what is wrong with mlb.tv?

wa2k99 September 13, 2008 at 9:29 pm

Great job John.

MLB.TV should give all subscribers some compensation for not being able to see the game.

Jova1931 September 13, 2008 at 7:33 pm

You can put game 1 on Manuel. I said it in the 7th inning, Santana should not pitch the 8th. At the end of the 6th and seventh the Braves were hitting the ball hard against him. He should have never started the 8th.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 7:38 pm

he has had good luck pushing johan the last few starts, but it did not work out this time. i agree from i could gather, that he was getting hit and was fortunate to get through 7 with no runs given up.

i put this loss on everyone. offense. pen. manuel. all of them. just a team loss all around. if the offense does better with their chances, sure, they whole game is different, but they didn’t and after that there was on execution from the pen either.

they just need to get this one to get back on track and go for the series win tomorrow. no doubt about though, tonight is a much bigger game now

patrick September 13, 2008 at 10:57 pm

good luck or pushing Santana aside, Brian Stokes had a nice run, but you can NOT bring him in the 8th inning of every game, he even had him WARMING up in the 8th of game two.

koosman September 14, 2008 at 9:27 am

Put it on the offense. Hampton was not sharp at all and they had him on the ropes several times. That game should have been like 6 or 7-0 by the 8th but the bats took the game off.

tinathemetsgrl September 13, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Yeah, why is this game not on MLB.TV? Did they not get an agreement with SNY to feed the game? What’s going on?

skylog September 13, 2008 at 7:39 pm

needless to say i am quite irritated. i went from seeing both games, to none. blast. well, usc/osu it is for me.

Jersey Shore Mets September 13, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Damn MLB.tv. Now I have to again listen on the radio feed.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 7:40 pm

i just don’t get it. really ticked off now.

ccmetfan September 13, 2008 at 7:39 pm

Mets should win the games when Chipper isn’t playing. Since they didn’t do much in the afternoon, they should have enough energy to score at least 5 runs tonight.

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 7:40 pm

O.K.., I’m done with this Kelly Johnson.

EV September 13, 2008 at 7:40 pm

I think MLB.tv doesn’t recognize double headers because there are 3 going and none of them are on there.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 7:45 pm

i can get in on the sox game. garbage

therealsince86 September 13, 2008 at 7:41 pm

So I guess I won’t get to watch this game? What is up with MLBTV?

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 7:42 pm

nice inning niese

EV September 13, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Good first half inning Niese.

mylegshurt September 13, 2008 at 7:44 pm

I can’t think of any other player in major league history named Jo-Jo.

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 7:47 pm

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 7:47 pm

skylog September 13, 2008 at 7:48 pm

EV September 13, 2008 at 7:53 pm

He hit a two run bomb.

Prismo September 13, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Great, I pay over $15 a month for mlb.tv premium and miss out on an entire double-header in SEPTEMBER in a PENNANT RACE. I know many of you feel the same way. This is terrible. I’m getting a slingbox. **** you major league baseball, fox, espn, etc etc etc.

mdguy429 September 13, 2008 at 7:52 pm

I hear ya. I posted on their help forum and asked if this is being shown. No answer yet. But next year, I’m either gonna do slingbox or the TV package.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 7:54 pm

agreed. i have really had no complaints the past few years, but how can this game not be on? i just don’t like the tv package either, but i think i will have to go that route next season.

wasn’t there talk of a mlb channel next season or something? how is it so hard to get this right?

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 7:56 pm

the mlb channel starts in january of next year

skylog September 13, 2008 at 8:00 pm

thanks for the info, i will see what it is about

tinathemetsgrl September 13, 2008 at 7:51 pm

i actually like it on the radio! not bad!

Dafatone80 September 13, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Without trying to sound too anti Wright-haters, because Wright has been struggling some this season…

That’s yet another huge homer by Wright that won’t show up in all those “he doesn’t hit with men in RISP or late in games!” stats.

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 7:51 pm

wow…standing steal of third…don’t see that much

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 7:52 pm

And Tatis comes through !!

EV September 13, 2008 at 7:52 pm

EV September 13, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Yea Niese!!!!

dominicanboy08 September 13, 2008 at 8:01 pm

man, niese has a good 12-6 curveball.

