    Interesting Nuggets here guys…

    Plenty of pregame tidbits today:

    *

John Maine made 35 tosses from up to 60 feet. He reported no pain, though he’s curious how he’ll be when he gets up to 200 feet. Maine hopes to get in a game for an inning or two during the last home stand. He joked he already has closer’s music picked: Posses on Broadway by Sir Mixalot. He’s open to closing next year if the organization asks, but prefers starting.
    *

Jerry Manuel confirmed that Brandon Knight will start Wednesday against the Nationals.
    *

Bobby Parnell will face batters Tuesday afternoon in a simulated game. With the state of the bullpen, Manuel wants to take a look at Parnell. The interim manager has no similar plans to look at Al Reyes or Carlos Muniz. Parnell has been tossing 15-20 pitches off a mound every other day to try to stay sharp.
    *

Luis Ayala retains the closer title, on a short leash. Manuel essentially said Ayala will still start most ninth innings, but will get a quick hook if struggling.
    *

Damion Easley has a strained right quadriceps that’s still tender. He may be available to pinch-hit, but won’t be available for second base for several days.

  2. ccmetfan says:

Time for Pedro to play for next years contract. He needs to step it up and go at least 6 or into the 7th inning. Lets Go Mets!!

  3. CaseStreet says:

    Let’s Go Redeem Team!

  4. teufelshuffle86 says:

I think it’s safe to say that every game from here on out is a must win game. Hopefully we can get a few good innings out of Pedro but I expect him (and every other pitcher on this team) to be on a short leash. Why not have Pelfrey pitch on 4 days rest tonight? Would much rather see him than Pedro in a sport like this. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

    • BigPelf4prez says:

Must win is next Sunday on the 28 guys. Every game is “BIG” but not must win. Pedro will pitch a big game tonight and then you petey haters will go away.

      • teufelshuffle86 says:

Not a Petey hater per se, just not sure about his stuf in this situation. I’d rather take Pelf’s mid-90’s fastball verses Petey’s 86-mph fastball. Just sayin’.

  5. Flushing_is_Burning says:

don’t know what to/should expect from Pedro today, but we need to win this series desperately.

    • BigPelf4prez says:

Win series?? There is 14 games left. I dont worry about winning road trips and winning series. I worry about winning tonights game and then tommorrow and then the next agme

  6. steadyeddie says:

I love the New York Mets

  7. MetsFan4Decades says:

    One game at a time…..

  8. EV says:

Someone said something about next year and pedro, I don’t care how Pedro does, I don’t want him on this team next year PERIOD, he needs to retire because he is done.

    • therealsince86 says:

I don’t want to jinx it tonight by calling him done, however I want no part in Pedro as a player on the Mets ever again. 2009 Mets, No Pedro, Alou, Elduque, Wagner. Oh happy day, oh happy day……

      • EV says:

Totally agree with you real on all of them, happy day indeed, except for Wagner, I am sorry to see him go down like that.

  9. teufelshuffle86 says:

Was just on mlb.tv and they are now offering both TV feeds (SNY and Nats). When did they start doing this? Haven’t seen this yet and I’ve watched over 100 games on mlb.tv this year.

    This rocks!!

  10. SantanaCYYOung says:

Who cares about next year, who cares about next month, who cares about next week, heck who cares about tomorrow, all that matters is tonight’s game.

    Let’s Go Mets!

    • therealsince86 says:

For once and maybe finally we actually agree on something. LGM tonight’s the night.

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

hey thereal, i want to believe, i want to be optimistic, its just that this team hasn’t given me much to do so

  11. khmustache says:

crap…i forgot about the rbi baseball camera angle

  12. amazin92 says:

please take the magic number away matt!

  13. SantanaCYYOung says:

reyes’ setember numbers are prety bad

  14. EV says:

Allright Churchie!!!!, come on D Wright.

  15. SantanaCYYOung says:

ok church is on, let’s go david

    i’m pumped

  16. HOFMets57 says:

Reyes looks like he’s pressing (circa 2007). He’s swinging at pitches 4 inches off the ground. He’s not waiting for ‘his pitch.’

It’s worrisome solely because of what happened last year. I don’t think Reyes has shown he’s matured enough to brush slumps off like good hitters do. He sulks and presses.

    I hope HoJo/Manuel see it…

  17. khmustache says:

    ugh…nice pitching there

  18. SantanaCYYOung says:

this is a big rbi if beltran gets it

  19. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jose and DW swinging at great pitches.

  20. SantanaCYYOung says:

come on pedro, get off on the right track!

  21. teufelshuffle86 says:

I think every Met could have walked in that inning.

  22. EV says:

Crap, boy they all swung at really bad pitches, I hope they are not starting to press.

  23. zen says:

    1. over/under on the # of times gary slams milledge this series?

    2. manuel needs to get this team to the playoffs if he wants a contract

    3. the nl mvp will be decided in the next 2 weeks: howard, delgado, reyes, wright, pujols (just of #’s)

    4. i hope dukes doesn’t hurt any of the mets players this series.

    • khmustache says:

      1. 7

      2. agreed…although he will at least be in the running if he doesn’t

      3. yup

      4. even castillo?

  24. dwright57 says:

woulda been nice to get one there…..

odds pedro gives up a run right now???

We need him to say F…. it and throw hard even if his arm falls off

  25. dwright57 says:

    83? hmm

  26. SantanaCYYOung says:

    uhoh

  27. dwright57 says:

    oh boy

  28. teufelshuffle86 says:

Willie ‘Met Killer’ Harris to lead it off.

  29. miker94 says:

hey imagine that, pedro walks the leadoff man…here we go again!

  30. dwright57 says:

    all 83 mph fast balls

  31. EV says:

CC said something about pitching for a contract next year, NO HE’S NOT!!!!

  32. teufelshuffle86 says:

If this ump isn’t going to give him that low strike we could be in for a looong night.

  33. Wrighton92 says:

    how the mighty have fallen…
    its sad to watch…

  34. Metfreak says:

    Pedro Stinks

  35. bringbackolerud5 says:

Good Lord Pedro, just please hang em up. It’s just sad at this point.

  36. Wrighton92 says:

    good lord

  37. SantanaCYYOung says:

this does not look good and with this team’s inability to come back in games we can’t get to far behind

  38. miker94 says:

pathetic…if the mets don’t score 48 runs tonight, game over… not being negative, just realistic. pedro has done nothing for this team, ever…can’t wait till he’s gone

  39. bringbackolerud5 says:

Pedro just looks like he knows that he is shot. The body language is awful. Can’t wait to give his 14 mil to Burnett or Sheets.

  40. ToastyJoe says:

Freaking Pedro is so finished it isn’t even funny. Get Figueroa warm and get him out.

  41. dwright57 says:

    ill take it

  42. SantanaCYYOung says:

    i’ll take it

  43. EV says:

    Good job turning the dp!!!

  44. khmustache says:

if only castillo could hit as well as he can field…

  45. metsfan42793 says:

Can Pedro just one game not give up a run in the first inning. Just one game.

  46. Wrighton92 says:

    at least it’s not a homerun…

  47. WrightsRight says:

Pedro – a shadow of a shadow of a shadow of the pitcher he once was.

  48. Metfreak says:

I see Pedro going 3 innings tonight

  49. bringbackolerud5 says:

Geez, I could have hit that pitch. Talk about a hanger.

  50. EV says:

Pedro stinks, PLEASE RETIRE AT THE END OF THE YEAR!!!!

  51. mookie says:

We might have to bid for sheets. I can’t believe how awful pedro is pitching. I always thought he was a gamer, and keep us in the game, but I guess I was wrong.

    • Wrighton92 says:

      Burnett?

      • nyj0126 says:

Maybe. You got Dempster and others out there too. They’ll get a lot of money though. Why not just re-sign Ollie and say screw all that? Throw a 5 man set of Johan, Pelf, Ollie, Maine and Niese and you’re pretty damn good. The only way I’ll accept them not re-signing Ollie is if they can pull off Sabathia.

        • Wrighton92 says:

I’d rather have Burnett, as he’ll go for less, be more consistent than Ollie and be injured less than Sheets (though that’s not saying much)

    • khmustache says:

sheets has been injured in nearly every season he’s played in the bigs…

  52. metsfan42793 says:

How can anyone here say that Pedro still has something left of him. As of now Bobby Parnell is a better option than Pedro. I feel baad for Gary, Keith, and Ron. They try to say things nice about Pedro but inside they are probably like phuck you pedro

  53. nyj0126 says:

I hate to admit it – but Pedro may just be hurting this team. Even with all the injuries. He won’t make it through 5 against the low Nationals tonight and gave up a run to start out the game (again). The Mets really could have used El Duque or Claudio Vargas. I still think that Figueroa could be a better starter than him. And you can add in Niese too.

This is pure BS though. Letting the Nats get out to a lead. They better not lose this game. If they do, it may just be a long series.

    • ToastyJoe says:

I don’t think there’s any “may be” about it. He IS hurting this team. He stinks.

    • skylog says:

it is hard to admit, but pedro is hurting this team. i don’t know if it is any better with whoever they may toss out there, but does anyone think pedro even goes 6 and doesn’t give up at the very least a couple more?

i would thrilled if he did, but i just don’t see it happening. i am hoping, god am i hoping…

  54. Metfreak says:

Knowing Omar he might give Pedro and Alou one more Yr and sign El Duq for 2 Yrs

  55. skylog says:

glad they are off to such a hot start. how sad we are down to rooting and being pleased with giving up runs. clearly, with only a handful left, they are all “must wins,” but they have got to get this first one. try to get the stench of the weekend cleared a bit.

i will say it now though, if they don’t stop swinging at all that junk he is tossing in the dirt, they will be lucky to put up a run, let alone win the game.

  56. nyj0126 says:

Pedro will probably land some useless Bartolo Colon-ish contract with some team. He’ll probably make like 10 starts and throw in the towel. As long as it’s not with this team, I really don’t care. They’d be better off giving El Duque a minor league deal than Pedro.

  57. nyj0126 says:

I don’t see the Mets getting Sheets because there’s a load of other teams that’ll make high bids. He’s too much of an injury risk and will cost more than Ollie. Ollie is a healthy pitcher who’s gotten much more consistent.

Just re-sign Ollie and either make Maine the closer and sign another guy or sign K-Rod or Fuentes and that’s all they need to do. Than fix the bullpen and decide who’s the LF and 2B we’re good.

  58. Airfeet says:

    are we making the playoffs?

    • zen says:

      affirmative.

    • nyj0126 says:

Yes. It may not look like it right now, but we’re going to do it. I just don’t know if it’ll be as the division winner or wild card. My guess is the division. No ”collapse” is coming, trust me. The Mets have bounced back time after time. It won’t stop now. We’ll all feel much better at the end of the night when they win.

    • khmustache says:

no question…they may back in, but they’re in

    • metsforever says:

      Not with this bullpen.

  59. bringbackolerud5 says:

keep swinging at slop boys…………good game plan

  60. Metfreak says:

WoW we look real good out there tonight NOT !!!! as much as I hate the Philis they have more heart and Guts then this sad team

    • khmustache says:

i guess you get hearts and guts from sweeping the beer makers…a week ago when the mets were doing it they were the team with hearts and guts…now they don’t have any at all…hearts and guts have nothing to do with anything…its the 2nd inning and the nats have been a hot team for a month now…give the mets time

      • marvelousmarv says:

DUDE I SURE HOPE YOU ARE AWAKE WHILE I’M WRITING THIS (12:39 est). “give the mets time” WHAT WORLD ARE YOU LIVING IN.

IM SICK AND TIRED OF SOME OF YOU ON THIS SITE TELLING US FANS TO CALM DOWN. THE METS OF 2007 BLEW A 7 GAME LEAD IN SEPTEMBER (AND DON’T SAY THAT SHOULDN’T MATTER). THEY JUST LOST 3 OF 4 GAMES TO THE NATS AND BRAVES. EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE IN LINE TO WIN 3 OF 4 THEY LOST THEM. THAT IS CALLED CHOKING! THEY ONLY HAVE 12 GAMES LEFT AND THEY ARE ONLY UP BY 1/2 GAME. YOU SAY GIVE THEM TIME LIKE ITS AUGUST 1ST. WHAT THE HECK DUDE. ARE YOU EVEN A MET FAN. I’M SURE OTHER MET FANS FEEL THE SAME WAY I DO HERE.

