Note: Phillies are in First, Wright is still Confident
By Matthew Cerrone - Sep 16, 2008 10:58 pm

The Phillies defeated the Braves tonight, meaning the Phillies now lead the Mets by one win for first place in the NL East, though both teams are tied in the loss column.

David Wright, following tonight’s loss to the Nationals, said:

“This is what makes it fun…This is what you work hard for.  This is what you prepare for…This is a bump in the road.  It doesn’t matter what Philadelphia does.  It only matters what the guys in this clubhouse do and we plan on getting the job done.  Like I said, we’re gonna see what we’re made of.  This is a little bump in the road, and I’m excited moving forward because I think we’ve got a room full of guys who will not allow us to fail.”

Jose Reyes, speaking to reporters, said:

“We’re still in a good position.  We just have to start again…It’s not going to be easy.  So, we just need to win.”

There are 12 games left in the 2008 season.

    Wright is confident.

I feel so much better know. I probably won’t expect him to ground into a double play with the bases loaded, nor expect the bullpen to lay turds.

CONFIDENCE. It is all so much better.

    • jectalo says:

      we’re 1/2 game back not 1 game.

this is the worst edited blog ever.

      • mgska55 says:

It clearly says they are “one win ahead.” Which is another way of saying a 1/2 game ahead.

      • DoubleRR07 says:

He means 1 game up in the win column man. Get with the program. We’re ahead I believe 1 or 2 in the loss but down a whole game in the win and thats what its gonna come down to my inexperienced friend. Down in the win column means down in the division race.

        • el_giacomo says:

Matt edited the initial error. Originally gave us 2 losses for this loss, and the post mentioned that we were one game behind the Phillies in the standings and the loss column standings to the left were also wrong (had Mets at 83-68).

    • cheddabuddha says:

Please get rid of all our stars and revamp our minor league system. Id rather watch rookies out there trying hard and failing then high paid athletes looking like a deer in the head lights. Bring back the mets in the 70’s that way I have no expectations to be shattered.

    • OrangeNblue says:

I love David Wright and I also love Jose Reyes. Reading what Wright had to say to that reporter I cannot help but think of last year, same talk of not giving up and “my guys will come through” type BS. We have failed already in a way. Why give away a 4 game lead (3.5 games plus 1 game in the loss column?). Why? WHY?! Heilman, Sanchez, Feliciano, AND Castillo have to go. Our bullpen is horrendous, our offense suddenly looks OFFENSIVE! Our players are tight! And there are the Phillies, fighting their way back to first. Those players on the other side have BALLS. The same balls players like Beltran, Heilman and others donning the Mets uniform lack. I’m still going to watch my team win or lose, I will put myself through the same suffering of last year, watching us SINK, SINK, SINK and reading about “we will not fail” BS. All the while the Phillies show courage and take the NL East crown and that is what bothers me SOOOOO SO SO SO SO SO SO F-ING MUCH!

  2. mookie says:

Nothing personal David , but please shut up.

  3. fortleemets says:

Mets fans: Stop being cry-babies and enjoy this. Are you watching sports to watch your team win or are you watching sports to watch the game that you love? If it’s not the latter, go cheer for the Yankees. Stay true.

    • XbLaDe31 says:

I agree its going to be fun. To watch i still believe that the Mets will win the division, but if they dont the wild card for sure, and like Jerry said and i said earlier a lot teams have won the WS or gone to the WS out of the wild card.

      • DjDeF says:

please meet me on the corner i will get you $20 you give me what you are smoking

        • XbLaDe31 says:

dont post at all what is with you ppl it FEN baseball you clowns you cant win every game!!!!!!

        • LetsGetMetsmerized says:

I think they will win the division too. The Mets still control their own destiny and I still think they are the better team that hit a rough spot here. This team will bounce back.

      • losmets5 says:

COLORADO ROCKIES!!! Did the Cards win the WC in ‘06? And if they did, then HELL YEAH BABY!!! 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008, people! BELIEEEEVE!!!

    • mrmustseetv says:

Um, I believe win. Because lord knows I love to watch sports to watch my teams lose and choke like they were Jenna Jameson going down on John Holmes.

    • Thank You! I’m with you 100%!

I love the Mets, more than almost anything, and obviously I’d prefer that they win, but I also LOVE BASEBALL. It means so much to me that I can practically use it to symbolize everything that goes on in life. I can’t say that about football or basketball, which I enjoy as well, but not like baseball.

This will be fun – and surely nerve-wracking. But I’ve been expecting this to be a VERY close race since Jerry Manuel took over, and as long as I see the Mets give it their all, i can accept if they lose. I can take it if the Phillies are better, as long as we give 110% everyday.

It’s been one hell of a ride already – the last 12 games will not disappoint.

      Lets go Mets!!!

      • phillygalfan says:

Well said, and the sentiments of a true fan. It will be a great ride, no matter which team wins. Good Luck!

    • Reyes es el Rey says:

fortlee, c’mon dude. I love baseball, but watching the mets blow division leads by getting dominated by odalis perez is not fun. If I just want to enjoy the game I’ll flip to another channel of extra innings, but I want to see the Mets WIN!

  4. filthyramirez says:

Wrights prob on his way with Reyes to meet the Dirty.com girls right now. Nice b.s David you choker

  5. Mex_17 says:

Seriously, that is a moronic comment considering that the Mets no longer even control their own destiny.

“Will not allow us to fail”??? Genius Wright, you already failed. Again.

    • Ceetar says:

Just to interject into the stupidity here.

The Mets control their own destiny. If the Mets don’t lose another game, the Phillies cannot win the division.

If Manuel really mentioned the wild card, that’s pathetic. Why would he send the message that it’s alright if they don’t think they can take first?

      • Two-By-Four says:

He might be trying, in his own way, to take the pressure off of them.

      • patrick says:

Yes, interject into the Stupidity Ceetar.

If the Mets win every game…that is to say win more games consecutively then the franchise has ever done, to finish a season no less, they win the division. GOOD THINKING.

And with Brandon Knight going tonight, Pedro pitching in Atlanta this weekend as well as Jon Niese throwing one more game next week against the Cubs, it is crystal clear this 12 game win streak of non stupidity.

        Good job Ceetar, good job.

  6. DjDeF says:

This is what you work hard for? Blowing a 4 game lead? I guess you guys should not waste your time working hard and continue enjoying being baseball stars. Oh wait you already do that,

David I am out of solutions.

  7. dominicanboy08 says:

I just feel we wont collapse again. we will get it done, no matter how, but we will get it done!

