Yesterday, I ran a poll asking when I should post the team’s Magic Number – and, while 44 percent said, ‘Never,’ the majority were not as paranoid, essentially wanting it to appear right around now.

A Phanatic is a big, green thing with a huge schnoz that thinks its better than everyone else, but is really as big a loser as the team and players it supports.

Actually, only 355 voted for the Magin Number to be posted between 15 and 10. There were 2062 votes to not post at all and 1907 votes to post between 10 and 0.
Nevertheless, I’m with it and ready to countdown.

For all those against putting the magic number up, the jinx obsessors - just think about how good it’ll feel when the mets DO win the division. Maybe it won’t completely erase last year’s meltdown, but it’ll help the sting.
Besides, the people yelling JINX! have to be aware of how contradictory that is. There are countless people “jinxing” whatever it is you dont want jinxed with relation to the Mets, Knicks, whatever. For you to just credit blame to, let’s say Cerrone, for putting the magic number up, means you’re applying the jinx rules to whoever you want without consistency with the principle of jinxing.
Therefore, jinxing is nonsensical and LETS GO MET SBABY WOOOOOO

I was hoping this year you’d have Mr Met moving closer to phanatic, eventually reaching out and strangling him, or stepping on his throat, or sliding a knife slowly into his heart like the german in Saving Pvt Ryan or something. I guess that’s not exactly family friendly, though.

I, probably like most, have some superstitions when it comes to baseball, but they usually involve things watching the game itself.
I have no problem posting the Magic number now. In fact, I’m gonna get stubborn about it and say it can’t possibly make any difference and we’re just gonna see it go down and down till it’s at zero.

I don’t think Mets fans are pessimists. In fact I think we’re believers till the end.
I was at game 162 last year and even after I heard the score in the 2nd (I was parking the car), I still went to the game because I believed they would come back and win. Throughout the game, the fans tried to cheer on the team despite being let down inning after inning. It wasn’t until the last out that fans finally gave up. Like so many have said, “This year is different”. Met fans will always believe.
