The Game:
The Mets (83-67) continue their four-game series against the Nationals (58-93) tonight at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., starting at 7:10 pm.
The Lineup:
- SS Jose Reyes
- LF Daniel Murphy
- 3B David Wright
- 1B Carlos Delgado
- CF Carlos Beltran
- RF Ryan Church
- 2B Argenis Reyes
- C Brian Schneider
- P Brandon Knight
The Pitchers:
RHP Brandon Knight (0-0, 6.43 ERA) starts for the Mets. In his last start for the Mets on July 26 versus the Cardinals, Knight earned a no-decision, allowing four runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking our four over 5.0 IP. This is first career start versus the Nationals.
RHP Shairon Martis (0-2, 2.70 ERA) starts for the Nationals. Martis earned a loss in his last start versus the Marlins on September 12, allowing one runs on two hits over 5.0 IP. He has allowed two runs or less in each of his first two Major League starts. This is Martis first career start versus the Mets.
The Notes:
Jose Reyes is hitting .205 with 21 runs scored and a .281 OBP in his last 40 September games. The Mets are 20-20 during that span.
Carlos Delgado is batting .355 (11-for-31) with 2 2B, 4 HR and 8 RBI in his last right games. However, he is hitless in his last eight at-bats.
Joe Smith has not allowed a run in his last 17 appearances (12.1 IP).
The Nationals have 10 of their last 11 at Nationals Park.
Elijah Dukes is batting .302 with 12 HR and 39 RBI since May 24.

…enjoy, and as always, Let’s Go Mets…YA GOTTA BELIEVE!

Lets Go Mets!!I smell a win tonight. My prediction wasn’t true yesterday but oh well.
We can do it! It starts today!
These chokers better start winning from tonight on. Atlanta is not going to be easy and they’re coming up next. Man, I have a bad feeling about this. How can you not win 3 of 4 against the worst team in the NL. My God! Start hitting, start pitching!!!
you mean start hitting so the opposition can stop pitching :o
Do you know who’s pitching tonight? Brandon Knight! Yes sir, I have so much confidence with Knight taking the mound. Maybe he’ll pitch like the Cy Young candidate the Mets made ODALIS PEREZ look like last night. SHAME.
hey he made the olympic team for a reason! i just don’t know what that reason was….anyways, Lets Go Mets!!!
usually i don’t agree with Mike Francessa but he was right on the money about the Mets.
bat Beltran 2nd, he’ll get plenty of fastballs and let him get hot. He carried the Astros and he can carry the mets now as long as he’s given the oppurtunity.
on a side note: David Wright is turning into A-Rod and it bothers me. Now that he’s a dead pull hitter his stats are going up but he can’t hit good pitches. SHORTEN UP YOUR SWING AND GO TO RIGHT FIELD LIKE YOU DID IN 06!!!!!
Win or lose (preferably win). Just make it interesting. No more 4 hit shutouts.
well, here we go….had to take a night off, the negativity here was apalling, but back tonight….lets go mets
The only birthday present I want is a Mets win tonight.
happy birthday!
Thanks
Batting Beltran second might not be a bad idea, but personally, I like Murphy there. In fact, I think Murphy should start every day, no matter who’s on the hill. He sees a lot of pitches, he sprays line drives all over the yard, he just has a good idea up there. Keep Murph in left field batting second from here on out, I say. Maybe it’s just blind optimism here, but I believe the Mets are going to come out with guns blazing tonight and win 12-5. You heard it here first folks…..
This is the line up i was hoping for, all i want to do is have a nice bowl of cereal for dinner.sit on the couch and show no emotion when jose reyes pops up to short or slides into third with a triple in the first inning. Then in the ninth we will either be up by 2 or down by 7 and still show no emotion. So when i go to bed I will either sleep with a smile or mumble the F word and then my wife will say the mets must of lost.
Come on mets lets just do it for crying out loud
At least Met Killer Anderson Hernandez isn’t in the line up tonight
Yeah he killed the Mets with his .162 average on the team, and now he’s become Pete Rose.
It’s so funny b/c at the start of the season so many (myself included) thought that ruben gotay fit the perfect profile of a future Mets killer once they let him go. who knew we had the profile right, but the wrong guy pegged…
If Anderson Hernandez had ever approached doing what he’s doing now for the Mets, there would be no Argenis Reyes on the roster (and probably no Castillo either). I’m sure he won’t keep it up, but he sure has come up with some big hits against the Mets…..
OK, here we go! I’m actually not worried, but rather pumped for this game. The mets are going to kick arse tonight!
is murphy really batting 571 against lefties?
I like Murphy in the 2 hole and Church hitting 6th
we need to hit this kid early and stop with the 8 pitch innings letting these bums get in a groove…this is why I like the patient Murphy in the 2 hole.
Exactly…kid’s got to be playing every day from here on out..he’s one of the few grinders on this team. He just seems to give you a good AB every time up there.
Let’s Go Mets.
Hey!
Let’s win a game!
Let’s get our division back.
“We’ve got the teamwork…”
“To make the dream work….let’s go…let’s go Mets…Do it……do it…….do it!” Up next on WMET, “Chocolate Strawberry”
TO MAKE THE DREAM WORK!
This is it…the beginning of the rest of the season. This is where you will see the Mets just begin to light it up. Believe it BABY!!!
Let’s take back what is ours!!!
Yes, this is the lineup I like. Church in RBI opportunities, while Murphy is an ideal number two hitter. I think we’ve been missin’ a bit of that “youth.”
Yeah, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the team is struggling with no Murphy/Evans lately. They seemed to bring some youthful exuberance to the table. Plus they had nothing to do with “the collapse” last year….
YA GOTTA BELIEVE
Let’s do this thing! Can I get a hell yeah?
Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Schneider stinks!!! Good lineup minus Schneider. What’s up with Castro? Can he not go the whole game?
Let’s boycott Subway, I can’t stand those fat boy Ryan Howard commercials.
Not a big fan of the Chubster myself, but I’ve got to give His Royal Lardness his props. The guy has been clutch in September and despite a batting average that would make Dave Kingman proud most of the year, he’s putting up huge HR/RBI numbers…..
Play hard Mets… I went on some reverse the curse and reverse the hex web-sites… I hope I cured them lol Lets go Mets! We need a win tonight for us. A boost. Nothing else matters. Let’s just win this one so we know we can continue to do it…
I like this line up more tonight. I like Murph batting second and Church batting the line up deeper.
Sixth*
Win a game. It does wonders for morale boys.
We were 11-4 before this 1-4 skid so it can certainly we done… These last 12 games could be the best thing to happen to the Mets once they turn it on.
But how is Delgado hitting in his last left games?
Here we go….strap in.
“Anderson Hernandez has a chance to be something special” – Nats broadcast.
Apparently they didn’t look at his AAA stats this season….
Anyone ever see that dumb McDonalds commercial? lol Who would do that to their hair?
Delgado will have one of those impresive games to night….
can you feel it ??! LET´S GO METS
“Have Gun, Will Travel” reads the card of a man
a Knight without armor in a savage land
Brandon, Brandon, where do you roam?
Brandon, Brandon, far…far from home.
I was at Shea for Knight’s start against the Cards back in July. First inning he gave up 4 runs – nerves, I was hoping. Next 4 innings he shut them out – was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 5th. Didn’t get that as we were up by 1 at that point and Jerry brought in Muniz who have up 4 runs in the 6th….
Knight did not look that bad in that debut and that was against the Cards. This is the light hitting Nats. I’m thinking he might go 6 good. I can’t seem to find one analyst or fan that agrees with me though…
I was at that start too by the way (my only game at Shea despite over 20 years of being a fan). He settled into a groove after a bad first (which was littered with quite a few seeing-eye hits and a hard-hit ball by Pujols that Chavez got a horrible read on in right). He settled in nicely after that. Had some good AAA numbers and was picked for the Olympic team. He must have some skill. On the flipside, he’s a 32-year-old journeyman with a 9-plus career ERA in limited MLB games. But for some reason, I share your optimism tonight…somehow I think this will be the start of a turnaround.
Almost same here. Although it’s been 21 years – opening day in 1987.
I believe!! Lets do this los mets!!!
LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
One thing Manuel said during his interview with Francesca today on the FAN, which I thought was poignant, was that the Mets (these Mets) should feel fortunate to have the opportunity – another chance – so soon to erase the memory of last year. In that respect, as a professional athlete, I would think that you would bask in that opportunity; not choke.
And that’s why I don’t think we will choke this year. That is why i think we WILL WIN THE FREAKIN’ DIVISION!!!!!
LET’S GO METS!
JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE
Now THAT’S what I’m talking about, Jose !!
I think my reverse of the hex worked lol
Way to start Jose!!! And I picked to wear my Reyes jersey at home tonight!
a resounding go —- yourself from mr. reyes
Yea Jose!!!!
(I hope it did)
Thats how to start a game. Lets keep it up.
The spell is over… We can score!
Jose!!!!!!!!
Come on Danny
Screw the wildcard, I want the FREAKING DIVISION, oh doesn’t hurt that division winner plays dodgers, and wild card plays cubs who I don’t want NO PART OF in the first round.
come on dave
that’s all the mets will get all night
shut up lol why because of two k’s? we’ll score and win
well, not cuz of the 2 k’s, but because of the way things have gone the last 5 games…but maybe i’m wrong…hope so! 2-0 so far, keep it up guys, get some AFTER the first inning tonight!
just kidding…
good lol we’re both happy than… I want to see Beltran hit a homer now
Lets not get too ahead of ourselves… Two K’s isn’t good. We need to get some runners on now
what do you got to say now?
well we have to go through them next week to win that division…
Yea but hopefullyby Monday they have the division wrapped up.
^
DELGADO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DELGADO DEL GOT IT!!!!!!
Must have finally gotten some rum for jobu!
wow….I turn on the game and had already missed Reyes’ homer. I was pissed, but the second pitch I saw was Delgado’s homer. Sweet.
the god is back
Delgado got it!
who cares if Reyes hit a HR look ant the next 2 guys 2 strikeouts. Well yeah never mind that cause Delgado just went deep too.
That was a bomb.
I said something about delgado before… told ya!!
They’re Baaaaaaaaaaacccckk!
Yeah it was a bomb… We got a runner on. Now lets get something going
Nice
can they PLEASE turn this into a laugher? I have a paper to write and would love to be in a good frame of mind to do it.
It looks like their angry. I like it.
Gotta remind myself that Brandon Knight is pitching.
::DEEP BREATHS::
phils scored ughh… a howard rbi.. no biggie. lets do it here
wow Howards gonna win MVP with a .250 BA
It’ll be a shame if Pujols doesn’t win. Howard isn’t even OPS’ing over .900.
and 200+ K’s, what a joke
Mets fans, as a whole, are manic depressant
Ugh, ok, here comes Knight…Can we keep the lead for 1 inning?
good inning now… lets hope knight can give us a solid outing now. why couldnt pelfrey have pitched tonight? lol
got on the board…thats a good sign….hold em fellas…
remember, knight is pitching…and we have the NY Mets bullpen…so i’d say we need about, ohhhhhhh…13 more runs to be safe?
Today is my daughters 2nd birthday…the Mets are turning it around tonight!!!!!!!
Did you name her Josefina Carlita?
Nope Kadence Mae
That’s a nice name, but if the Mets win you might want to consider changing her name to aforementioned names.