  8. metsfanmurph says:

Wright is confident when he is talking to a reporter but he isn’t so confident when he is up with 2 outs and men in scoring position.

  9. HeadlinerG60 says:

I’m enjoying this too, like the rest of you, right guys?

  10. XbLaDe31 says:

Isnt past your bedtime? Everyone of your post is negative!!! Could you either try and say something positive if not go to your room and cry and pout about it we dont need it here this isnt the METS.com board where just about everyone there is a cry baby like you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • RodKanehl says:

You want positive…. The Mets are POSITIVELY the biggest bunch of choker s in baseball history. They POSITIVELY have no guts, they POSITIVELY have no leadership, they POSITIVELY have no testicular fortitude.

  11. zen says:

the only thing that can save the mets is that the brewers are also choking AGAIN

  12. HeadlinerG60 says:

And the thing, quite frankly, I’m having fun.

  13. skylog says:

and……fielder up with two on and…..it just gets better

  14. thebullpensERA says:

PLEASE SHUT THE F%*^K UP DAVID I THINK I HEARD THIS LAST YEAR.

  15. thebullpensERA says:

    THIS IS NOT FUN!
I WOULD BE IF THE METS HAD HEART

    • Boscov says:

All you guys are unbelievable. Stop taking losses to the pathetic Nationals as meaning the Met shave no “heart.” Stop spitting out media generics, regurgitating the post and newsday and the daily news IDIOCY. Stop thinking you can tell if a player has heart or not based on what he looks like walking to the dugout after a strikeout, or dancing salsa in the dugout. Stop pretending you know these players, you know what the clubhouse is like, that you know they’re “collapsing” again this year. Stop being so impulsive you can’t for a second hold back your emotion and realize there’s 12 games left to play. Stop being a typical Mets fan an thinking, “oh no, it’s happening again.” Stop posting idiotic messages on metsblog.com when tomorrow night everything could change and the team could magically have heart again. stop making these conclusive Mets are Done statements after a loss only to make the Mets Are A Different Team! posts after wins. Just stop, you all look really ignorant pretending to know this much about these men. Stop thinking they care as much as you do when they’re being paid millions and we pay millions. Just stop. Idiots.

  16. ccmetfan says:

    Cubs win!!!

  17. Coolpapabell says:

I guess I should not bother putting the Champagne on ice.

    Those fing Nats again.

  18. skylog says:

thank god. something didn’t go horribly wrong. brewers finally went down. we need the cubs to be locked up for that series coming up

  19. Keyser says:

Matt, you have had lot sof spelling errors, mistakes in facts of the game, etc. but this just takes the cake. The Mets (83-67) are tied in the loss column with the Phillies (84-67), 1/2 game behind, and still control their own destiny for the NL East title (at least today). Not only is your post completely wrong, but your loss column standing is wrong as well. I expect more, a lot more, from the official blog of the Mets.

    • Keyser says:

Of course, I proceed to make a spelling mistake in the first sentence of my post :-)

      • el_giacomo says:

big difference between spelling/grammar errors in comments than the actual blog posts…you’re forgiven.

    • el_giacomo says:

i was just about to post re: the standings…beat me to it. yeah…that’s a pretty blatant error there…things are bad enough as it is…no need to make it any worse by adding an extra loss for the Mets!

  20. thebullpensERA says:

“THIS WILL MAKE THE CHAMPAGNE TASTE THAT MUCH SWEETER”
    -WILLIE RANDOLPH SEP 2007

  21. Sylar says:

Are you sure that David said that? Because that sounds exactly like something from Willie Randolph….

  22. grotesmask says:

David Wright has now morphed into George Orwell:

    Losing=Fun

    WInning is for losers.

  23. filthyramirez says:

Wright and Reyes are idiots who are probably out trying to get laid by those dirty.com girls again they don’t care. None of them do. The only person that really cared and gave a full effort was Tatis and he’s gone. Reyes and Wright are spoiled superstars. Delgado has his personal achivements to be satisfied about. And Castillo prob cares more about his job at this point. Screw this team. Heartless gutless pieces of crap

    • grotesmask says:

My man, you need a drink, you need to take a walk, and then count to ten slowly.

Didn’t they tell you when you got your card? This is the essence of being a Mets fan.

      • filthyramirez says:

actually I’ll take that back about Wright cause he was pissed off after that Willie Harris catch, but why was he so pissed if he still thought his team was still in a good position, and why was he so agressive in the batters box?

        • he was pissed because he smoked that ball and had nothing to show for it…

its a matter of breaks, and we’ll get some because we’re a good team… just wait and see, i have little doubt that this division crown will be ours

  24. 4eyeJoe says:

hey david wright and jose reyes ….. how about shut the hell up and get some damn hits or take some bloody bases on balls.

  25. nym91 says:

    BELIEVE.BELIEVE.BELIEVE

  26. Mex_17 says:

It’s time for Manuel to call some people out by name.

He’s done great, but he’s turning all Willie on us during the Collapse Part Deux.

  27. toomanyuniforms says:

You can’t force it. If David and the Mets aren’t enraged and humiliated, and don’t see this as a challenge to their manhood and professionalism, how did they get this far?

Oh, and Jose? Don’t let the door smack you in the arse on the way out of town.

    • Danny says:

Wow, that is a stupid post. Well done.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

        Thanks for weighing in, moron.

There are some fans who are so ridiculously insecure and so frightened by the prospect that — gasp — the Mets might not make the playoffs, that they lash out any time they read anything the slightest bit pessimistic. You are one of those fans. Please grow a pair.

        • Danny says:

What did your post do with having to make the playoffs or not? All you did was bash the 2 best players on our team.

Yeah, we should definitely trade Jose Reyes. Where can I petition for you to be the GM?

Great job outta you in the GMing scenario there.

  28. mday1183 says:

    Matt,

Just to clarify. The Mets are tied in the loss column with the 67 losses and a half game out in the standings.

  29. yagattabelieve says:

    I’m depressed.

  30. zen says:

and if reyes and wright didn’t face the media they’d be ripped apart.

    relax

  31. toomanyuniforms says:

David’s little Anthony Robbins attempt at “leadership” is pretty limp, incidentally. A gauntlet has been thrown down. You accept the challenge, you don’t talk about how excited you are after having failed to do your job.

    • Danny says:

Yeah, he shouldn’t stay positive in the face of adversity.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

EVERYONE: please tread lightly. “Danny” is shaken by the Mets’ performance and criticism of his heroes is really upsetting him. Please refrain from pointing out the obvious — that the Mets are a constitutionally weak team with a gaping leadership vacuum — as it’s giving poor Danny a stomach ache.