THERE IS NO TIME!!! METS HAVE TO WIN! IF THEY DO NOT, NO OMAR AND I HATE TO SAY CAUSE HE’S DONE A GOOD JOB, NO JERRY EITHER. AND WHATS WORSE, YANKEE FANS CAN THROW IT IN OUR – FREAKIN AGAIN!

  61. teufelshuffle86 says:

Mets are swinging at EVERYTHING tonight!

  62. ToastyJoe says:

    I hate Willie Harris.

  63. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m getting real tired of this Harris character….

  64. khmustache says:

    i hate willie harris…

  65. skylog says:

    in the dirt here?

  66. metsfan42793 says:

WHY DOES WILLIE HARRIS ALWAYS DO THIS AGAINST THE METS

  67. bringbackolerud5 says:

Maybe Minaya should just get Harris at this point. Considering he owns us. Just get him so he cant hurt us anymore.

  68. EV says:

Damn Willie Harris comes back to haunt us again.

  69. skylog says:

well, things could look better, with catches like that

  70. Metfreak says:

No we are not making the playoffs and if they do they will lose in the frist round

    • nyj0126 says:

Maybe we aren’t. What the hell do either one of us or even the Mets know? If they get in, it can be anyone.

  71. JoseJoseJoseJosee says:

    I f-in hate Willie Harris

  72. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Willie ‘Defensive Met Killer’ Harris

  73. skylog says:

    predictions for castillo tonight?

  74. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Castillo could have done us all a favor and gotten tossed.

  75. SantanaCYYOung says:

i have a bad feeling that the mets are not going to touch this guy today

  76. EV says:

    Ehhh, I HATE SLAPPY!!!!

  77. JoseJoseJoseJosee says:

I swear, once the Mets have one bad inning, every one says they have no guts. Get real. They have already fought through more this season that pretty much any other team.

  78. dwright57 says:

he did strike out again looking…..

however, might be the best at best besides tatis

    Lets build on that

  79. Wrighton92 says:

what do you know, luis castillo looks at 4 straight pitches and gets a full count (his only useful offensive trait)

  80. SantanaCYYOung says:

how come there was no poll today? or did i miss it?

  81. ToastyJoe says:

Castillo just might be the most useless hitter in major league baseball. Put me up there, I’ll strike out looking just as well as he does.

  82. Airfeet says:

this might be the last season of baseball after the market crashes

  83. Genesis Does says:

Jerry PLEASE bench this overpaid sack of ****. he just watch 3 pitches to hit go right down the pipe.

  84. nyj0126 says:

Why can’t Jerry Manuel just give Murphy or Tatis a chance at 2B? Maybe I can understand Tatis since he’s played no 2B, but Murphy played some time there. And did okay. Probably even better than his natural 3B position.

    • The Slider says:

I don’t think now is the time for experiments.

      • teufelshuffle86 says:

        +1

While in theory it sounds like a good idea, it’s a little late to be trying something new.

      • Wrighton92 says:

Do you honestly feel comfortable with what we have? Everyone is always complaining how the Mets have no heart. Who enbodies that more than Castillo? Who was a sparkplug for the Mets to turn it around? Murphy. Everyone is always complaining how the Mets can never score late in games. Who would you rather have out their with the bases loaded in the eighth inning? A young emerging hitter, or an automatic out?

  85. skylog says:

i know there are a few defenders here, but come on, since he came back, yes there was that one hit, and that play or two, but he is just simply horrid. at least before he flared out, something….he used to at least not strike out, now he takes the third strke just about every time up

  86. The Slider says:

Lannon looks tough tonight. I’m concerned.

  87. ToastyJoe says:

Do you think D.Wright knew he was being interviewed for a Palmer’s Cocoa Butter ad when he filmed that bit about his defense?

  88. nyj0126 says:

I still feel better when Argenis Reyes is out there over Luis Castillo. It always makes people happier to see those who overachieve than underachieve.

  89. SantanaCYYOung says:

good start pedro, get two easy more outs like that

  90. miker94 says:

guess john “cy young” lannan will dominate tonight. boy it doesn’t help that our 6-8 hitters are basically automatic outs. what a shame. rather have Murphy/A. Reyes/Castro than Tatis/Crapillo/Schneider…

  91. X-Man says:

    Slappy McWatchy

  92. SantanaCYYOung says:

there we go pedro, four pitches two outs

  93. nyj0126 says:

So will Marlon Anderson’s prediction of 92 wins do it?

  94. SantanaCYYOung says:

good inning by pedro: 7 pitches

  95. Genesis Does says:

Argenis Reyes wouldve had that single up the middle

  96. nyj0126 says:

    Score some damn runs now!

  97. ToastyJoe says:

I don’t get this Nissan of Manhattan/Bay Ridge Nissan ad….”can you feel it? can you sense it?”

  98. SantanaCYYOung says:

big ab by schneider, needs to get on, pedro bunt, top of lineup

  99. dwright57 says:

i hate schneider……..hes overrated defensively and cant hit for crap……

    screw that hit…..still sucks

  100. ToastyJoe says:

Nice hit, Schneider, but ten bucks says they don’t plate this run.

  101. Wrighton92 says:

    SHNEIDAH!!!

  102. teufelshuffle86 says:

    baby steps

  103. EV says:

    Good job Schneider and Pedro!!!!

  104. khmustache says:

    i

    hate

    this

    camera

    angle

  105. MetsFan4Decades says:

Well, it’s not pretty, but I’ll take that run.

  106. BlueCapsOnly says:

Good job, now is Brian fast enough to score on a sac fly thats not to the warning track?

  107. EV says:

    Good job Jose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  108. khmustache says:

sweet they got the run back! they have hearts and guts again!

  109. dwright57 says:

    dammit reyes……first pitch grrrrrrrrrrr

We need to pound this guy dammit

  110. Wrighton92 says:

    small ball ftw

  111. SantanaCYYOung says:

reyes at the mendoza line in september

    • X-Man says:

This is fast becoming known as the ‘Reyes Sept. Swoon” .

    • skylog says:

hoping he turns it around….but i have been for a bit now. looked good the other day, but i just wish ALL of them could get together at the same time. even if just a little. they are close now if only jose could join in .

  112. JoseJoseJoseJosee says:

    Heart and Guts!!

  113. Metfreak says:

This team should be pounding a guy like this but aleast they tied it

  114. MetsFan4Decades says:

And as far as the awful camera angle……here’s hoping that’s the only thing I’ve got to complain about tonight.

  115. 1331 says:

    Elijah Dukes= Menacing looks

  116. Wrighton92 says:

    look who’s up

  117. JoseJoseJoseJosee says:

The Mets have a chance to win almost every game. It is extremely rare that a Met SP loses the game for the team when he is in the game. I have never seen anything like it. 27 blown saves, and 83 wins. Seriously. That’s 110 games right there that the Mets have been in and would be expected to win if you believe in the theory that late leads should equal wins. I mean, they have blown saves in 4 of their last 5 games.

  118. khmustache says:

    saved a double there…nice play

  119. nyj0126 says:

come on… work hard and get out of this pedro

  120. dwright57 says:

pedro is affaid to challenge them

  121. khmustache says:

    YES!

  122. EV says:

    Nice DP!!!!!

  123. 1331 says:

    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKK

    KKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  124. Metfreak says:

This guy looks good or is it the Mets that making him look good

  125. X-Man says:

OK, lets start the Castillo pool. What do you say Castillo will do in his next AB?

    1. Strike out swinging
    2. Strike out Looking
    2. Pop -up to shallow OF
    3. Pop-Up to Infield
    4. Pop-up in foul territory
    5. Groundout to short
    6. Groundout to second
    7. Ground back to pitcher
    8. ground out to third
    9. Try and bunt his way on and still get thrown out at first
    10. walk
    11. Actually get a FREAKEN HIT!!! ????????

    Who can call it right?

  126. dwright57 says:

one hit in 4 innings against a guy who is throwing softer than pedro

    hmm great

  127. SantanaCYYOung says:

only 4 innings, but where is this offense?

  128. miker94 says:

wow, who is this john lennon guy? he’s amazing!

  129. EV says:

The offense has not arrived yet.

  130. EV says:

Crap, nice pitch down the middle of the plate pedro!!!!

  131. khmustache says:

    sit down dukkkkkkkes

  132. rockets212 says:

this team revolves around jose and the bullpen, and both have been horrible the last week. But for the last month jose and the pen have been cyclic, so they suck right now and will be good later (and when i say later i mean really soon). So i think its a lapse for now and both will get hot sometime this roadtrip and stay hot through the end hopefully.

  133. MetsFan4Decades says:

Crap. At least they got the out on second.

  134. khmustache says:

    heads up play by delgado

  135. Genesis Does says:

“JUST out of the reach of Castillo”

  136. miker94 says:

6 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings, plus 2 runs…that’s just terrible. this guy sucks.

    • X-Man says:

Time to retire Pedro. Nice career, now do us a favor and go off into the sunset

      • miker94 says:

seriously though, i mean come on already. it’s obvious he doesn’t have it anymore, pull him already before it’s too late.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

To be fair a lot of those balls have dropped in between fielders, although I think a more mobile 2B could have done better. But the major consequence is that it’s driving up his pitch count and foreshadows a long night at the roulette table with bullpen.

  137. EV says:

It’s really sad to watch Pedro like this, it really is.

  138. Genesis Does says:

Yeah you gotta pitch carefully to a dangerous hitter like Anderson Hernandez. God forbid you give him a pitch to hit on a 3-2 count

  139. dwright57 says:

i dont why you wont throw strikes….. its like hes affraid…..

walks and over pitching is what gets ya……just throw strikes

    • X-Man says:

Ayala threw strikes last night, didn’t work out to well either.

      • dwright57 says:

fine but at least they beat him…….he didnt beat himself……

one reason ayala has been decent is because he throws stirkes……

something heilman sucks at……if pedro pitches 6/8 starts ill take it

  140. SantanaCYYOung says:

castillo, schneider, pedro…can you say wait till the 6th inning

  141. nyj0126 says:

They’re playing down to their competition. I just don’t know if I can watch this. It’ll give me a damn headache all night. Get rid of Pedro. Get some damn balls. And stop using Castillo. Money isn’t everything, is it?

  142. Metfreak says:

Can we please score off this guy Please !!!!!!!

  143. skylog says:

going in, the mets had to figure they were going to need their bats. well, they need the bats. now the only question is will they actually show up, now that it is the fifth?

  144. khmustache says:

i hope they show the topdot commercial 18 more times tonight…bring back guisseppe

  145. LIMetfan74 says:

Hate to say this but they are not winning this game.

  146. MetsFan4Decades says:

Anytime the offense wants to make an appearance would be fine with me – like this inning would be oh, so nice. Please and thank you.

    GET SOME RUNS.

  147. X-Man says:

Can’t help but think the Phillies are sitting home watching this game with a big smirk on there faces.

  148. 1331 says:

    Slaptastic!

  149. MetsFan4Decades says:

So who had Castillo walks in his next plate appearance pool?

  150. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Does anyone outside of Jose steal anymore?

  151. miker94 says:

this guy has given up 1 hit and 5 k’s? wow. i thought this was supposed to be a game that the mets HAD to come out hot and fired up. a huge game, gotta get this one after yesterday’s loss…well i don’t see it yet, come on already!

  152. SantanaCYYOung says:

    totally saw that dp coming

  153. dwright57 says:

    i hate him

  154. EV says:

    CRAP!!!!!!!!

  155. zen says:

manny ramirez can walk on water. period.

  156. khmustache says:

    wow schneider is slow

  157. SantanaCYYOung says:

unreal, this team is starting to press again

  158. chronique1 says:

I think it’s obvious this team is beaten up. This is terrible.

