John Maine threw a 25–pitch simulated inning at Shea Stadium today, and told reporters afterwards that he is at ‘90 percent,’ and ready to be activated.
Jerry Manuel later told reporters that he could turn to Maine for help in the bullpen towards the end of this week.
Maine, speaking to reporters prior to today’s game, said:
“I think I know I’m not going to start the rest of the season. So, if I can help in the bullpen, I want to do that. I hate sitting on the bench not being able to do anything. It’s fine when you come out to see your teammates, but once the first pitch is thrown you don’t really feel like part of the anything. I just want to be activated.”
To hear from Maine, and to see Kevin Burkhardt’s one-on-one interview with Manuel, tune in to SNY’s Pre Game Show, which begins tonight at 6:30 pm.

Maine already threw it… He’s declared himself ready to go…
Anyone else waiting for the update where it says Heilman has been DFA?
Wow already got an update in the comments section is a thread from before. MB is slipping up man

Maine’s simulated game report

John Maine is on the Shea Stadium mound, throwing his second simulated game in three days. He’s now pitching to Argenis Reyes, after throwing six pitches to Ramon Castro - the last a swing and miss.
He’s just thrown six pitches to Argenis Reyes and now he’s working to Robinson Cancel. So far everything seems to be going fine. There’s no radar gun available to me, of course, so all I can do is listen for the pop of bullpen catcher Dave Racaniello’s glove. Jerry Manuel, Mike Pelfrey and Sandy Alomar, Sr. are watching from behind second base, pitching coach Dan Warthen is watching from behind the batting cage.
Cancel got seven pitches, and Marlon Anderson got five. Now it’s Damion Easley. We’re up to 29 pitches now…
yeah, i thought it already happened too, the guys on dnlive were saying he might pitch on wed or thurs
Having Maine pitch to Marlon Anderon is like having Jennie Finch pitch to my 4-year old’s tee-ball league.
Regardless, I want to see Maine back on the mound helping out the pen soon…
someone’s flux capacitor is on the fritz
I think Maine’s fastball is topping at 88.8 mph.
According to Adam Rubin:
“Lou Piniella has done the Mets one favor. Sean Marshall starts Tuesday instead of Rich Harden opposite Johan Santana. Harden goes Thursday, bumping Ted Lilly to Saturday against the Brewers.”
i hope they’re not going to ruin this kid’s career.
the mets have the worst handling of injured players in the sport.
This isn’t even remotely true anymore (other than whole Church of course).
church…no big deal, right?
maine…no big deal, right?
are those really your only examples, man, that’s pathetic…
i could provide a longer list, but why go beyond this season when everyone who’s objective know what i said is true.
now let me go get my pom poms
Where is Tanya Harding when we need her?
Can someone pull her out of her trailer and get her buddy Jeff Gilhoey to go visit Aaron Heilman.
I wish him no harm, just a short-term knee contusion yielding him unable to pitch for the next couple of weeks.
I’ve been trying to sell my tickets on Craigslist for today for face value ($10 each) but noone seems to want them. I don’t want them to go to waste so if anyone wants them for free and can meet on 51st and madison by 6 or is willing to pay the $4 Mets Ticket Transfer fee and receive them via email, they’re yours. The seats are in the Upper Deck Section 5 Row E, behind home plate. Email me at mseltzer@halcyonllc.com if interested.
Matt, maybe your post should have been titled “Maine at 90%, but the Mets would be in first if Maine were at 92%”
your posts make too much sense comparitevely to the guys who also work on this site…
the last Met pitcher proclaimed ready at the 90-95% arena was none other than Billy Wagner who was 95% just before admitting he needed Tommy John surgery.
I was thinking of that too. Different injuries though. That being said I still think he should just shut it down and get the surgery over with.
he needs to be at 92-94 before he should be in there…..and as far as the harden/marshall thing, either is fine since the mets are terrible at hitting bad/rookie pitchers.
hi…do research…it just seems we can’t hit rookie pitching.. Cerrone posted something earlier in the year, we are actually quite good at it… take yesterday for example… they hit parr for 4 runs in 1.2 IP
I see John Maine has employed the Carlos Beltran measuring system.
hahahahahaha im legitimately laughing out loud from that one
The autograph festival looks interesting. It includes Mets music!
if they’re going to activate maine and think he’s ready to pitch, i’d rather see him penciled in for a start. not so sure how effective a reliever he’d be. since it’s already been stated, in no uncertain terms, that pitching will NOT exacerbate his injury, why not let him start? he was monumental the last week of season 2007. maybe he can duplicate that feat.