        • Danny says:

EVERYONE: toomanyuniforms sets the standard for “leadership”. Please be advised that anything he says is only to prod these guys into a better performance.

He lashes out only because he cares.

          Ever the realist!

  32. losmets5 says:

WOOOOOOOO!!! 1ST PLACE IN THE WILDCARD!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!!

  33. The Slider says:

Our new slogan: “It’s just a bump in the road.”

    • Mex_17 says:

Maybe they should change their name to the “New York Collapsers”, then this would just seem natural.

  34. losmets5 says:

I’m surprised at what I’m aboout to say but I feel confident in this team. They just need to WIN!!!!

  35. Mex_17 says:

I’d love to hear the conversation this offseason when Omar asks the Wilpons for more millions of dollars to sign even more expensive free agents.

  36. methead says:

Time for this team to man up. Santana really should start tomorrow on short rest.

  37. zen says:

destiny is in the mets hands. ahead in the wild card and tied with the phils in the all important loss column.

    :)~

  38. yagattabelieve says:

It’s more like a crater in the road

  39. dazedandconfused says:

Big off season before 2009 coming up. Hopefully no more Omar.

    • Mex_17 says:

Wilpons love Omar for some bizarre reason.

I think they are going to make him GM/Coach like Isiah Thomas.

  40. perge says:

FWIW, we do still “control our own destiny.” Tied in the loss column.

That said, I want September baseball a la 2003 for a change (albeit preferably with GK+R rather than Healy/Robinson/etc.). Didn’t I used to enjoy watching baseball? Spending an evening with Team Tightrope is like eating a tub of hot mayonnaise.

  41. kd bart says:

It seems that being off last Thursday and then being rained out on Friday really cooled off the bats. If you really be truthful, this team hasn’t really been hitting since Saturday. Think back on Saturday during the first game. Twice they had bases loaded no uts and only managed two runs and one was on a DP. They’ve only managed 13 runs in the last 5 games. They scored 23 in the previous two.

  42. mrmet1969 says:

I agree, David you need to just focus on your lack of hitting against the bad nats. Yet I see that the media always goes to him fjor a quote and he will talk and not hide in the trainer’s rm or disappear cause I don’t hear anything from the other ldrs on this tm talking. He is always the one even if he is saying the same thing. He is a stand up guy, I believe Mets will make it to playoffs but the fact that the mid of order has suddenly gone cold after the past wk of bashing hrs and hits? they are pressing whether they admit or not, just admit it and go out give it your all. I still believe in Mets and do not believe that this is choking cause they were out of 1st until the end of aug and now everyone wants to make like they were in 1st all yr and are collapsing, sheeshs, with all the injuries, esp wagner and moises, surprise, getting hurt, and church missing most of yr, mets have had to mix and match to win and they have. They will win at least 90 games considering that all fans had written them off during randolph reign. So take a breath remain optomistic and they can still make playoffs and then it is a new season. Lets Go Mets.

  43. mday1183 says:

Before tonight’s loss I wasn’t too worried about the team, but with the loss tonight, memories of last year are in full swing. I don’t care what the players say, this is now taking a toll on their play. There was evidence tonight with how they swung the bats.

BUT…with the said, they are still tied in the loss with Philly for the division and 1 game up in the loss on the Brewers for the wildcard. On June 17th I think each one of us would have signed to be in this position right now.

This is where they need to draw the line. They can’t afford to fall any farther back.

  44. enoughisenough says:

He also started with “you;ve got to tip your cap to the nationals”.

    How bout no, you idiot.

This dude is starting to get annoying.

  45. smm140 says:

NO SH*T! now just go out and win, don’t talk about it! if that kind of talk meant anything, we’d be polishing that 2007 division champ banner right now. GET A CLUE!

  46. toomanyuniforms says:

David=masochist. It all makes sense! He loves the Collapse! Stay-tuned for the press conference designed to quash the rumors

  47. wallybackman'sfire says:

It is simply amazing how this team, when it matters, falls apart. They are a team incapable of playing the last 2 weeks of a season.

It is simply amazing how the Phillies, when it matters, stand up. They are one tough son of a gun team that just comes together in every way in the last 2 weeks of a season.

I’ve been a fan of the Mets since ‘77. Last year’s team and this year’s team (they aren’t going to win the division folks), are just killing me. I’d rather be a last place team than have this excruciating torture of watching them choke/fall apart 2 years in a row.

Oh and is our magic # still at 13?….

  48. kd bart says:

When you take a step back, it is amazing that the Mets are even in the position they are in. Think about it. They lost their closer for the last third of the season. Had no Pedro or John Maine for big chunks of the season. Had various injuries throughout the season to their two top catchers and second basemen. Lost their left fielder for basically the entire season and their right fielder for a large chunk of the season. Lost a valuable backup outfielder, Pagan, for most of the season. Have had to fill in with has beens like Tatis and youngsters like Murphy and Evans for a large part of the season. Yet here they are in a pennant race. I don’t believe the Phillies have had to go through this or even the Brewers. It really is remarkable when you take a step back.

    • skylog says:

i agree, and have said it many times throughout the season, but……all of that really is for not given they seem to tossing all of that away here at the end of the season. sure, the season is not over and who really knows, but it would be such a dissapointment to step back, see that, and then realize what they had tossed aside. more so if they finish the “collapse” by simply playing horrid ball these final 12 games.

    • moogman says:

A true post – seeing the struggles should make them have more confidence. Unfortunately, they only see the ghosts of 2007 chasing them – as all most of us.

I really do believe the Mets are better than the Phillies.

What did these guys expect? O.Perez was practically throwing BP to these guys – if they made better AB’s.

Pelf should be pissed and tell the starting 8 to F-themselves from tonight. If he threw a perfect game, it may not have mattered, they way they were swinging in the dirt.

They looked like Kingsport could beat them.

  49. SuicideWatch says:

    ATTENTION ALL:

As per my log in name, I will be climbing to the top of the Whitestone Bridge at noon tomorrow, taking one last look at Shea in the distant and ending it. Please feel free to stop by and wish me well.

  50. 69mets86 says:

Honestly…I don’t want them to settle for the “wild card,” I want the division. The Phils robbed them of it last year and quite frankly I don’t wanna watch them surrender it this year. The division belongs in NY.

They can do this. Everytime I look back to August and how far we’ve come, I see champions. The Phillies are a bunch of bums. The Mets rule the NL East and this year we need to show them and shut them up for good.