  159. skylog says:

if they don’t get it next inning, it may not happen. that said, let’s hope pedro gets that first out and keeps it where it is.

  160. mookie says:

    I say fire Omar.
    1. crapy pen two years in a row. Blame him more for the second year by doing nothing.
    2. Alou, el doque, martinez, and wagner being too old and wasting our time and money.
    3. Castillo on a long term contract.
    4. picks up players who are professional, but don’t know how to get abgry to push their team over humps.

It’s not going to happen because he’s buddy buddy with Wipon, but it should happen.

    • skylog says:

i will only say… 07, lost in large part b/c the pen. what happens in the offseason? not much in the pen. if they don’t win in 08? lost in large part b/c of the pen.

take it for what you will

    • EV says:

      Dead on right Mookie.

  161. dwright57 says:

    yup……………reyes needs to get going….

1st pitch swinging with a man on and a chance to put some pressure on them……he is a lead off man……

  162. miker94 says:

boy oh boy, after this weekend’s debacle the mets had 2 choices. come out tonight and start the beginning of a huge run, and show the fans that a collapse is NOT in their cards, OR, come out and play just like they did last year against HORRIBLE teams, with no fire, no bats, and no pitching…so far, i’m not liking their choice. come on mets! PLEASE don’t do this to us again ,we can’t take it!

  163. chronique1 says:

It’s outside the 4th inning. Stick a fork in us. Done.

  164. rockets212 says:

well try to take a positive out of this, the way the brewers are playing and the astros start sucking like they have the last few games we might back our way into the playoffs with the wildcard

  165. X-Man says:

Castillo plays = The Mets lose. Don’t ask me why but it’s a fact, look it up. They were doing just fine before he came back off the DL.

  166. 1331 says:

unless lannan goes the distance, theyll have to use the bullpen, which the mets hit very well last week

  167. dwright57 says:

    yes pedro get pissed!!!!

  168. MetsFan4Decades says:

Keep that mad, Pedro. Screw ‘em!

  169. dwright57 says:

    lets go mets

    lets go mets

    lets go mets

    lets go mets

  170. chronique1 says:

First one-two-three inning of the night against the Nationals. Great.

  171. Wrighton92 says:

pedro getting pissed is the best thing that could’ve happened to him

  172. X-Man says:

Hey, if you had told me Pedro would only give up 2 runs through 5, I would have taken that in a heart beat!!

  173. skylog says:

as much as he has struggled to get there, pedro has proven me wrong and has them in it to this point. it just has to happen this time through to get them going.

  174. mookie says:

I hate to say this, but we might have to sign Manny Ramirez. Like him or not the man can hit the ball at any time, and he doesn’t care about curses or what people think of him. Bad fielder, but honestly if we have tatis out there, would it be that much of a difference?

    • Wrighton92 says:

we don’t have to do that at all
      awful idea

    • dwright57 says:

      i’m signing him without a doubt……….

You cant rely on murph or evans

      plus noone else out there

      • Wrighton92 says:

is that really our biggest problem?
        what about our bullpen?
or our lack of another starter?
or our subpar second base (if murphy can’t switch)?
        or our subpar catcher?

        • mookie says:

i agree with you on those fronts but those are pretty obvious ( check my fire omar post), but we lack the player who doesn’t care what happens and just hits. Our hitters think too much and as a result can’t come up big in september. Ramirez doesn’t care, and it scares the junki of opposing pitchers. I say if we can sign him for a two contract why not.

  175. SantanaCYYOung says:

i believe that if the mets are going to do something today then it has to be this inning.

lets go jose, get on base any way possible.

  176. SantanaCYYOung says:

    typical reyes

  177. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, Reyes. What are you doing????

  178. dwright57 says:

    dammit

  179. miker94 says:

bad time for reyes to start sucking

  180. SantanaCYYOung says:

    1-2-3 inning coming right up

  181. skylog says:

    leadoff triple
    leadoff triple
    leadoff triple

    then lots of hits

  182. metsfan42793 says:

ryan church has done nothing since he had the grand slam. absolutely nothing.

  183. SantanaCYYOung says:

reyes, church, castillo = automatic outs

  184. Metfreak says:

Ok this team does not have it and when I mean it I mean baseBALLS

  185. skylog says:

    this is truly awe-inspiring

  186. Wrighton92 says:

this would be a good time for david to step up

  187. X-Man says:

    07 07 07 07 07 07 07 07 07 07!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  188. EV says:

    DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  189. Metfreak says:

1 hitter and this team is supposed to be a playoff team

  190. nyj0126 says:

Okay this is just sad. Is Pedro even doing as bad as we’re making him out to? Or are we making him the scapegoat for the Mets inability to hit? Is the difference of playing in Washington D.C. the reason why the Mets can’t bash the ball? You do you come from 13 runs last time to 1 in like 5 runs this time? I know this is baseball. But this is sad. And these are the teams you’re supposed to beat.

Just score some damn runs… score 2 or 3 next inning and I promise I won’t complain Mets lol Otherwise I’m going to have to turn on the Eagles game

    • Wrighton92 says:

      today it’s the offense
last time pedro pitched, it was all on him
that was like hitting minor league pitching

  191. SantanaCYYOung says:

u can’t have an easier inning than that, sorry to say it, but i was trying to stay optimistic, but this game is over

cause here comes the big inning by washington

  192. metsfan42793 says:

wow. how can our 1-2-3 batters get out 1-2-3. this is why this team will not win the division unlike the phillies who has 1-2-3 hitters that can actually do something

  193. Wrighton92 says:

does anyone else blame me if the only person i really trust to hit right now is the irish hammer?

  194. skylog says:

how can you come out and get 1 hit though 6? man, can pedro get it done another inning?

  195. Genesis Does says:

God this is one frustrating game to watch. 07ish, if you will

  196. EV says:

Please pull the Shave Zone commercial with Maz, they have started playing bad ever since SNY has aired it lol.

  197. CaseStreet says:

why has reyes only seen three pitches in two at bats?

  198. metsfan42793 says:

well here comes 5 runs for the nats

  199. SantanaCYYOung says:

i said it above here comes the big inning by the nats

  200. miker94 says:

alright, i’m starting to get F….CKING pissed now. what the H.ELL is going on here. this is a bunch of bull crap. ONE freaking hit against this tool? damnit, it’s like they don’t want to win, like they want to collapse…AGAIN! DAMNIT already! someone in that dugout needs to smack something around, get them fired up. this is a HORRIBLE sign that it’s happening again, yeah that’s right, IT is happening again…ONE HIT????? you must be kidding me. way to come out ready to play guys. i’m really pissed about this. we invest so much of our time in the team that we love, and 2 septembers in a row, this is the effort we’re given. i don’t know what to say but this is unacceptable. plus pedro blows. what is that 7 hits now and 2 walks. sure not a lot of runs, but can he keep guys off base for ONE inning? sorry, just venting…

  201. dwright57 says:

manny is carrying the dodgers into the playoffs…..

talk about a hitting machine…..everytime i look i see rbis!!!!

  202. chronique1 says:

    The guys are beating themselves.

  203. EV says:

Pedro hasn’t pitched that bad tonight.

  204. the_other_matt says:

Mets going down like a bunch of girls on prom nite…fast and easy

    • Wrighton92 says:

      heyoo!!!
Q: Why is a paternity test never necessary for Pedro Martinez’s parents?
A: Because everyone knows who “Pedro’s Daddy” is.

  205. SantanaCYYOung says:

pedro has been 0-2 on milledge all three at bats and hasn’t been able to get hm out

  206. HOFMets57 says:

This team is pressing. 1 hit against Lannan through 6?

David needs to stop with the political correctness, “Not even thinking about the Collapse.”

    Well, everyone else is!

  207. Dmak says:

I hope they blow up shea with the anemic offense and horid bullpen inside of it.

    September V. 2.0

  208. skylog says:

man, strike there. here it goes.

  209. khmustache says:

nice catch…thought that was falling for sure

  210. X-Man says:

    Reading David’s mind……………..”07 07 07 07 07 07 07 07 07 07″

  211. WrightsRight says:

    petey getting squeezed

  212. D-Day says:

many pedro is SHOT. rolling this guy out every five days is just asking for loses. were gonna need some big offense at some point cause between him and the bullpen, its only a matter of time.

  213. SantanaCYYOung says:

have the mets had two runners on at the same time all game?

  214. miker94 says:

    here we go…

  215. Jimbabway says:

im i the only one who doesnt want the WILD CARD
Just look at the 1st round

    Cubs-Vs- Mets
    Phils-Vs-Dodgers

oh wait..what im i talking the mets wont even get that!!
THEY WAY THIS TEAM IS PLAYING!!!!!

    DEJAVU ALL OVER AGAIN!!

  216. Metfreak says:

If the Nats score anymore then you can kiss this game good bye .Its pretty sad to say because this is the Nats but I can’t wait untill we get into there pen maybe then we might get a chance

  217. Airfeet says:

mets are a bigger choke team than the Jets

  218. D-Day says:

well were looking at 3 innings or more of bullpen relief, this is NOT GOOD!

  219. mrose says:

    ugh
this game is just so frustrating i was trying to avoid this place tonight, but… it doesn’t matter

  220. D-Day says:

honestly i dont want the wild card for me its division or lets just call it a season.

  221. SantanaCYYOung says:

the great anderson hernandez coming up!

  222. dave27 says:

Gee I wonder what Hernandez is gonna do here….

  223. risingcurveball says:

    HUGE BATTER HERE!!!!!

  224. HOFMets57 says:

Anderson is chomping at the bit to pay us back.

  225. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

This game is not on Pedro. They were teeing off on the Nats pitching last week and if anything seeing a pitcher as many times as we see NL East starters should shift the advantage to the hitters.

Credit Lannan who is keeping the guys off balance and generating a lot of swings and misses but we’re giving away too many AB’s.

  226. SantanaCYYOung says:

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahha

  227. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Not surprised.

  228. EV says:

    GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  229. Metfreak says:

    Game over

  230. hotchipwillbreakyourlegs says:

i dont even know what to say anymore

  231. risingcurveball says:

    HE FREAKIN BLEW IT. PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  232. Genesis Does says:

Game over. Collapse v2. **** you mets for even climbing back into first and teasing us like this

  233. SantanaCYYOung says:

GAME OVER, mets have not come back from 3 down all year to win

  234. Wrighton92 says:

How many Mets does it take to do a pile of laundry?
One, but if there’s any folding to do, everyone shows up.

  235. X-Man says:

Did anyone have any doubt what’s so ever what Hernandez would do in that spot?

I hope Castillo is paying attention!!!!!!

  236. FlightFromHouston says:

Castillo… since you suck at hitting, the least you can do is make an effort in the field

  237. das320 says:

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE WAKE THE TEAM THE F UP?

  238. LIMetfan74 says:

And thats the game and the collapse pt2 begins

    Way to go guys!

  239. mrose says:

hmmm so a half game lead…nice
matt, you have bad luck, i’m not calling it a jinx, but thats what you get for listening to the readers on a pole, its just dumb to have a magic number up with a half game lead and 13 to go

  240. WrightsRight says:

    anderson hernandez, mets killer.
he killed them in his few ABs when he was with the team
    And he kills them now
These guys better get their act together immediately because i sense the phillies going on a 2007 Rockiesesque run.

  241. Metfreak says:

I wish we had Anderson over Slappy

  242. SantanaCYYOung says:

watch the pitcher get a hit here, doesn’t matter though

  243. Dmak says:

OF F#ing course. What did we do to deserve this? god must hate the mets. I shouldve learned last year and kept my promise by stopping watching this team forever

  244. zen says:

    a-hern? we talkin’ ’bout a-hern.

we’re lucky if we win another game.

    a-hern?

