Health: Easley’s Quad
By Matthew Cerrone - Sep 14, 2008 4:30 pm

The Mets told reporters today that Damion Easley had an MRI on his right quadricep early Sunday morning.

According to a report in the Daily News, Easley said he felt a ‘pop,’ in the quad, during yesterday’s double header.

    Here we go again. . . .

No, not with a “Collapse” (three game lead isn’t much of a “collapse”). No, it’s chicken little Met fans venting, swearing they’ll never watch another game, then other, insecure Met fans made uncomfortable reading doom and gloom venting right back at them, calling them fairweather fans, then various people writing Chicken Soup crap about how gosh-gee-golly exciting baseball is when the Mets blow leads, then the angry “Fire Omar!” fans calling the angry “Gotta Believe” fans “polyannas”, and everybody wanting someone fired.

Ick. I’m sick of going around in circles. Of course, I don’t pretend to be above it all. The common thread is frustration, and I’m as frustrated as anyone.

Just win, guys, and make everyone’s lives easier.

    • apingicer says:

Winning does cure all, you’re right. But with the bullpen’s state as it is, they can’t win. It’s a no win situation for Jerry right now. With a chance at the postseason, he can’t leave the starters in for more than 100-120 pitches, for fear of wearing them out before the playoffs. On the other hand, there is not one person in the ‘pen that can be trusted right now.

‘Just win, guys, and make everyone’s lives easier’.

I’m pretty sure that’s the exact same sentiment from every ‘pollyanna’ to every ‘fire everyone’ poster on this site….

the magic number on this site isn’t going to kill the mets. they’ll take care of that themselves.

Bad series. You couldn’t expect Phil. to sweep, but they did and now it’s a little more stressful.

    Non game vents:
1 - why don’t we get a pre-game when the game is on CW11? Same guys, I think it sux. SNY should always have coverage before and after.

2 - metsblog USED to be where I went first before and after games. Site is lacking in the update department. Had to go to ESPN to see the starting lineup today.

    • apingicer says:

Agreed. This site has become WAY too commercialized, but, if you want Mets news and rumors, this is pretty much the only place to go. ESPN doesn’t pick up a story until Buster Olney reports it. SI doesn’t do anything until Heyman says it. Mets.com doesn’t report it until it’s official.

  3. ccmetfan says:

Anyone keeping track on Carlos Zambrano’s game?

  4. kickingmule says:

I love those who complain that they are not getting their money’s worth on a free site !!!!

    • rollinsisgay says:

yeah this site is a freakin rip-off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should be paying me to come here! lol

    • niteplanner says:

It’s not about getting your money’s worth - its about having a place to go to consult with other fans of that team.
When a game is on SNY, I always tune in for the pregame to learn something I may not be aware of. When I’m in my car, I always tune into the FAN for that same reason. Kevin and Ed always give some info that you may not hear in a game. Metsblog became a part of my daily ritual because it was informative. There is a big following of this site with a plethora of bloggers - there’s no reason to not have post-game recaps for 3 games straight.

      • Midtown says:

ESPECIALLY with the money Matt is hauling in with this obtrusive ads he seems to add to the site every week.

By the way, we may not be paying anything to view it, but coming to the site itself lends to Matt being able to make money off of advertisements and the SNY partnership. Any moron can make a blog. The readers are the ones who decide which blog get the hits, and in turn reap the rewards. Keep that in mind.

        Great post niteplanner.

        • DAG says:

Agreed. MetsBlog is no longer some site run by a fan in his basement. It’s got real companies as official sponsors, a partnership with the Mets network, thousands of readers, and at least 6 or 7 posters. There’s no reason in September with the team struggling to cling to first place that there shouldn’t be some post-game thoughts posted on the site.

  5. hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

I don’t give a rats balls if matt posts it or not, but the magic number has gone up exactly one in the last six mets and phillies games played. That makes me worried and annoyed

prediction: The mets and phillies both make the playoffs and meet in the NLCS. mets lose in game 7 on a greg dobbs homer after wasting a bases loaded nobody out chance in the 7th.

    • miker94 says:

you honestly believe that the mets could make it to a game 7 with this bullpen. i’m not being negative, just realistic. serioiusly, this pen in the playoffs against that hard fighting team, we wouldn’t win a game

      • Sylar says:

That “hard fighting” team has lost 11 of 18 to us this year, and 4 of the 5 series they played

I do agree that it is unlikely we make it that far, because of the atrociusness of our bullpen

        • miker94 says:

the past is the past and this is september. just like last year, down the stretch, the sillies don’t quit. they are doing the exact same thing this year that they did last year. and from what i saw this weekend, the mets are doing the same as they did last year also. not a good formula.