Would consider if it gets them going!
good pitch to start it
man, brandon knight looks like michael young.
just stay ahead of these hitters and no first runner innings
there we go…
I feel like I’m sitting in the UR’s
Oh God, forgot about this camera angle. It’s like watching hockey for me – can never see the puck. This angle, I can never find the ball…..
who is that willie randolph look alike on the dugout?
nick evans
i don’t know. hopefully he doesnt talk about sipping some champagne like this time last year lol
Thanks a lot Jair Jurrjens. May your career turn the way of Andruw Jones post-steroid testing.
Braves are simply gonna lay down for the Phils so the Mets can’t have the divison.
The Cubs aren’t going to lay down for Milwaukee though lol The Phillies are only 6-9 against the Fish this year… Remember that
he knew it… good job brandon
Jair is prob gonna give a hit to Ruiz at this rate
speak of the devil
what did Kieth say about a junk ball thrower…a cunny..somthin g??!
great inning there
Nice inning for Knight.
I love it… thank you. i was waiting like 24 hours for this lol
BRANDON KNIGHT CY YOUNG
Turing it around? But I thought these guys were chokers! Not gamers like the Phillies. Not a clutch bone in their bodies!
Of course, if they go down 1-2-3 next inning, perhaps they’ll be chokers again, and we should trade the whole core. Break up the team!
But then they might score in the 4th, and then they’re heroes! How could we even think of losing hope.
Burble burble.
4-0 phils, you gotta be kidding me…
I hate them so much. Why won’t they lose?
And why do teams like the Braves and Nats seem to play us so tough, and then roll over and die for the Phillies?
marlins up 3-0 in first inning… they even hotter than philly
good for us, they’re playing the Astros. I don’t expect the Brewers to stop losing anytime soon, so the Wild Card would be nice to have as a cushion (but I still REALLY want them to win the division)
The Mets need 10 more runs before I start to feel comfortable.
4-0 Philly (Thanks alot Jair)
When’s the last time a team swept a season series from a division rival on the road?
at least they’re playing houston so they’ll only cancel each other out
I don’t even hate the phillies anymore….good for them, they know what they want and they’re going to take it.
You have to respect that.
no I don’t
hey get off off this site, if you’re gonna say that!!!!
nope
seriously, i think the braves throw these games on purpose
I hate the Braves they beat us even when we are not playing them
Well boys we have to win this one. The braves are not doing us any favors ( you think they are doing it on purpose?)
no the phillies r red hot lol who cares? aim for the division… im serious. the mets should aim as high as they can. keep it as close as they can. and guess what? they’ll be the wild card by like 5 games. or win the division.
Where are the Argenis lovers at??
same offense, but way better defense. Nough said.
Argenis is no better than Castillo. Just throwin that out there.
Castillo is no better than Argenis.
See how that works?
All I can say is he better be smooth as hell in the field. That is the last comment I will make on Awful Reyes.
yeah ill say the defense is better, but the offense is the same, if not worse
come on… get some damn runners on. get some fire in you mets
not for nothing, but we can’t really ignore the marlins anymore
they’re 5 back and riding a 6 game winning streak. Ending up behind them would be a bigger collapse than last year.
you’re right… we can’t. they’re two back of the astros though and 5 back of the wild card as the cardinals are too. they’d have to win every game to make it if the mets went .500. as long as the mets handle there business, they won’t need to worry about them. if they don’t, milwaukee, houston or someone else may bite quicker
Look at it this way… If you had to play two of he Cubs, Dodgers or Phillies – who would you play? I doubt anyone wants the Cubs, but they’ll probably get stuck playing them either way. Taking 3 out of 5 is easier than 4 out of 7.
And I’d love to take the Phillies over LA
See that’s me, I would much rather play the Cubs in the first round.
Yeah, I mean its the Cubs in the playoffs. Thats WHERE you want to play them.
Yup. Me too… Get the hard one out of the way. I’d like home field, but if we play the Cubs we won’t have it either way. It’s the following round that’d matter more… Only thing is the Cubs are cursed from going to the WS and winning it. Not winning the first round.
not me, not with their rotation.
I’d rather have them and the Phillies beat up on each other in the first round and then play the winner in the 7 game NLCS.
Plus, I want the Mets to win the division. It would shut up all the Phillies fans, who I’m sick of listening to.
Oh no doubt I would rather win the division. But given that in a box I would rather play the Cubs. Sanana vs Zambrano Pelfrey vs Harden Perez vs Dempster? Things could break our way as much as they could theirs.
C’mon Braves. You don’t roll over like this when you play the Mets. Show some damn life for once. Just another reason to hate Atlanta. Nice start for the Mets but lets see some consistency for an entire game from the offense.
LETS GO METS!!!!!
Yeah Atlanta is a piece of crap!
It makes no sense because Jurrjens is a good pitcher and Happ has barely any experience
what an awful call at first…jeez
He looked out… Come on. Turn two
He was out by a mile…Jesus!!! Can’t the ump get that simple call right??? WTF?!
oh no, it’s Ed Hochuli!
Ugh, BS call. That is called out 99.99% of the time.
Wright is damn good on the barehand.
Did the Mets only pack the black Uniforms for this trip? They usually like to change up the Uni after a loss. Break out the grays with the blue caps too! It’s the only Uni combo the Mets haven’t lost in this year (Delgado’s 9rbi day at Yankee stadium)
I wish I could pack up the black unis and toss them into the Atlantic Ocean. They should wear the Pinstripes at home, Greys on the road, blue hats with both, and occasionally use the all-white jerseys as an alternate home. Again, with the blue cap. I despise the black unis.
here’s dukes….he likes it inside kid
just get dukes out damn it
the number of people in business suits always kills me when they play in washington
well the stadium is pretty much only accessible by Metro. I know that if I could drive there, I’d probably go home from work first then drive (like I used to do for RFK), but now I just go straight from work to the game.*
*by now, I mean up until 2 weeks ago when I ended my internship and went back to school full time, but you get my point.
I’M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY PHILS ARE BACK AND ROLLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE OWN THIS DIVISION!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHOKE AGAIN LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how in the world are we choking, it’s this crappy team we have representing our town. But the Giants completely own your town so you shouldn’t have much to brag about, considering the phillies also haven’t won a world series since 1980. So whose the choker in the long run?
DON’T FEED THE TROLL
lol – sit down, Dukes.
nice k
thank you
the nats got a tough interleague schedule next season… rays, red sox and well the yankees don’t really count
Ok seriously guys lets please not let any of the Mets or Phillies trolls ruin this night. Anyone who responds to them will get more wrath than the troll themself.
Got it.
Agreed.
whoops didn’t see this one….but I agree with you
Real, just leave it at Phillies trolls okay.
you can’t fall behind. come on
BEND OVER LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TWO YEARS IN A ROW!!!!!
I ACTUALLY FEEL BAD FOR YOU PATHETIC LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!
he’s baaaaaack
And so are posters who egg it on. Leave him be.
see my above post…sorry!
I’m with you. I’m not gonna debate him.
go back under the banky… you got here too late. why do you stay here only until the mets win? lol or even win every other game? you’re only here when they don’t do well. you aren’t big enough to show up here in the PO’s
I don’t even think they are Phillies fans lol I think they’re just people with no lives who get off on starting other people. Maybe they’re on our side and we don’t even know it
Stop, do not ruin this blog. This is what he does and the entire blog becomes about him.
I like how you only come here when your team’s in first if you were so confident why weren’t you here last week?
He is a troll what do you expect? I expect you to know that if you feed him it will get bigger.
You own what? One division title in 14 years, 0 playoff wins since 1993. 1 world series title in 120 years. Here’s a clue that your city has a patent on choking…a fictional character last won any sort of championship that can be attributed to your city.
we need to score next inning… 2-0 is not safe
What happend to the magic number on the site?
1st bad pitch tonight….milledge has the worst fundamentals in baseball
Is it me because I watch too many games, or do the Mets get screwed by the umps more than any other team?
You knew Wash was scoring that run
maybe we just shouldn’t care anymore. i don’t know. it seems like the mets hitters cant hit (again) and now knight cant pitch… im serious, why couldnt have pelfrey thrown tonight. i hate this
umm…they hit 2 homers in the first inning. It’s now going into the 3rd. Calm down a bit
huh? the guy’s pitching a pretty great game
dude, are you serious? What are you in third grade?
Or Santana could have pitched on 3 days rest. This is the season they are playing for. You have to believe that a tired Santana would be better than a rested Knight.
are we watching the same game? the guy has been pitching very well so far
I’ll still take a tired Santana over Knight. This game is critical to stop Collapse Part 2.
I love Carlos Beltran
BELTRAN!!!!
nice
Nice, Beltran.
At least we kept it at one.
That looked like one of Reyes bonehead plays
ok good job… now score some… NOW!
Wow, stupid baserunning.
Mets – 2
Umps – 1
WHERE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER??????????
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
MAYBE THEY WILL PUT THAT CLOWN ON SNY AGAIN TONIGHT AND HE CANT EXPLAIN WHERE IT WENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
actually we both have the same magic # believe it or not cause we’re even in the loss column
Why are you responding to a troll? I just don’t get it?
any bets that the mets don’t score again tonight?
Can I still take that bet?
its nice to see we are catching some breaks tongiht…with Reyes struggling at hte plate it is very nice to see a walk for him
nice AB
please steal second
thank you jose
Hey, I would be proud if the team I rooted for lost more games in MLB history too.
still a hitters count.. come on danny base hit up the middle
EVEN J.A. HAPP IS PITCHING GREAT FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!
HOW DOES IT FEEL LOSERS?????????
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol, you remind me of my fat history teacher. He was a Phils fan too. Real tool, used to rub it in on us mets fans last september. Then came crying after his team got swept in the first round.
Yes, Murphy !!
DANNY BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!! MILLEDGE IS GOD AWFUL!!!!
Murphy is an every dayer. period.
HOW DOES MURPHY NOT PLAY EVERYDAY EVEN AGAINST LEFTIES…I SWEAR MANUELS DECISION TO NOT PLAY HIM LAST NITE MAY HAVE COST US A GAME
wow I was mad at first that Murph swung at ball 4
Murphy!!!!!
If Reyes goes into a tear the last 2 weeks somehow we’re def going to the post-season. And this September demons are Reyes’s to face more than anybody’s his .205 batting average really screwed us last year if he turns it around so can the mets.
Danny… You’re my favorite Met
I am so glad we don’t have Milledge anymore. The guy plays with his back practically touching the wall and he can’t get to that?
Finally a crushed fly ball that the other team doesn’t make a circus catch on.
Why isn’t Murphy starting every game
Murph dog
murphy should start every single game for the rest of the year he brings so much life to the team
how can you not love this kid?
DANIEL MURPHY??????
THIS GUY WILL BE OUT OF BASEBALL IN 2 YEARS!!!!!
EAT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll bet Pat Burrell will be done a lot faster, and what about Ryan Howard who keeps getting worse every season.
seriously just ignore this guy – he is not representative of a true phillies fan, and he seems to forget how tight of a race this is…
im finally having fun watching this… i say you need to score next inning and they do it. i ask jose to steal, he does it. i ask danny for a single and he gives me a triple. maybe i should ask for a wish while i still got a hot hand…. Win the NL East now
Milledge is so awful at centerfield.
Yes, we definitely need to keep Castillo at 2nd. Murphy should not even be considered for the position. Inexperience. Burble burble.
we can try it out next season though.