  245. Two-By-Four says:

The Mets are in a tough position. There are going to be games down the stretch when the other team will outplay you. There is not much you can do about those games but you have to win the games you outplay the other team. In other words win the games you should win. But with this bullpen the Mets lose their share of games that should have gone in the win column. It’s hard to make the playoffs under these circumstances. My philosophy is that if the Mets make the playoffs I will be extremely happy and lavish praise on the players. But I don’t realistically expect them to make the playoffs even though I will root hard for them to do so. We all know the weaknesses of this ballclub so it makes not sense to complain any longer. Let’s see what transpires and when the season is over we can discuss the moves that have to be made.

  246. EV says:

    Unbelieveable.

  247. risingcurveball says:

    adios playoffs

  248. Wrighton92 says:

Hey guys, I found an interesting story online.
Queens, NY. (AP) – A seven-year old boy was at the center of a courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over whom should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When
the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the New York
Mets, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

  249. FlightFromHouston says:

Castillo can not move in the field… put A. Reyes in for chrissake… first he couldn’t get that bloop from Boone and then he stands there on the A Hernandez hit.

  250. chronique1 says:

The Mets really had us fooled this year. Hopefully Omar and the bullpen are gone next year.

  251. SantanaCYYOung says:

anderson hernandez has more rbi’s against the mets the last week than he ever had in his ML career

  252. EV says:

There is one move to make if they don’t make the playoffs: FIRE FREAKING OMAR MINAYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  253. Dmak says:

and the phillies aren’t going to lose a game for the duration of september…

  254. risingcurveball says:

why do I still like this team. I guess my hatred for the Phillies is just too strong

  255. mrose says:

when will the mets have a COMPLETE team game? i mean….either pitching is great, offense sucks, or offense is great and pitching sucks… or hitting and pitching are good but bullpen sucks
    COME ON

  256. chronique1 says:

    lol gary…”potential post-season games”….. :(

  257. FlightFromHouston says:

Unbelievalbe!!! A second basemen who has the range of a 42 year old DH

  258. das320 says:

CHRIST. I AM STARTING TO DISLIKE MY FAVORITE TEAM

  259. SantanaCYYOung says:

here comes the patented 1-2-3 inning

  260. Genesis Does says:

Beltran with a weak swing grounds out to short. Delgado Strikeout to follow

  261. miker94 says:

bottom line is, with pedro on the mound and crapillo in the starting lineup, that’s an automatic LOSS, every single time. count on it. oh, and it’s official, the collapse part II is underway.

  262. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

memories of 07 coming back as we speak i know its still not over but still

  263. EV says:

    Holy Crap a RINCON SIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  264. Airfeet says:

are we really gonna collapse again…is this really gonna happen…i guess we cant really call it a collapse because we were only up 2.5 games on the phils

  265. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

unbelievable. its like deja vou all over again. the mets have a lead with 17 left to go, matt puts up the magic number, phillies fans start focusing on the wild card and concede the division, suddenly the nats are the 98 yanks and the phils throw their gloves on the field and win every game. I’m just waiting for Bill Murray to show up in my living room and watch the disaster unfold with me again

  266. miker94 says:

and not to be negative but there is ZERO chance the mets come back to win this game.

  267. risingcurveball says:

dump Castillo, Fire Omar, Get a GM with some balls and a brain. Clean up the bullpen sign k-rod, sign a good starting pitcher add a better bat and don’t freaking choke for the 3rd season in a row.

  268. WrightsRight says:

It is really, really, really hard to be optimistic. I really want to be, but this past weekend was a complete catastrophe, and we’re seeing a carryover. This is John Lannan not Sandy Koufax. They should be destroying this POS.

I hope the bullpen is blackballed from MLB next year. I hope Heilman and the rest of those coolers are playing in the Cape Cod league.

  269. das320 says:

PLEASE PINCH HIT MURPHY FOR CASTILLO FOREVER

  270. X-Man says:

Again. Castillo play = Mets lose. How simple can it be.

    • WrightsRight says:

He is The Cooler. I’ve said it before. Where he goes, darkness follows. Even though the Mets played like crap most of last season, things went downhill fast after he arrived. He comes back now, and the same thing happens. They need to hire a priest to perform an excorcism around his locker. The man is bad, bad luck. A walking negative aura.

    • skylog says:

this is at least a better argument than the magic number…….right? or is it?

  271. teufelshuffle86 says:

Mets are really working the count tonight. They don’t seem to be pressing at all.

  272. SantanaCYYOung says:

i thought the mets always come back after tough losses?

thereal i know you’re out there, there is no way you can positively spin this one and don’t say that the mets are still in 1st place

  273. miker94 says:

    1 hit through 7 innings…wow, it’s almost funny

  274. LIMetfan74 says:

So when can I get a refund on my playoff tickets??

    • mrose says:

good luck on that one, last year i asked for a refund rather than putting it towards next year and I think it took like 2 months

  275. FlightFromHouston says:

Lannon is an all-star… just like Greg Norton is a future hall of famer

  276. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

all in favor of moving murphy to the everyday starting 2b position say I

  277. SantanaCYYOung says:

good night, this team is officially DONE

  278. D-Day says:

and now we get to watch the mets press at the plate, swing for the fences but only pop out, and bullpen make this a blowout. same sad script. I HATE SEPTEMBER!

  279. X-Man says:

The Mets are officially waving the white towel. Done.

  280. das320 says:

UN BE F UC K ING LIEV ABLE

  281. Airfeet says:

i mean the fact of the matter is we lost 2 out of 3 at home to the phillies…what team cant go home and win 2 out of 3 against the phillies

  282. koosman says:

No reason for anyone to overreact. Just chill, Met fans. Like Metsblog says, this is exciting baseball. A great pennant race. What you’re seeing is perfectly normal. Once in a while you will have a bad night. I trust my guys and the champagne is going to be that much sweeter in the end.

  283. Wrighton92 says:

On the bright side, there’s no possible way Omar can stay GM if we don’t make the playoffs.
    RIght?
    RIght?

  284. skylog says:

we all knew it was coming, what else can we say? who knows what will happen from here on out this season, but they only will have themselves to blame. given everything, everything, they were sitting in such a good spot. if they can not somehow get it together the rest of the way, there will need to be some kind of shakeup that none of us here can even imagine or have even considered for the team to move forward.

    good luck

  285. 911nafstem says:

If the Mets blow it again this year, Wilpon can stick his mock Ebbets Field up his as.s

  286. Genesis Does says:

Just laying over and ****ing dying. A-****ING-GAIN. AGAIN. SHOW SOME HEART YOU MISERABLE MILLIONAIRE PIECES OF ****. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WE POUR OUR HEART AND SOUL INTO THIS TEAM. MERCHANDISE. TICKETS. COUNTLESS HOURS. HIT THE DAMN BALLLLLdy

  287. Clutch says:

well its official…this team is consisted of nothing more than choke artists..plain and simple…Fire Omar for putting this collection of overpaid bums together.,…Fire Hojo for the horrendous game planning…fire these advanced scouts

  288. EV says:

I said it yesterday, I give the Mets credit in the past for showing some heart and bouncing back from heartbreaking losses the day after this year but when you blow 11 freaking games in the ninth how many times can you expect a team to bounce back.

  289. Metfreak says:

Well I gave full control of the TV to my wife for the rest of the night The Mets are done

  290. teufelshuffle86 says:

Another abysmal inning for this offense. They look terrible tonight.

Like someone else said, it’s amazing how lethargic this team looks when Castillo is in the lineup. He certainly continues to be a cancer on this team. No one hits, it’s like he brings the whole moral of the team to a screeching halt.

  291. D-Day says:

i kills me how we end up making these so-so pitchers look like cy young candidates. lannan one hitting our lineup. common are we bipolar or what. we have to have the most head cases on one roster in the league!

  292. FlightFromHouston says:

parnell shoulda been used in relief in pedro’s last outing…

  293. Clutch says:

Pedro is a washed up has been..there is a reason why Theo Epstein did not wanna give this idiot a 4th year…hence the reason why the Red Sox have won and Omar is just a moron

    • FlightFromHouston says:

Pedro very may well be washed up … i missed the start of this game… but he’s afraid to throw his FB… I dunno why he’s so scared to spot an 88mph two seamer… that is not a fat pitch whatsoever… but he fools around with all this slop

  294. Dmak says:

when can i get a refund on the time i spent on this team for the past two years of my life. I swear to god we should start a petition, where bags over our heads, boycott citi field until every single god forsaken member of this organization is fired or dead. I can’t bare to subject myself to this joke of a franchise for any longer. EVERYONE MUST GO NOW.

  295. risingcurveball says:

Screw the freakin Muttsacks!!!!!!!!! Worst team in September in the history of the game. Worse than the Brewers!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst lineup. Nobody’s clutch. And do I even have to mention the bullpen

  296. kd bart says:

To be 1 hitted through 7 innings by a pitcher who has an ERA of 6 against you for the season is disgraceful. I could see it happening in the first when Reyes, Wright, and Beltran kept swinging at awful pitches. They looked tight and looked like they swinging to hit the 5 run homer. Gary Cohen made quick note of it.

  297. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I am going to suspend disbelief and think that we can go on a 5-2 roadtrip.

    • D-Day says:

this team is capable thats for sure. and thats what makes nights like tonight so frustrating! there capable of so much more and all we get is THIS. its just MADDENING!

    • WrightsRight says:

honestly, i don’t think we can lose another game because i seriously think the phillies are about to go on a big run. They thoroughly destroyed the Brewers. Granted Brewers are struggling but i just can’t envision Phillies playing less than .750 ball the rest of the way.

  298. 911nafstem says:

When John Lannan shuts you down in a must win game, you really have to look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if you’re in the right line of work

  299. WrightsRight says:

Pedro can’t get off easy here either. When he’s healthy – almost never – he has never stepped up. Yes, he brought credibility to the team but he’s been bad more often then good.

  300. nyj0126 says:

I’m not confident anymore… Two losses to two crap teams in a row isn’t just a reason to get worried. It’s a reason to actually start believing this team will not make the playoffs. There’s 2 weeks left. And they could be really long weeks. And a really long offseason.

  301. risingcurveball says:

Give Niese Pedro’s spot in the rotation. I mean seriously, I don’t care how many CY Youngs this guy has he’s no longer effective.

  302. zen says:

    this game’s not over…

    • nyj0126 says:

yes it is lol all momentum is working against them. if they win though, i’ll say im sorry for doubting them. i want this team to win. it seems like there luck is better when we expect nothing from them lol i don’t know why

  303. teufelshuffle86 says:

Does anybody have the Mets’ numbers with and without Castillo in the lineup this year?

    • D-Day says:

dont even ask, the only thing castillo has contributed to is last years collapse, oh and possibly this years mini collapse too (god i hope not though)

    • X-Man says:

      last check, something like 62-66

    • therealsince86 says:

So you think there is some magic potion that when you insert Awful Reyes into the lineup that Pedro will pitch better and runners will score? What is it? They think boy this guy REALLY can’t hit so I am going to have to try harder tonight?
If the Mets are a weak enough team that Castillo effects anything on a large scale then they don’t deserve to make the playoffs anyway.

  304. CaseStreet says:

What are GKR saying about the team?

  305. i hate tommy herr says:

i cannot wait for pedro to be gone. he has given us absolutely nothing over the course of his contract. unbelievable. the braves will totally stick it to us in atlanta. our only hope is the cubs have it locked up and they decide to rest everyone.

  306. nyj0126 says:

at least they’re using rincon and not abusing their pen like they always do. i guess ayala’s groin problems weren’t enough indication why not to use him every day – even when you don’t have to use him.

  307. Wrighton92 says:

Why hasn’t Rincon been pitching more often?

  308. therealsince86 says:

My question is why do you try and get that extra inning out of Pedro? He should not have went back out for the 6th and at least have been pulled when he allowed runners.

    • nyj0126 says:

it’s easy to second guess… if he hadn’t, maybe we would have been complaining that he only goes 5 innings. this is partly on pedro and the coaching staff – but mostly on the inconsistent offense.

  309. EV says:

I think the bullpen blowing game after game has worn on this team, what do you think the position players think when they see the bullpen door open, the same thing we do: OH CRAP He’s coming in.

