In a post to his blog for the Daily News, Adam Rubin gives details on John Maine, who threw 10 pitches from a mound today DC.

According to Rubin, ‘Maine said it’s realistic to pitch in relief next week, after he faces batters in a simulated setting.’

Awesome.  That’s all I have to say.  I have this image of Maine, trotting out from the bullpen in a big spot, Willis Reed style.  Super-Maine, so to speak.  Good luck, John.

we need something, hopefully maine’s arm wont break down due to pitching back to back games even though hell only be pitching out of the pen for a week and hopefully the postseason

Kellman September 18, 2008 at 5:49 pm

I really don’t have any faith in him for 2008, but who knows, maybe he is fine and gives us another arm out of the pen.

Despite his propensity to have long battles with guys, I think he could make a good bullpen arm (then again, anyone else would look good in our pen at this point). It would be nice to have another power arm in there other than Stokes.

Ceetar September 18, 2008 at 5:53 pm

He threw 10 pitches, or shot 10 arrows?

Nightlife September 18, 2008 at 5:58 pm

Having Craig Counsel and Jason Kendall bat back to back has to be a death blow for any lineup. Poor, poor Brewers couldn’t get anything in 2nd and 3rd and no outs (a familiar situation to us as well). GO CUBS!!!

No kidding. Finish the freakin’ Brew Crew off….

JefJarrett September 18, 2008 at 6:11 pm

CUBBIES!!!!!!
(until Monday)

chicagometfan September 18, 2008 at 6:14 pm

The Brewers just suffered a Met kind of loss. Up 4 runs with 2 out in the ninth and no one on and the Cubs tied it
Plus they failed many times to tack on runs .
Mets need to win tonight to put more pressure on them

CannonBoy13 September 18, 2008 at 6:14 pm

The Cubs win

dazedandconfused September 18, 2008 at 6:15 pm

they didn’t fail to tack on. They scored all their runs late in the game.

ASod1975 September 18, 2008 at 6:20 pm

I think what he meant was they failed big-time with runners on base, especially second and third with no outs in the 12th. With Counsell and Kendall coming up, new manager Dale Sveum totally blew it by not having one of them squeeze, especially Counsell who is a great bunter.

chicagometfan September 18, 2008 at 6:45 pm

The Brewers started the ninth inning with a double, single and another double in order and only scored one run. That falls under failing to tack on as far as I know

Super-Maine! I love it Matt! Seriously though it seems like for a few weeks now while everyone else was saying he’s probably don Maine has refused to give up his season and wants to do anything he can to help this team. I think him getting out there and being successful out of the pen would not only be a huge lift to this team in the pen but emotionally I would hope the other Mets would realize how lucky they are to be where they are and turn it up a notch to get this thing done.

Let’s Go Mets!

casey s. September 18, 2008 at 6:18 pm

go cubbies!

metsmad22 September 18, 2008 at 6:18 pm

the brewers were given a gift of a 6th inning from jeff samardjia anyways.

hyperion4 September 18, 2008 at 6:45 pm

The gift was really from Mark DeRosa who kicked away a DP grounder that would have ended the inning with no runs scored.

pedro4545 September 18, 2008 at 6:25 pm

THANK YOU CUBS!!!! Win tonight would be so big. Lets Go Mets and, I hate to say it, Let go Braves.

ASod1975 September 18, 2008 at 6:26 pm

Hey Matt,
Just a little observation. You should probably get rid of the Cardinals altogether from the Wild Card standings, or at least insert the Marlins in front of them since they’re only five losses back while the Cards are six……

Nordberg September 18, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Let’s go Bravos, LETS GO!!!!

casey s. September 18, 2008 at 8:52 pm

well, if maine only have to pitch one inning, he can throw much harder because he won’t have to conserve energy. i see him (if healthy) hitting 95-96 with his fastball. that’s closer stuff.

casey s. September 18, 2008 at 8:52 pm

*has

Now if mains arm falls off and ends up in the crowd, What do you think you could sell it for on ebay?