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Niese doing pretty good so far.
Another a couple of runs for the young guy, boys.

sincekindergarten September 13, 2008 at 8:02 pm

As Niese gets Sammons to ground out to end the second inning, I’ve noticed something between Niese’s first start, where he admitted that he was nervous, and this one. He’s pretty calm at the moment. It wouldn’t surprise me if Dan Warthen, Pedro, Santana, et al., got to him and talked him up.

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 13, 2008 at 8:06 pm

I totally took a nap between games. I would recommend that for anyone next time, especially after a game one loss

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Tina September 13, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Re mlb.tv, the mlb story about the doubleheaders today reads:

“Sixteen of the 20 games on today’s slate will be available for fans to watch.”

So, as there are 6 doubleheaders to day, 4 scheduled late after Friday’s rainout, apparently those 4 are the ones that are not available. God knows why. Maybe permissions are needed, and they couldn’t be bothered with doing that this morning?

It’s very annoying, to be shut out of both games today.

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:12 pm

I can’t blame you for being annoyed. It’s all about business and nothing else.

Luckily, I’m in both the FOX/Met game and SNY market….

skylog September 13, 2008 at 8:15 pm

i was all excited to get sny through a dish service when i purchased my tv a few weeks ago, when i found out my building does not allow dishes.

so i had to settle for comcast, very sad, sad indeed. no sny for me

skylog September 13, 2008 at 8:13 pm

still garbage. they won’t let us watch any of the fox options, now they won’t have all the games up? unreal.

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 8:11 pm

gorgeous curve there

mookie September 13, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Can anyone tell me why Daniel Murphy is not starting? I’m not complaining but I think hes earned a start here or there.

therealsince86 September 13, 2008 at 8:14 pm

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 8:11 pm

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:13 pm

EV September 13, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Yes he was, he obviously didn’t have it.

therealsince86 September 13, 2008 at 8:15 pm

stike didn’t and put does not ever.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 8:16 pm

can’t get all giddy here, they need more runs.

das320 September 13, 2008 at 8:16 pm

I cannot believe the difference with the announcing with Game 1 vs Game 2. I like Howie Rose a lot too. But this game’s announcing has just been amazing (I guess because they are winning too)

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 13, 2008 at 8:16 pm

I HATE CASTILLO. SERIOUSLY THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO USE ALL CAPS! HE SUCKS WHY CANT HE JUST FLY OUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE THAT JUST GET IT OUT OF THE FREAKING INFIELD

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Well, to be fair, if the pitcher didn’t stick his foot to stop the ball, it might have went up the middle for a single….

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 8:29 pm

to be fair that was a pretty lucky play there for buddy…that being said i do hate castillo as well

baball914 September 13, 2008 at 8:32 pm

at shea? do they do the same in between innings commercials for the 2nd game as they do for first?

and is howie rose back on radio for 2nd game? (wfan)

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 8:33 pm

did keith hernandez just say those fans needed to be cut off? isn’t that like robinson cancel saying they need to eat less?

metsfan42793 September 13, 2008 at 8:33 pm

gary cohen gets a curtain call

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Nice curve, Niese.

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Sigh..
I think they need to stay away from bases loaded. Just put two on and keep sending them home.

EV September 13, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Same result as usual lol.

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 8:51 pm

when did the braves switch their road unis to these awful dark blue ones? they look more terrible than usual

das320 September 13, 2008 at 9:10 pm

nice work rook

ASod1975 September 13, 2008 at 9:13 pm

That’s why they play the games. Where’s furioso from the other thread (probably a Phillies troll). He kept going on and on about how the Mets were dead because Niese was a piece of crap. First of all, pretty clueless to judge a guy on one start. Second, there was a reason why many teams wanted this guy and Omar didn’t want to give him up. He’s 21. Even perennial All-Star pitchers like Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson struggled early in their careers, so you can’t kill a guy on one bad start, one where he was noticeably nervous. He was much better tonight, in a game the Mets really would love to win. Six shutout innings, nice job rook!

