Note: Knight and Niese in the Rotation
By Matthew Cerrone - Sep 15, 2008 2:55 pm

Yesterday, Jerry Manuel told reporters that he has yet to decide on who will start for the team on Wednesday against Nationals.

According to Adam Rubin in the Daily News, Brandon Knight is expected to get the call.

Speaking of starting pitchers, Manuel also said that Jon Niese will get his next start on Monday, Sept. 22, against the Cubs.

He has a big curve ball it might be just as effective after 3 days rest. Why not let him start on Wednesday? If he struggles then bring in Knight.

I understand your feeling. Knight looked terrible the other night. I guess since Niese threw 116 pitches last time, they don’t want to run him out there that quick again.

He’s young and his arm can probably take it, but didn’t he throw around 120 pitches on Saturday? Also with his minor league innings taken into account I have no idea how many innings he has actually thrown. Why risk anything against the Nationals…send in Knight or Figgy to get the spot start.

Niese is around 40 over last year already.

They have him in the red zone so pitching him more is only slightly more dangerous than what they have already done. Might as well turn him into the next Pulsifer while they are at it…

He’s pitched 40 more innings than last season. That’s getting into a danger zone. I rate this as a dubious decision.

All of our magic number bickering should come to an end since the image is now awesome!

On to more important topic, I still say Figgy should get the start over Knight. Knight’s only major league start of his career was with us and he didn’t exactly distinguish himself.

Per ESPN radio the Brewers have fired Ned Yost.

I just check the Wikipedia entry for Dale Sveum and it’s been updated already.

The only reason that I check Sveum’s entry was that I remember being suckered by my brother in a baseball card deal that rivals Duquette’s deal with the Devil Rays.

‘87 Topps Bo Jackson for ‘87 Topps Dale Sveum

What the f was I smoking.

This is eerily similar to the Mets giving Humber his ML start down the stretch last year…

Can’t believe Niese and Knight are starting two of the biggest games of the year….and our starting pitching is supposed to be our advantage over the Phils?

The Astros are getting no hit thru 5 innings! 4-0 Cubs. (I never thought i’d have interest in this game. lol)

  9. Wrighton92 says:

go to kevin goldstein’s chat on baseball prospectus
guy is a joke, thinks pelfrey is destined to be an above average pitcher, nothing more. it’s ridiculous

  10. zen says:

14 games to go and knight and niese are getting starts? what are you going to do? at least the latter had a nice start to go with a bad one.

neise needs have another couple of strong starts b/c theres a very good chance Pedro doesnt make it to the playoffs IF we even get that far and considering the fact that Maine is done for the year we’re gonna need a 4th starter come playoff time.
