We miss him at the Journal News. A go getter reporter who went after every story and got details. Sure, he was critical, but honest and you knew the real story. It is a shame Gannett streamlined as they did. You go John. Good luck.
He’s probably say “John you *&^!@ little *&*$! traitor @#$%^. You and your medium are @#$% pieces of #$%^&!. Get out of your mother’s basement and try being a professional like me.”
Good for John. A link from his blog is how I discovered Metsblog.
Yeah magic number!
Take the Magic Number down!!! What is wrong with you?
I think I just peed myself. Get that damn thing off of here.
matt, “are you fukinng with me”
I thought we voted not to put it up.
Never cared for Delcos. He ripped Santana in ST when Santana came off annoyed to a question Delcos acted.
Delcos was very opinionated on the newspapers blog much of the early year and was very critical of the Mets. Not surprising he was let go by them. Slimey industry more often then not…
I always really liked Delcos. He was critical at times of the Mets, but he also quite frequently would argue that fans were going overboard with the venom they were directing toward certain players. Most of all, on his blog he really made fans feel like he wanted them to participate in the discussion, he regularly solicited their views on various questions. And he would often respond.
John Delcos is a great guy, and I am glad to see that he has joined us ‘bloggers’
When I was reporting for SNY this past spring, he couldn’t have been more down to earth and welcoming for someone who was pretty overwhelmed at being in a Major League locker room for the first time.
Good luck John and I look forward to following you in your new ventures.