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Yup. Agreed.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 9:26 pm

i am by no means defending anyone, but that first game loss was still horrible. if they go one to win this one, it still won’t change the fact that they could have been just one game closer.

that said, let’s go, get this one

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 9:47 pm

agreed, but the fact that some supposed fans are ready to give up on the season, and have been all year, with each loss is getting to be a very old act.

the Straw September 13, 2008 at 9:12 pm

hes throwing a lot of Curve balls….but how fast is his fastball clocking in?

dominicanboy08 September 13, 2008 at 9:13 pm

90-91 MPH

changeup, 83-84 mph. I’m really excited about this kid, his secondary pitches are a lot more refined than Pelfrey’s was at this age.

dominicanboy08 September 13, 2008 at 9:36 pm

yes, he is only 21. he can be a decent number 3-4 starter for us

Wrighton92 September 14, 2008 at 12:46 am

based on this, he could be better
who knows?
he’s still young

wa2k99 September 13, 2008 at 9:35 pm

nice to strike out kelly johnson finally…i’m liking this niese kid. i know that murphy, evans, niese and a-rey are going to have some growing pains as they mature, so i’m not gonna go yankee crazy (shane spencer, shelley duncan) over these guys, but i do wonder why the mets farm system was so lightly regarded. their rookies have stepped up more than any other call ups in the majors. i guess it just goes to show that you never know…

I know it’s not over yet, but I fully expected them to win at least one of these games today. This wasn’t the one though. Who would have thought?

Every time someone went down this year, someone stepped up to pick up the slack. Nice job by all.

skylog September 13, 2008 at 9:49 pm

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 9:48 pm

ITS NOT CHIPPER ITS LARRY!!!!!!

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 10:04 pm

which is still a stupid name

stickguy September 13, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Geez, go out for my anniversary up 2-0, and come back to find out the vanishing offense and spit the bit BP are back.

Good thing the stopper was going in game 2! quite an improvement from his first start. Maybe this will settle down the “he isn’t ready, etc.” crowd. As in, maybe he can contribute next year!

Now, the big questions:

1) will the pen be able to hold a 5 run lead for 1 inning?

2) are the Phils going to off on one of there occasional winning streaks (and they have been pretty streaky this year)

2.5 if the pen holds, 1 game off the magic number. At least the phils play their 2 tomorrow, and they better not sweep! get it back up to 3 game lead and the MN down to 11 and it will be a successful day.

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 9:53 pm

1. Yes
2. No

3. Happy Anniversary, dude.

dominicanboy08 September 13, 2008 at 9:51 pm

wow. pelfrey and niese. all of the sudden we are producing quality starting pitching. gotta give credit to omar for signing these prospects.

rockets212 September 13, 2008 at 9:52 pm

so do you think niese had first game butterflies and well see a solid pitcher from now on or do you think he needs a lot more work in the minors.
Because i think this game is similar to pelfrey’s game last september and i think all he needs is confidence. I hope he is a full time member of the rotation next year and he will be similar to pelfrey, as maybe a tough first half but will rebound and have a solid second half.

anyone please respond because i am very excited about niese

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 9:54 pm

Well, I’m no scout but someone obviously sees something in this kid. I’ve got my fingers crossed.
Nice curveball.

Nate W. September 13, 2008 at 9:58 pm

The stuff is clearly there, he has two big league pitches and the curve can be top rate. I look forward to seeing start #3 to see if he can have a solid start backing this one up.

The Braves have had a strong offensive year. Despite tonight being a somewhat diminished lineup, Niese is not doing this against a AAA lineup. Give him credit.

Young pitchers are up and down. Niese in 2009 would probably be more like 2007 Pelfrey than 2008 Pelfrey just because it would be his first time around the league.

rockets212 September 13, 2008 at 10:06 pm

i understand what ur saying but niese has more minor league innings then pelfrey, so all i think he needs is time in the big leagues and innings, like pelfrey did this year.

smm140 September 13, 2008 at 10:10 pm

he did look good, but i wouldn’t get too excited about anyone going through that braves lineup. it looked pretty pathetic. as much as i can’t stand the guy, i’ve never seen a bobby cox team look like that.

