The Daily News has started a special edition of ‘Memories of Shea’ which highlights several of Shea’s greatest moments.
They include Tommie Agee’s upper deck home run, the Tom Seaver era, and Mike Piazza’s contribution to Mets history.
…with all of the talk surrounding the finale in the bronx, i’m interested to see how much media attention shea’s final weekend will bring…

My personal favorite moment: In July of ‘88 I asked Strawberry for an autograph outside of the player’s entrance. He was driving a red Porsche 944 Turbo. He told me to “F off”.
The heartbreak of the Pendelton homer in ‘87……..I have so many good and bad memories.
All the hubris over yankee stadium is fine.
Just remember, starting next year, they just have a new
stadium like everybody else. Those idiots are destroying
the best thing about their team.
How dumb is that?
I wish those pictures were high-resolution. There would be some great desktop wallpapers in there!
nobody really cares much about Shea. It’s all about the pennett race in Queens. The Yanks are only getting attention about their stadium cause their actual baseball season is over.
no…the yankees are getting all the attention because they won 27 champlonships there. its an unfortunate but universal truth, the mets are the little brother of the yankees. and honestly putting all bias aside 27 > 2. Can you really blame the media?
26 you mean
Dude, I would not trade the 1969 season for no stinkin’ Skankee arua…or was that odor?
First of all, winning doesn’t always mean ‘big brother’.
second, it’s 7-2.
It gets the attention because i’ts historic and ancient. Babe Ruth played there. (And that’s where their curse comes from)
None of em this century brotha
Does anyone know when they are holding all the farewell to shea activities? More importantly… when Mike Piazza and other Mets greats are going to be there?
I want to get my tickets ASAP.
pretty sure it’s gonna be the last game, and it’s been sold out since April.
They aren’t sold you.
I bought my tickets during mid-August and they were shipped to my house two days later from StubHub.
The seats cost be $134 and they are in Upper Reserved, Section 20, Row A.
They have tons of tickets on StubHub, but they’ll cost ya.
if you’re buying the tickets through stubhub, that means the game is sold out. You can still get the tickets, but you’re gonna pay a ton. $134 for Upper Reserved is a lot of money.
Are you 100% positive its the last game of the season?
Yes, I asked Adam Rubin on his website about which players would be there for the final game and I told him that I had purchased tickets and this is what he had to say:
The Mets said they’ll announce their plans in a few days. I know Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza and Dave Kingman are among those committed to attending. No Davey Johnson or Mookie Wilson.
Thank you very much! I will be getting my tickets soon enough.
How sweet would it be if the yankees were officially eliminated tomorrow on the last day in the place! I’m so sick of hearing about the ghosts of yankee stadium and the hallowed ground and how it’s the coloseeum (sp) of baseball. Let it die!
That’s what I’m hopingfor.
I don’t mind hearing about the Ghosts..since it’s the ghost of Babe Ruth dooming them to 86 years of failure since they’re knocking down his house.
Speaking of Kong that brings back one of my favorite Shea moments. Seat cushion night around 1982 or 1983 against Houston. Kingman hits a meaningless solo homerun in another Met loss around the eigth inning after striking out earlier with men on. Just about every seat cushion in the place ended up on the field
Why no mention of the Jets? except for the picture of Seaver warming up Joe.
yeah saFAThia blew the lead!
you can’t even compare yankee stadium to shea stadium. come on people. I do hope shea gets some respect but don’t expect anything near what yankee stadium gets.
BUT look on one bright side. shea may be hosting postseason games this year.
It only took the NYDN all season to finally have an insert dedicated to the Mets/Shea Stadium. Will be in tomorrow’s paper.
Tonight at 7:30, ABC will have a tribute show for both Yankee and Shea Stadium. The show will run for 30 minutes. Seems to look like a good show.