0 out.. i love it. come on david
just don’t strikeout/ pop out !
what about ground out to short?
come on sac fly
damn he hit that pretty hard
ughhh… this run has to come in. it’s a must.
Wright = Fail. God that guy blows. I am so sick of his flops.
I hope he’s having fun after failing there.
oh come on he hit it pretty hard if it found a hole you would be chanting MVP for him
EVERYONE IN PHILLY LAUGHS AT HOW PATHETIC DAVID WRIGHT IS!
YOU CAN GET HIM OUT IN ANY BIG SPOT!!!!!
BASH HOWARD ALL YOU WANT, HE IS CLUTCH!!!!!!
EAT IT LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU ARE ALL TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
your comments are crushing our spirits especially with the mets up 6-1
Ryan Howard can’t even fit in a normal sized car and Wright has a lot more potential. And you don’t see me calling Philly fans trash maybe you should go to your trashy city of Filthadelphia too bad you don’t have the money to live in New York.
You two get a room.
finally…breaks
Yes, that will do it!
Carlos! When you’re hot, the ball finds its way through, so let’s hope this is a sign of him getting hot again.
yes!! drove him in
yes!! drove him in
wright = balls with men in scoring position.
He hit the ball hard, and hit it at somebody. Just like yesterday. If you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you.
Again, all a hitter can do is hit the ball hard. The rest is out of his hands.
These same people were talking about how “unclutch” Beltran is.
Burble burble.
Wright can learn a lesson from Delgado
hit the ball on the ground toward one of the middle infielders?
yup…the next time he gets a grounder he should make sure it richochets off of a defenders glove….
sarcasm by the way
i didnt realize beltrans up to .280
That same Philly fan was saying the same thing about his team 6 days ago lol. Good to have you aboard, though, ChokeArtist, we really need the negative karma you will bring to your team
yes and he always come at the wrong times lol you know what i think? when he shows up, he’s our spark plug
come on do you really need ray ramirez for this lol
BELTRAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep ‘em coming!
GOODBYE – BELTRAN !!
BELTRAN RIPS IT
yes you do… he gave him the blessing to get a hr lol
murphy is the key to success with this team, idk how many people have said it, this kid just hits
oh man, that’s the section I was gonna sit in if I went tonight! Damn paper…
Ray Ramirez better rub everyone’s eyes before each at bat. Like Jeter used to do with Zimmer’s head.
I can picture everyone on the bench running over and saying “hey Ray, i think i got something in my eye”
BELTRAN!!!!
a couple more runs and i’ll feel a little more confident about this game
he got him with the ole dirt in the eye trick
I’m really starting to hate this Willie Harris guy
willie harris is the devil
MURPHY HAS TO PLAY EVERYDAY PERIOD….EVEN WHEN HE DOESNT GET HITS HE WORKS THE COUNT AND WORKS THE PITCHER EVERY AB
WooHoo!!!
lets score more… no need for this one to be a close game
Seriously?
Just bean Willie Harris next time he comes to bat.
Let him think twice about it.
haha that would be so funny:
play good defense against the Mets and you get one in your ear!
man….nice poke by a-rey…kid can’t catch a break
come on brandon… we need good pitching now… 6-7 innings would be nice
i think we got to throw out crappy starters everyday, the offense seems to score for crappy pitchers b/c they know its on them to win the game
we do
And they just keep saying baseball is a funny game.
that’s why I love all those people who were like “well, we automatically lost Wednesday b/c Knight is pitching”
With the way the Mets have played against other teams crappy pitchers, I think we should be well aware that pitching matchups only matter on paper.
He’s gone 2 innings so far.
I know, it’s always that way.
I honestly don’t think that 6 runs is going to win this game.
Even if Knight pitches well, a big if, the bullpen will make an appearance sooner or later.
i dont they know its crunch time especially when the phillies are up big
there’s still a long, long, long way to go
a hot streak may be brewing…
relax, let’s win this game first
yes… a very long way to go. a nice momentum shift
Don Sutton is saying that this Nat pitcher, plus two other clowns are going to be Maddux, Glavine, and Avery.
2 questions: 1) are you sure he doesn’t mean they’ll be like those 3 are NOW; 2) why Avery but not Smoltz? Is he saying one of them is gonna burn out in like 3 years?
Smoltz, right…
I think he’s stretching it a little bit. These Nats announcers are dull, but at least they aren’t a-holes like Grace.
they are pretty big homers, although not quite as bad as the radio guys down here.
It’s just funny to me the way they celebrate routine things like the Nats just won the NL East. I remember last time the Mets were in town, I don’t remember if it was the TV guys or the radio guys who were talking about how good of a player Milledge is because he ALMOST beat out a double play.
No Smoltz? tsk tsk
Sounds like Don Sutton is going to be the next Skip Caray.
alright Knight you have a 5 run cushion. Give us at least 7 giving up 2 more runs max and ill consider it a good outing.
Nice catch out there in right, Ryan.
well, church looks all better now. that’s great
not at the plate though
hey where did chokeartist go? lol, that guy is the biggest tool I have ever seen. I hope he goes and dies in a pit somewhere.
trolls = scum of the earth. I’d bet a decent amount of money he’s no older than 14, and probably has very few friends at school. Kinda sad, if you think about it.
By the way, I hate the Mets fan trolls over at Beerleaguer just as much.
seconded…
What I have learned over the years is the restraint of not responding to them. They take over the entire blog and this is too good of a blog for that to happen.
therealsince86 = voice of reason
agreed…sometimes it’s tough to not comment back, but it does seem like they feed off of the replies
I bet he’s some fat bald 35 year old who lives in his mom’s basement.
you say that like it’s a bad thing
4 k’s so far…nice
Lets just hope our bullpen does not blow this game…
or Knight for that matter he still has to give us a few more innings
Why? We have 106 guys in the pen. If he gets in trouble then I would pull him ASAP.
this guy needs to fall down a flight of stairs
I told you to peg the Sonofa…!
Knight is pitching his balls off.
hes ptiching for another start
I like video games where you kill things
ok, so far so good, now we just need about 6 more, literally, for this game to be safe…and no, i’m not kidding, we need about 6 more runs or it could be a rough night!
you realize that we’re all sitting here waiting for the last 2 innings, when the real game will start. right?
the life of a met fan…
like an NBA game, it only gets interesting at the end
the Braves defense is god awful
We need some more runs… Gotta be greedy here. no giving up leads like last week either
FINALLY !!!
Schneider breaks the Willie Harris curse !
Its about time
There we go Brian… Not Brandon bunt him over and Jose get him in
Willie Harris failed to make a big play against us?
That’s a sign, it’s our year! Or the apocalypse. Take your pick.
well if it’s not our year, that means it might be the Cubs year, which truly would be a sign of the apocalypse. So lets hope its the former…
By the way, nice to see Reyes having a good game
Anybody but the Cubs. I want them to go another 100 years without winning.
you’re just mean
I mean, I love the tradition of them not winning and all that, but you have to consider the human impact. I want them to win, and the Phillies to go 100 years without winning (again).
lehman brothers goes bankrupt…hurricanes all over the country….and willie harris drops a ball…the world is ending ladies and gentlemen
check one
check two
thatta boy, Jose
Reyes looking sharp.
now steal second
The games we expect to win – we lose. The games we don’t expect to have a chance (ala a Knight start), it’s looking pretty good.
Yep – baseball is a funny game. I’ve said it before: you just can’t play baseball on paper.
too bad millz is HORRIBLE out there, even the slow schneider takes second when he knows millz is trying to throw him out, lastings is just terrible in the outfield, hahahahaha
If brandon Knight pitches well the rest of the game, should we put him in Pedro’s slot? I hate to say it because I like Pedro, but I say yes.
I’m glad the Mets are showing life, but jesus, how pathetic is it that we’re celebrating the fact that the Mets have taken the lead in one game against the worst team in MLB.
I don’t see this team overtaking the Phillies now. The wild card is looking reasonable because the Brewers look like the 2007 Mets.
celebrate NOW. it beats losing. Been a fan since 1970s. I know what I’m talking about.
crap the Brewers are jumping out quick too.
this should be the lineup for now on, with a santana, pelfrey, perez, neise rotation
Broke up a DP… good job. Now David… drive him in.
Who wants to trade parts of the Big 3? Where is Furioso tonight?
Furioso is my homedawg!
mets aren’t losing…
I do. Wright for Halladay.
Check out Halladay’s away stats first.
Maybe he means Halladay the pitcher, not Holliday the terribly overrated guy with the rotten away stats….
Toronto has 57 games a year against Red Sox, Rays, Yankees. Who have beer league softball offensive stats.
Halladay would have a 1.00 ERA if he pitched all year against the Nats, Marlins, Braves. Seriously, c’mon.
To be fair, Holliday plays a lot of away games in LA, San Francisco, and San Diego. Those will hurt your stats.
My bad.
Or Wright for Carl Crawford.
Retarded
You have an interesting idea with Halladay, but this one is nutty.
Why? You don’t like Crawford? Or you don’t think the Rays would deal Crawford for our golden boy MVP?
There were rumors of the Rays dealing Crawford.
How is that “retarded”?
Are you insane?
Have you seen Crawford’s numbers? LOL are you serious?
Crawford is basically the EXACT same offensive player as Reyes, but he doesn’t walk as much.
Wright has so much more power, 40 2B and 30 HR every year and he is still so young.
Crawford is 27, Wright is 25.
Crawford is not even as good as Reyes offensively.
not to mention the defense…people forget that their beloved “clutchness” comes on both sides of the inning….
Wright is one of the top 5 3B in the game. Crawford is not even one of the top 15 in the OF.
Moving on, that’s just silly. Maybe Crawford and Kazmir LOL.
Crawford hit .315 last year, with 80 RBI, and 50 SB.
Yeah, that is pretty horrible.
Why are you using last year’s stats? Why not use this year or career averages? His current OBP is .315 and his career is .330. Hmmm. I wonder why?
Actually TRS, except for this year, if you take a look, the similarity between Reyes and Crawford’s stats is amazing. Jose steals and walks a bit more and I agree he is better defensively, but other than that, they are the same. When Crawford complained about Reyes getting so much more publicity than he did, I checked their stats and was shocked.
But I agree that Wright for Crawford is silly.
In TB instead of NY at an older age in a non-premium defensive position.
I agree with both points.
Hey, I am not saying to trade Jose, I am just saying that their offensive stats are shockingly similar.
I like Jose a LOT and think he will have 230 hit, .330 seasons with Gold Gloves soon.
you mean Holliday right?
I will have Pedro start and have Braden finish
Am I the only one who thinks this might not be enough?
SCORE MORE
What’s the exact opposite of confidence, because that’s what I feel every time Wright comes up with a runner in scoring position? It’s not doubt, it’s actual knowledge that he’s not gonna do anything good. And I love David Wright
def. not enuf, need at least 5 more for this game to be safe, and no, i’m not kidding at all…
brew crew bases loaded no out
Brewers kickin a$$. 4 up, 3 in.
3-0 milwaukee
lovin that 4-pitch walk to lead off the inning…
work hard brandon
man, the Braves are awful. I have gameday open in another tab, I keep checking back, it seems like every time the Phillies are up the inning takes like 20 minutes. Then I click over here, click back, and the Braves are already done 1-2-3.
yup… i love the reyes’s… keep working hard brandon
can we honestly just dump the NL west and just take the Mets, the Brewers, and the Phils that seems a lot more fair. The west is a complete joke.
haha I like that idea, but could you imagine the reaction from Dodgers fans?