  310. das320 says:

Wow. Ricardo Rincon looked pretty good. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO USE HIM AT ANY TIME BEFORE TODAY (cc: AL REYES)

  311. shiprdr19 says:

Here we go. Reliever gets first two batters out. So naturally let’s take him out and overmanage. Let Rincon get Zimmerman out. I don’t want to hear about this righty/lefty matchup crap. Let’s face it. With this bullpen most of the time it doesn’t matter.

  312. kd bart says:

Yeah, it’s all Castillo fault that the team looks terrible at the plate. He put a trance on Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado and Church. Give it a rest already and stop blaming him for every fault of the Mets. It is quite tiresome.

    • Wrighton92 says:

Just shut up. He makes the entire lineup shallower, gives the guys in front of him no protection, and moves slower than Bengie Molina with arthritis.

      • therealsince86 says:

And thus Awful Reyes makes the lineup even shallower.

      • X-Man says:

I agree Wrighton92, one player CAN have a negative effect on the ENTIRE line-up, just like ONE player (Manny, Delgado, Puljos) can carry a team by himself.

        • therealsince86 says:

So you are saying that Delgado thinks, “Boy Castillo stinks, maybe I should give him a shower?”

      • kd bart says:

So how is he affecting the1-4 hitters batting seventh tonight.? So Wright’s 2 strikeouts are Castillo’s fault. Interesting theory.

        • X-Man says:

If you can’t understand how one player in a line-up can negatively affect the ENTIRE balance of that said line-up then no matter what I tell you I’ll just be wasting my breath.

        • therealsince86 says:

Keep on wasting it Xman, you will eventually run out. Again, if that is true the Mets are a weak weak team.

        • kd bart says:

I’m sorry. Castillo affects the 2 batters around him. He does not affect a batter 5 spots ahead of him. In fact because he is not batting behind Reyes, Reyes should get better pitches to hit.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

You can’t deny the negative effect he has on this team. The Mets were firing on all cylinders until he came back from the DL. I can’t put my finger on why but this team sucks when he’s in the lineup and play like they don’t care.

      • therealsince86 says:

That’s just silly. Again, if the Mets are so weak that they suck just because Castillo is in instead of Awful Reyes then they don’t deserve to get into the playoffs. Plain and simple.

        • Wrighton92 says:

real, are you actually luis castillo posting in disguise
because that would explain many things, including your absolute lack of interest in the game.

        • therealsince86 says:

Why should I have any interest in this game? I already know how it’s going to end, Castillo is playing.

      • X-Man says:

        100% correct.

        • therealsince86 says:

Hey you guys if it helps you cope to blame Castillo for us sucking then go right ahead. I chose to blame the entire team for falling apart in September but hey what do I know. I guess the ONLY thing they need to do is get rid of Castillo. Don’t worry about resigning Perez, getting Krod, Minya or Manuel.
I just wish the Mets front office were as dumb as you guys just so they could try that method and see what happens.

  313. Flushing_is_Burning says:

6 innings 4 runs not unexpected from pedro, but ONLY one hits for the Mets?? Not acceptable!!!

  314. The Slider says:

Lannon had very good stuff tonight. He stuck the bats up our butts. But we’re only down three, baby we can get to their bullpen.

  315. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, Duaner. Adding pain to the misery….

  316. shiprdr19 says:

Unf#cking believable. LEAVE RINCON IN THE GAME. HE GOT THE FIRST TWO BATTERS OUT. LEAVE HIM IN. LEAVE HIM IN. JESUS H. CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • D-Day says:

manuel has been good juggling the pen but no i just think hes overdoing it. he just has no faith in anyone out there.

  317. dave27 says:

Sanchez really worked that AB. Love this pen.

  318. D-Day says:

6 outs, 3 runs, can we do it?

  319. foul bunt strikeout says:

    What a disgraceful team.

I feel like an abused wife that goes back to her sh-t husband b.c she loves him

when will I ever learn with this team

  320. Wrighton92 says:

    Jeez…

  321. i hate tommy herr says:

in their defense, can you imagine the pressure that the big 4 in the lineup are facing? having been contributors to the greatest collapse in baseball history, it is no wonder they are all trying to hit the 5 run homerun. they just need to relax and play, things will work themselves out.

  322. Flushing_is_Burning says:

wow put sanchez on to walk a guy!! what? Ricon can’t do that all by himself?

  323. CaseStreet says:

How can relievers live with themselves? Their job is to come in and get a few outs every couple of days. Is it that hard?

    • Clutch says:

I’ve been asking that question for the past 2 years..apparently it is….a reliever’s job nowadays is to take years off of a fan’s life and make life miserable for them

  324. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Why do they keep saying there were more fans ever for a game vs the Braves? I would believe the ‘99 NLCS would lay claim to that.

  325. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

take out rincon after he gets the first 2 outs, hmmmmmm

    • shiprdr19 says:

yup. i made this point 20 posts ago. this is an absolute disgrace. you take out a guy who got the first two batters out. i don’t want to hear about this righty-lefty matchup crap. what an f’ing joke.

  326. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Next….

  327. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Duaner is a disgrace to the number 50.

  328. dave27 says:

I’m really frustrated tonight, but I am seeing this play out like 1999. People forget how bad this team collapsed at the end of 98 and they got right on the verge of repeating it in 99, only to salvage it at the last second and make a run.

That said, this pen is an abomination.

  329. miker94 says:

why take rincon out and put dirty sanchez in…sanchez has been horrible this year

  330. EV says:

God dam milledge has more hits than the entire Mets team, pathetic.

  331. D-Day says:

sanchez is GARBAGE. GET HIM OUT!

  332. nyj0126 says:

lastings and anderson sure are getting there revenge, ain’t they?

    • Two-By-Four says:

With all due respect AH and LM didn’t have the advantage of facing the Mets bullpen until now.

  333. patrick says:

    Somebody call a cab.

  334. i hate tommy herr says:

i don’t know where they get their attendance figures. having been there on saturday, if it was 3/4s full, i would be surprised. there may have been 20,000 for the nightcap. nothing like the 99/00 series.

    • patrick says:

it is based on tickets sold, not who shows.

    • dave27 says:

It’s paid attendance, not actual attendance, and Shea seats a few tohusand more now than it did in 1999 with the expanded picnic area and seats behind the plate.

THAT’S AWESOME DUANER!!!!!! 2 out no one on!!!

      Party in Philly!!!!!!!!

      What a joke.

  335. teufelshuffle86 says:

Good thing we took Rincon out. He was looking tired.

    • Wrighton92 says:

sure was. those two batters probably made his arm almost fall off with overuse. he should get a few days off, to rest his arm.

  336. nyj0126 says:

I give up… Maybe if I walk away again something good will happen for this team. All I hope for is wins the next few days. This team owes it to us. I’m happy the Phillies weren’t on today because they probably would have forced a tie for the division again. I wouldn’t have minded if the Brewers were on though…

  337. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    oh boy

  338. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    FOCUS ON THE BATTER

  339. Furioso says:

    Wow…nope, no choking here.

These c*nts are doing it to us AGAIN

They’ll be in 2nd by end of game tomorrow.

    Brandon Knight Wed?

    OH GOOD LORD

  340. nyj0126 says:

Why are you turning your whole body to 2nd base? You know you aren’t going to throw it down there

  341. Airfeet says:

    lol sanchez is SO bad

  342. miker94 says:

    i hate sanchez

  343. EV says:

Jerry has waved the white flag and given up on this game because Heilman is warming up.

  344. HOFMets57 says:

Duaner will NOT be re-signed next year.

What a shame. He was SO good before the ‘accident.’ You could make the case, the Mets fortunes went down the drain that fateful night.

    • patrick says:

You could make the case, had the accident been more severe the Mets might have a shot in this game.

  345. nyj0126 says:

Anyone got a white flag? lol

  346. patrick says:

Honestly, Sanchez and Heilman should be released just to at least shake people up.

  347. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Good night. See you all next season.

  348. MetsFan4Decades says:

They are serving up every possible reason to lose this game:
    starting pitching
    BP
    No offense

And on that note, what the hell was Sanchez still out there for – gave up a HR?????

    Sigh….

  349. shiprdr19 says:

FUC# SANCHEZ. FUC# Manuel for taking out RINCON. NICE JOB JERRY. FUC# YOU AND THIS FUC#ING DISGRACE OF A TEAM.

  350. D-Day says:

well honestly no one choked tonight at least. we were never in it enough to call this a choke

  351. EV says:

NYJ you said yesterday Sanchez could be our closer next year lol.

    • nyj0126 says:

lol well, it’s better than heilman. i don’t know if it were you but i saw a couple people saying they were feeling better about sanchez because of his recent performances. too bad now lol

  352. nyj0126 says:

told you. i can see in the future lol

  353. miker94 says:

great move removing rincon there jerry, great move…

  354. WrightsRight says:

I absolutely saw that coming….dbag couldn’t find the plate so he needs to lob one in there. What a d*ck.

  355. The Slider says:

Duaner should have been shut down WEEKS ago.

  356. gipper82475 says:

Fire Omar, fire Jerry, fire the damn ball boys.

  357. skylog says:

you can just see the writing on the wall.

  358. Airfeet says:

Sanchez is such a peice of sh*T…remember that stupid quote he made about the mets going 21-9 and that the bullpen shouldnt be blamed since we were winning games….what a loser

    • WrightsRight says:

he is a big-time loser. he also has this twisted tendency of saying that his pitched well even when he gets smoked. No accountability whatsoever.

  359. dave27 says:

I love seeing these loser teams with no talent and nothing to play for laughing at us. Again.

  360. methead says:

Duaner sucks but Manual is an idiot. I just dont get it. How come these mets never learn their lesson? Rincon….first 2 guys out..hmm let me take him out for…duaner.

    Idiot.

  361. Furioso says:

When they choke again in the next 2 weeks, can anyone answer me why the entire team shouldn’t be just torn down and started over?

Yes I know the stats look good, but they’re proven chokers and losers. You can’t build around a nucleus of losers.

Reyes? Nice guy, great stats. In Sept 2 years running he’s useless.

Give me guys with less talent who plays balls-out and find ways to win.

  362. WrightsRight says:

honestly, how do these guys look their teammates?? They are so pathetic, so bad at their job. None of them deserves to pitch in MLB next year.

  363. dave27 says:

It’s ok Dunaer – cab is waiting outside.

  364. D-Day says:

once again this reminds me of that 13 run killing wasington laid on us last sept. worst part is were getting beat by lastings and that human piece of waste dukes. WHAT THE F!!!!

  365. teufelshuffle86 says:

Does anybody really take David Wright seriously when he says that no one on the team thinks about last year? If you believe that I’ve got some real estate on Park Avenue I’d like to talk to you about.

  366. CaveManJoe says:

Goal for 2009: A 31 game lead by August 31st.

  367. the_other_matt says:

    2007

  368. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Gary just asked who in the bullpen can the manager trust? Jerry just took out the guy who looked the most trustworthy.

  369. MetsFan4Decades says:

I think this team needs and Uncle Norman pet sponge. Maybe they can wash away the filth….

  370. mookie says:

I don’t want to say it but I partly blame it on Matt and his posting of the magic number. My mom taught me at an early age ” son respect the streak, and do everything you can not to jinx us.” Baseball players are the most superstitious people for a reason.
I will reserve the bottom space for your insults towards me.

    • nyj0126 says:

No, you’re right lol Why did he have to do that with 17 games to go? He even asked us and a lot of people were against it… Oh well

    • skylog says:

i am superstitious as well, but i mean, at this point, can it hurt to take it down? either it shuts us up or it works, right?

  371. D-Day says:

sanchez and hielman need to be SHOT! Pedro too. i never wanna see these guys in a mets uniform after this season!

  372. methead says:

where the @$#@ is Reyes and Parnell. Why DO THEY HAVE TO KEEP RUNNING OUT THESE LOSERS DUANER, SHO AND FELICANO!!!!!! Worse…he had Heilman warming up? WTF???
    What is Manual smoking?