    • nyj0126 says:

This season isn’t about the Phillies. It’s about the Mets. Giving it back to the Phillies is just icing on the cake. I’m more concerned about winning a world series than winning a division. And right now, the Dodgers and Cubs look equally tough.

Who would remember who won the NL East if the Mets won the world series? Or even made it to it? And perhaps beat the Phillies in the NLCS to do so? No one. I want to win the division too – but the wild card can be a godsend to this team if the Phillies don’t cool off.

  51. mrmustseetv says:

Ahem, well Wright is “confident” and Reyes thinks the Mets are “in a good position.”

Well, on behalf of myself and many Mets fans, David and Jose……GO F URSELVES!

  52. Furioso says:

It doesn’t matter what Philadelphia does.

Um….Arod Jr, actually it DOES matter what Philly does, because you’re not in control of your own divisional destiny anymore

    Now please STFU.

    • Sylar says:

And of course, if he says nothing, he would be called out for “hiding from the press”

A-Rod Jr? Hilarious…. in the sense that A-Rod is the best player on that team and Yankee fans are too retarded to realize how bad their team would be without him…

    • nyj0126 says:

Of course it matters what Philly does and what Milwaukee does too. We know the Mets are not a perfect team and we know they’ll need help.

The Wild Card looks more realistic than the division which may be all the better thing so we can steal the NLCS from them at home. Do you guys know how hot the Dodgers have been anyway? The Cubs might be a better bet.

I don’t want to here what David Wright, Jose Reyes or anyone thinks. I want to see them play. I want to see them play hard. I want to see emotion. I want to see each and every pitch be taken seriously. I want to see Delgado running out dropped third strikes on the last out of a game in a one run game. I want to see Ryan Church take serious swings and not play against lefty’s when he’s struggling.

Why can’t this team just score like 2 runs to start out a game? It’ll boost the confidence. We can still have a series split here. We got maybe the best guy going in baseball on Thursday.

    • kd bart says:

They’re tied in the loss column so they’re still in control of their own destiny. If they won the rest of their games including a one game playoff, they’d win the division.

      • Furioso says:

        Oh well then.

        IT’S ALL GOOD!!!!!

        WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOO

        • therealsince86 says:

Guys like you see no point in this, I however do. You don’t have to win every game you just can’t lose anymore than the Phillies the rest of the way. Who knows if that will happen or not but either way they are still in control but barely.

  53. nyj0126 says:

The Wild Card is just as good an option as the NL East because it gives us a chance. We play good against tough competition. We’d still get revenge on Philly. Imagine getting to play them in the NLCS? Give me a win there over an NL East banner any day. It’d feel better celebrating in their ballpark so we can rub it in their faces. Or even if we had a 163rd game.

I don’t see Milwaukee holding it together. I don’t see Houston, St. Louis or Florida making a serious bid. It’s coming down to the Mets and Brew Crew. We’ll do it. We may not go 10 out of 12, but saying 6-8 can happen. Once we get hot, we won’t cool down. Maybe it’s to our benefit that a ”hot streak” is waiting to happen. Everyone knows how the candle burns out on this team. There’s no off days this time around.

If you want to get things moving, you got to make demands. Omar has to make this season the deciding factor of Manuel’s return. These guy’s don’t want to see him go, trust me.

    • Furioso says:

The Wild Card is just as good an option as the NL East because it gives us a chance

I label this the official “lowering of expectations” post

      • nyj0126 says:

So be it that. Give me a chance to win a world series and get revenge on the Phillies in the playoffs and I’ll be thankful. Don’t get me wrong. I want the division. I know it’s in reach. But do you know how hot the Phillies are? And how cold the Mets are? Maybe the tides will change. It’s out of their hands now. Now what they can command is the Wild Card. It’s the best or worse thing. Just a thing. And I want it over nothing.

Remember, it’s not a collapse if we win the Wild Card. Just a tad disappointing. Unless we get far.

  54. Furioso says:

If they miss the playoffs entirely, Omar has to destroy the core of this team.

Someone big is gonna have to go.

    • nyj0126 says:

Yeah, how about Omar? How about Fred Wilpon becoming a little less timid? Take out the guy who’s responsible for putting the team together.

Imagine us with Lindstrom and Heath Bell right about now?

If we don’t make the playoffs, bye bye Jerry. Thank you for the help, but it’s too late. Sign K-Rod. Get some bullpen help. Re-sign Ollie. And transform this team. Even if it means trading David Wright. Or wait – that might be a little too drastic. Maybe not though.

      • therealsince86 says:

Wouldn’t you have to imagine us with Lindstrom and Bell without Church, Schnieder, Santana, Stokes, Ayala, …….. LOL.

  55. derxmasta says:

can mr cerrone put up the phillies magic #
with mr met in the back ground chasing the phantic?

  56. nyj0126 says:

Brad Lidge is a great closer. Although he’s had his moments. Ask Albert. Billy is not a great closer. He didn’t deserve to make the All-Star game. He blew so many games. So many important games. So many shut out games. I am glad he is gone. I know he’s a good guy, but he’s not a Met. It’s not like he spoke confidently on believing this team could win a world series in his interview with the press. He speaks like he’s not apart of the team anymore. A me player like Rickey Henderson.

    • kd bart says:

Tonight was a John Franco type save for Lidge. Load the bases on three walks and wiggle your way out of it. He’s had a few of those lately.

  57. Furioso says:

    Rotoworld:

Jose Reyes went hitless as the Mets were shut down by Washington’s Odalis Perez on Tuesday.

As Reyes chokes, so choke the Mets. The shortstop is in the midst of a second straight disastrous September. He’s currently 11-for-54 with three runs scored and three RBI through 13 games. He’s even been caught on a third of his six steal attempts after entering the month with a 79-percent success rate.

    —-

    I’m onboard with trading Reyes.

  58. trippingac says:

Listen, everyone here needs to take a step back and calm down. Try to forget about what happened over the last 5 games and see this: The Mets are tied in the loss column with the Phillies, and they are 1 game ahead in the loss column of the Brewers and in first place for the Wild Card. Do you really think this is a bad place to be in?

I realize how much this feels like last september already. Trust me. I love this team as much as all of you do, as I’m a die-hard fan of 23 years. You have to believe. You have to believe that these guys can do it. They have played too well since July 1st to go down again like they did last september.