You know, not only would I not trade them back Church straight up for Milledge, not only would I not trade Murphy for Milledge, I don’t even think I’d trade Evans for Milledge right now…
castillo?
I’d trade them Castillo straight up for the unattractive ball girl down the rightfield line who NEVER fields the ball cleanly.
haha….nice
the phillies ballgirl is hot though.
Obviously you have not seen her smile.
She’s a philly fan. Why would she smile?
you can’t walk guys… come on. we need to really score some next inning. he’s going to run up his pitch count with this
Every pitch Knight wastes is one more the pen has to throw…
you have to yank him if he keeps walking guys… this is beginning to get ridiculous. he works them full to walk them
This is ridiculous. The one thing you can’t do is walk guys and waste pitches…
And it begins
yup
they aren’t even hitting… can you just do your job brandon? this is the kind of stuff i can’t watch
this has all the makings of another 11-8 type game
god those walks are terrible
the leash has to be real short
one or two more base runners and he has to be out of here. its irresponsible not to.
Reyes doing enough for you guys today?
Wright’s 0-for-3! Trade him!
get him out of there
PLEASE take him out NOW!
Ok guys… This is where we realize is Jerry a smart manager? or an idiot?
Man, gets two outs and is just completely losing it.
here comes the grand slam from the great langerhans
Is he Williesque or does he take him out?
Come on, .233 – can you get this guy out here?
OK enough is enough. In ‘06 Willie woulda gotten Darren Oliver up (another unsung piece to that team)
omg i could just see espn and all the newspapers talking about the mets if they blow this lead
Starts out with the same pitch every time
minimized damage…that could have been real ugly
wait, I just saw a weak groundout with the bases loaded….which team was batting again?
Thank you… Now please score runs
Thank you god.
that was pure luck, its better to be lucky than good.
we need more runs!!!!!!!!
if that last inning shows us anything, it’s that the mets need at least 5 or 6 more runs, or it’s actually not just possible, but a VERY good chance that the mets lose this game. honestly, they should go about the rest of this game as if they are LOSING.
1 run up and you predict a Mets loss
3 runs up and you predict a Mets loss
6 runs up and you predict a Mets loss
At least you are predictable.
Does your psychiatrist know where you are?
are you saying he’s really Vince Young?
LOL
Actually, he predicts more like Vince McMahon
If we could just hold on to win and Johan starting Thursday always gives us a chance to win the Mets might be able to shake 07 away or aleast I hope so
God I love that AB from Gado
beltran steal the base
that’s why you steal the base
seriously though, they need to sit church. put the kids on the corners, no joke. he is simply horrible
do u guys pay attention to keiths stupid comments?
This was the game the Braves should have won. I wouldn’t mind seeing Lidge blow his first save of the year right now.
beltran is not a base stealer any more, and Church look overwhelmed.
Evans can’t really hit righties.
I’d rather try to get Church back into a groove than play Evans against righties.
Furthermore, Evans and Murphy in the corners scares me on defense. Church is really rather good out there.
If Knight gives up a hit take him out
Yeah ARam, keep it coming Cubbies.
Knight has major control issues.
Jerry is at the top step now
Knight is finished for the night.
JESUS STOP THROWING BALLS YOU ARE TERRIBLE
According to mlb gameday, Victorino got hit by a pitch, and then there’s an injury delay.
Now, I’m not saying I’m happy to hear of him getting hurt. I just figured I should announce it.
I’m happy to hear him getting hurt
I don’t want to SAY that I’m happy. Karma and all.
Remember guys and gals, Atlanta only win against the Mets, last night if that game was against us, they will had win it, well of course we don’t have Howard either.
Knight is exactly like Figueroa and Lawrence: a p–y nibbler
whoa: gamecast says Shane Victorino was HBP and now there’s an injury delay!
Couldn’t have happened to a bigger a-hole
for the record, I hope it’s not serious. But a sprained wrist would not upset me.
gotta win when you go up 7-1. Man, if they lose this, even the last few optomists will give on the season. Talk about 9/2007 part II.
So, just get some more runs please. This would be a eal bad game to have the offense pull their patented “get runs early and go to sleep” act.
Get through the 5th unscathed plese Knight. Not because I care if hegets the win, but every inning he pitches is that many less for the pen.
You really want to see 2-3 out of Figgy?
GET HIM OUT OF HERE
so, brandon knight is still pitching. how about that
GET HIM OUT NOW
are you kidding me? why the hell is this guy not being taken out??? come on jerry!!!
this is ridiculous
TAKE THIS GUY OUT NOW!!!!!
What is he waiting on? Figgy is not tired and is not essential for tomorrow. Go get him.
Jerry this is no time for messing around. He is losing it. Take him out before the game gets away
I hope Victorino is suffering in pain! Seriously I hate that guy
so, did the bullpen get in a bus accident today?
one could only hope
Jerry must have a Gut feeling
If I see a run come home this inning Knight has to be out of this game
huge k right there
Nice K. Now get a double play.
Big time K
long injury delay in Atlanta. Good stuff!
Not that I wish injury on anyone but we’ve had two go down this week. Maybe it’s just trying to even the playing field.
I have no problem wishing a nagging-type injury on a guy. Especially one who went helmet-to-helmet on Brian McCann a few months ago and gave him a concussion. No excuse for that.
nice K. Now get a DP and hit the showers.
O.K., O.K,…..one more.
one more knight…one more
i thought that was gone, exhale exhale breath breath
I rather see Victorino go 0 for ever then get hurt
seconded…i don’t ever root for injuries…the karma alone is killer
Houdini, thank you.
wow. He wasn’t pretty, but that was a big performance by Knight tonight. Now we just need the ‘pen to step it up.
anyone have the scoop on Victorino?
Who is hurt in Atlanta. Victorino got hit in the hand… hopefully no more clapping on home plate at Shea.
Brandon’s got guts.
great pitching, throw him out there to start the 6th maybe he can give you another
looks like knight came through…good thing nobody here manages the mets…
LOL – read above. I think myself and only one other poster who was at Shea for Knight’s first start had a good feeling about him.
ummm…we ALL manage the Mets. Aren’t you keeping up? :)
Maybe Jerry did have Gut feeling about Knight
Man, I can’t believe Knight got around that.
What’s with you guys wishing injuries on Philly players? Grow up.
BECAUSE WE HATE THE PHILLIES AND SHANE VICTORINO
yeah but this is Shane Victorino, the guy who ran out of the dugout clapping his hands like crazy after Dobbs hit a homer, ran as slow as he could to home plate after scoring the winning run of that extra inning game, and he deserves to get plunked for constantly crowding the plate.
OK. Knight did his job. Now can the pen handle the awsome bottom of the nats order?
Or better question, can the O come back and pad the lead?
Dukes looks like the biggest d-chebag. I hope he ends up in jail.
He’s done much douchier things then look like a thug.
i can’t believe jerry got another inning out of him. kudos
Err, now gameday is telling me that victorino singled up the middle.
victorino just got a hit, so…
how does a guy who was hit by a pitch get a hit? That makes no sense.
I’m not doubting you, I just looked it up, but that’s strange.
that is all heart from BKnight
good hit by argenis there
and he needs to steal second now
Steal second Argenis
At least the Cubs are on the board
Oh man Sheets is out for the Brewers in the 3rd.
really?
Wow – they’re really falling apart all way around.
hahaha yeah get owned. Not hoping for an injury or anything but this is good news
Well, it is an injury. It happened while he was batting.
Wow, the runner goes 1st to 3rd on a hit and run single tonight!
reyes made it to third on a hit and run, wow
seriously, i’m nervous, a 5 run lead in the 6th is not good. come on mets, we need at least 5 more!
I love when Schneider gets a hit, it’s like adding sprinkles to your ice cream.
Yup. Going on the pitch. Nice hit and run. Now what to do? Pinch hit? Bunt him over to second? Squeeze?
how the hell is Victorino still in the game, that was like a 5 minute injury delay?!?!
He needed time to finish crying
ughh come on marlon… big hit here
Victorino’s fine, he just caught a fly ball in center
nooooooooo
come on marlon drive in a run i dont care how u do it
Well that was real ugly but you got your wish.
yeah it was pretty ugly… it’s not the same marlon we had last year. as long as we keep tacking them on and we hold this lead we’re ok
how bout on a double play?
i dont know lol i wasn’t thinking about it at the time. i’ll take it over a strike out
lets go Marlon!
i’m glad we got the run, but a dp there come on
ughh… at least we scored. what are you gonna do though
good job brah!
Now only if the Braves could make a comeback it can be a good night
no shot. im peaking at the brew crew instead
Braves are phoning it in
oh well Not a big inning thanks to Marlon, but keep tacking on 1 run every inning and it will add up in the end!
Here comes the nightly adventure – 4 innings of our beloved BP….
I think I would have went one more with Knight. He could have got that double play as well as Marlon.
I’m thankful for everything Marlon Anderson’s done for us.
But really, this year, he’s making Julio Franco look like an effective pinch hitter.
i’m really, really scared…come on mets, we need MORE runs!
sheets got injured again? jeez man, death, taxes and a sheets injury…he’s got mike hampton written all over him
And this one occurred while he wasn’t even pitching.
yeah we’re not signing him next season
He’s the next Jeff D’Amico.
does anyone know why the brewers took sheets out after only 2 innings?
Possibly his groin again. I think it happened during an AB, I’m not sure though. I’m kinda following the game since its on ESPN.
ESPN guys just said “tightness in the right forearm”. They said they saw something during a swing.
it’s only fitting someone with the last name “sheets” would be …soft! speaking of which, is the brewers’ mark difelice (now pitching) related to the feisty catcher?
bed sheets are soft
Anderson has become totally useless
big k there, 11 more outs to go
So how many million do you think this is costing Sheets?
Really – did you just hear the run down by the booth on who all contributed to this team this year with those that had to step up due to injuries? I mean man, it’s really a wonder we’re in this race.
And kudos to the likes of Tatis, Stokes, Knight, Evans, Murphy, Ayala, etc. etc.
pretty amazing isn’t it?
dont forget good ole easley. he won a number of games for us. i love the guy, such a consummate pro
Definitely Damion….
Where was Rincon all year? The Mexican League. He wouldn’t have been a huge help?
rincon didnt make the team out of spring training so instead of going to New Orleans he was loaned out to the mexican league which is technically a AAA league. The Mets couldnt bring him back until the Mexican League was over
All so we could keep Schoenewaste.
screw bonifacio
nice k…little known fact, ricardo rincon pitched the 10th inning of a 10 inning no hitter against the astros in 1997. fransisco cordova had 9 innings of shutout ball
im intrigued by rincon. i’d like to see him get some more appearences down the stretch. hes pitched well
only against lefties though
Next….
Hm, maybe that’s why Rincon was lifted after 2 batters the other night.
wow Ricon is a pure lefty lefty guy he can’t take down righties at all
come on! damnit we need a lot more runs.
I feel like our entire BP should be on the NEXT bus.
throw a strike fatty!!!
and, the BP give back parade starts.
At lest if they get out of th e6th and only give up 1 run per inning, the Mets still win!
although quick poll, how many people feel that the 8 runs isn’t going to be enough?