I mean…look. The game was over already before the HR but to add insult to injury just pisses me off.

  373. Genesis Does says:

Not that it matters, the final line for the mets will be one hit, one run. Just get Parnell up and have him bean someone. This zombie team needs a brawl to wake them the **** up

  374. miker94 says:

honestly, i almost want to laugh, either that or cry. i mean, is it seriously possible that this can happen again? i mean, we basically have it locked up, sure it’s only a few games, but we’re playing the GNATS for christs sake. i mean, if this team can’t get up for this, well, that’s it. i suppose it’s just best to accept that we will not be playing in the postseason again this year. at this point, unless MAJOR changes happen to this organization, it seems like we won’t be in the post season EVER. we’ll see what happens in the offseason.

    • WrightsRight says:

Last year on this day Mets lost 12-4 to these guys and the collapse was in full motion.

I was really optimistic going into this past weekend. I was practically giddy going into the weekend.

And then Easley hit into that double-play with the bases loaded. I honestly believe that was a turning point. Unable to tack on, requisite bullpen implosion and voila…

  375. foul bunt strikeout says:

I feel like the entire country…at least the redneck parts…are rooting for the phils to take the division

I hope an earthquake occurs in DC and swallows the mets bullpen

    arcghjlsamdl’dmfgd’lamgl;ar!

  376. Stems says:

I can hear Willie laughing…. its sooo loud..!

Mets are making the Brewers look good!

Nice bounceback guys! way to show your fans last year is behind us!

    • therealsince86 says:

Not too often that they unemployed laugh. I always find these type of comments amusing.

      • X-Man says:

If by unemployed you mean $13Million guaranteed, then I would love to be unemployed like that. Fire me tomorro Real!

  377. skylog says:

if this does not stop tomorrow, i hate to say it, but this will just snowball and it may just be a carbon copy of last season. it is already on their mind and after tonight, it only gets worse. another loss with knight going? i know none of us saw niese doing exactly what he did, but it does not bode well.

i only hope i am wrong, but there won’t be any giants win or jets loss to the pats to hide behind tonight / tomorrow.

    • WrightsRight says:

“if this does not stop tomorrow, i hate to say it, but this will just snowball and it may just be a carbon copy of last season.”

That is what i said yesterday.

  378. Airfeet says:

    IM SICK OF SEEING CASTILLO

  379. the_other_matt says:

Right now Mike Schmidt has a big, stupid smirk on his face.

  380. methead says:

WHERE IS REYES AND PARNELL? WHY IS RINCON TAKEN OUT OF THE GAME?? Manual Manual Manual. I just dont get it. WTF. This really pisses me off. I mean…if he goes to Ricon, parnell and reyes and they are just as bad, then I can at least said he tried.

FOR GODS SAKE HE WAS WARMING UP HEILMAN!!!!!

  381. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    LETS GO NATS!!!

    BOO YAHHH!!!

  382. shiprdr19 says:

please take down that magic number.

  383. teufelshuffle86 says:

Question does Castillo hit a slow roller to second or the pitcher?

  384. FlightFromHouston says:

I wish he woulda broken his hand on that slide

  385. MetsFan4Decades says:

LoL – Now? Now Castillo gets a double?
    HAHAHAHAHAHA !!

  386. EV says:

Leave it to the bullpen that has blown 27 saves, 11 in the ninth, to put the final nail in the coffin for this game.

  387. Clutch says:

The New York Metropolitan franchise is a joke..always has been..always will be…its the reason why they are the laughing stock of baseball

  388. The Slider says:

This really sucks. And what do I (we?) have to look forward to? The Jets? The Knicks? Ugh. I guess if you’re a NY Giants fan, you got it good. Otherwise . . . .

  389. D-Day says:

no team fears us in sept. opposite for the phils. simple as that. everyone knows they can beat us down the stretch and look forward to it.

  390. Stems says:

yay rally so we can lose by 1 run!

  391. the_other_matt says:

This team needs to stop setting a goal of “Meaningful September games”

  392. LIMetfan74 says:

    It over Johnny!!!

Even if we make the playoffs how can we expect to win with this bullpen.

Thanks Omar for upgrading the bullpen!

  393. Nate W. says:

Dauner pitches well enough, just long enough, to be trusted with an important spot he can blow. Hopefully the season will be over before he comes to the top of the sh!t heap again.

  394. methead says:

Can they just quit now. Let them be 7 games out by Monday so I could give a sh*t.

Being a met fan is the worse. I truly must love hurting myself.

  395. risingcurveball says:

Luis Castillo= turns it on when the game’s over

  396. miker94 says:

sure, get a hit when it doesn’t matter worth a crap

  397. DavidDog says:

manager of the year? HA! how bout worst manager of the decade. put the gman on a TV show or something, my grandma has a better feel for baseball than him. cowardly, undecisive, by the book guy, HE has turned this pen into mess, full of insecure nervous wrecks

    • D-Day says:

hey give him some credit. we wouldve never even smelled first place if willie was still there. at least we have a shot.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Sorry, I can’t agree here. This is the same crap we saw from the BP both in 2007 and beginning of 2008 with Willie.

  398. D-Day says:

well nice to see a hit when were completely out of it. guess you could say he pulled an A-ROD!

  399. FlightFromHouston says:

I’m actually looking forward to the knicks season now

  400. Airfeet says:

we gotta begin starting murphy against lefties…

  401. bringbackolerud5 says:

At least Cerrone wont have to update his jinx number tonight. Tool box.

  402. XbLaDe31 says:

Are the mets pitchers scared to throw inside???? Are they scared of contact????? There is 7 gloves behind them to make a play for pete sake….unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  403. Jimbabway says:

maybe someone should call THE United States Immgriation Services on the NEW YORK METS… and DEPORT which ever LOS MET is not playing well…………..

    THIS IS A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2007 OVER AGAIN
    2008 NOT BETTER
2009 EVEN WORSE WITH MINAYA IN OFFICE

FINAL GAME AT SHEA IN SEPTEMBER!!

  404. teufelshuffle86 says:

Let’s see, how can we strand a runner at third here. Any ideas?

  405. kd bart says:

Well look at that. Castillo has more hits tonight then the top 6 spots combined in the lineup tonight but he’s the reason why we are losing.

    • therealsince86 says:

Give it up, they need someone to blame to cope with disaster. It does not have to make sense to them, it just keeps them from beating their wife and kids. Willie was the guy last season and now its Castillo.

  406. dave27 says:

That ball was so foul its not even funny.

  407. Clutch says:

Hey Matt….its ok..you can say it….CHOKE ARTISTS!!…i honestly think someone needs to say it on live TV

  408. nyj0126 says:

Tomorrow is another night. At least there won’t be garbage out on the mound. I hope this team can get behind Pelfrey and give us a much needed win.

  409. The Slider says:

Well, not to bring up a sore subject (well, maybe), but if we blow this dare I say “again,” that takes Willie off the hook and put it back where it belongs.

    • therealsince86 says:

I don’t agree. Willie and Manuel are both still on the hook for this season as well as the players.

      • EV says:

Oh real where’s Omar on your list of who to blame you Omar lover.

        • therealsince86 says:

Omar lover, nice. Shows you intelligence and ability to carry on a good arguement.
I have said all along I am giving Omar 2009 as I do not think it’s a coincidence that all these old timer contracts all expire this season.
If he goes out and does nothing this offseason then I agree he needs to go.

        • EV says:

He doesn’t deserve another year Real he has done ENOUGH damage.

  410. FlightFromHouston says:

murphy comebacker to pitcher followed by Reyes K looking

  411. patrick says:

Reyes is likely to come through here, and I also won the lottery.

  412. D-Day says:

give murphy some credit, the kid has the most ridiculous at bats ive seen 8 pitches every time up!

  413. dave27 says:

I’m royally pissed as well, but do people realize that 2 other divisions are within 1 game right now?

Just relax people…it’s a bad night. Long way to go. I honestly think people would prefer us to be down 2 games.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Did you just become a Met fan this year?

    • patrick says:

I do NOT care about the other two divisions, especially one in which either team is fine no matter who wins and who does not.

One team is the defending World Champ and the other has never played a playoff game, so even if they fall apart, they are doing something they have never done.

  414. FlightFromHouston says:

    Keith is mad

  415. teufelshuffle86 says:

Hey guys, it’s still April. Long way to go!

    • dave27 says:

14 games is a long way in a pennant race. Or haven’t you heard?

      • nyj0126 says:

Maybe too long. Losing 3 games in 4 days of baseball play can never be good. I just read an article that was written following the 13-10 win that said the Mets are up 3 1/2 with 17 to go – what are the odds they blow it? They’ve risen a bit.

They’ll do it. I just need to doubt them now. It’s best for my health lol

  416. Nate W. says:

Could tonight be the Mets turn for a 7 run come from behind rally? Or is it only Mets opponents and division rivals who can do that?

    • D-Day says:

on, this is probably just the mets getting our hopes up and letting us down in the end, just like this whole season

  417. D-Day says:

leave it to the youngest players to show these “Veterans” how to play with some BALLS!

  418. dave27 says:

You know we are headed for a 7-6 final.

  419. shiprdr19 says:

Does anyone else on here find Keith and Ron extra annoying when the Mets are busy imploding?

  420. Clutch says:

Hojo needs to be fired…because whatever game plan he has been concocting for these hitters is just way off

  421. Wrighton92 says:

The Luis Castillo sighting is nice, I have to admit.

  422. FlightFromHouston says:

    thank god for duaner

  423. metsforever says:

The collapse is underway. for all the Omar lovers here, who else should be held responsible for the mess that is this bullpen? The pen is what caused the choke last year and no improvements were made. Every baseball executive has to learn from the mistakes of the past. This one was too stubborn. The Wilpons gave this guy a blank check. It didn’t work out. It’s time to find a new director for this show.

    • therealsince86 says:

How can you consider Stokes and Ayala as not improvements? Who did you want him to get?

      • metsforever says:

In August? The work had to be done over last winter.

        • therealsince86 says:

Only trade that I think should have been made that could have saved the season was in December when Omar was offered Fuentes for Show and Heilman. That would have been huge. Other than that, there was nothing out there.

      • EV says:

Real we all know you have a poster of your idol Omar Minaya in your house. Geez, Omar can do no wrong in your eyes right. Let’s see first it’s Willie, then Jerry, then the players, where does the freaking GM fall on this list?

  424. SantanaCYYOung says:

At least after tomorrow there will be no magic number to put up

  425. therealsince86 says:

One thing that is for certain, this entire pen needs a make over for next season. It would not break my heart to see Heilman, Sanchez, Feliciano, and Show all be traded, released and not resigned. Their time is up.

    • Wrighton92 says:

      K-Rod!

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

i see you are finally realizing the obvious

      • therealsince86 says:

Pretty sure I have said that from the begining. I was the one up in arms about Heilman not being traded in a package for Fuentes. But it was “No Fuentes is terrible and Heilman pitches a lot of innings. Heilman and Show are too much for another LHRP that is not that good……”

  426. Wrighton92 says:

    Hinckley in!

  427. X-Man says:

Thank God I’m a NY Giants Die Hard Fan. 2-0 baby! It will make this Collapse 2.0 that much easier to take just like it did in 2007.

I feel bad though for you Jets fans. You have my condolences

    • nyj0126 says:

You honestly believe the Giants will do it again? lol I praise your confidence. Good luck. Well, at least we got a legend… I don’t know if that’s a good thing if we don’t win though lol These Mets will get it done.

      TO TD # 2

      • EV says:

Yo NYJ easy on the Defending THREE TIME SUPER BOWL Champions. What has it been 40 years since a Jets Superbowl? A legend who we beat last year in his stadium and his conditions.

      • Two-By-Four says:

At this point I have more faith in the Giants winning another SB than the Mets making the playoffs.

  428. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

too little, too late. nice job boys. When you are 1 game up in the division with 14 left and you are going to DC to play BY FAR the worst team in major league baseball for FOUR FREAKING GAMES you should be salivating you should be dying to play these games and just run away and hide with the divisoin….nope not the 2007, i mean 2008 Mets.