Constnza81V2.0 September 14, 2008 at 7:48 am

As long as he’s throwing strikes, Niese has the kind of stuff that can baffle hitters the first time through the league. The real test is how he performs the second and third times through…. my guess is he’ll be good, get smacked around a bit, then go back to being good. Just be patient with him

X-Man September 13, 2008 at 9:52 pm

Murphy should start more games. It seems every time the guy comes to the plate he gets a hit. Unbelievable.

dominicanboy08 September 13, 2008 at 9:53 pm

I have a question, how many players can a team have in the playoffs?

rockets212 September 13, 2008 at 9:54 pm

25

dominicanboy08 September 13, 2008 at 9:56 pm

thanks!

Nate W. September 13, 2008 at 10:08 pm

25 each series. (to be technical)

teams can change their roster between playoff rounds.

Nate W. September 13, 2008 at 9:54 pm

informal poll.

Do you pitch Niese in Atlanta against the Braves?

The Mets wont need a starter as Perez, Pedro, and Pelfrey would be on turn to pitch in Atlanta, but after the way he pitched tonight maybe they push back Pelf.

1) start Niese against the Braves in Atlanta.

2) avoid letting the Braves see him twice and start Niese against the Cubs instead.

3) He thrown too many innings, send him home for the year.

rockets212 September 13, 2008 at 9:57 pm

well its defidently not 3 ill say let him face the cubbies becuase itll be a home game and he needs to be at home with he home crowd.

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 9:58 pm

agreed…let him face the cubs, who will hopefully have their division wrapped up by then and are resting some big guys

Nate W. September 13, 2008 at 10:06 pm

I think thats the way I’m leaning as well. The Cubs have been struggling a bit lately and they arent as formidable an offensive team as they were for most of the year.

metsforever September 13, 2008 at 10:03 pm

Based on the way the Mets hit call ups and first timers, I say pitch against the Cubs

stickguy September 13, 2008 at 9:57 pm

why waste Ayala up by 5? doesn’t he still have an iffy groin? No need to burn the dude out in this game.

Nate W. September 13, 2008 at 10:01 pm

yes, let Heilman pitch this meaningless inning…

you have been watching this pen blow 5+ run leads all year right? So why even mess with it?

duanersanchez September 13, 2008 at 10:36 pm

gota win games at all costs…

hopefully they clinch this up with a week or so go, then all the players and pitchers can get their much needed rest.

mr.gee21 September 14, 2008 at 4:26 am

I don’t trust Heilman with *only* a five run lead…

MznMts86 September 13, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Has Jerry thought about using Murphy at 2nd instead of Castillo? Can anybody even remember the last time Castillo did anything to help this team?

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 9:59 pm

he had a good play last inning…still don’t like him though

rockets212 September 13, 2008 at 9:57 pm

niese in the rotation next year? i know its a small sample but…

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 10:00 pm

it’ll depend on their offseason, don’t resign ollie/free agent then niese will be the fifth guy.

Nate W. September 13, 2008 at 10:04 pm

Actually, I think if they sign some free agents and have a strong front four then they can use Niese and ride the ups and downs. Kind of like the plan going into 2007 with Pelfrey and four top starters.

If they only have Santana, Pelfrey, and Maine then they probably need someone(s) a little more reliably mediocre like a Silva to round out the rotation.

Wrighton92 September 13, 2008 at 11:17 pm

or they could sign burnett

Sylar September 13, 2008 at 9:58 pm

Why is Ayala being used in this game? Wouldn’t it be a perfect opportunity for Parnell or Reyes?

rockets212 September 13, 2008 at 9:59 pm

ayala??? why, we dont got a game off for the rest of the year you need to save him. this might screw up things in a few days if ayala cant go and we got to throw heilman or someone else out there for a save opp

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 10:00 pm

love the tomahawk chop

Koko September 13, 2008 at 10:04 pm

Because he’s time off and needs regular work.

That is my guess.

Koko September 13, 2008 at 10:05 pm

He had time off**

khmustache September 13, 2008 at 10:01 pm

DONE AND DONE!!!!!!!! GAMEBALL JON NIESE!!!!!!!!! NICE GAME ROOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

MetsFan4Decades September 13, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Put it in the books!