And with a big lead like this, it is ridiculous if they have to use more than 1 RP per inning, especially when you start in the 6th.
oh, niced PB Biran.
an 8 run lead would be enough but not an 8-3 lead as far as im concerned. Not laugher by any sort of the imagination
wow, awesome.
What ?? – wow.
Nice help from the ex Yankee thank you
robinson cano taught him that
wow….that was one of the most retarded things i have ever seen
Thanks former attorney general.
lol, thats why he quit
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Don’t know if I have ever seen that before.
Wow.
Anyone ever notice that bad teams play badly?
thanks goodness the nats are horrible! imagine if we are playing the phils now, and we’re all scared that we can’t hang on to a 5 run lead with the nats…boy is it gonna be a long couple of weeks.
the most bonehead play of the year. gary gary gary
huge break there, the blowpen was beginning to do its thing…
blowpen…I like that.
LOL!
wow, a nice thank you to the dope that just saved Rincon from more damage.
Casey Kotchman tonight: 2-3
Rest of the Braves: 2-20
I hate them
were not catching the Phillies regardless of how we play.
its the wildcard we need to be most concerned with
that’s ridiculous. The Phillies have been so inconsistent, you really expect them to stay this hot for the next week and a half?
I started to laugh, then realized we’ve already lost twice to this team and been bumped from first.
Cna the Braves maybe pretend to be trying? Then again they didn’t touch our starters either – they basically won 2 of 3 games by showing up for two innings all weekend.
good point
hey guys, what was the retarted play you guys were talking about? wasn’t watching the game so someone fill me in please
2 outs, Bonifacio was on 2nd, Rincon was all over the place against a lefty and was gonna be pulled if he put him on base. Rincon throws ball 4, but the guy took off on a delayed steal and Schneider threw him out at 3rd, ending the inning and saving the bullpen an out.
Alberto Gonzalez tried stealing 3rd with 2 outs on ball 4
right, not Bonifacio, he had scored already. My bad
Crap. Dukes, no less.
here we go…
Brian Stokes remember that he’s Brian Stokes.
noooooo.
WHY every game has to be a tight one come on already
What is the deal with the bullpen after they get 2 outs.
stokes is starting to look more like the guy who put up a 7 era last year …sigh
This is crazy
what the hell, I hate this crazy mo-fo! He should be in jail not screwing our season!!!
Oh god, Aaron Heilman. Why?
I hope he is just up as some kind of sick decoy.
Now the parade of sub .250 hitters will kill us.
HEILMAN IS UP ?????
I don’t think I’ve got enough meds to watch this…lol.
this bullpen can’t get an out without giving up a couple of runs.
ugh here come the nats again. Nice job blowpen!
What happens to Al Reyes ? Why won’t Jerry even give him a chance
regardless of how this game goes, even if the mets win, and they probably won’t, if by some miracle the mets make it to the post season, and they probably won’t, they will be destroyed by whoever they play. this pitching staff/pen cannot hold a lead to save their lives. no matter what happens, the other team is still in the game. what a shame, too bad only ONE person is to blame for this…OMAR!
Can you see our BP facing Manny in the playoffs?????
I just threw up in my mouth! it would be just silly, not only would WE crap our pants, whoever was on the mound for the mets would also crap his pants…
yeah, sorry, didnt see ur post. just said pretty much the same thing below…
SIGN K-ROD!!SIGN K-ROD!!SIGN K-ROD!!SIGN K-ROD!!
SIGN K-ROD!!
SIGN K-ROD!!
SIGN K-ROD!!
K rod wouldn’t help here. He doesn’t go 3 innings
get Fuentes as the set up man. Spend the money get it done, I want a championship!
Don’t look now but Mr Happy is warming up
OH boy. Gotta love this BP. I fully expect the mets to now lose this game.
And forget more runs. The O is going to press like crazy and not do anything.
How can this pen actually blow gamees like this? Un freaking believable.
They are going to lose this F(*&ing game. F this team
hahaha! heilman sighting! honestly guys, i want this team to win as bad as anyone here, but who really thinks we can be a real contender -even if we do make the playoffs- with manuel playing his stupid mix-and-match and running out these inept pitchers night after night?
you CANNOT blame this on Manuel. What the heck do you want him to do, send Wright out there to pitch?
im not blaming him TODAY, did nothing wrong yet. but absolutely hate the way he’s managed the pen – broke everybody’s confidence
this bullpen is the biggest piece of crap since Bob Saget!
I prefer the worst thing since smooth jazz.
Lets score some more please
Well, that’s a novelty. Nice K Stokes.
nice k…still got the lead…cmon offense tack on
Think it might be time for me to go clear my head and step away from the notebook and tv.
Never been so nervous with a .248 hitter up.
3 run lead, 2 innings to go.
Dang. The Mets are doomed.
Stokes is a thrower, not a pitcher, you can throw 100 miles/h, and if it is down the middle is going to get hit real hard, and his ball doesn’t move at all, straight as an arrow.
i will feel a lot better if they bat around this inning…twice. they came out all fired up knocking the ball all over the place and now?
shame that with a 3 run lead and 2 innings to go, we are all basically having the mindset that mets are losing. what a shame
the weight of evidence says we should be very concerned.
we need that one
Alright Carlos!
He has a chance to hit 30 homers this year. Who’da thunk it.
Thank you Beltran
Nice, Carlos !!
BELTRAN!!!! NOT DONE YET CHICKEN LITTLES!!!
Boom!!!
thank God, we needed that BAD! unfortunately we still need a few more, come on mets!
yeah Beltran!
Yeah Carlos, that homer should still be completely unnecessary.
four now
From both sides of the plate baby. Way to tack on runs. When we don’t we lose– not that its the offense’s fault, but that’s just the way it’s been
anyone else thinking 30 home run season for Beltran? How bout 40 for Delgado? More importantly we need to make the playoffs
Probably not likely. They would have to be insanely hot for the last week and a half here.
sounds good to me
Well, I mean I would love if they both reach those marks, but it just doesn’t seem like it will happen.
But, hey, if they keep hitting like they both did tonight then anything is possible.
if church can somehow find his swing…
wow, church is just horrible! he has got to be sat down
i walk a way for a few minutes when it was 8-2 and now it’s 9-5. but it’s the 8th inning. it’s time to close out this game…
This Church should be stting on the bench
Not if you want him to get his swing back. He needs to play. Unless you want to write him off until next year.
Still not enough. does anybody really believe these guys can get 6 outs with only 3 allowed? Score 5 more.
Our Heinous Reyes??
Come on …. Six outs. We blamed the offense last night. Now they do there job. The bullpen has to do there’s now.
I don’t know about Beltran, but Delgado could hit 40, he has 36 now and the way he does it is by hitting them in bunches.
noone should say anything negative about church b/c without him carrying this team in april and may we would have been to far back like detroit to do anything in the division.
Some have short memories.
most….
Look who it is Mr Happy
throw it better aaron
No. No. No.
yank him right now. please. please be a good manager
here we go
And here we go!!!
Time to for me to go outside.
Why is Heilman pitching this has blown game written all over it!
This is too much. It’s been a miserable 4 out of 5 days. If this team does not win this game, it shows they have no heart. I am sorry. I have to conclude that. The bullpen can not let us down in this one. This game would be a turning point or a horrible decline.
no heart? they’ve scored 9. the bullpen is horrible. heart has nothing to do with anything
The turning point was when Manuel brought in Schoenweiss on Saturday when Santana had a 2-0 lead. Shea went dead with dread. After the loss, 40,000 exited…
Short leash, Jerry, short leash. If Aaron puts one more person on base, bring the hook.
How are we supposed to respect Jerry Manuel? I know he’s not the worse coach, but how do you use him here? How do you leave him in?
i hate heilman, please get him out of the game
Oh, Heilman!
Boy, we’ve missed you. Smart choice, JMan; this is the reliever I wanna see when your Mets desperately need to win
they’re squeezing him a bit
TAKE HIM OUT NOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!
GET HIM OUT OF THERE AND DON’T EVER USE HIM AGAIN!!!!
I HATE THIS GUY
NEXT.
dang….
Remember that 30-3 game last year between the Rangers and the Orioles? I wouldn’t have trusted Heilman with THAT lead. Get him off this team.
This team has no heart. No brains. How is this happening? Why is Heilman in here?
ok, i rarely speak ill of individual players and i feel bad for the guy, but he’s awful. he’s shot. get him out of there and cut him tomorrow. this is not going to work out
HEILMAN SHOULD BE UNEMPLOYED AND LIVING IN A SHACK. HE HAS NO TALENT, NO GUT, NO BALLS. ALL HE CAN DO IS MAKE PHILLY FANS HAPPY!!!!!!!
Seriously, I don’t see how’s it’s commendable playing injured if you can’t get out a fcking soul. Looper helped cost the Mets a season doing that bullsht and now Heilman may match him.
I say it again, no Mets pitcher can get an out without giving up a least a run or two, they should be a shame of themself.
cool. Heilman in to blow the game. 1st 2 guys on, who would have expect?
Get him out for SMith now. it might be the only chance.I can’t believe they are blowing again. Can they even have 1 easy inning? Just 1?
At this point, they should just send him home.
Mommy… What happens if I touch the oven? Mommy: You get hurt. Ask it like three more times.
This is Heilman… If you use him? Ouch. If you use him? Ouch.
Someone should whisper the wrong retardation in Jerry’s ear like Borat in his ear when he puts him in next time lol
You know, it’s simply amazing. You never ever feel safe with this team because you just know this bullpen can’t get it done. I wonder how many Mets fans have developed ulcers over the last few seasons with this group…..
They better not lose this game
WTF…you’ve got to be kidding me. How many times does this guy need to dissappoint before you kick him to the curb. Unreal Jerry. Unreal!!!
I just told my wife I am taking her to Fleming’s Steakhouse to celebrate the day Heilman is traded. I hate him that much.
nice
this is manuel’s fault. You can sense the game is going to be close…and its an important game…why do you pitch Heilman?? I just dont get jerry sometimes. that is NOT a spot for Heilman.
NOW SHOWINCRAP. MANUEL HAS TO BE KIDDING ME!
Jesus man I cant believe that this can happen over and over again
So where’s all the people who commended the bullpen last night? Why does the bullpen produce when they don’t have to? And why don’t the hitters hit when they need to?
Heart. Maybe they don’t got it. Maybe they do. If they win, it’ll show.
This has nothing to do with heart and everything to do with a bad BP.
No heart is when you don’t even try. The offense is there tonight. Knight did his best for 5, kept us in the game. Enter the BP who you know desperately wants to get it done and just can’t.
Y is he in there in the first place. We got a dozen games left. No playoff spot is a sure thing. So y do you have one of the worst (if not the worst) relief pitcher we have down the stretch.
I rather see someone whose been effective and overused. this is ridiculous!
if they lose this game i am just done. this is simply comical. between plays being made / not made, bad luck, managerial decisions this has to a big joke. i just can’t take this anymore. it seems everything is against them
Ball one. Suprise?
Listen boys, this game is over. It’s practically a tie game. Please prove me other wise.
Heimlich + Schoesh%t–now that’s a one-two punch.
Hey, at least this time JMan didn’t let Happy stay in till he actually presided over his own run crossing the plate.
story of the season (and why the pen is killed them so many times)
Brining in Schoe to replace Heilmann. Yuck.
Please, just get a DP and let the run score and get this over with!
can any memeber the of the pen get ahead on any batter?
This is Pathetic!
I’m done rooting for this Bull(S$%)Pen!!