I still believe in this team. They have showed me too many good things over the last 2 and a half months, the last 5 games notwithstanding, to make me give up on them. And if you don’t believe in this team anymore, at least recognize that it would be simply ABSURD to concede the season with the Mets where they are in the standings right now.

12 games left. It all comes down to this. This team can do it, and they are going to do it.

    Believe.

    LET’S GO METS.

    • kd bart says:

Thought all along it would come down to the last week. Thought it when they were 3 games out with 51 to play and some on this site threw in the towel. Thought it when they got up by 3 games. These two teams have been like this for awhile. The team I did not expect to fold like they have is the Brewers. 3-12 for September with CC and Ben. Blowing a 5 game lead in the wild card.

  59. Seaver41 says:

Whatever David Wright is smoking that makes him so confident, tell him to ship me some, so I too can become incoherent and delusional.
Losing 1-0 to a mediocre pitcher one night and scratching out one hit against another in another game is FUN?
Was it fun for him to hit into a double play the other night with one out and the bases loaded?
Was it fun for him last night to strike out on a fastball right down the middle of the plate leading off the bottom of the 9th inning, representing the tying run?
Is it fun to fall out first place and run the risk of choking away the top spot two consecutive years?
Sorry, D-Wright, but we Mets fans don’t call that fun.
We call it torture, bordering on emotional abuse.

  60. derxmasta says:

i dont think anybody has given up
we are merely expressing our frustration.
just wish the faces of the mets would express some emtion as well.
their laid back attitude is reminicant (sp?) of willie’s champange comment…

    • nyj0126 says:

don’t remind me of that champange lol I know people haven’t given up… Just stressed. That’s all. We’re real fans. I just want to see this team wake up. They will… I just don’t know if it’ll be tomorrow. We need to soon while the Brewers are still dead… And while the Phillies are not too ahead.

  61. LL says:

Baseball is a game of streaks. We’re going through ours right now. Better to give up the lead in the division today than on the last day…like last year. Hopefully we’ll come through. The Sillies can’t keep winning forever. The tide will change.

    • Danny says:

I’m confused by your logic and reason.

      • LL says:

How so? Read it again. It makes sense. We are going through a rough stretch now, but we should hopefully go through a good stretch soon, leading to the end of the season and thus taking the division. Just as the Sillies are playing very well now, but they will begin to lose again, thus losing out on the division. Comprende?

        • Danny says:

I was making fun of all the insanely irrational posts that preceded your very rational post.

          I’m with you.

        • LL says:

Ok…my bad. I’m glad you see it with me. Nice to see some rational people on this blog.

        • X-Man says:

          LOL. That’s good LL.

So what you’re basically saying is that people on this post are rational only if they “See It with me”.

Just messing with you man, but you have to admit how that statement comes across?

        • Two-By-Four says:

Here’s the wild card or the fly in your ointment. It’s called the bullpen and they lose games the Mets should win. The offense will start hitting again but the bullpen remains a crapshoot.

    • ravi3 says:

Its true….If you look back to the fluctuation of the standings in the NL East, you’d see the Mets gaining momentum to catch up and take upto a 2-3 game lead on Philly, who in turn catches up, only to fall behind again. Its been a great race so far, and I just hope that at the end of the season, we are at teh point in the cycle where the Mets are on top.

  62. X-Man says:

    As reported by ESPN.com………………

the Phillies, led by Jimmy Rollins, started doing the Tomahawk Chop when Norton hit that three run- home-run in the top of the 9th on Monday. I hate those damn idiots. They are snickering and laughing at us again this year and as much as it hurts me to say, I would be laughing too at the Mets if I were a Phillies player or fan. How can you not?

  63. Steviefan84 says:

At a time like this, you’d hope you would find a different quote by David Wright but it’s just not there. He is a very talented young guy with a couple of years under his belt but he needs to stop sounding like he is giving P.C. answers and more feeling from the heart.

I don’t know what’s been going on with Wright, he’s been full of inconsistency along with most of the Mets lineup. Maybe we just expect more than what they are giving us because the middle of the order has been the same since 2006 with Delgado, Beltran and Wright and Jose Reyes leading the way.

I didn’t know how valuable a guy like Chad Bradford was at the time along with Darren Oliver but man, the Mets could use those guys.

    • Danny says:

The lineup has been fine. The starting pitching has been fine.

We’re in this position because the bullpen has been absolutely atrocious.

      • derxmasta says:

i think its someone different every night
        one night its the pen
then the next its starting pitching
        and today its the hitting

no One person (group) is to blame
        they are all responsible

      • nyj0126 says:

The line-up has been fine? Not tonight. Not the previous night. Not the day game on Saturday. They were great last week. But that’s when the starting pitching was getting a little bumpy. They’ve held it together.

There’s no doubt that the best strength of this team is it’s starting pitching. Losing Maine hurts. Losing the Maine that’s good hurts. The Maine we saw before he got hurt wasn’t a very good Maine. There may only be 2-3 teams that can compete to the Mets three punch in Johan, Pelf and Ollie.

I will not say this line up is fine though. I want runs. And I want leads early on. And I don’t want to see Pedro pitch anymore just because he has a big salary. Nor do I want to see Luis Castillo.

        • Danny says:

We are second in the NL in runs. Sometimes offenses have little mini-funks. The bullpen has been inconsistent all year and absolutely dreadful in the second half.

  64. nyj0126 says:

Well, as gone with age Billy Wagner became less competent. It’s like he was less dependable when he was an All-Star. So seeing him not be here isn’t such a bad thing. We have a horrendous bullpen. Maybe John Maine can help. I know Ricardo Rincon and Bobby Parnell may get on their own Ayala-Stokes-ish hot streak of their own if we let them.

Let’s all have common sense. David Wright will not be traded. Jose Reyes will not be traded. Neither will Beltran, Pelfrey or any of the core guys of this franchise. As for the bullpen, it’s been a long time since we could trust it. It was a disaster last season too. Guillermo Mota ring a bell?

In the last ten games, the Mets are 4-10. They’ve had 4 days off in 11 days which really has screwed with them. In their previous ten before that, they were 8-2. This was against some tough clubs like the Phillies, Marlins and Brewers.

If all of you made it 150 games to not wait out the last 12 with toughness, than good for you. I know I won’t give up. I know I’ll deal with the pain if it comes. I’m much happier that the Brewers are the Wild Card contending team and not the Rockies of 2007.

I’m happy to know the Mets and Phillies have both shared the division lead and the one who was on top usually is the one who struggles. It’s all about how hard you can breath. And this team can breath right down the neck of them. And you know what? They will.