  429. patrick says:

I’d like to be mad at Sanchez, but he likely just saved us from being mad at Church.

  430. bringbackolerud5 says:

Gary “homer” Cohen has a lot nerve to say another team is in a freefall.

  431. Airfeet says:

    too little too late

  432. Wrighton92 says:

Hopefully Church can turn it on now.

  433. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh good, only 5 more runs to tie.

And oh good, part two: bases loaded. We’ve all seen this script before….
Can we have a different ending please?

  434. patrick says:

    DRod for the double play…

    • Sylar says:

      DRod??? How hilarious!!

Do you have nicknames for Delgado and Beltran, who both have had horrendous games?

  435. D-Day says:

CAN WRIGHT COME THROUGH! COMMON DAVID!

  436. Wrighton92 says:

    David Wright up…

  437. nyj0126 says:

Let’s see what David ”Clutch” Wright is made of…

  438. X-Man says:

We need a 10- run inning!

  439. SantanaCYYOung says:

here comes a dp by wright

  440. nyj0126 says:

If the Mets magically find a way to win this game… All of us are going to party lol

  441. miker94 says:

don’t get all excited guys, it will just make you even more sad when they DON”T come back

  442. D-Day says:

we need to light this hinckley kid up! LETS GO METS!

  443. X-Man says:

    BYE BYE

  444. patrick says:

    Most Valuable Schmuck

  445. das320 says:

    CHRIST ALMIGHTY

  446. nyj0126 says:

    Oh he’s so clutch…

  447. kd bart says:

I guess that DP was Castillo’s fault. He upset Wright.

  448. dave27 says:

David Wright is a joke. I actually thought for a second we were gonna come back.

  449. X-Man says:

    MVP MVP MVP!!

  450. miker94 says:

all you have to do is hit a pop fly to the outfield and he can’t even do that…seems to be the case with wright when there is someone on 3rd with less than 2 outs. disgusting

  451. FlightFromHouston says:

    Wright for MVP

  452. Wrighton92 says:

    (Gunshot)

  453. shiprdr19 says:

    Clutch Mr. Wright. Nice AB.

  454. Flushing_is_Burning says:

wow…. I actually saw that DP coming

  455. skylog says:

2-0 count and you do that?

  456. D-Day says:

off course. what was i thinking hoping for a comeback. i shouldve known better. thanks david.

  457. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Shocker!

  458. methead says:

unreal. I thought I saw some life and david sucks it right out of you.

  459. D-Day says:

im gonna go play in traffic, you guys have a goodnight.

  460. slachs says:

    WTF ALREADY WRIGHT?!?!!? WTF AAAAAAAARGH?!?!?!!?!?!???!?!?!?

  461. FlightFromHouston says:

David is a team leader. … LOL

  462. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Where did his go the other way stroke go?

  463. bringbackolerud5 says:

    SELFISH WRIGHT!!!

2-0 COUNT. A WALK THERE IS HUGE. JUST KEEP THE LINE MOVING.

BUT NO, GO FOR THE GRAND SLAM. TOO BAD IT WAS NOT THE FIRST INNING WHEN YOU ALWAYS COME THROUGH.

GO PUT YOUR CRYING FACE ON BABY WRIGHT!

  464. das320 says:

    WHAT THE HECK?

    F’ING BASES LOADED CURSE

  465. Genesis Does says:

Way to Arod the rally, Wright. NOW its over

  466. FlightFromHouston says:

    FINALLY PARENLL!!!!!!

  467. skylog says:

is that one of those “clutch” moments that doesn’t show up in the stats? i am just wondering

  468. gomets6091 says:

just before Mr. Clutch grounded into the inning-ending bases-loaded double play, the Nats broadcast showed that he is a .389 hitter with the bases loaded. He must have been like .850 with the bases loaded before this season, right?

    • skylog says:

actually his first season and a half he was automatic if i remember correctly. it may have gone longer, but i am not sure

  469. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

Why do NY third basemen ground in to so many rally killing DPs?

  470. FlightFromHouston says:

    see how easy it is

  471. SantanaCYYOung says:

When the Mets don’t make the playoffs, I think ALL of the players that made up the ‘07 and ‘08 Mets need to go. Yes, that’s right. That includes Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Castillo, Easley, Castro, Pedro, Heilman, Feliciano, Schowenweis, Sanchez, Wagner, Smith, Anderson, Perez, and Maine.

the mets just need a fresh start, i truly believe this is necessary

    • skylog says:

i stated this earlier. clearly all of that will not happen, but if they blow down the stretch again, i do think there needs to be some kind of dramtic change or shift that none of us see coming for any remaining parts of the team to move forward.

    • risingcurveball says:

WTF? are you crazy thats not even possible. Yes get rid of the bullpen and maybe Castillo. Plus you’ve got free agents leaving, but Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Maine, Santana and Pelf. Are you kidding me they can’t even do that that’s 137 mil of payroll down the drain. you are crazy!!

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

i didn’t say santana and pelf

        • risingcurveball says:

but still Reyes, Wright, and Beltran thats way too much talent and money going down the drain. Those 3 guys have to stay. Maine does too although we might be able to get good value by trading him

        • SantanaCYYOung says:

i just feel that every september it will be the same thing, but i definitely understand your point and know that it will NEVER happen

    • Sylar says:

No offense, but your completely insane

  472. X-Man says:

Bases loaded + DWright = CHOKE 100% of the time.

  473. das320 says:

    hmmm……….

these guys from the bullpen that we never use are pretty good….

why don’t we use them more often?

do not use any of the older/veterans – other teams have seen them and know them well. Use the new guys everyday from now on

  474. MetsFan4Decades says:

Who ever thought I would say I hate seeing bases loaded for my team….

  475. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

thats right folks it has come to this, guys we have not seen are in a game in september

  476. LL says:

Pedro sucks! Sanchez sucks! Even D-Wright sucked tonight!!!

  477. Wrighton92 says:

    spoiler alert:
al reyes makes a pinch hitting appearance.

  478. kd bart says:

On another subject, I believe this Monay Night game might be in the 30s for both teams by the half. 21-20 Cowboys with 10 minutes left in the half.

  479. Airfeet says:

messed up thing is we have another close game no way we’ll be using Parnell…theres no way Manuel will

  480. MetsFan4Decades says:

Wow – Parnell. Where ya been?

  481. Wrighton92 says:

at least parnell might be good for us later this year/next year.

  482. miker94 says:

now don’t everyone go and get all crazy for parnell. i can recall more than a few guys who “started” their season on fire, and then became a joke.

  483. shiprdr19 says:

Gee whiz! Why didn’t Jerry take Parnell out after the first two outs? I cannot believe he was in their for a third batter.

  484. Wrighton92 says:

    los dos carlos

  485. FlightFromHouston says:

HOW SMART I AM… go back and look at how long I’ve been lobbying for Jerry to let Parenll in the game… look it up… I’m the best!

  486. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

bobby parnell for closer role. and im late but as i said earlier why take rincon out after he gets the first two. hate how jerry does this often

  487. X-Man says:

Guarantee you DWright says again in the post game interview that they are not thinking about 07′. What a joke, at least be honest.

  488. BigPelf4prez says:

DAVID WRIGHT WILL NEVER BE ANY BETTER THAN A ROD IN CLUTCH SPOTS!! HE IS AN OVERRATED, PRI MADONNA CHOKE ARTIST AND IS THE SYMBOL OF THIS COLLAPSE THAT IS COMING AGAIN!!

  489. nyj0126 says:

Maybe Parnell and Rincon actually are options… If Jerry has the canolies to use them lol

    • EV says:

Yo NYJ easy on the Defending THREE TIME SUPER BOWL Champions. What has it been 40 years since a Jets Superbowl? A legend who we beat last year in his stadium and his conditions. Your Jets couldn’t beat the Pats with a quaterback that hadn’t started a game since High School lol lol.

      • nyj0126 says:

So they both won’t do it lol Everyone knows it’s easy to catch up in the NFL. The only team that’s dominated year in year out has been the Pats. That says it’s not only Tom Brady… There are better quarterbacks out there who haven’t won the amount of super bowls. I say they both get in the playoffs. Jets 10-6. Giants like 11-5 or 12-4 and both of them lose. I’m a reasonable guy lol

  490. stickguy says:

nad the beat goes on. At least there was a parnell sighting.

Given how much this is 2007 all over again, Jerry needs to make changes, and fast. That means ptiching parnell (big spots even), Rincon, Reyes, anyone that might have a chance of doing better.

And if Cstillo can’t hit and the O is scuffling, scrw it and put Murphy out there.

Better than going down with the same old ship.

3 out of 4 losses to bottom feeder teams, and quite likely in 2nd place by tomorrow. And to think a week back, the Phillie fan base had pretty much given up and conceded!

  491. LL says:

    I can’t take this. I just can’t.

  492. skylog says:

i agree not to get all excited, but why are these guys even here if they just sit there? clearly, the status quo has not been working. can the results really get much worse?

  493. FlightFromHouston says:

can’t wait to see D Wright’s postgame whisper

  494. risingcurveball says:

I hope this shows Jerry that these Rooks are better than these crappy Veterans!

  495. Furioso says:

At least the clubhouse was so loose and happy because of the rookie hazing.

Glad they’re having so much fun!

In the meantime, this club is ensuring that both Willie and Jerry are not managing next season.

When do these chokers ever pay the price for their gutlessness?

  496. patrick says:

    and the Magic Number is…

    IRRELEVANT

  497. risingcurveball says:

lol, Omar trading A Hern turned out to be a bad move too. That guy can’t do anything right

  498. kd bart says:

Ever since the 2006 postseason, Wright has had the tendency to tighten up and become a pull hitter in any big situation. He goes up looking to hit it out of the ballpark. He opens up and pulls off the ball and forgets about driving the ball the other way. Thus, the strikeouts, weak pops and groundballs

  499. skylog says:

watch delgado hit one, that would be awesome.

  500. danlx13 says:

I am soooooo sick of david wright doing that…..

when this team rallies…it rallies, and i believe that if david wright got a 2 rbi single then beltran and delgado would have kept it going and we would still be in this game..
david wright has to stop ending these games in the 7th and 8th innings

  501. Furioso says:

At least the back pages should be amusing tomorrow…..Mr. Met on a Heimlich poster maybe?

  502. X-Man says:

I can just see Utley and Victorino with a big, smug, smirk on thier faces.

  503. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

hey at least scott kazmir got blown up tonight

  504. SantanaCYYOung says:

    tomorrow’s lineup should be:

    reyes
    murphy
    wright
    beltran
    delgado
    evans
    church
    a.reyes
    pelf

  505. MetsFan4Decades says:

NO, NO, NO. This season is not over yet. It’s just not……

  506. kd bart says:

    3- hitters, 0-11. That’s why you lose.

  507. patrick says:

The good thing about his collapse is it will take the bloom off of Manuel’s undeserved rose.

  508. risingcurveball says:

    I HATE THE FREAKIN METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  509. teufelshuffle86 says:

Will it be better to take down the magic number when the Mets are a 2nd place team?

  510. Wrighton92 says:

So who said earlier that Luis Castillo was unfairly targeted?

    • therealsince86 says:

Nope he stinks, just not as bad tonight as the rest of the team.

    • kd bart says:

That last out made all the difference in the game. It was better at bat than any David Wright had tonight. I’m not here to defend Castillo but to blame him for everything is just plain ridiculous. This was a team effort. But if rationalizing that it is all the fault of Castillo make it easier, so be it.

      • therealsince86 says:

Again, it’s keeping them from beating their wife and kids. It does not have to make sense.

        • kd bart says:

After awhile, it is like talking to a wall. Everything is the fault of Castillo. Wright hits into a DP in a big spot, it is Castillo’s fault because he’s batting 4 spots away and it affected the way David hit. Reyes swings at bad pitches to start the game that’s obviously the fault of Castillo batting seventh. The pitcher doesn’t have to throw Reyes a strike because he’ll face Castillo in 6 spots.