Please get him out Show… Come on damn it
nice k there
Thank you very much… Now a double play wouldn’t be bad
CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Filthies are just cruising along
Good play Ryan. Big out.
Met bullpen=Maginot Line
ok, that i like
not to get all history nerdy here, but the Maginot Line was actually very well designed, the French just ran out of money and decided not to finish it, so the Germans merely went around it.
This bullpen was NOT well designed.
My point was that it was easily circumvented.
Thing is Schoeneweis is just as big of loser as Heilman, he just doesn’t get as many opportunities because he’s a “specialist”
Well a least Church save a run or two
god, here comes our own personal murder’s row
One more out now. Luis? lol Oh no
O good Slappy is coming thats great I wanted to see him again
Donde esta Joe Smith, el savior?
Give the save to Beltran tonite. He earned it.
Is the game over?
I hope Church is ok he did’nt look to good after that play
so wait, is parnell now officially the closer?
ooooh u meant luis castillo. i thought ayala was coming in… sorry, am listening to wfan
I LOVE OUR OUTFIELDERS!!!!!!!!!!
THANK GOD for BELTRAN !
Best center fielder in the league.
way to clean up Heilmann’s crappy mess!
the slapster is back!
I love Beltran! Thank you… Score some now
wheeewwww!!!!!!!! that was close.
anyone have a heart attack?
right here
not sure, but i just got up from the floor
Anyone who wants to trade Beltran is absolutely insane. This guy IS the best CF in the game.
beltran, wright and reyes…for crawford
Throw in Johnny Gomes and Rocco and you have a deal.
done and done
Cindy Crawford?
old?…check
best years behind her?…check
weird mole on her face?…check
sounds like a met!
Stache,
Nicely done but you forgot:
Looks good in a dress
never have wanted to trade him, just always expected more of him, along the lines of what he’s been giving us the past 5/6 weeks or so
Now does Jerry learn not to use Aaron again? Usually he waits a week or so. Hopefully it’ll be too late for him to be dumb again.
We need to score some. Who’s to close? Ayala? Stokes? Feliciano?
never have wanted to trade him, just always expected more of him, along the lines of what he’s been giving us the 5/6 weeks or so
there ya go. mets are gonna win this one, but with this pen, the future remains dim
With four runs lead in the eight we should feel relax, right? Them why I don’t feel that way, they have to get over this bump and retire #17 right now.
why crapillo, the mets gain NOTHING with him in. even in a double switch, the pitcher is better and then a. reyes gets to stay in and he is a better defensive player. i just don’t get it.
nice play carlos! gold glove this season, yes?
i think he’s perenial at this point…
And that my friends is why you don’t even consider trading Beltran. Bunch of morons on this site suggesting such, unbelievable. Oh yeah, don’g forget about his 2 bombs either!
tottally agree!!
Yeah, it’s gonna take ten hurlers to beat F-in Walgreen’s.
Joe Smith is the one fairly consistent guy we have these days. Why not let him go out for the ninth?!
BTW, why hasn’t HeilFck been sent down? Why!
sent down where? the only place they could send him now is the bottom of the east river
WoW did slappy just walk and just think we have him for another 3 yrs
come on slappy you bag of crap!
Nice Slappy. Anyone else like the idea of Reyes hitting behind a semi-functional Castillo?
Yup, bat Castillo 9th.
If they do make the playoffs can you imagine the conversation between Omar and Jerry on who gets to be on the playoff roster from the bullpen?? I couldn’t even argue with them if they just put everyones name in a hat and just pulled out 7 or 8 names.
No Heilman. That’s all that matters.
I feel the same way lol
It’ll be the first post season team in history that carries more BP arms than anything else. especially since the position players are going down like flies.
Score this run please…
Daniel looking good. I’ll take 2 hits a night from him since he’s likely to see plenty of playing time.
No DP
s
lucky that throw was errant there…castillo was a dead duck
david just do your job
Whadduya say here Davey
Squirming in our seats?? We’re WAY past squirming, Gary…..
Ok HoJo has to take Wright to the back shed already
Anyone else think Heilman will be seen again unless its in mop up duty? I just don’t see how Manuel can have any confidence in him again this season, especially if he’s hurt and thats what causing his ineffectiveness. I just think Aaron needs a change of scenery to a market thats not as big as New York. He never backed down from his inability to get it done though so I give him credit.
I am going to say something I never thought I would say. Luis Castillo should be the starting 2B. A. Reyes is not a hitting threat at all and brings a solid glove yet with no track record. Castillo does not have the glove Reyes has, but has a track record and has been on winning teams before. I have to say that Castillo’s chances of hitting are better than Reyes and thats what this team needs more than anything right now…….I am shocked at myself right now for this thought but its how I feel. Anyone else? I still hate Castillo and hope he’s gone sooner than later.
I agree. Simply put, Argenis Reyes makes Rey Ordonez look like Albert Pujols.
i disagree, on the simple fact that castillo does NOT have better chances of getting hits than a. reyes. honestly, he is an automatic out or walk, usually out.
i pray for damion to find some kind of shaman/witch doctor that will heal him
“solid glove”
True; Argenis has a solid glove
“no track record”
Irrelevant
“Castillo doesn’t have as good a glove”
True; his glove is terrible.
“But he has a track record”
Irrelevant
“And he has been on winning teams”
Irrelevant
He can draw the occasional walk. This is what makes him better than Reyes at the plate.
Argenis has to be used as a defensive replacement from about the 7th inning on. You can’t give him 4-5 plate appearances per game.
Another great game from David Wright.
Wright didn’t get the run in? No way!
that was a very sad swing. it’s hard to believe he’s ”confident.” that wasn’t even a swing
wow, arod jr. is just awful!
Shall we see Al Reyes?
Wright MVP, I hope that run that he left on base does not come back to hunt us .
blew a very important inning there…
That run will hurt the Mets. It could be the difference for all we know. And David Wright deserves some legitimate blame. We’re talking about a little fly ball. A dribbler. Something. Not a K.
if wright wasnt playing such outstanding defense (and he is) I’d say bench him. he really needs something to shake him up. but I still think you can move him out of that damm 3-hole!
it won’t happen just like heilman stop pitching won’t. this is an egocentric club. i don’t even think david would have a problem with it. just jerry’s not going to do it because he’s stubborn or doesn’t want to field questiongs from the media
ha! just when i mention his outstanding defense…
Who’s coming in?
Let’s hope he’s on the up side of his curve this weekend in Atlanta. The guy plays in streaks.. Great 3-4 games. Followed by 3-4 bad games.
1-2-3 Please I mean PLEASE
Leaving in Smith is okay, I guess. As long as he gets it done.
Yeah, HE IS SO CLUTCH
Wow.
Wright is became more like ARod, hitting 2 homers and driving 5 runs in blow out games, and now his mind is going, his defense will suffer.
Yeah, well don’t suggest trading him or people will say you’re an idiot.
It looked like he was going to cry. Maunel should of pulled him from the game right there. His head it not in it. Bench him for Thursday’s game.
Defense? Right? First error in 37 games? Yank him. I can’t believe it. This is pure BS. We needed that so bad.
He let his poor hitting affect his fielding.
Wow David, talk about taking your offense with you in the field
quit baseball dwright, please
i love wright and i am not a basher, but how can anyone here deny that he generally has not gotten in done in big spots? yes, he has had “big hits” or whatever you want to call it, but come on. all season long with men on he has truly struggled, looking simply lost. for man with all the physical talent in the world, i hope he can figure it out upstairs, if not for this season for the rest of his career or the arod tag will never leave him
Just do it Joe. Get a big out here.
that said, now it is with him in the field
Wow David. Way to help out your pitcher there. I think we should bench him just forone game. Put things into perspective and maybe it will help him relax.
Here we go
pitching behind… bs… this game may be over
They’re blowing this game.
You people calling for Wright to be benched…..Just exactly what kind of shuffling around do you propose to replace him? We’re down Easley and Tatis, in case you hadn’t heard.
It’s just frustration because we need him and he’s not there. What can we do? Daniel Murphy at 3B? That’s not going to happen. Taking him out of the 3 hole would be a start though.
The definition of irresponsibility. Heartless. I swear.
LOL, the guy has not comitted an error in 37 games and now he is heartless.
Agreed. Some on here have already jumped off that ledge.
This has to be the worst bullpen I’ve ever seen, for any team
I’d be happy with Parnell as our closer. Everyone else is gasoline on this fire.
Here we go can’t these bums get anyone out
hmmmm….an error and a walk aren’t the best ways to start the 9th….can’t ever be easy, can it?
Is this not funny? Come on you know it’s comical.
This game feels strange. It’s almost as if the baseball gods want them to lose like they have in the past but they seem to be fighting back just enough.
Feliciano? Both of the guys on score for sure. can the next guy hold them to 3?
Un. Be. Lieve. Able.
how can a team try so hard not to lose a game? how can you walk a man there?
How many pitchers will we need to finish the freaking game tonight?
You can thanks DW for this one, he needs to be move out the third hole, he is hurting this team too many times, with men on base, specially with a man on third and less than two out.
When the pen coughs up this game David Wright better get RAKED over the coals by the press.
Where is Parnell? Does Manual have Willie “veterans only” disease?
I refuse to watch it. I’m turning it off.
Wow, a double dip from DW. Choke on getting an insurance ru nin, then make a retro 9/07 throwing error to help the Nats come back.
no team can possibly blow another 4 run lead in the 9th, could they? Have the Mets set a record for most big 9th inning leads blown yet?
i would have kept smith in there. feliciano will walk his first batter on 4 straight balls, then what? i can’t believe this team is going to blow it yet again. and that last inning would have been huge for us, but arod jr. can’t even get a measly pop fly for a sac. run. unbelievable.
NO EXIT. This is Sartre’s hell…
I got his nausea…
That novel would have been better if he had Davey Johnson’s Tums…
i am out, hope they somehow manage not to lose.
It’s Groundhog day AGAIN. The same thing OVER and OVER again.
I just bit off a finger
I’ll take that
and NOW, if you’ll excuse me, I can blame the horrendous manuel. leaving smith in was an awful move. he’s been god, yes, but even too good for what he is–totally due for a bad outing. and the out he got in the 8th wasnt exactly good pitching: 400 foot bomb saved by a great defensive play….
he got a ground ball to 3rd. The walk was bad, but maybe with 1 out nobody on he pitches Dukes differently. Can’t blame Smith OR Manuel for that.
thank god for the Carlos’s
I cannot believe Delgado stopped that ball…
Yup. That’s Delgado NOT TRYING.
>>sarcasm>>
Wow Delgado for Gold Glove,
I’m beginning to think more and more the Mets should just let Ollie go and use the money to sign KRod
One more out Feliciano
OK, there’s 2 outs. Here’s where the problems begin.
I’ll not leave Feliciano here
We need Ollie. We have enough more for Ollie and K-Rod. We have 30.65MM coming off the books after accumulating Johan’s pay hike.
You’re thinking like a fan, not like the Wilpons
after this game the wilpons might be the only fans
Look at the bucks they spent on Johan, Beltran, Pedro, Delgado and others. They’ll give it to him. I’m not expecting Sabathia. I’m expecting our guys to be retained. I just don’t think someone’s going to give him a ridiculous contract because of his question mark status. Plus his numbers could look better if it weren’t for the bullpen.
One more strike NOW!
why jerry
I don’t even know what to say here anymore….
