Especially when he throws a lot of curveballs, which are (I have read) tougher on a young pitcher’s arm than most other pitches.

Niese was nasty. His curveball was like “Where the heck is that pitch going? OH, SNAP it just hit the middle of the strike down.” A thing of beauty.

I couldn’t watch the game here in Wisconsin, listened to it on both XM and MLB.com. Just curious: how was Niese’s curveball yesterday? I heard a few comments that it looked much better than his first game. Was he really snapping them off? From what I’ve read, his curveball is up there with Zito’s (in his prime). Thanks.

By the way, when Niese pitches (and wins), will the post-game report become The Niese On Report? Yes, I’m here all week.

I was at the game yesterday and couldn’t believe the “We Want Niese!” chants before the start of the 9th inning. I always say that Met fans are smarter than you’re average bear, but I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. When I asked my chanting neighbors about his high pitch count, his young age, the five run lead, and his high workload this season, I got the typical “yeah, but he didn’t have to work hard today.”

I’m not convinced that the magical 100 pitch mark holds some special meaning, but I’m pretty sure that a young kid shouldn’t throw 135 pitches in a game the Mets have a 5-run lead.

C’mon fans.

when you look at the Mets next year, everyone wants them to go out and get a SP. my opinion before last night is to sign Perez and go with Niese as the #5. santana, pelfrey, perez, maine, niese is a pretty good rotation.
pay perez. and spend on the bullpen.
I had this opinion before last night’s game. he will obviously not pitch as well as he did last night, but I am seeing a trend that a lto of pitchers don’t develop well in the minors anyway. they have success in the minors and when they get to the big show, they throw that out the window and try to nibble too much.
