Obviously something was going on behind the scenes that we as fans are not privy to. Reyes had a history of being temperamental he also was a pretty lousy pitcher in TB this year.

I guess it was a combination of shooting his mouth off in the clubhouse and/or just not having it anymore.

Need I remind people that Dunaer Sanchez has an ERA of 4.45 this season? Or that Pedro Feliciano has posted an ERA of 3.98? Clearly, just glancing at a guy’s ERA (or even past “successes”) doesn’t tell you the whole story about how he’s been pitching, particularly in the case of relievers.

Before people start saying, “Stupid move, Omar/Jerry,” how about we way until an explanation is given? What if Reyes had seen a further drop in velocity from the time we signed him, or he’s just unsure if he wants to continue to pitch? There are plenty of reasonable explanations as to why he could be released.

I don’t get this. I agree that something must have happened that we don’t know about, because I see no other reason not to give Reyes a shot.

By the way, that 3-year, $10 mil Chad Bradford contract is still looking pretty good.

Then why bring him in in the first place?

I hope Minaya remembers how to build a good bullpen next year. He did it last year but has reverted back to his 2005 model the past two years of signing every guy you can and seeing what sticks.

Hmm…either that or he signs with Milwaukee and settles down their pen for the last 10 days.