You guy’s just don’t know it yet. This team will do it. And you will all be happy. And you will all want to throw your gloves up in the air like Brett Myers did on September 30th, 2007.

  65. nyj0126 says:

    4-6*

    • LL says:

That’s more like it. I got scared when i first read it. I didn’t think we were playing that badly for that long.

  66. Seaver41 says:

Where’s my post about D-Wright’s stupid quote?

  67. Seaver41 says:

I’ll say it again: I’ve seen lesser players than D-Wright STEP the &*^% up when their teams were counting on them to produce.
His geting robbed by Willie Harris notwithstanding, I’m about as tired of his moronic, myopic quotes as I am of his leaving runners in scoring position.

    • Danny says:

He’s staying positive in the face of adversity. What do you want him to say?

I’d rather have these guys remain confident and keep fighting. They are pressing a touch because the sticks have gone a little cold. It happens. They will turn it around.

      Baseball is a funny game.

  68. mr.gee21 says:

YAY three seasons in a row of meaningful games in September. This season is awesome!

Lets go Mets. You clawed back from a huge hole earlier this season — don’t lose it all now.

  69. Seaver41 says:

Danny: Didn’t we wait for them to turn it around last year?

    • Danny says:

Sure we did, and it didn’t happen.

Are you ruling out the possibility this year? Do you think this group is just incapable of a hot streak for 2 weeks?

      I don’t.

  70. Phillies fan 4 life says:

    Phils fan here..
Lets keep it realistic here…As a Phillies fan, I don’t hate the Mets, or the fans. You guys put up one hell of a season, and so did we. Personally I think both teams are mirror images of eachother, except you lost your closer, and we didn’t. Your right! Lidge is a HUGE part of why were back in 1st place, and so is the rest of the Phillies team…Howard especially. You guys still have alot of hope, because the Brew Crew has some tough games coming up, and the Astros are just falling apart. I aint going to lie, and I’m not just saying this as a fan, but….If both teams (mets and phils) somehow play eachother in the playoff’s, The Mets are going to lose…Sorry Guys, just keeping it real.

    • Danny says:

You have a reason to be confident. I would be confident in your place.

And you’re right, the difference in bullpens is the entire explanation for the current standings.

But there are still 2 weeks left. Just be sure to come back in 2 weeks and take your lashings if the Mets win! ;-)

I happen to think both teams are making the playoffs in some capacity.

    • X-Man says:

LOL, wouldn’t expect you to say otherwise. I feel the same way as you do, except about the part of the Phillies winning. LOL Sorry dude, just keeping it real.

    • nyj0126 says:

You seriously believe that? Well, I do give you credit for being somewhat sensible and showing respect for the Mets. Living in a place that’s like 99% Phillies fans and having Comcast and Harry Kalas’ home run addaaa herre can give you a thick skin and tolerance for Phillies fans. Being that I’m a Jets fan, sometimes I even root for the Eagles to beat the Giants lol There games are just as intense as the Mets and Phillies.

I respect your dedication to your team. I wouldn’t expect any real fan to think his team couldn’t win. I think both of us can agree that we’d love to play each other in the NLCS. Both of these clubs deserve to make the playoffs because of the seasons they’ve had.

What can’t be denied is who has home field advantage will have a significant advantage. I personally think the Mets feast on the Phillies better at Citizens Bank Park. Maybe it being that the New York area has more people which brings more Mets fans to the stadium. They’ll probably try to prevent out of PA-NJ-DE-MD ticket buyers come the playoffs if they play the Mets though lol The Phillies do got the Mets number when they’re down though. I give them that.

The Mets have had the Phillies number though. They’ve led in like 90% of the games. They were 11-7 even though they could have been like 14-4. The Phillies owned them last year though… I say it would go seven games though… It’d be more intense the Mets-Braves of 99′ and the Knicks-Heat rivalry put together. We’d take it though… Sorry. And we will win that NL East. Having the tie breaker if both of clinch will be the difference maker.

  71. HeadlinerG60 says:

Look at the Red Sox: a game out and leading the wild card. Look at us: 1/2 a game out and leading the wild card.

    • X-Man says:

Good point. I like this one better………………………look at the Yankees, a game out and leading the ……………………..oh wait, my bad. LOL

    • Two-By-Four says:

Except the Red Sox have a 7 game lead in the WC race.

  72. Phillies fan 4 life says:

I expected that from all of you as well. As a fan, I know its a tough pill to swallow considering your collapse last season. Honestly, I hope it comes down to a tie breaker. That way it’ll prove for sure who wants it more. If the Mets beat us, than I’ll definitly come back to earn my lashings…But your whips might not come out of the closet this season lol. Good luck guys

    • X-Man says:

We shall see my man. One thing I can say for sure today, and that is that there is no way to tell what is going to happen in the next two weeks. That’s the beauty of this sport we call baseball. The final script has not been written yet and I can guarantee you the ending is going to be something neither one of us can imagine. Hope to kick your buts but if we don’t, hey, se la vie.

      • X-Man says:

Good luck to you too. You’re going to need it! LOL. Just kidding.

      • MetfaninFL says:

I couldn’t agree more. Baseball more than any other sport gives us drama when we least expect it and takes drama away when we most expect it. Right now everyone seems to think the Mets are dead and the Phillies are going to walk into a division title. However, just last week a lot of people thought the Brewers were going to come into Philly and nail the coffin of the Phillies. Think about the division races this year. The NL East is all of the sudden looking like the best race when at the end of August it looked like the D’Backs and Dodgers would be the closest. My point is that you never know what can happen and its equally possible that the Mets fail to nail down a Playoff spot again as the Mets getting hot and making the playoffs. It doesn’t look great now but I think 2 weeks is an enternity in Pennant Race Time.

      • Two-By-Four says:

Yet the Giants winning the SB last year may be the most unexpected turn of events in the last century.

  73. nyj0126 says:

To tell you the truth, I’m happy all of this happened now and not a week later…

Here’s why. Let’s say the Phillies took one of four from the Brewers. The Mets would have done a couple things.

    A) Lost pace in the Wild Card. and the Brewers wouldn’t have fired Yost and would have more confidence.

    B) It would have ‘’set up” an up-coming hot streak from the Phillies on this kind of 5 day type skid.

That means we could be up like 2 1/2 and keep cruise… and bam… the Phillies go like 6 out of 7 in the last week while the Mets only win like 3 and get devestated. And the Brew Crew playing with more confidence would diminish the Wild Card potential.