  6. crclark79 says:

    TAKE DOWN THE MAGIC NUMBER

  7. BigPelf4prez says:

Get in the playoffs and who knows. We all just have to root game by game and get in any way possible. Get in and you can win no matter what.

  8. HeadlinerG60 says:

If our pen had converted half of the games they’ve blown, we’d have been celebrating a division championship yesterday. That hurts.

    • Lets_Go_Mets says:

Who would have thought Matt Wise wouldn’t fix the bullpen? Omar is just unlucky.

    • Midtown says:

I’m curious as to why the bullpen wasn’t addressed AT ALL last offseason. We got to the nlcs in 06 because of our stellar bullpen. Isn’t that a clue as to why we needed to rebuild after the atrocious year we got from them in 07, and now 08?

  9. cousinrk says:

Yeah take down the magic number because that’ll make everything allright. I’ve never seen so much useless talk than this thread. Who gives a, about a stupid magic number? You think that’s what I’m focusing on with this team? Please get over it

  10. rollinsisgay says:

THIS SITE IS OWNED BY OMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Midtown says:

The fact that nearly every fan here wants that damn number taken down, and that Matt hasn’t done so, AND that it’s pointless since the number is 13 with 14 left to play, AND that for some odd reason Matt felt the need to include the Phillie Phanatic in the background, kinda makes me wonder whether Matt is really a Met fan.

Okay, not really, but he does seem to lack any sympathy whatsoever for fellow fans, who find the number representative of the pain and disappointment of last season.

    • HangingSlider says:

Agreed and well said. Posting the magic number with such a long way to go before clinching adds the potential for a larger dissapointment among lots of the readers on this website.

      Counting chickens before theyre hatched…

  12. methead says:

Last year…i bought my playoff tickets, they didnt make it and they took 3 months to give me the money back. This year? I pay the tickets and they lose 2 out of 3. I guess if they dont make the playofss I wont get my money back till Dec. Nice…..

And hey Jerry…why dont you use Rincon, Reyes and maybe even parnell? Just a thought. I mean…I guess we could pitch ayala and stokes EVERY day and hope their arms dont come off. Oh yeah…why is sho and felicano in their against a lefty in a big spot instead of Rincon? oh wait…those 2 have a track record of success in those spots. Not.

This team never learns from past mistakes. Being a Met Fan really blows sometimes.

  13. kickingmule says:

Take down the Magic Number, bring back the Curly Shuffle, wear your rally caps backwards, reverse the curse, don’t step on the lines as you leave the field… hard to believe that only 5 teams in MLB have a better record than the Mets (and only the Cubs in the NL). How many would have signed for a 1 game lead in the Division AND the Wild Card on Sept. 15th way back in mid June ?? That said, if we had a lock down 8th and 9th tandem, we’d be the best team in baseball right now. Since we don’t, it’s either heartbreak or heart attack on a nightly basis.

    • Two-By-Four says:

You’re equating the NL and AL as if the talent were equal. Even if the Mets had a decent setup man and closer I doubt if they could beat teams such as the Angels and Red Sox.

  14. wallybackman'sfire says:

Take the Magic # down. Just nuts to put it up so early and with such a slim lead - and with this team’s sorry history of closing out a season and a lack of a proven closer. We are the Mets after all. What can go wrong almost always does.

    Mets = gutless, chokers
    Phillies = tough-minded, a team with heart

Phillies overtake the Mets this week and don’t look back. Better bullpen, better starters - and how soon before the Phillies have magic # for the Mets to be eliminated?

  15. tomterif says:

    Matt,

At the risk of piling on, I just have to add that while I think this site is great, terrific and any other praise-worthy adjective you can think of, putting up the magic number was way too premature and reflected an experience and naivete on your part. Magic numbers should only be used at a time when you can confidently say that the team will PROBABLY win, not when the difference is only two to three games with more than 15 or so to play. When the Mets were up by 7 with 17 to play it was appropriate, but this time it wasn’t and really does reflect a hubris we didn’t need to display especially after what happened last year. And, of course, no sooner does the number go up on your site and others, then the Mets blow two out of the last three games. With a one-game difference between the Mets and Phillies (two in the loss) at this point, that number has to come down.

  16. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

This up coming series with Washington will either show that last september is in the past or that this team is in for deja vou all over again. The 07 Mets drop 2/3 to the nats in this spot. Lets hope the 08 Mets can sweep the worst team in the league.

  17. NUMBER17 says:

Do us all a favor and get that stupid “MAGIC NUMBER” off the site. It may or may not be a jinx, but after this weekend why would you take that chance. thnx

  18. apingicer says:

What did I tell you all last night? I knew he would keep the number up. All he did was move it down the column 2 spots. And instead of writing an actual post-game post, he puts up the Gary and Keith video from SNY. Great insight Matt!