Can SOMEONE get this last out????
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like I said, there’s 2 outs. This is when the floodgates open.
no keith…we are not alright at home…come on mets…one more out
This game is over. Two outs? Two strikes?
David Wright is to blame. He K’s and makes the game costing error. I am so sick of him even though he’s a good player.
The game costing error? Have you not seen how many runs the BP gave up here tonight????
I guess Wright has decided he can’t kill the team enough with his limp bat, he now has to tack on unearned runs too.
Seriously, David talks a good game, but he’s coming up small in these big spots all too often…
Odds on a HR here?
We Met fans are a rare breed.
Seriously, I hope the Nats hit a homer here
dude you should never want to lose.
I am Wright thinks is EXCITING. DRod
Gary and Keith are getting on my nerves already
Seriously – did you hear Keith Ho-ho-ho’ing when Nieves got that hit? SHUT UP Keith, This is NOT FUN!
This is great, you could not script these games any better in hollywood.
wow, tying run comes to bat. Who would have thunk it?
And it seemed like Pedro F was having his first good outing in months. Throwing strikes, all that good stuff. He was even in line for a save. But no…
I am truly shocked at the way the bullpen is performing!
Rolaid anyone? A shot or twelve of jack?
screw shots chug the bottle
Glad the guys in the booth can get a good laugh out of this
I told you so, it was time to go, he did his job and it was time for a nightie to coming and pitch to Nieves.
I would NOT bring in Ayala, his specialty is the gopherball, which is the only thing that will lose this game.
I’d rather leave Feliciano in there, that last hit was a cheapo hit on a desperation swing.
Let Wright pitch
i cannot wait until the end of thursday. i cant stand the nats at all. i hate them
one out PLEASE
Odds that a .148 hitter gets a huge hit? 2 to 1?
Make that a double, bartender.
Oh great this guy is hitting 148 with no home runs. Yeah that makes me feel secure. If there’s ever a time for your first, why not against the human gasoline cans
If they tie the game, they lose the game. The game may be over. If it is over, I don’t know what I can say. I don’t know if I should care. But I will tell you I probably will care, but expect less. And all of my confidence in this team will be destroyed. You can’t get over this lost + the other two. It’s over if they lose.
Win or lose, it’s a joke that they need to use 8, count them, 8 freaken pitchers to close out the lowly Nats. How many will they need against a really good team? LOL
To be fair, this was Brandon Knight starting. The bullpen had to come into action in the 6th inning. With Johan going tomorrow, hopefully the bullpen won’t be needed as early.
Good point. We definitely need at least 8 from Johan Tomorrow.
DWright in the post-game: “I’m having even MORE fun now!”
oh boy. a PH hitting .083. You just know he jacks one…
I don’t even get upset anymore, I’m just so over this
the good thing about Ayala that he is fast, you don’t have too much drama here
Good point. He doesn’t monkey around and get into a lot of deep counts. He makes you earn it.
You know if Harris gets up, the Nats win.
come on Ayala, walk the .149 hitter
you win or lose fast
Go after this guy he is a 100 hitter
METS WIN!
I dont’ know how much more I can take
Great job Mets, you should all be very proud of yourselves you beat the fcking Nationals
and it only took 8 pitchers, and 9 runs wow!!!!!!
LOL….exactly….Time to mail it in tomorrow, they got their one win.
a wins a win
They did it. It’s a miracle!
That was easy. Only 11 more games to go.
WILD CARD MAGIC NUMBER = 11!
sigh of relief. Now lets give Santana some support tomorrow and hope the Braves actually show up to play.
I KNEW IT ALL ALONG!! haha
Yippie, yippie. I feel like a kid waking up with snow on the ground.
…in nuclear winter.
DONE AND DONE!!!!!!!!!!1 HAVE A LITTLE FAITH METS FANS!!!!!!!!
awful win…im honestly not even that happy.
finally.
how can Knight, with iffy control, keep them to 2 runs in 5 innings, but a cast ofthousands from the pen gives up 5 in 4 innings?
Great comment about the difference between Knight and the pen. I kept hoping that Jerry would take Knight out but knew there was NOTHING to replace him with.
Tonight would have been a good time to try parnell again or see what Reyes has (in the 6TH or 7TH) I am pretty sure Smith could have closed out the ninth without the error
Between the gut wrenching losses and the pins and needles wins I don’t know how much more my heart can take
Thank you Mets for giving me such a surprise birthday present. A heart pounding win till the last out.
How is this possible?
Why is every game an ulcer-causing event?
When will we win a game in which I don’t pull out each hair in my eyebrows?
You see, fast, that is why I like him as a pitcher, he throw strikes, now guys don’t get your hope high, you can’t win in the post season with this bp, the Phillies will not go far either.
that was easy.
heilman is fired.
For as much as we needed this, it was so hard to watch lol It was so stressful. But I’m so happy.
I really thought we were gonna see Roger Bernadina’s first major league home run, the way things were going there.
Sheer torture. How can you almost a blow this?! Winning 8-2 in the 6th and it takes 7, count ‘em, 7 relievers to close out the freakin’ Nats.
I’ve been a Mets fan alomst 40 years. Ordinarily I’d be happy if they can make the playoffs, but I’m not enjoying this at all. It’s just downright painful to watch this bullpen implode night after night after night…
I’ve never seen anything like it, two yrs in a row, no less!
Can we please get a split? Johan needs to go 9 tomorrow.
My sentiments exactly washtiger. Also a Met fan since 1967 and I have never witnessed this type of stress and disappointment
Because we have never witness this type of unbelievably ineffective BP. Even in the really bad years (and there were many) I don’t recall a BP this bad.
Those teams were so bad, we may not have noticed. That is what is so painful about this group. They are just good enough to make us think there is a chance, then they bring in what has to be the biggest joke in the game. Omar has not been awful, but for all the Omar fans here, for the good he has done, he must get some blame for the state of this BP
X-Man, you’re absolutely correct. There were a lot of years to suffer with horrible teams — late ’70’s-early 80’s; early to mid ’90’s, and even still the BP’s on those teams weren’t this bad. There were other issues for sure, but I don’t recall this many BP meltdowns. Typical Mets, right?
I can’t believe the Brewers are winning. Ughh Maybe the Cubs will come back
just your routine 9-7 win
I am very happy Johan is going out on the mound. If the Mets are not able to score tomorrow though, no one can tell me it’s not psychological. No one can tell me they believe they have to score runs.
Johan will give us a solid start. We’ll split. Hopefully we pick up a pick in the Wild Card or Division. The Phillies are bound to lose eventually.
The Braves are 0-8 at home against the Phillies this year. Their due to win one, right? I hope
Who said I meant tomorrow was that day? lol They’re 9-6 against the Nats and 6-9 against Florida. That means they’re only .500 against those two clubs – a bulk of who they finish up against.
My comment was not in response to yours. But I see your point
Oh ok. No problem. Yeah I see what you’re saying. The Phillies winning has to stop at some point. With 10 to go, you have to figure they can win 6 or 7. The Mets got an extra game than them so they can still match up. If they aim the division, the wild card becomes more likely.
Why does this hurt so bad, even though we won tonight?
I can’t figure it out either. I don’t know why. It’s like I can’t be completely happy about this win. It’s probably because of the headache I got from watching it.
Yeah, even the wins are sickening.
Looking at the Mets is sickening sometimes. Just think about it though. For every bit of sickness or misery we’re in right now, if this team wins the division or even makes the playoff – we’ll be estatic. I know there’s people out there who are you if it’s not the division, than I don’t want it. They can shove it. I want a WS and I’m happy what ever way I can get it. You’re getting the Cubs without home field either way.
The main thing is the Mets have to keep winning. They’re the same in the loss column with the Phillies so the Mets could tie them. And it’s likely that they both may clinch and if that’s the case – the Mets win the division.
944. that’s a lot of posts lol
david wright needs to shut his mouth up, and start paying attention, he is been pulling the ball too much, trying to hit HR, he is not a HR hitter, he is a good hitter that happens to have power, stop this kid and go back to what brought you here.
Did Reyes steal Jerry’s car or something? He has to be better than some of these clowns. Didn’t Parnell get 3 outs in 8 pitches Monday?
This Mets bullpen has a way of believing it’s easier to hold a 1 run lead when you’re losing versus a 4 run lead when you’re winning. It’s weird. I know. But it’s the way how it is. I like Parnell. Maybe he’ll make a long relief outing soon.
How useless has Al Reyes been? Who’d think Ramon Martinez would prove more significance lol
The bullpen pitchers shouldn’t even be allowed in the park tomorrow. Hand Santana the ball and say “See you at the end of the game”.
That should be the rule. It’s time to man up. Johan, the game is yours, win or lose.
I still like Joe Smith. If it wasn’t for Wright’s bone head throw, we might not have needed to use two more pitchers.
Joe Smith never makes it easy. For some reason, he has luck. I’ve seem him in these kinds of spots before. He’ll give up a ball to the track with loads of runners on. I am not totally inconfident in Feliciano, but I think there’s plenty of room for improvement. I still believe we have to have some faith in Ayala and Stokes too if we can.
It’s going to be hard. It won’t be easy. But we’ll do it. We’ll get in the playoffs somehow. And we’ll probably get a chance with the Phils.
HFS!!!!
Now I’m drinking Wright’s stuff: here’s where a win feels like a loss.
UN-friggin’-canny. Even when we beat this terrible Nats team, it doesn’t leave me w/ a shred of confidence, let alone swagger.
Yeah, I have one bottle of booze left, and it won’t last long tonight!
ahh los mets… what a beautifully painful curse
I like Manuel. I think he’s done a good job. But lately, he’s having Willie Randolph syndrome. He keeps going to the same guys when they continue to fail. Sometime he has to try something different. Bring in Parnell, Reyes. They can’t be any worse, it’s not possible.
Yeah, and why would you ever, ever go to Heilman ever again int a tight pennant race and a must have win?
Heilmann is just awful, absolutely gross out there. You can’t even trust him in mop-up duties. Not a chance. Just cut him loose. Send him home. Make up an injury for an excuse. I don’t care, just get rid of his sorry arse!
I thought that Manuel said that Heilman has been injured for most of the year? If that’s the case, why in holy heck is he still running him out there? Put him on the DL, run him out of town on a rail, anything — just don’t let him pitch anymore!
I don’t get it!
Leave it to the leaky bullpen to spoil otherwise great games from Jose and Los Dos Carlos (especially Beltran).
All I can say is….
WHEW !!
I feel I can get back to monitoring metsblog and other extra-game baseball activities now that the Mets have come through with a win. Didn’t even realize Tatis is gone. Used gameday today. All I can say is whew! How quick things can change.
LET’S GO METS!
Lets face it. Even if they make the postseason, this team is not getting past the first round unless they get three incredible starts from Johan, Ollie and Big Pelf.
3 man rotation 3 days rest might just be what we have to do.
The only other possibility is if Maine can come back for the postseason and you make him your closer and you catch lightning in a bottle.
Rooting for the Mets is shortening my lifespan a little more every day. And this is supposed to be fun?
Been a fan since 1968 myself and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like this.
But I’m not giving up. Quoting Yogi: ‘I ain’t over till it’s over’.
I agree — also a fan since ‘68. This is life with the Mets. I remember when I was 10, a kid I knew — Yankee fan — quipped, “They call them the Amazin’ Mets ’cause it’s amazing when they win.” Such is the life of a Mets fan. As Ringo said, “It don’t come easy.”