It could be so much worse. Instead, we have a shot. We’re right where we want to be. We’d kiss the ground if we knew we’d be here in mid-June, wouldn’t we? We knew it wouldn’t be easy. We’ve had an ”invisible set up man” set up a hot streak coming… a 7 out of 8 clip with a .500 type week coming from the Phillies. Just wait and see. It was a different baseball world last Wednesday and will be next Weds. Baseball is a funny game…

    • trippingac says:

Very well put, nyj0126. Glad to see there are still some reasonable Mets fans out there who know it’s ridiculous to concede the season right now.

      Ya Gotta Believe.

      • kd bart says:

There were people here who were conceding the season when they were 3 games out with 51 to play. Hell, there are fans here who throw in the towel after one bad inning.

    • Two-By-Four says:

With all this predicting where were you when I needed you before the Stock Market went into free fall?

  74. nyj0126 says:

All I want is one thing from the Mets right now… A confidence boost. I want to see them play different tomorrow. I want to see them go out there and get out of that zombie mannerism they’re stuck in. I want to snap this 3 game losing streak…

Start from scatch. Get the bats going. Once the bats wake up, we have a chance to win. You know how high scoring games go with these Nats. And with Knight, it might just push the Mets into a slugfest tomorrow

  75. letsnotrepeat07 says:

So, David Wright, it’s fun to be 4 hit by the washington nationals, while you guys are now in 2nd place. And for once, why don’t you beat the frickin nats.

  76. sarky says:

I blame you Matt for putting up that stupid magic number graphic. Way to jinks this whole team.

    • kd bart says:

If the Phils and Mets do tie at the end and both are guaranteed of being in the playoffs, I don’t believe they play a one game playoff to determine the Division Champ. I believe one is declared the Champ. The other the Wild Card. I think the tie breaker is head to head record which means the Mets would win the division based on their 11-7 record versus the Phils.

  77. lalaland66613 says:

i am so sick of this team doing this it feels like last year all over again i just don’t under stand how you can not beat a team that is 25 games out these are the teames we have to beat up and we just can not do even last year the nats played us good it’s not the mangers fault it is the players that just can get the job done

    • Dirtysanchez says:

they are a major league team. They are teams that relish in playing spoiler….washington is no different. Look at it this way it took 2 REALLY good plays to keep the mets down. Had he missed either one…mets win this one.

      • kd bart says:

Look what the 2004 Mets did to the Cubs at the end of the season. Victor Diaz and Mike Jacobs with homers in September games that beat the Cubs and kept them from making the post season.

  78. Dirtysanchez says:

well it finally happened seasons over……NOT!!
And thats why this year is different than last. We still have 12 games to get back into first and knock over the phills. Like wright and reyes said..we just need to win and we intend to do just that. We have not seen the mets be chasers since 05…perhaps this is yet another blessing in disguise….this year has been full of them..
    LETS GO METS!!!

    • kd bart says:

Of course it is not over. Look at the Dodgers. Three weeks ago , they were losers of 8 straight. 5 games under .500 and 4 1/2 games back and looking hopeless. Now look at them. Winners of 14 out of 16. Seven games over .500 and 4 1/2 games up. It can turn like that.

  79. The Ladies Busdriver says:

There is a very good chance that i am going ot punch someone in the face at work specifically the one loud beligerent Philly fan that waits for me by the door every morning, if we dont go to the playoffs…

    • NickA33 says:

I second that. Did I mention that I live IN Atlanta and work with two Philly fans…I’ll buy you a plane ticket and we can go to town on my office when you’re done at yours…

  80. mylegshurt says:

The notion that no one is tradeable on a team that doesn’t win is nonsense. Issue is whether the current combination of players can get you there — if trading a star player will get you the pieces you need, you do it. Whether you can get the right deal by trading Reyes (or anyone else) is a different issue.

    • Danny says:

Actually, trading the second-best player at the most premium everyday position is pretty much always stupid.

    • therealsince86 says:

I do see points in this, however you don’t trade a player who is in the top 3 in his position that is signed and under contract. Thus you can’t trade Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Santana and that’s about it.

  81. mookstra says:

Game 6, bottom of the 10th, 2 outs, nobody on, trailing by 2…….season over right? Well we all know what happened next.

I know this is a different team and different times and I am in no way comparing ths team or this teams heart to 86, but my point is it is never over until the last out in the season is made. Let’s hope that these 2 journeymen pitchers pitched the games of their lives. BobbyJones pitched a one hitter against the giants once too and we all sung his praises…..yet are we really going to compare him to tom seaver or an 85 Doc? THese guys may be journeymen who lose more than they win, but they are still major leaguers capable of having a great game. A win tonight and a phillie loss will change everyone’s tune on here.

  82. janss36 says:

    Season. Over.

    • therealsince86 says:

Well good, then there will be no reason for you to post on here until after the WS and the offseason begins. Have fun fishing.

  83. TobeRinkler says:

If Wright & Delgado are finished witrh their hot streaks, somebody else’s got to get hitting for this to happen. Let’s go, boys–win one for the tater.

  84. LIMetfan74 says:

Season on the line and I have to count on Brandon Kinght.
    FUBAR!!!!!

    • atlantasnumber1metsfan says:

Bring on the whining…bring on the complaining. The Mets will make the playoffs…without a doubt in my mind…even if we lose tonight, we will make the playoffs. This is the perfect time for a losing streak as long as it doesn’t continue, and with Johan on the mound tomorrow it will not continue.

    • enoughisenough says:

Fortunately the Nats are throwing some clown out there tonight as well.

      • therealsince86 says:

Unfortunately we seem to do the worst against clowns. Not to mention this clown has an ERA under 3.00. Go get Brandon Webb to pitch against us for the night and we may be able to win.

  85. NY Cuban says:

I love that David picked up right where Willie left off. How’s that champagne gonna taste David? How about you pick up the offense with all of this confidence? How about you just shut up and not choke in the big spot….thats what “leaders” do.

    • Prismo says:

Do you even watch the games?

Last night David hit a ball to deep left field that would’ve at least tied up the game. Willie Harris made a diving catch towards the fence to reel it in. How is that Wright’s fault? How does that mean he’s any less clutch than if Harris had missed by an inch?

      • enoughisenough says:

do YOU watch the games?? HARRIS MISPLAYED THE BALL BADLY TO BEGIN WITH. The only good play was the recovery. Otherwise, it was an easy play going back to his right. It wasn;t a clutch hit that got robbed. It was an easy play.

      • NY Cuban says:

Do you have any confidence that Wright will put this team on his back and will them to this division title? I think I have more confidence in Beltran than in Wright…and thats saying alot.