  511. teufelshuffle86 says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  512. kd bart says:

To cheer things up, The Phillies did lose 3 out of 4 last week. They can do it again.

    • Sylar says:

The Phillies are 6-0 in Atlanta this year, and with how they’re playing atm, it seems almost impossible that they’ll even lose a game in that series

One note: To ALL the “Wright is a choke artist” people: didn’t you guys just spend the last week talking about how he was reemerging in the race??? Oh I forgot, one bad game makes you a choker (Morons)

      • gomets6091 says:

in my defense, tonight was the first game I’ve watched since the last Nationals series, so to me, he’s been stuck in unclutch suck mode.

    • gomets6091 says:

not to be the proverbial stick in the mud, but last year the Phillies struggled in early September while the Mets took the 7 game lead. Then, suckage.

I’m praying it doesn’t happen again this year, but right now it’s not looking good. Sadly, the only thing that makes me feel good is we still have the Cubs. This pathetic group can’t seem to get up to play crappy teams, so hopefully they can get up to play a good team.

    • miker94 says:

no chance they do it again. in fact, i bet they don’t lose a game the rest of the season, seriously. but if they do lose, it MAY be just 1 or 2 games, no more than that. which means, if the mets continue to choke to HORRIBLE teams, well then it’s over.

    • Central NJ Mets fan says:

Maybe, but they just won 4 games in a row. I hope their day off today will hurt their momentum. We need to start winning again. Pedro wasn’t so great today and this bullpen sucks!!!!!!!

  513. risingcurveball says:

TAKE DOWN THE MAGIC #, WE ALL WHAT THAT PIECE OF CRAP OF THE SITE AND ALL YOU DO IS CHANGE THE LOGO!!!!!!!!! I KNOW THIS SITE’S FREE BUT IF IT WASN’T FOR THE FANS THIS BLOG WOULD BE MEANINGLESS, SO TAKE DOWN THAT # NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  514. danlx13 says:

look…im really not superstitious but ever since the magic number was posted on this site the mets really have not been playing well.

  515. EV says:

    This BLOWS!!!!!

  516. risingcurveball says:

THESE MUTTS ARE A DISGRACE TO THE FINE CITY OF NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Central NJ Mets fan says:

This team makes me sick. I went to all 3 games this weekend and by the end of the game yesterday I wanted to throw up. This is last year all over again. Didn’t they learn anything? I can’t take another ending like last year!

  517. Furioso says:

So which of you abused spouses are gonna run to Citifield next year to see choker v3 (or v4, depending on your view of the 2006 season)

  518. Genesis Does says:

And like game 162 last year, and Sundays game, Luis Castillo makes the last out. How the hell does a no range, no bat old p.o.s. get playing time?

At least with Argenis we get fantastic defense, and hey, he never kills a rally. This was a horrible loss. AGAIN\

You want to motivate the team? Send Heilman home for the season. Cut Blowenweiss, Cut Sanchez and let Stokes, Parnell, Ayala and Al Reyes take over middle relief. Smith and Feliciano can stay as the specialists

    • Furioso says:

How does he get 4 years is a better question?

In a just world, he’ll be drawing a Mets paycheck much longer than Omar will

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL never kills a rally. Exactly how is that possible? His OBP is .277 LOL. He and Castillo have to make up the worst 2B duo of any playoff team.

  519. danlx13 says:

well the good news is that we might have a chance for the wild card with the way the brewers have been playing

  520. risingcurveball says:

REPLACE PEDRO WITH NIESE. HAVE PARNELL BE THE CLOSER. RICON AND SMITH ARE THE TOP SPECIALISTS. PLAY ANYONE BUT CASTILLO. AND PUT IN RAMON CASTRO!!!!!!!!! SCREW THESE VETS THEY CANT GET ANYTHING DONE. THEY JUST CHOKE UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  521. nyj0126 says:

We won’t have a chance at any if we don’t start winning. Losing 3 out of 4 to garbage isn’t helping..

  522. metsforever says:

It’s that f(*&ing magic number on the site. It must be. Anyway, I guess it doesn’t matter anymore.

  523. LL says:

Is there anyone out there? I feel so alone right now. Anyone?

  524. nyj0126 says:

Instead of stressing out… I say all of us just stop thinking about baseball for the rest of the night. Save our energy for tomorrow night. We had to break a record with the number of posts lol

All the speculation on who we should use and who we shouldn’t isn’t going to matter… This team has to win it’s games. They haven’t even played .500 ball against garbage teams in the last half week. It’s going to take at least 9 wins to win the division. Or at least the Wild Card.

Why do the Mets have to be up as much as they can get with 17 to go? lol I remember the Mets worked up that 7 game lead… They worked up a 3 1/2… It’s a really bad number. Is there a # 17 on the Mets?

  525. nyj0126 says:

What we’re going through right now is exactly what the Phillies have gone through. We’ve gone through it before but in the last month it seems like the Phillies have had more anxiety with it…

It hurts that the Phillies are playing great when the Mets are struggling. They can’t be thinking about the Phillies though. They need to think about their own games. Their own easy games. It’ll get harder next week which may be what the Mets need. They need to win as many as they can. They’ll turn it around… We got Big Pelf and Johan going in 2 of the remaining 3

  526. SantanaCYYOung says:

so, i thought the mets always won after tough losses?

  527. LL says:

I wish I could see the post game show. I’m down in FL and watch the games through the extra innings package. Wtf is Manuel saying right now?

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

we’ll get em tomorrow, this’ll make the champagne that much sweeter…oh wait

    • Bogar says:

Here’s what you’re missing on the post gm:
they threw out the phrase “still in first place” and said it feels like we’re just re-cueing shows from last year.

  528. EV says:

Can people please stop with the stupid magic number that is NOT the reason why they are losing.

  529. risingcurveball says:

This bounce back mentality is screwing them up yesterday Wright quoted “We’ll bounce back just fine,”and “It seems like the tougher the loss, the better we play the next day,”. Then how the frick did you not win today Mr.Wright and you sucked in the clutch. This turn it on turn it off mentality lost it for them last season and it’s doing the same thing once again.

  530. trippingac says:

    EVERYONE CALM DOWN!

You didn’t all think it was going to be that easy, did you?

When we’re on a winning streak and the Phillies are losing, it feels like that will continue forever. Likewise, when we start losing and they start winning, it feels like that will continue forever. Am I the only one that can see this?

It has been a very bad 4 games, no doubt. But if this team hasn’t shown you enough over the last 2 and a half months – if the way they have played over the last 2 and a half months doesn’t give you the least bit of confidence that we WILL BE IN THE POST-SEASON, well then – you’re just not being realistic.

Last year, when the situation was about 3 games up with just 13 left to play or so, we were in a better situation than we are now. Still, at that time last year – I felt awful – I believed, deep down, that they were going to fail. But right now, this year, at this time, I still believe that they will succeed.

No one thought the Mets would go 1-3 in these last four games. Of course, in the beginning of the month, no one thought that we would sweep the brewers and that the Phillies would go 2-4 against the Nats and Marlins. Baseball is a funny game.

I would really like to see all you die-hards out there try to stay a little more positive. We need positive energy people.

    PLEASE.

    LET’S GO METS!!!

    • nyj0126 says:

It’s just anxiety that’s all… I don’t think people aren’t confident. Baseball is a funny game and so are it’s fans lol If we win tomorrow, people will be like a cured patient. And if we win 2 or 3 in a row, these 4 games will be a distant memory.

Likewise to you, I’m confident and sensible. I know this team can do it. This team has proved something to be this year. They never stop fighting. They can get lazy, but when someone starts kicking their heals they start moving. With acknowledging that they can be knocked out of both the division and wild card leads tomorrow, that might be enough to get them moving…

    • miker94 says:

so because YOU believe that they can make it to the post season then we all should? listen, I admire your optimism, but you shouldn’t use the term, “realistic.” The only thing that’s realistic is that last year the team DID collapse and until this team proves to be a championship caliber team, the majority of fans will always have that collapse in the back of our minds, and therefore find it very difficult to be positive when the mets are losing to extremely horrible baseball teams when they need to win the most! i’m sorry but THAT is just the reality of it all. i hope this team can turn all of our mindsets around and MAKE us forget the collapse. but until it’s done, i’ll be worried and sick and frankly just a little bit pessimistic. sorry.

  531. LL says:

It really isn’t the team as a whole this year. Yeah the offense didn’t score much tonight…but they’ve been scoring a lot of runs this year. The problem is and always has been the freaking BP. If we would’ve won the games over the weekend that we should have, tonight would be no big deal. It’s baseball, and you can’t win every game. You’re due to have games where you just get beat. And that’s what tonight was. We just have to hope that BP is going to come through. Manuel has got to figure it out.

    • nyj0126 says:

Yup… Tonight was a legit loss. It’s just harder to stomach because of Sunday’s loss which should have been a win. We’re used to seeing them bounce back quick… They’re luck they’re still up though. I don’t know how they’ll do it, but they will

  532. nyj0126 says:

If your as superstition about the magic number, than you should be about the number 17 too lol In reality though, that’s not why we’re losing. We’re losing because they’ve lost their momentum. I think the rain outs hurt. It’s forced Knight into the rotation and we haven’t even see that yet. It stopped the momentum a bit too…

But that is baseball. This Mets team picks it up. It’s better than last year. A couple of bad days can convince the team otherwise. Than when the Mets are back to winning like 6 in a row, people are in love with the team once again… This team will get it done for as crazy as that sounds.

Some good news is that Houston – one of the hotter teams lost tonight to the Cubs. It’s make the Cubs get closer to clinching their playoff birth and home field advantage through the playoffs. The Mets play them next week so the games may not matter for them. That can actually be a bad thing though lol I don’t know…

  533. shiprdr19 says:

can anyone sum up what jerry said in the postgame about taking rincon out after 2 outs? did he address it?

  534. LL says:

No matter what, we just have to win games. Have to get it done. It’s virtually a tie now. Whoever wins the most games until the end wins, plain and simple. A very short season of 13 games. We have to out-win the sillies by just one game. Hopefully it’ll be more than that!

  535. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    Lets update that standings box……

    CHOKE MUCH MUTTS FANS???

    • nyj0126 says:

And where exactly were you on Wednesday or Thursday? lol Go back to bed. By Wednesday or Thursday this week, you’ll be worrying about the Eagles… Not the Phillies

  536. nyj0126 says:

Hey, even if we both tie as long as we’re ahead of Milwaukee and Houston in the wild card that’s okay… Because than the Mets are win the tie breaker based on the head-to-head 11-7 record against the Phils. That’s not how you want to think, but it’s an advantage… Trust me. I say 92 gets them in. Mets go 9-4 and Phillies go 8-4… Phillies win the WC

  537. LL says:

I really want to get into the playoffs, be it WC or the division. But I really want us to take the division, big time! Things are going to get crazy the next 2 weeks. Don’t know how I’m going to make it. Can’t imagine how the players handle this.

  538. nyj0126 says:

Don’t egg on the ”Chokeartist” screen name guy to come back on here lol He’s been waiting for this moment for a couple weeks. I’m hoping this ends quick too… We need to win all 3 games that are coming up. And than take at least 2 of 3 from Atlanta. Maybe Atlanta can help s out on Philly…

Jones is going going going touchdown! lol

  539. Wrighton92 says:

    And Dirty.

  540. Wrighton92 says:

based on this inning, never mind

  541. Wrighton92 says:

I believe it was off Walter Johnson of the other Washington team.

  542. Furioso says:

    No.

I don’t believe in “tipping your cap”

You may as well go to the White Swallow Bar and spread the cheeks wide open for business, it amounts to the same.

“Thank you for f**king up the a** “

  543. gomets6091 says:

remember this time last year, when the Giants were 0-2 and EVERYONE in NY wanted him gone?

  544. Central NJ Mets fan says:

Maybe Coughlin can manage baseball in his off season? At least he’d light a fire under these player’s butts!

  545. Furioso says:

    Yes, the parallel is AMAZING