Big, big props to Niese. Not the game I thought we’d win but I’ll take it!!

EV September 13, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Great Job Niese!!!!!!

wa2k99 September 13, 2008 at 10:03 pm

Got the split. Let’s win tomorrow.

ReyesMets September 13, 2008 at 10:09 pm

I know the loss in the first game was brutal but…that’s 2 more games we just chopped off our schedule and we’re still 3 up in the loss column…

rM teM September 13, 2008 at 10:15 pm

DON’T TRADE THIS KID!

D-Day September 13, 2008 at 10:26 pm

big win (arent they all at this point) niese is gonna do good things for us down the stretch. lets get the win tomorrow and take the series! with the phillies doing there double header tomorrow, and we all know how hard it is to win both games of a double header, we can get back some ground. brew crew needs to wake up! anyway, lets handle our business tomorrow. LETS GO METS!!!!!

patrick September 13, 2008 at 11:09 pm

The Phillies are playing the Brewers.

Look you HAVE to win tomorrow. Home game, terrible opponent. You have to win irrespective of the Phillies outcome.

If the Phillies split the Mets basically hold serve for the weekend, but if the Phillies sweep at least you keep it at two.

EliPorter September 13, 2008 at 10:32 pm

there were 20-25 posts about the magic number in the last in game thread…. there was exactly 1 in this thread (excluding this comment)….

keep the magic number up

its absolutely inane to believe that what is written on the internet has an effect on whether the mets win or lose…. i wonder how many players on the mets read this website, let alone read english (endy, ayala)

HangingSlider September 13, 2008 at 11:03 pm

f uck you.

Prismo September 13, 2008 at 11:15 pm

Dude, chill out.

hotchipwillbreakyourlegs September 14, 2008 at 12:05 am

HAAHAHAH

el_giacomo September 13, 2008 at 11:54 pm

I think for a lot of people, it’s not so much the jinx/superstition, but more the fact that simple graphic was a horrible, haunting memory of the collapse last year…

mookie September 14, 2008 at 1:04 am

Take it down. How’s that for representation.

Two-By-Four September 13, 2008 at 10:51 pm

Niese……..Hmmm……..Nice. :)

patrick September 13, 2008 at 11:17 pm

If that silly black magic number has to be up, at least knock one off to thirteen.

el_giacomo September 13, 2008 at 11:52 pm

If we ain’t even gonna get a postGame thread, we sure as hell ain’t gettin’ any updates to the standings/magic number…

ksuth September 14, 2008 at 12:51 am

….looks like the writers for a certain blog are all drunk.

FlightFromHouston September 14, 2008 at 1:40 am

This is HUGE … Niese can actually pitch… and we traded Humber and Mulvey for Johan, LOL

BSMITTYFDNY September 14, 2008 at 5:17 am

He did look outstanding however its only one game. He isnt the next coming of Dwight Gooden just yet.

patrick September 14, 2008 at 7:55 am

Lots of guys can have a nice game, but I will say this, for all the experts who said the Mets system was a joke…

Daniel Murphy, Nick Evans, Jonathan Niese.

BSMITTYFDNY September 14, 2008 at 5:19 am

Nice start by Niese but he has a long way to go.

metsfanmurph September 14, 2008 at 8:46 am

Thats a great point, our farm system has been a pivitol role in being in first place. Between Niese, Murphy, Evans and the other Reyes.

patrick September 14, 2008 at 9:39 am

Really can’t take credit for Reyes he was a rule V off the Indians I think, and he has been a decent plug here and there, but Evans, Murphy and Niese will be on this team next year without a doubt.

Salz September 14, 2008 at 9:48 am

I like the idea of Santana/Lowe/Maine/Pelf/Niese next year. I think Oly will be to expensive and Sabathia/Sheets will go elsewhere. It’s obvious Minaya is gonna go all out for KRod, so expect that to be where we spend the most money. We may also sign a left fielder, although there’s not to much available. Wherever we put Murphy, there will be a void at the other position he could have played at… so we will be signing a LF or 2B, absolutely. I’d avoid Hudson because of his splits; he’s great in the hitter friendly Chase Field, but not that good on the road.