      • patrick says:

Wright got good wood there, but that was a terrible read by Harris, it should have simply been a step back and catch it play.

    • therealsince86 says:

Cuban you know he is in a bad spot. He is the face of the franchise and has to speak to the media. If he did not the entire media would make it about him not speaking. If he comes out and bashes himself or his teammates then the entire story would be about that. Either one of those would just increase the media attention and pressure on the team. He has been trained to say the most politically correct thing possible and it has no meaning as to how he or the team fills.

Of course we would like him to come out and say I stunk tonight, we stunk tonight, Awful Reyes can’t hit and we are in trouble with Tatis out. However, we both know that is not what is best for the team and would be even more of a media circus.

      • NY Cuban says:

I just wish he wasn’t SOOOO politically correct. It comes off as completely disingenous. I don’t know, but to me there is a difference between hearing a Jeter quote and an A-Rod quote…I just get a different feeling on the substance. D-Wright always sounds scripted, alot like Mr. Rodriguez.

        • therealsince86 says:

I am sure much of it is scripted. As a high school coach we have to coach our star players to speak to the media. The media wants a big story. Wright is the face of the franchise and thankfully says nothing to get the circus moving. You don’t think the media would love for Wright to show signs of collapsing too? Wouldn’t you love those headlines. A disgruntle Wright lashes out at his teammates, blames them for the collapse.

    • patrick says:

Hey about that Magic when you do not play Castillo, oh right that actually means nothing.

How about those metsis?? They never disappoint…..

  88. DWright31 says:

Mets no longer in first, but still confident? Where have I heard this before?

My God…it really is 2007 all over again. From the bullpen woes, no clutch hitting, having to start rookies and September callups in big games (tonight is an absolute loss btw), to the Phillies being red hot.

    What a disgrace.

What would you retards want David and the team to say? “We’re going to lose and we just give up” ? You retards can feel irked and scared all you want, but the only way through it is to try to believe this team. Stop being such pansies and cheer for the Mets. Because if the Mets lay down its because the fans are already laying down with them.

A week ago the Philly forums sounded an awful alot like this on their skid – things in baseball can change fast. So chin up.

  90. Jocko Johnson says:

Yeah this is really funny! Dave I will be sitting in my home laughing my a– off in Oct when I am watching the Playoffs and you guys are playing golf. But I will be crying inside! Very Funny…what the f—!!!!??? Dave get a grip! This is a choke times 2! He said it was fun! To lose? he said it was all about the Mets and not anyone else…except the “Fillithies again came from way beyond to win and beat the same team the beat the Mets when they came from behind to beat us! J-Man said he wasn’t gonna be selling any copies of his pre game speech, true dat, honest at least! David will be and is a good ball player. Maybe even a hall of famer on the numbers if he cab stay around a few years, but never the great player, the clutch guy we need, Jose too. Reyes said he had to tip his hat to Perez and the Nats…the worst team in BB and a pitcher who has a 7+ era and has been getting lite up for years! OK boys where is the real confidence? Pelfry, who pitched great, (one run and you lose to the Nats?) said, Honestly, no one in this locker room mentions or thinks about the 2007 collapse until you- the press brings it up! well look here big Pel, Jocko Johnson is thinking it all the time! and if you think the rest of us believe that than you are nuts! And if by any chance these guys really aren’t thinking it then that is why we need to get a big broom in there and sweep out the joint!!!! ——J-man also said that he likes his chances and the team is the team to beat. Well OK ’cause they are getting beat regularly…I guess it really wasn’t Willie’s fault—Yeah that’s right Jocko still loves Willie!

Look Meties’ fans…after this year, if and probably when we lose this thing, the Wilpon’s need to clean out the entire team and front office. Keep Wright and Reyes Santana, Pelfry, Maine, and try to get the “Good” Ollie…then keep the rookies and old Easley and Endy, get the rest of the young guys from the farm and maybe go after Tex for first base and another big starter and a couple of relievers. And yes, give Ferny Tats another chance, the guy played his heart out and left it on the field…Church as well. Besides they had no part of this stink from last year. Release Heilman out right. Jocko thinks that if he gets his pants let out a little looser he may pitch a bit better and won’t always have that grimace on his ugly mug!

The rest of the “pigpen” with the exception of maybe Smith and some or the younger guys have got to GO!!!!

See this is not about change or just starting over for a new ball park…it’s the fact that we need to wash this choking team clean out of the place. Get that stink off and out of the place!!!! Cause Jocko knows that if we don’t that every single year at the end of the year every last place team, like the Nat’s and the Braves etc…will be ginning for the Mets and playing way over their heads. Trying their so very best to crush the hearts of every single NY’er so they can hate us all even more than they do now. See get it!? They will try even harder to be the team who caused the collapse and choke every year. That is why it has to be made new. Sorry J-man you have to be sacrificed. Omar and his buddy the “Buzzard” have to go and the rest of the staff and coaches…HoJo you to Pally, back to the minors with Dan. Get Lee MAZ-a-Ma-Taz to manage the young guys and bring in Leo Mazzone from wherever he is banging his head these days. Jocko heard him on a TV broadcast as the Orioles gave him the boot and he is at home with his bags packed at the door waiting for a call.

See Jocko also talked it over with one of his old Pallys from the neighborhood…you may know the guy…Giuseppe Franco !!!! See G told Jocko, look, I don’t know much about this team, in fact I don’t own or know anything about it…but I can tell you the way it is now, who needs all this mess, because…it DOESN’T work, it DOESN’T work!!!!!
    ‘nough said.
    Jocko Johnson Over and Out!

  91. krispy644 says:

am I hearing correctly? “this is what makes this fun”? did Wright forget what happened last year? did he forget that the Mets franchise is now TAINTED!? did he forget that the Phillies dont see this as “fun” but more of an opportunity to repeat karma?
like honestly, what the heck is wrong with this club? seriously! RIDICULOUS!!!

if the Mets dont make the playoffs, IM THROUGH WITH THIS TEAM!!

  92. Jocko Johnson says:

You heard it correctly krispy, that is what Jocko heard. Even with the win last nite. No real good team is gonna let eight pitches beat them no matter how many runs they score. A wild card is a lose. They need to wipe this slate clean NOW…Freddy, Jeff HELLO!? Wake up or Citi Field will be empty, hey btw…did Citi pay you yet? MAybe they won’t have the $$$$. Good thing it wasn’t Lehmans pk, or AIG field, or WAMU stadium!!!!!