That said, this season is far from over. Last year they had a huge lead and p*ssed it away. This is different. Even when 3-1/2 up, you knew they’d be scrapping with the Phillies neck-and-neck down to the wire. Only a fool would think they would run away with it.
Not that wouldn’t prefer a 5-game lead, but you gotta have faith in your team. Otherwise, what fun is there being a Mets fan?
Whoever said “No pain, no gain” must have been a Mets fan. Watching these games is worse than going to see your proctologist. Rubber glove anyone?
I think it was Arnold.
Heilman? Can some one explain to me in simple English why is Heilman even allowed to hold a baseball in his hand, never mind stand on a pitching mound?
Because its like betting on snake eyes at the craps table. If you can get it, the pay off is huge, but most times you just don’t.
I don’t think with 12 or 11 left to play in a tight, tight pennant race is the time for manuel to start gambling. Although the entire BP is a gamble in itself, Heilman is the Biggest gamble with the worst odds.
Heilman and Sanchez are both hurt – and they are hurting the team when Manuel strolls them out there.
I don’t think we can take chances on either one of them for the rest of the season. We should just shut them both down.
What I don’t get is why we didn’t give Al Reyes a shot tonight to see what he’s got. Is he THAT bad?
I agree with all your points and comments Slider regarding the injured Heilman and sanchez and about Reyes. Have to scratch your head sometimes.
I am so dissapointed in david wright right now. I really don’t care about the atbats because he is quietly the STREAKIEST player in baseball. But, if you see that error in the 9th you can see
a) he didn’t want the ball hit to him as he wanted no part of that ball
and
b) he aimed the ball as if he had no confidence in getting it over there.
Carlos Beltran won this one.
This win dosen’t mean anything unless they win tomorrow.
I couldn’t agree more. I see ourselves winning tomorrow. Usually tough wins or tough losses have a way of carving wins for this club. It’s a confidence boost. And when you got your ace going out, it’s big.
If we make the playoffs, people can point this game as the turning point. The turning point from decline. The reason why we still believe. We have to keep winning. This team has to keep playing one inning at a time.
The turning point would not be today’s game, it would be tomorrow’s game if we have a COMPLETE game.
I know its usually the first game that is the turning point, but tomorrow is crucial:
1) splits the series
2) winning streak in the middle of september
3)the phillies can’t win every game, can they?
So why’d we win the game? The 1st inning had something to do with it. If it weren’t for those two runs, it would have been 7-7. That was an important spark.
Even though he walked a few, Brandon Knight managed to work his way out of trouble. I know he’d have a much harder time against the Cubs though. He did his job. 5 innings, 2 ER. All we needed. The bullpen made it stressful though. I believe it was 5 ER in 4 innings. Very sad.
Is the rotation going to need Knight against the Cubs or can we just go with Santana, Perez, Pelfrey, Martinez and Neise the rest of the way?
we can go 5, barring another rainout
So, maybe Knight can be of some help in the BP? Gotta see if we can catch lightening in a bottle.
Props to the Carlos brothers for winning this game!!!!
I know a win is a win is a win, but to me this feels like half a win (i know there is no such thing, ok), because i don’t think that they’ll beat the cubs and the marlins playing like this.
reyes (jose) needs to hit like this EVERY game for the rest of the year.
nick evans needs to play against lefties instead of ryan church, no iffs, ands or you know whats.
If we get into the post season – and I know it’s a big if…..the only way we’re going anywhere is to score a dozen runs per game – or the starters pitch a complete game. No way this BP is going to face good hitting teams and get away with it.
We won this game b/c we scored 9 runs tonight and we needed every one of them…..
We can’t use Heilman or Sanchez anymore. Manuel’s going to have to do some quick evaluations on Parnell and Al Reyes, I think.
Wright’s performance went from bad to disturbing in the ninth. Jerry or one of the veterans needs to remind him that the team needs adults.
God I hope Wright is not turning into another A-Rod.
It’s the thrill of agony and the victory of defeat. (That’s a takeoff of the ABC Wide World of Sports motto from years ago).
Who can look terrible with a win??? the Mets can!! the Mets can!! Jeez, gotta go restock my tums supply.
Even with our terrible bullpen, no way did I think we would’ve needed all these runs tonight to pull out a win. I won’t make that mistake again.
Don’t know how the offense will be able to continue to defend against this disgusting BP though. just got to hope for a little luck to get us into the playoffs….or maybe a lot of luck!
LL, where have u been all year. its been the same
And once we get into the playoff and have to face “REAL” teams, with “REAL” hitters and “REAL” pitchers, then what?
Than we ironically turn it up. Than Ollie throws amazing. Than the Mets hit. It’s weird. That’s exactly what we need.
Then we make each starter pitch a complete game unless his arm falls off.
but these 4th 5th place teams seem to be the Mets Achilles heels.
well the offense went on a nice little vacation the last few nights, so hopefully they are rejuvenated and back for good.
Why can’t we at least let the guys who are not integrated into the physche of the Mets bullpen get a chance more often? Al Reyes? Ricardo Rincon? Bobby Parnell? I know it sounds desperate, but it can work.
Vs what’s already working? nothing that anyone can suggest at this point can be any worse than what we already have. NOTHING. no matter how crazy it sounds, it will still probably be better than what we are trotting out there.
Manuel might as well stick with Ayala as the closer, unless John Maine can become the next John Smoltz
There are FA’s out there. I don’t even have to mention K-Rod if they’re cheap. I got a feeling they’ll get him though. You got Wood and Fuentes too. Than they’ll be people via trade such as Street, BJ Ryan and others.
John Maine’s an option. I’d rather see him be a starter because it makes a bigger impact. We need 4 rock solid pitchers. 4 guys with a good bullpen that can produce 60+ wins. If they don’t re-sign Ollie, they don’t know how screwed they’ll be.
I agree with you for next year. I was talking about Maine, if he were able to make it back this year.
We still will not be over the psychological hump if we don’t win the division, but the wild card unless we made it to the WS (especially beating the Phillies) or won it.
As this point, I’m just happy if the Mets get in. If the Mets give us a division title and lose in the first round, at least we can say they did it. At least we can have some damn pride again. If we win the wild card and get knocked out in the 1st round, it’ll be like a cup that’s half full.
My how our expectations have come down for this Mighty Mets team with the Highest Payroll in the NL. Now we’re just happy if they make it as a wild card.
They don’t come down at the complete cost of the Mets only winning 2 out of the last 6. If the Phillies had only won 4 out of 6 which was still good, we’d still be up. Maybe that’s not what we need. We kind of needed to be looking up so we got motivation.
This team will do it. Even if it’s as the Wild Card. The Mets didn’t complain in 99′ and 00′ when they got there. They got through the first round both times and to the WS once. It can happen again.
nyj, one step at a time man.
tomorrow is the BIGGEST game of the year and then the next day it will be the BIGGEST game of the year and so on.
I have feeling Santana is going to have a masterful outing (8.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 10K, 1BB). Nat’s park has such a huge outfield and all he has to do is just make them hit everything to Beltran and Church.
Rotation:
Santana at WAS
Niese at ATL
Perez at ATL
Pedro at ATL
Pelfrey at CHC
Santana at CHC
Niese v CHC
Perez v CHC
Pedro v FLA
Pelfrey v FLA
SantanaCyYoung at FLA
I wish you were right but it’s not Niese against the Braves. It seems they will use himin the first game against the Cubs.
So who is it Friday night?
It looks like Ollie.
We’re going Perez, Martinez, Pelfrey at Atlanta, all on regular rest created by today’s Knight’s start. The rotation for the Cubs have not been announced yet, but I guess it will be Niese in the first game.
Now that we saw Brandon Knight get through a start alright, they may be able to depend on him. I wouldn’t trust him for more than 5 or 6. Could we with Pedro though?
I believe if you are going with Niese, it should be against the Braves because of how he did against them. Than again, seeing him a second time around may allow them to hit him.
2 of 3 guy’s have to be chosen in Pedro, Niese and Knight. It’s just a matter of where each guy slots. You don’t want to see more than one of them go against the Cubs as they won’t have to.
All games are going to scare us one way or another lol The stress just gets worse when Pedro, Niese or Knight is on the mound… ATL won’t be an easy series. Taking 2 of 3 or a sweep is a must. Winning 3 out of these next 4 is a must if they expect to hold their ground in the wild card and expect to have a shot at the division.
Those three games in Atlanta scare me a bit with Niese, Ollie and Pedro going. I’m losing all confidence in Pedro, unfortunately. But, what are our options?
Yes. I see your point. Each game is important, but only a select amount of gains represent momentum. This win proved to the Mets they can win. Tomorrow I can go in watching this game feeling like I would watch a game in any other month. If it weren’t for this win, I’d feel like it’s mid-September of 07′ all over again.
Also, Mets.com indicates the probable pitcher for Friday is Oliver Perez and Saturday is Pedro. They have Pelfrey listed for Sunday, but I believe that can change. You’re probably right that is what they’ll do because they need Mike for the Cubs.
So it may look like this:
Santana at Was
Perez at ATL
Pedro at ATL
Niese at ATL
Pelfrey vs CHC
Santana vs CHC
Ollie vs CHC
Pedro vs CHC
Niese or Knight vs FLA
Pelfrey vs FLA
Johan vs FLA
The deciding factor between Pelfrey going out on Sunday or Monday comes down to whether they choose Niese or Knight. Or perhaps both and dump out Pedro. I think they’ll give Pedro one more shot though.
Let’s bring Tom Seaver out of retirement. If nothing else, we’d get to see Tom Terrific again. He’d still be better than Heilman.
Have to give props to the offense though. Came out swinging and determined tonight. Tacked on runs. Didn’t quit the whole night. Didn’t give up any at-bats. If anything, I think the hitters finally realize that they have to press on and on with the runs. It’s crunch time now, and they did something about it tonight. Let’s hope they can continue it.
Yup. You’re right. I think they’ll come out swinging. They need to. Redding isn’t a bad pitcher though. They need to give Johan good run support. We need him to go deep.
The offense did their jobs. The bullpen kind of did, but could have done a lot better. Last night it was the other way around. The thing that always seems to hold up is the starting pitching and defense (except for Wright’s rare error).
We could definitely use Maine as the closer for the last week of the season. It’d be really big if we can get Easley back too. I don’t know what to expect out of John Maine, but if they mixed him along with Al Reyes, Bobby Parnell and guys who have not really been given a shot… good things can happen. Better than what’s been happening. Ayala isn’t all that bad, even though he’s had bad moments. He’s sadly better than most of our pen.
Tonight would have been a good time to give Reyes a shot to get an out or two.
Why make Niese wait until Monday? It doesn’t make any sense. If he throws on Sunday, isn’t he on like 7 or 8 days rest? Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to give Pelfrey the extra day rest? Wouldn’t it mean more to have Pelfrey throw your second to last game versus Jon Niese or Brandon Knight? Niese against the Cubs. That can be scary. Look at what the Brewers did to him.
Take it easy guys. I’m going to bed lol This game was too stressful. I know it’ll get worse tomorrow… At least I’m prepared for it
yeah, he is hurt
He has, actually. Had some doubles, had some clutch singles, walked a couple of times. He’s got a long way to go, but he’s figuring it out. I wish he would do it a little faster, but I think he’s gonna be fine.
Who do you want Manual to bring in? He can only choose from the guys on the roster.
